The 16 Best Snack Subscription Boxes in 2022 – Readers’ Choice

Kat Giuffrida
ByKat GiuffridaJun 18, 2022 | 53 comments

Any time can be snack time with the right snack subscription box. And if you can get new snacks delivered to your home, it’s even better! The best snack subscription boxes can hit the spot, curb your appetite and satisfy your cravings. Whether you need to pack a snack for lunch or want to try something other than what your local grocery store carries, the right snack subscription gives you a steady supply of high-quality munchies that can be perfect for stocking your office breakroom, exploring treats from around the world, or even maintaining a healthier diet.

A subscription box can not only fill your belly, ensure you don’t drain your wallet. You may find that you’re saving money by not hitting up the company vending machines or by stocking up locally. The best subscription boxes will help you save some money because you’ll be paying less than you might pay if you bought all the snacks separately.

A snack subscription service will also save you time; you might not want to head to several different stores to search for unusual snacks or snacks with a certain flavor. You may not know how to find international snacks if you don’t have those kinds of stores in your neighborhood. With a snack subscription, you can rest at home and tasty snacks will come to you.

Every year, we ask our readers to share their top recommended subscriptions of all types. Then we ask our experts to share what they know about each subscription to make it easy for you to know which subscription is right for you. Below, you’ll find our insights for shopping snack subscription boxes, and see readers’ top choices for the best standard, Japanese, vegan, and keto snack subscriptions, plus more.

What To Look For When Shopping Snack Subscriptions

What makes a good snack subscription? Of course, you’ll want to choose the kinds of goodies that will taste best and appeal the most to your taste buds. However, since you can’t do a taste test before you order, you’ve got to have a keen sense of what may appeal. Based on our research, here's what you should look for to find the right snack subscription box for you:

  • Dietary Accommodations: If you’ve got a family member who is allergic to peanuts or another food, you know how serious it is to know beforehand what you’re dealing with. So explore whether a snack subscription works for your diet or accommodates any family allergies. There are some brands that offer boxes that can be somewhat customized to dietary preferences and needs.
  • Product Variety: Does the snack subscription you're considering offer plenty of options for the types of snacks? You'll want to choose a brand that treats you to some of your favorite snack types as well as surprising your taste buds with new ones. And switch it up! Try new subscriptions every now and then to make sure that everyone is still happy about the snacks that arrive from the subscriptions.
  • Customer Perks: Does this snack subscription offer member-exclusive deals or products? Do they have fun giveaways? Definitely go with a subscription that gives you more than what you asked for.
  • Value: Is this snack subscription more cost-effective compared to what you would get in stores, or does it at least offer products that are hard to find and worth the additional price? You'll want to choose a snack subscription that either provides you with an incredible deal or at least gives you access to treats that can't be found easily in stores.
  • Good Customer Ratings: Crushed cookies and chips will happen sometimes, and that’s ok; you just need to know that your subscription service will handle those issues with positivity and a quick resolution. We try to avoid brands with poor customer ratings, but be aware that service quality can fluctuate.
  • Past performance: Often, a company will have past boxes available or you can view spoilers for past boxes. Exploring boxes from the past can be the best way to ensure that you’re choosing snacks you’ll eat and enjoy. Each entry in our list includes a link to past reviews.

How to Get The Most Out of Your Snack Subscription Once You've Picked

Now that your mouth is watering and you’re ready to start tasting the snacks of your choice, it’s time to do the following so you can enjoy your new subscription:

  • Check for coupon codes. Many subscription boxes offer pretty good discounts for new subscribers, and here at MSA, we have the best coupons around. Keep an eye on our Deals page for money-saving coupons, discounts and special deals, and always make sure to check in with our reviews and brand pages for the best coupons before buying. If the price is right after a discount has been applied, you might be able to sample a bigger box or try a lengthier subscription.
  • Double-check Allergens and Special Diet Considerations. If there are dietary issues you or your family need to stay aware of, make sure you find out as much as you can. Check out a subscription’s FAQ if the information isn’t visible at first glance, or contact the subscription service and ask directly about the particular issue that might affect you.
  • Personalize your profile. Many snack subscriptions allow you to update your profile with your preferred tastes and adjust box sizes easily. Make sure to update your subscription so you're matched with the best snacks for you.
  • Find more to love! If you start falling out of love with your former favorite snack subscription, it might be time for a break. Find out if you can skip a box, or consider switching over to a brand new subscription. There are many snack subscriptions to try, and you may need to mix up things to keep your snacking on point. Remember to check recent coupons to give yourself an incentive to try something new!

