The Cost: $25 per month. Subscribe here!

What Our Readers Say:

“With three choices and all full size items, and they use profile information, it’s hard to beat Ipsy Plus for overall value. I have never been disappointed in Plus.” – Lin

“I chose Ipsy Glam Bag Plus because you get a mix of skincare and makeup. Also you get to pick 3 out of 5 products!” – Leslie

“Ipsy plus offers the best value for the price and they are skincare-heavy, which I love! They would be perfect if they allowed us to choose from all the products in a category!” -Srg

About the Box: Topping our list of best skincare subscriptions this year is Ipsy Glam Bag Plus! This beauty subscription is an upgrade option from the regular Ipsy Glam Bag ($12/month), and our readers are really amped over it for a few reasons: first off, every box comes packed with a whopping 5 full-size products that are a mix of skincare and makeup. Wowzers! What’s more: last year, Ipsy implemented an update that now allows subscribers to choose 3 of the product they’ll receive in each box (from a monthly rotating assortment of 10). For the rest, their profile preferences are consulted, so they’ll only be sent the creams, lip balms, cheek stains, palettes, and brushes they know they’ll love. Ipsy is also adored for sending new beauty brands mixed in with well-known ones, so there’s a balance of fun familiarity and opps to find new faves!

Is It Customizable? Each tier of Ipsy allows subscribers to choose at least one product each month—Glam Blag Plus allows you to choose 3 out of the 5 total products that come in the monthly box.

Comments (72)

  1. Totally disagree…it’s a mini box & the price is unreasonable

  2. For strictly skincare? I highly recommend beautyfix. They offer a lot of samples but always at least one full size and the samples are usually brands you cant get in another box. I quit them just because I had so much skincare but that was a year ago and now I’m thinking of coming back since I used a lot of my stash

  3. Margot Elena, Petit Vour, & Sunday Riley!!!!! I got BoxyCharm last year for Christmas. I am cancelling after this Christmas. It’s been really lovely though.

    • Sunday Riley doesn’t appear to exist anymore 🙁

  4. I’m not sure where to ask this, so I’ll try here: is the Sunday Riley sub box no longer available? Every link to it that I could find including those here on MSA comes up “404 not found”. Help! I want this box!

    • The Sunday Riley box is not happening right now. They have said it will return but have not said when.

  5. It says that Ipsy plus and Ipsy Ultimate is shipped in Canada and they don’t.

  6. I’m shocked facetory isn’t higher on the list. I get boxycharm, both premium and regular, ipsy glam bag plus, fab fit fun, fashionista, allure and facetory. Facetory is by far my favorite.

    • I get Facetory as well, for over a year now! Love them, so cheap really I have the 4 a month, and lately they have been adding freebies so I get 5 sometimes 6!! I have sooo many now stored up🤣

    • I get three: 7! Lux, the previous skin by concern subs (which they’ll do which just their products now) and the quarterly beauty box. They are by my face and I get a free other Korean skin care boxes and masks.

  7. I was underwhelmed by FabFitFun, my winter box was all products I wouldn’t buy or use and was the reason I quit. Some of the products in my FFF boxes seemed like an afterthought and were cheap.
I enjoyed BoxyCharm, good quality products for sure but Ipsy is my fave, for a ‘mostly makeup’ box, I have gotten some of my fave skin care products from Ipsy, such as the Dr. Brandt microdermabrasion scrub and the Goldfadden MD scrub, also Purlise products which work so well. Plus a cute makeup bag, I’m an organizational addict and I use my Ipsy bags for all sorts of things. The Glam Bag Ultimate is a dream. 8 full size 4 samples for $50 is a killer deal and none of their products have aggravated my sensitive skin. The bag is huge too!

    • I agree completely. My first box was nice. The second was okay. My third was just literally garbage. For 50 dollars I’ve got eye cream which every other cheap beauty box sends some bath salts hand cream, eye masks and body lotion which costs 13 dollars or less. I canceled right away too. I think they got to comfortable giving people junk.

