The 27 Best Subscription Boxes for Teens in 2021

Christen Russo
ByChristen RussoFeb 14, 2020 | 20 comments

Whether your teenager loves reading, learning, or spending hours watching YouTube makeup tutorials, there’s a teen subscription box perfectly tailored to their interests. Kids love receiving something surprising in the mail — especially when that special something arrives on a regular basis. The subscription model can provide a sense of structure to your teen’s busy schedule, which is invaluable during those difficult teenage years.

And for parents, we’ve got some good news: Many subscription boxes for teens are remarkably affordable. Many can help to nurture your child as they navigate a particularly complicated part of life; a well-curated subscription service can provide a remarkable amount of value.

With a few clicks, you can find products to entertain, empower, and educate your child, and we’re ready to help. We’ve selected 27 of the best subscription services for teens, providing detailed descriptions of what you’ll get, what you’ll pay, and what sets each service apart.

Our list of trendy and terrific teen boxes comes from our full directory of subscription boxes for teens and tweens and readers’ favorite teen subscriptions.

Now on to our list of best Subscription Boxes for Teens as picked by the editors:

Cost: $12.00 per month + free US shipping, $2.95 shipping to Canada. Subscribe here!

What They’ll Get: IPSY delivers 5 beauty and personal care products a month, along with a cute makeup bag to store the new goodies. We love the attention to personalization — IPSY subscribers complete a quick Beauty Quiz, which collects info about their preferences, eye color, skin tone, favorite brands, and other basics. The service’s Glam Bag is carefully curated to meet the subscriber’s preferences.

While IPSY is inexpensive, each bag includes high-quality products from well-known brands. It’s a great way to experiment and grow a collection (and we can’t think of a better way to treat a beauty-obsessed teen).

In addition to the basic bag, IPSY offers the Glam Blag Plus, which includes full-size beauty products for only $25 per month. There’s also the Glam Bag X, a quarterly membership upgrade that puts the “X” in “extra” with 7-8 full-size products.

Overall, IPSY provides remarkable value at a great price. Subscription boxes for teens should give them something that they’ll anticipate all month long — for certain teens, IPSY checks all of the right boxes.

Check out our IPSY reviews, our latest spoilersand our IPSY details for more info on subscribing.

Cost: $29.99 per month + $4.99 shipping per box to the US and $8.99 per box shipping to Canada. Receive bonus items with longer subscriptions. Sign up here!

What They’ll Get: Creation Crate delivers engaging technology curriculum — and if the word “curriculum” sounds boring, don’t worry. Each Creation Crate project includes a combination of software and hardware, along with access to a web portal that provides detailed do-it-yourself instructions. Your teen might build a mood lamp, an FM tuner, a memory game, or an optical theremin (a musical instrument that uses light to produce an audio signal).

The projects start out simple, but the difficulty gradually increases over the course of the subscription. Teens will start out learning basic electronics and C++ programming, then tackle progressively more advanced components and concepts. Kids don’t realize how much they’re learning — but when you’re watching them assemble and program a digital multimeter, you’ll realize that you made a great decision.

Cost: $39.95 per month, plus free shipping on all orders over $49 to the continental US. Sign up here!

COUPON: Get your first pair of shoes for $10! No coupon needed - just use this link.

What They’ll Get: JustFab VIP is a membership-based service. Subscribers receive exclusive discounts on their tops, bottoms, dresses, shoes, activewear, and more. After completing a quick quiz, they’ll receive a curated list of products each month; they can choose to order those items by the 5th of the month, skip the month, or receive an account credit for the membership fee.

While that subscription model can be slightly confusing at first, the savings are tremendous: JustFab VIP offers 40 percent lower prices than what you’d find at retail, and they offer an outstanding selection of boutique products. The curation aspect is also valuable — if your teen has trouble picking out outfits (or simply loves exploring their options), the curated suggestions can provide plenty of inspiration.

Shoppers can also browse the JustFab store without a subscription (and without the discounts of the VIP membership).

9 items surrounding pusheen box

Image via our review.

Cost: $43.95 per quarter plus $6.00 shipping to the United States. Shipping costs vary internationally. Subscribe here!

What They’ll Get: Pusheen is that adorable cat drawing you’ve seen everywhere on the internet. It’s cute, right? If you answered “no,” we can’t hang out with you.

The character is highly collectible, and for obsessed teens and tweens, the Pusheen Box delivers dependable delight every three months. They’ll get exclusive first-edition Pusheen items including rare toys, electronics, clothes, stationery, and much more. The service is officially licensed by the Pusheen brand, and each shipment contains over $100 of gear. It’s even less expensive with the annual plan ($39.95 per box, pre-paid during checkout).