Factors We Considered When Reviewing This List of Snack Subscriptions

This list features our fellow subscription fanatics’ top choices, as nominated and voted on, for snack subscriptions - and we agree! We've researched all the top brands and can share with you what we've learned about subscribers' top choices. Factors we considered include:

  • Reliability: If there are no snacks to eat or there’s a problem with the snacks you receive, that doesn’t make for an enjoyable experience. You’ve gotta eat! So, while accidents do happen and shipments aren’t always perfect, we have tried to select the snack subscriptions that are reliable, deliver on time and offer resolutions quickly if something goes wrong.
  • Taste: Snack subscriptions can do everything else right, but if the food isn't tasty, it's a total deal-breaker. Whether healthy snacks or comfort foods are on the menu, the food MUST taste good to make our list.
  • Packaging: In order to ship fresh ingredients to your front door, a fair amount of packaging is required. However, we value snack subscriptions that limit the amount of packaging used and opt for recyclable materials whenever possible.
  • Variety: Are there plenty of snacks in the box to meet each and every one of your cravings? When preparing this list, we sought out snack subscriptions that know how to keep things interesting.
  • Special Diets: Whether you follow a strict keto diet, prefer a plant-based menu, or are looking for waistline-friendly snacks, our list features snack subscriptions for a wide variety of dietary preferences.
  • Price: While we wish money was no object, the truth is that price is a key factor for most people when picking out the right snack subscription. Our list includes options to suit a variety of budgets.
  • Customer Reviews: We value the thoughts of the MSA community, and we've designed this list with their feedback in mind. Readers are encouraged to leave their own reviews on our brand pages, and their input has helped shape this list.

As of 6/30/22, Love with Food subscriptions have ended. I received an email saying that boxes already paid for beyond that date will still be fulfilled.

Definitely missing the Aloha Snack Box from Snack Hawaii! had no trouble and receive it every month. Haven’t been able to get there this year so this box has helped us feel like we are back there. Love it.

Japan Crate’s cheapest plan is $35+ a month – not the $25 you say.

I currently am subscribed to Woohoo Snacks and I would highly recommend them. They offer great value for the amount of snacks that come in the box and my kids get so excited to unbox it each month. They also offer delivery every 15 days alongside a monthly plan, one of my favs!

I have had a Universal Yums subscription for several years and I recommend it to anyone with kids. It is a fun family activity and we learn about new countries as we try their snacks. My girls love it (age 10 and 14).

I ordered Love with Food for my parents this past Christmas. So far no issues with delivery and they enjoy trying healthier snacks. Gives them something to look forward to while on COVID lockdown.

I would recommend both of these subscriptions.

Universal Yums is a great box! I started a subscription for my family last fall and we have had 5 boxes delivered without any issues at this point. As I read in one comparison between boxes, some months are heavier on the sweets than others. This box is neatly packaged and has a great presentation. My family opens and samples this box together; kids are 16, 15, and 12 and it is always a good time. We have the medium box and the print outs that come are pretty great – they describe the snacks, give interesting facts about the snacks and country, there’s a map that shows where they come from, some recipes, and a trivia section. The website is very easy to navigate and use; management of multiple subscriptions is a breeze. Due to restrictions with Covid-19 this year, I wanted to give a unique gift to some family and friends and something they could look forward to every month. I gave several subscriptions to the service for Christmas and everyone has given me positive feedback. Also, if there is a snack you end up really liking, you can go to the website and order just that snack.

Had a big issue with Love With Food not shipping out my subscription box. Contacted customer service and was basically told it’ll come when it comes and at this point it was the end of the month already. They offered to cancel my subscription, I had no problem doing that on my own. Never received that months box, they wouldn’t refund me for it. Finally had to have my bank reverse the charge to get my money back.