    • I just ordered an Ipsy $25 and $37 box(Ive subscribed to them in past for year) well as my first Birchbox(which i havent received yet. Im trying to find more skincare choices. I have a lot of actual makeup but July 1st i will be turning 46. I dont have many wrinkles BUT i know theyre coming and I’d like to correct my fine lines and wrinkles that i do have. I noticed my neck is showing age and damage wrinkles from tanning age etc. Anyone know the best box for me to try more cleansers , moisturizers, fix it serums and creams. I mean i like makeup as well but i want to gear more towards the repair products…please help! Thank you!

      • Did you find any that were strictly skincare? I’m 40 and currently do ipsy I just do smallest one in case I dont care for it however I check daily for deals and have gotten some great things with add ons . Birchbox I do as well but again lots of make up I enjoy fff as their is variety. I started facetory last month I do 7 masks w bonus item for 19.95. Sheet masks and u get a bonus item… I’m thinking about adding the quaterly as u get 5-6 sheet masks AND 5-6 products of variety… for 49.95…no make up. I really love the sheet masks as I am new to them… But I am with you on finding skincare only!!! Let me know if you have found one aside from the one I mentioned! 😊

      • I’m 44 and giving a try to Dermstore. So far, Allure brings me good options. But I feel I need more Skincare stuff 😁

      • Petite Vour or DermStore

      • have any of you found a box for just skincare? I just looked at dermstore and i’m not seeing it on their site. Any other suggestion?

      • I have not tried this box, but I am looking for the same thing – 49 here! Eek! I just found this one called Aster skincare. It is strictly anti-aging so I’m going to give it a try. But just wanted to give you a heads up if you want to check out one that is just for the things you want to focus on (as I do too).

  8. I’d add Mintd and Kleverparkbox, probably the best you can receive from Europe. Both amazing.

  9. I liked the list gave me some ideas on what to try for the new year I know a lot of people are saying that boxy and ipsy shouldn’t be on the list but the fact is that the ultimate box from ipsy is mostly skincare I might get one or two products that are makeup and the rest is skincare and they have great brands like murad it cosmetics glamglow and same with the plus yes there is makeup but you set up a profile with them and tell them what you like if you mostly like skincare than your more than likely to get a mostly skincare box mine is set to half makeup half skincare and I mostly get skincare which I love same with boxy yes you do get makeup but you also get some great skin care such as Dr. Brant glow recipe wanderlust and a lot of great brands also ipsy has 111 skin which is a fantastic brand and I always get super pumped when I see we are getting that in a box in my February boxycharm box next month I’m getting a kate Somerville skin product so I do agree with the list that boxy and ipsy should be on the best skin care boxes

  10. I am truly a skin care addict. The subscriptions I enjoy the most are the New Beauty Test Tube(the award boxes also), Beautyfix, Allure, Glossybox limited editions, Mintd, and Beauty Heros. Some are quarterly, I end up paying $130 a month. I have the best skincare in the world and I still look very young to be in my fifties. It is cheaper than plastic surgery or fillers. I am able to use a ton of product on my face(neck, chest, back of hands) and love doing a seven step process each time I wash my face. I only use subscription beauty and give extras to friends and families. They love my products also!
Thank you Liz and your amazing team for guiding and reviewing products for the last few years. MSA has been a blessing.

    • Hello!! I am also nearing 50 this year and I wanted your opinion. If I could get one (or two) subscription boxes just for the skin care, which one would you recommend?? Thanks!!

      • I just turned 50 and I have been using Birchbox for the last 2 years and it has been a life saver. I have been able to try so many brands that I normally would not be able to afford. I have gone on to purchase many of the items I have tried. I also have given away Birchbox subscriptions as gifts. I have never tried any other subscription boxes so I cannot compare it but I really think it is definitely worth 15 bucks a month.

      • Probably BOXYCHARM or Birchbox!