The seasonal themes help to keep each box full of surprises. And really: Is there a better way to greet the new season than a big box of cute cats?

Check out our Pusheen Box reviews and our Pusheen Box details for more info on subscribing.

Cost: $11.99 per month + free shipping. Sign up here!

What They’ll Get: Books work perfectly within the subscription delivery model, but curation is absolutely crucial.

That’s where Book of the Month YA stands out — each month, their curators choose five favorites from a variety of genres, and subscribers choose from those selections. The site presents clear plot summaries with helpful tags for identifying plot features (“Whodunit,” “Puzzle,” and “LOL”, for instance). Up to two additional books can be added for $9.99 each, which is often much lower than the retail value.

Whether or not your teen is a voracious reader, the Book of the Month YA subscription box will ignite their imagination and guide them into new literary experiences. The selection focuses on debut authors, early releases, and fresh perspectives, so each delivery is exciting and engaging.

When your teen is ready for an upgrade, Book of the Month also offers options for adult readers. The service is less expensive than a trip to the bookstore — and in our opinion, it’s a much better way to nurture a young reader.

giuliana carpenter

this company dia and co is a really good plus size option

Marie McCray

You may want to go through occasionally and double check what you have listed as the price and what the actual price is. I have clicked on several of the links only to discover that the price is greatly increased from what your website says.

Jansen

Not on the list but, If you love Kawaii/Pusheen/Sanrio you’ll love the Kawaii Box. My 9 year old LOVES it, such a great mix of hard to find items.

AHHHHH

as a teenager, im 14 i would never buy/order the boxes, doodle crate, kidpik (hell no its more for 6-10 year olds), tinker crate, quirky crate (ew who even uses those words alos other 6-10 year old box) if youre really looking for something to buy teenagers, makeup, skincare, clothes (ideas of places where we shop, romwe, H&M, Forever 21, Shien, and Vans), please dont buy them things that make them feellike 10 year olds… we dont wear pink clothes with the words “girl power” its horrible…

emily

but quirky crate has good stuff lol the name is weird i agree

Amy Rose

I totally agree! Like I’m not sure what 13+ year-old girl would want to wear bright glittery shoes and a shirt with girl power on it. Nice to tell them what we really feel!

Anna

I so Agree I hate pink & these boxes just aren’t for me, the leggings one maybe, but none of the other ones. Who even wheres words anymore!?!?!

Grandma J

Great advice! is there any subscription you would recommend?

Tricia

Lol, I’m a Mom of two girls 18 and 16 and I was thinking exactly what you said! That’s very nice of you to let all adults know the real truth so they don’t embarrass themselves or the teen girls 😉🤘🏽

Zoe

Would you like the Ipsy bag? My niece is 14 & I thought it would be a cool Christmas gift, to give her a year subscription🤷🏻‍♀️

Maddie

im 14 and I love ipsy.

me

im 13 and i completly agree gurl!!

Kelly

what about akibento? hehe I love YumeTwins and Pusheen, gotten before and super adorable!!

Starla

I just have to say Pusheen is the best sub box ever. It makes me so happy. And ,honestly, I don’t even care for cats that much. But I love Pusheen! Such a great assortment of items.

Julie

Pusheen for the win in this house. Once my teenager outgrew her “I’m a grown up” phase and realized its still ok to like kid things she came back to Pusheen. I love what they send in the box. Its such a fun variety and the themes are adorable.

Penny

I love the Pusheen box as well and I’m 51!❤️💕

Christen Russo

Ohhhh yes, Penny, we are big Pusheen fans over here as well!

Mimosa

A big upvote from me for the Pusheen Box. I bought it for my 9 year old daughter. Size ‘small’ yielded clothing that would fit a 12 year old perfectly, although my girl loves things to be super-roomy and comfortable, so the small size turned out to be perfect for her. She and I would be doing jumping high-fives whenever the adorable Pusheen Box would arrive! Every item found a use, although we would have preferred a Pusheen plush in each box, rather than the vinyl figure that makes an appearance every quarter. Can not recommend this box highly enough. In every delivery, all items were included, perfectly intact and great quality. The range of items was pretty inspired, too. My daughter is going to ask me to resubscribe for her 10th birthday. And even though I pretend that it is just for my daughter, I happily smile when I walk past our Pusheen calendar, photo holder, garland, plushes and key holder on my way to fetching a fantastic Pusheen tumbler for my drink. Pusheen forever x

Christen Russo

Pusheen for the win! Month after month, I swear everyone is so astounded at how much use they get out of the items. Such a great one. So glad you and your daughter are happy with it!
