I'm a SAHM of 2 under 2 who's on a mission to discover the best subscription boxes for women and children. On the off chance I'm not chasing after my kids (or breaking up a looming brawl between them and the cats), you can most likely find me training in the pool, sipping on an Americano at my local coffee shop, or hiding in our spare room to catch up on my favorite podcasts.

For a unique sub under $15, try “Letters from Afar.” (Not to be mixed up with Letterjoy.)

It’s great if you like traveling, art, stories of adventure, getting letters, or have kids who are interested in learning about the world. It’s only $6 a month, too! I get this one for my niece and nephew.

Just left IPSY due to the price increases over the past few months. I had a subscription for Glam and Glam Plus. This article is incorrect regarding the price of the Base Bag, it is now $15 for the bag then shipping as of July’s bag and the Plus bag is almost $32. There are similar bag subscriptions as the base bag for cheaper and are better. Go somewhere else such as Allure, Birchbox, or Boxycharm, where shipping is free and you get better stuff.

EarFleek is awful, their website is hard to navigate and they have super rude customer service.

Ellen

The candle subscription box is actually 39$ a month, there is no 10$ box. Very sad.

Reply ButtonReply

Lindsey @ MSA

Hi Ellen! I just checked the Vellabox site, and I’m still seeing the The Lucerna Vellabox as a subscription option. For US subscribers this box is priced as low as $12 per month (for an annual sub). Month-to-month, it’s $18, and shipping is free for US subscribers. It takes a minute to get past their quiz to view subscription options, but the lower-cost box still appears to be available. 🙂

While I got it anyway, the succulents box was more that double the price listed here. It was $10 plus and extra $5 for delivery. Going to try it and hopefully won’t be disappointed.

I am a monthly succulent box member, as well as a succulent studio member & both of them are amazing!! I love every succulent I’ve gotten so far! I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

The ipsy box is actually $15+ and you get a glam bag with 5 samples very small samples. mostly glittery shadows and face mask.

Reply ButtonReply

Susan

I’ve been getting Ipsy on and off for years (depending on my financial state). Sometimes I get a full-size bottle of nail polish, really good brushes of different types, and don’t get very small samples! My last bag had a nice batch of stuff in it and it costs $12 per month now I think. It was $10 for quite a while.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

They’ve raised prices, unfortunately, plus there is the $1.99 handling fee which makes it more. The handling fee is in their sales as well now, so it’s not as good of a deal.

They do sometimes send polish, tools, full size liners, or another full size item like a shadow or lip balm.

But, it’s not as often as they used to, and skincare samples are usually very tiny. My average bag value has gone from about $65 to $40, and the ‘value’ now is mostly that some half-filled skincare sample will be worth $15. Individual samples, like concealer, can even be worth less than $3. I used to get full size blushes, lipsticks, eye creams, etc. – not anymore. I have to get full size stuff from the salesman which again aren’t as great due to the handling fee. (Though sometimes they’ll have a polish duo for $5, which is $7.50 with the handling fee + tax, and that’s still a good deal.)

I’ve been mostly skipped this year, got a few bags when I really liked the design. A couple were even really good picks for me. Unfortunately my last bag was a huge dud.

Never have had issues with Scentbird. Their selection is amazing and you get to choose what you want in a list. Only subscription I keep

Amanda Montague

I never got my first order, but u site paid for it. Customer service was so exasperating that I finally said fine just keep it. Scentbird needed it more than I did.

Kathleen LaFratta

Lip Monthly is a Canadian company, they never ship the bags! I had to threaten them to get mine and it took 2 1/2 months after I paid. Products were decent for the price, I got Manna Kadar Lip Balm that retails for $22 on their site, so that alone was worth the price of the bag. I just didn’t trust the company to be consistent.

Hey hey. I’ve always have gotten my box. Two of them. Now they charged me for two boxes of the same thing this month.

It is really wrong to put Lip Monthly in a post labeled “Reader’s Choice,” even if it is in the ‘other’ category. Both the customer service & product quality for that box are absolutely abysmal.

Reply ButtonReply

Tara W

I agree. The Dirty Little Secrets product is even featured in the photo. Yuck.

I was surprised that Sips by tea was included in this list. I was interested, but when I read the review and comments well… I didn’t see a single positive comment. Seems like a lot of people have been scammed, there seems to be no customer service at all, and the value isn’t even equal to what you are paying. Pretty lousy if you ask me. Not worth the risk.

Reply ButtonReply

Carol Bell

I know I’m replying to an old post, but I have been a subscriber for over a year and haven’t had any problems. My box is delivered each month and I have enjoyed tasting all the teas. The teas are high quality, fresh and in sufficient quantity for multiple cups.

I really like the personal shopper aspect too. I get teas that I’m interested in and can alter my profile with my ratings of the teas. Or, I can explore and get something different if I want. Plus each tea has a great description of the tea and how to brew.

If you like tea, give Sipsby a try. You can even skip a month if desired.

Mackenzie

I was surprised to come across this comment about Sips by – I’ve been a subscriber for over a year and have nothing but positive things to say about my experience. It’s opened my eyes to so many new teas I never otherwise would’ve tried, and customer service has been friendly and helpful with special requests.

I’m still extremely upset & depressed that Graze stopped shipping to USA. I’ve got a few major Medical issues & having food/snacks organized is very difficult for me. I fell hard for all Graze products! They were nutritious, so portable, scrumptious and varied for differing palates & diets. I keep hoping if others join me in protesting they could see an adequate market here. I think some larger bags of snacks r available at perhaps Target or Walgreens but not the ones I want & the small size, singe packs. Wah! 8=((

Reply ButtonReply

Jess

Completely agree! I absolutely loved graze. They had so many great snacks. My impression was that they essentially just stopped their subscription service in the states (maybe all together) and instead just sold a few things in large chain stores. I know many people were upset because it was unexpected and out of the blue, with no formal announcement. Just “hey, we aren’t shipping to your area anymore” only it was the entire US. As much as I loved their product, I wouldn’t buy it now even if I did see it in a store somewhere. I wish there was something else like them though.

I saw small size graze packs sold on 7-11, they had like 3 or more variants. Forgot the price but I think it’s under $5.