I ordered from snack crate and they told me my order wouldn’t ship until the 15th of the month but I actually received my snack crate on the 13th. So I got the box 2 days before it was supposed to ship. This was literally about 4 days after I placed my order. It was awesome! Snack Crate is the best.

Same issue. Been waiting for 5 days for a response from the company. I signed up because MSA recommended this company. MSA really needs to vet their companies more.

So sorry to hear this, Sherry! We only recommend brands that we feel are trustworthy and provide great value to subscribers. That being said, this list represents the top-voted subscription brands according to thousands of MSA readers’ experiences.

Unfortunately, some boxes have experienced delays in shipping and customer support response time amid the pandemic, which sounds like what may be happening here. If you don’t hear back from them soon, please feel free to email me ([email protected]) and we will reach out to the brand on your behalf.

Japan crate has been amazing, starting it up again. They had fun snacks and great customer service. Delivery was awesome and timely.

Universal yums had cheap snacks, some were really good tbh, but the cost just wasn’t worth what I was receiving and the best snacks you can’t even buy from their store.

I was attempting to try snack crate but I’ve canceled it before I’ve even received my items. If I ever even do. One was stuck in florida for days and the other has been in transit for over a week now. The stuff looks awesome but their customer service is so trash that I just don’t wanna bother with them. They delete negative experiences from the their Facebook page and they never respond to emails.

Might try munchpak next. I really want a monthly subscription that has snacks from around the world but so far have had terrible experiences with those kinds.

This is confusing! Why is the title stating that this is the 2021 Reader’s Choice list when I see a comment that I wrote 6 months ago about it? And other comments from 2 years ago on here?

I have had SnackCrate for 5 months and have enjoyed the experience thus far. It has been like opening a Christmas present and is very exciting. It creates a great family time when you read some facts about the country and discuss each flavour before and after trying.

I found snacknation about 2 months ago and sent a gift box to a family member and decided to try for myself. The gift box got to family member but they messed up on my order. I reached out to customer service and they resent a new box. The variety for a 50 snack box was about 4 of each kind of snack. A good variety of snacks though but kind of pricey ( $70) I had a coupon and ended up paying about $62. It was good to try to learn about new kinds of snacks! Interested in trying other companies.

Hello,

We are doing a step challenge and would like to provide 6-month snack sets to our participants who reach their goal.

Can you tell me exactly how this could work for us? Thank you!

Yuck to the Variety Fun box. I’d only buy it if I lived in a different country but once every 3 months. American’s snacks are just gross. 😝 Our diets are the worst. Terrible foods, bigger portions and expensive healthcare.

I get the Super Yum Box. I take nibbles of everything then let my husband devour the rest.

I haven’t received my products from Variety Fun either. My money was withdrawn on July 24 but my subscription is still marked “paid/unfulfilled”. I’ve made 3 attempts to contact this company but have not gotten a response. Buyer beware!!

I tried a couple of these and honestly I think that Variety Fun should be higher on the list. One of the only services that promised brand name snacks and actually delivered.

I’m so glad to see that Universal Yums is number one! I was so excited to receive my first box and told a friend of mine that lives in France what I got. I have a few other friends in different countries and they would like to know what I would get. I also signed up for SnackCrate and I’ve been highly impressed with them as well. Both companies are great. Especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.

I’ve been subscribed to Universal Yums for over a year and a half now and I went from the Yumbox subscription to Super Yumbox because I loved it so much. (After a while they sent me a larger box for free and I was hooked.) Nothing bad to say about them and great customer service! One time, a tube of candy was empty, I sent an email and they sent me 2 replacements and 2 extra snacks!

Yay for Universal Yums! I completely agree with it being #1 (and I don’t see Graze listed so maybe they removed it?). I’ve subbed for a while now and it has always shipped on time, the snacks are interesting and we love reading about the countries. This is the way to do sub boxes!!!

I had terrible customer service from snack nation, they overcharged and didnt respond for a week until I canceled, which they then responded to within a couple hours, (it appeared to be a real person and not automated) which meant theyd simply been ignoring my previous inquiries over the wrong price the whole time. I was really disappointed, I felt like they didnt care at all.

There are some Kosher crates, but your best bet might be a vegan snackbox. No need to worry about Kashrut when eating vegan snacks. 🙂
