They encourage trying a variety of their offerings to expose your child to a number of different flavors and help them build their palate.

Factors We Considered When Reviewing These Kids Subscriptions

This list features our fellow subscription fanatics’ top choices, and we can confidently recommend the subscriptions above since we’ve researched and reviewed them all. Factors we considered when reviewing these subscriptions include:

  • Price - While we wish money was no object, the truth is that price is a key factor for most people when picking out the right subscription boxes for their kids. Our list includes options to suit a variety of budgets.
  • Customer Reviews - We know kid boxes better than anybody, but our opinion isn’t the only one that matters. We value the thoughts of the MSA community, and we’ve designed this list with their feedback in mind. Readers are encouraged to leave their own reviews on our brand pages, and their input has helped shape this list.
  • General Engagement - Are your kids talking about this subscription after they receive it? Did they bring their homemade catapult to school for show and tell? We want to share the best, and if our own kids aren't enjoying themselves while using these subscriptions, then we have ourselves a situation.
  • Safety - Our kids are our world, and their safety is our number one priority. Does the MEL Chemistry set include explosive chemicals? No. Does the Hoppi Box pride itself on sending eco-friendly and BPA-free toys? Yes. While some kits do contain items that could cause injury in the wrong hands, (accidents do happen) these boxes when used correctly are safe and fun.

What To Look For When Shopping Kids Subscriptions

Age Range - Do you have a 3-month-old and a toddler? Is your 6-year-old a genius? Some subscriptions are one age fits all, but others are very age-specific. Be sure to check out all box options to choose the one that fits best with your child's age range and/or skill level.

Past Boxes - Did a kids' snack review catch your eye? Did you hear about a kids' art box on the radio? While not all subscriptions have the option to purchase past boxes, it never hurts to check out an old box through one (or 10) of our fabulous reviews. From experience, we have come across a box that has one amazing month to three not-so-great ones and vice versa, so a little research can go a long way.

Practicality - Is this subscription practical? Will it benefit my child in a meaningful way, or will it collect dust on the TV stand? Will it save you time and energy, or will it cause you stress? These are questions to ask yourself when shopping for kids' subscription boxes as everyone's needs are different.

Overall Value - Are the items in this subscription worth way less than the box? Do you score a mega discount on brand-name items by purchasing this kid subscription monthly? Overall value is an important aspect of subscription boxes, and if it's just not there for you, that box may not be the right fit.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Kids Subscription Once You’ve Picked

Once you’ve picked out the right box for you, follow our steps to help make sure you make the most of your new subscription.

  • Check for coupons before buying. There’s often a deal to be had if you know where to look, and you’ve come to the right place. Here at MSA, we have the best coupons around. Keep an eye on our feed for money-saving special deals, and always make sure to check in with our reviews and subscription directory for the best coupons before buying.
  • Personalize your subscription. Many kids' subscription boxes allow you to update your profile with your child's preferences and likes/dislikes. Want only Nike athletic pants? Does your child hate screen tees? Make sure to update your subscription so you're matched with the best options for you.
  • Take advantage of online supplemental videos. Not only do online supplemental videos offer a great visual, but a lot of times they offer extra info not included in the physical box. Universal Yums, for instance, offers a playlist of country-specific music to munch along to when snacking through the box!
  • Check out brands' social media pages. As a subscriber, brands want to keep you around, so check out their social media pages for contests, polls, and giveaways for your chance at free merchandise! (I scored a bonus Universal Yums box this way not too long ago!)
  • Use your rewards and do those reviews. Some subscriptions offer rewards to long-time subscribers, especially if you leave reviews! Don't let those rewards expire - get that free gear!

I have a toddler and I LOVE all these ideas! I recently started using Learning with Kelsey toddler boxes (learningwithkelsey.com) and they are such a fun subscription! Just wanted to share if anyone was looking for other ideas!

I don’t think Kidpik includes special gift surprises in the packages anymore – at least, my daughter has never gotten an extra gift in the three boxes (only one kept) that we received.

Cancelling is also a bit confusing/hard. I thought I had cancelled, but ended up with a box yesterday, turns out I was just on a 24 week cycle. So I will need to email them to cancel.

Overall, I have not found them a good value. There is no discount at all unless you keep “everything” – and it’s only 30% if you do. For example to keep my last box, even with the discount, would have been $130! And just to keep the outfit and shoes I liked best would have been close to $90, since you don’t get a discount unless you get it all. And since it’s all Kidpik brand, they can set prices how they want to begin with. Sometimes the quality and style matches that price, but sometimes it doesn’t come close.

By comparison, Kidbox contains a mix of their own brands + name brands, there is a smaller discount even if you don’t keep the box, and the total discount for keeping a whole box can be well over 75-80% depending on if you get the already half off box during one of their half off sales. (E.g. 10 items for $55, when the retail might end up close to $300)

Styling has been hit/miss. The box we got yesterday was actually styles great, minus a pair of rhinestone skinny jeans like every other kid’s clothing box has been including. Unfortunately, the fit was really off, and sizing exchange wouldn’t have helped there. And the inclusion of a filler item she couldn’t use at all, an adult size pair of “one size” sunglasses, it didn’t make sense to keep the box.

My FAVORITE kids box that I recently discovered is beTWEEN the Bookends. It’s a book box for kids but also includes bookish and lifestyle items. It was created by a middle schooler, too. So cool! I think they have for picture books through middle grade, and options for boys and girls. I get it for my 9 year old and she’s obsessed

I appreciate your listings and descriptions as a great grand mother I am saddened by Kiwi going totally computer shutting out those of us not very savvy with this system. In the past I was able to set up my two annual orders on the phone however now I must wade through their myriad of many programs with no advice and only a computer robot to answer questions. I will have to find another resource or no program at all due to robotics taking over their system.

This is not meant to be sarcastic … But under the Kiwi.co the first subscription box..
“including Eureka Crate and Maker Crate for ages 14 to 104.” Age 104? No pun intended… Just thought it’d be funny…

The wooden toys from KiwiCo Panda Crate have not been durable. Please use them with caution. I Just signed up for the Junior Green Kids Crafts! I look at the reviews on MSA but only now saw that they have a junior version. One other Ive tried is Experience Early Learning from Mother Goose Time. We’ve tried the toddler version, and my boys love it.

I have such a great idea for these box companies and MSA. Would you ever get the “best of” to work with MSA and have parents buy a package that includes one of each box every month, for the discounted prices?
It would be such an amazing birthday/holiday present, and a way to try out each box and get a feel for which ones the kids and family want to subscribe to full time!!
The same could be done for every category: makeup, skincare, clothing, crafting! It would take so much stress off a new sub addict, not having to choose only one box! And it would really even the playing field for indie or new company subs.
Thanks for reading!
Love to everyone at MSA! Stay safe!

Do you mean like a sub that rotates through the boxes, or one where you get 10+ boxes a month to try? That might be a lot, lol…

But it would be interesting to have some way to easily compares subs, like the one company that packs up different brands of diapers for newborns so you can try out which one works best.

😩 My MIL has been asking for a subscription to buy for our daughter forever but these are all so expensive. She only wants to spend $10-$15 a month to replace her old Minifig subscription. If anyone has any ideas please feel free to let me know!

Is she into stickers by chance? Pipsticks https://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/2018/05/pipsticks-pro-club-petite-review-coupon-may-2018.html and STICKII https://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/category/stickii-reviewsare two popular sticker subscriptions that are around the $10-15 price point.
