How KiwiCo Crates Work

KiwiCo Crates are easy to get started with. KiwiCo crates cater to different age ranges and come in a variety of themes. Each box delivers a new project for you and your kid(s) to explore and learn something new.

To help you pick the right box, KiwiCo wants to know your child’s name and age. A nice feature that helps crates feel even more special to your child is that boxes are addressed to them and not to you.

From there, it’s up to you if you want to keep receiving boxes or if you want to skip or cancel anytime.

KiwiCo Crate Options and Pricing

Every KiwiCo Crate has a different theme targeted to different age ranges. You can also order boxes as monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual subscriptions. Monthly subscriptions are the standard highest price. Annual subscriptions give you the largest discount, with quarterly and semi-annual subscriptions with prices in between.

What Else You Should Know About KiwiCo

These crates make for great gifts for kids. Based on their age and their interests, you can find the right crate and use KiwiCos awesome gifting options to deliver it how you want. You can manage the subscription yourself or buy them a gift card to choose on their own. If you want to manage the subscription yourself, you can have the first box shipped to yourself to wrap and give in person!

Is KiwiCo Worth It?

We’ve reviewed KiwiCo over 60 times so far with more to come, and we can confidently say that these crates are more than worth it for kids to get engaged with sciences, crafts, and critical thinking. Because every project is unique, some crates might be more fun for your kids than others, but on the whole the engagement with the sciences is worth it.

How KiwiCo Compares to Other Top Subscriptions for Kids

KiwiCo VS MEL Science: MEL Science has four crates that are more directly STEM related: A STEM kids box, Chemistry, Physics, and Medicine. The MEL kits are priced higher at $34.90, however the build quality of MEL kits is at least as good if not better than KiwiCo. The diversity and research backing both brands is great, however KiwiCo has more variety and generally caters to more crafty projects and a fewer pure STEM projects. MEL Science also offers Virtual Reality lessons and DIY projects to subscribers allowing you to keep exploring beyond each individual kit.

KiwiCo VS WeCraftBox: WeCraftBox offers more arts and crafts style boxes rather than science and learning boxes, geared towards kids ages 3 to 9. WeCraftBox costs $29.99 per month compared to KiwiCo at $22.95. Both kits come with everything you need in the box. If you want more variety in both content and age ranges, and if learning is your priority, then KiwiCo is probably a better choice, however if you just want to get creative and hands-on then WeCraftBox gives you lots of activities to keep you occupied.

My son (age 7) received a one year subscription for Christmas and so far we are 4 boxes in and he absolutely loves it! Our boxes have been a continual theme - The World > France > Japan > England. Each box has two building activities, usually a famous landmark, annual tradition and/or toy/game. For example France was painting a stain glass cathedral window and making a racing cyclist (Tour de France). So far all of the builds have been completely different, very high quality and assembly has ranged from easy to just the right amount of critical thinking. Each month we also receive 6 high quality pages about each country that show a map of the area, fun facts, interesting history, a bonus activity (materials not included) and an easy recipe to make. All of the pages have pre-punched holes to add together to make a book. Overall we are SO happy with the boxes and would definitely recommend!

I've been subscribed for a year already. One of the best features of KiwiCo is that they have boxes for kids as young as 0-36 months, up to teenagers. You can choose based on your child's age and interests. Overall, KiwiCo is a great option for parents who want to encourage their children's creativity and learning.

I purchase the panda crates for my 7 month old. The coins for the box are way too small for a 7 month old. If I ever forgot one or left him alone with the toy, he could have gotten it lodged in his mouth. I contacted them and they sent me the box for 12 month old. Same sized pieces in the puzzles. The quality isn’t the greatest. I would rather get toys I know my son will be okay playing with. Don’t leave your child unattended.

I liked this okay, but my grandson grew tired of them. When I tried to cancel my renewed subscription they refused to cancel it. I have to pay for the remaining 4 crates on my subscription and then they wont autorenew it. So, you can cancel autorenew but you CANNOT CANCEL subscriptions.

Kiwi Crate collects a profit off of false and misleading advertising at the expense of children. It is Christmas Eve and I HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE DELIVERY that was ORDERED PAID FOR under the guarantee That the order would be received by 12/24. There is absolutely zero excusable reason that a company would advertise that a GIFT FOR CHILDREN would arrive BY CHRISTMAS and not deliver. It’s honestly appalling. Kiwi Crate has lost a repeat customer: I had a 10 month subscription in 2018 and have FOUR subscriptions currently (on top of the 4 additional gifts in which were not delivered): and I will be canceling all subscriptions immediately. I cannot recommend a company who doesn’t stand by its word, I cannot help but feel deceived and disappointed for my kids. I understand it is difficult to guarantee deliveries around the holiday season, however this is EXACTLY what Kiwi Crate had marketed to last minute shoppers. Had Kiwi Crate been transparent about their shipping limitations, I would have made alternative arrangements for gifts for my children. The shipping status confirmed delivery would be received on Dec 24, and now I’m left empty handed on Christmas morning. This is inexcusable and an obvious representation of the way this company conducts its business.

I am very unhappy with Kiwi and will not order anything from then again. My grandson enjoyed the boxes for a year, and then I tried to change the order to 6 times a year as they were piling up. They stopped the subscription for one month, then resumed it for a full 12 months and will not give me a refund or top the deliveries.

These kits are cheesy and over priced. Books are will written and colorful, however, over priced. Amazon is much cheaper and customer service is always much better. My biggest problem was dealing with customer service. Very rude.