      • If you want top-quality products subscribe to Laurel & Reed, Bombay & Cedar and Kinder box. All Vegan and good for the environment. I’m over 50 and love everything so far and sub to over 20 boxes. Have sensitive skin and have no problems with LAurel and Reed ever. Their June box is my new fav.

      • If you want top-quality products, subscribe to Laurel & Reed, Bombay & Cedar, and Kinder box. All Vegan and good for the environment. I’m over 50 and love everything so far and sub to over 20 boxes. Have sensitive skin and have no problems with LAurel and Reed ever. Their June box is my new fav.

  11. Went to get “The Box”. I’m looking for a new one around $20 a month. They bumped theirs up to 24.99. Havent seen any reviews to know what the usual lineup for them is. So I will pass. Boxy has too many variables and I always end up with the crappy box. Ipsy has too many off brands.

    • My first review of The Box By Fashionsta (December) will be posting very soon, so keep an eye out!

    • The box just raised their prices but grandfathered the people that were previous subscribers to their box at the original price. They had to raise it because it was costing them a fortune in shipping costs. They were not mocking a profit from this box at all. I hope with the cost increase we get higher end products. I really enjoy the variety of things I receive in my box and I usually end up using close to everything (unlike most of my subscription boxes-so that says a lot). They feature Indy brands and and small Businesses and sometimes you will see a brand you are familiar with like sigma. If you want higher end items get their Mystery Box for $40 a month. I know November they had a Two faced pallete in there. That box is more geared for brand named items.

  12. Wow, surprised TestTube didn’t rank higher. It really is a fantastic box for skincare junkies and has introduced me to a lot of brands and products I wouldn’t have otherwise tried. HATE that they charge shipping and a bit pricier than it’s competitors, but worth it considering the difference in product size, exposure to various brands and curation.

  13. I don’t think BoxyCharm and Ipsy count as skin care boxes.

    • If I want skin care box (I don’t do make up), I should not subscribe to both BoxyCharm & Ipsy, correct??? Anyone can help answer.

    • I get mostly skin care, and have for years. I now subscribe to the plus and X bag, and it’s well worth it.

  14. In 2019 I did three Beauty boxes. I did detox box for 6 mos. It was beautifully packaged and it had wonderful products but the only one I bought again was the lapis oil herbivore. Great if your skin is inflamed or you have rosacea.

I also got the beauteque box. Which was super fun. Korean products are always great and effective.

I also got the Sisley Paris six month subscription. That I feel is a win-win. It’s $10 a month no shipping. You easily get over $10 worth of samples. I had no concept when I ordered but their stuff is very very pricey. I did fall in love with a very expensive cleanser that I was able to get at a huge discount at Harrods online. And they had a Black Friday Black Rose special so I treated myself to two products. One I had used in the box and I absolutely loved it. I may do them again for a year. I never had a problem with customer service at all.

I’m thinking of doing kleverpark next. It’s quite an investment of $100 every 2 months. you get enough product to last you two months. Everything is from Italy. It just looks like a really classy box.

I am only interested in the beauty boxes that are 95% skincare. I’m also going to do the bakery Box by Shea Shea.. I’m just a sucker for Bakery scents. But that has body wash body butter Etc. I’m just not much into makeup.

    • Sisley’s monthly box service is no more! I got a letter that a new type of service will be available in late spring. 2020.

    • I just ordered my second Kleverpark box. I love it and used everything in the box. It seems that they try to vary product types so that product overload is less of an issue. I highly recommend Kleverpark!

  15. FYI–Boxycharm is increasing to $25 in November, 2019.

    • Thank you, Flora! It does say on their website that the box is $21 per month for October’s box and increases to $25 per month starting with November’s box.

  16. Does anyone have an updated BeautyFix coupon for new subscribers? I used the one listed and it didn’t work. Thanks!

    • Try looking at the latest Beautyfix review here on MSA.

    • They rarely have coupons. You might be between deals.

  17. I love skin care and have never subbed to ipsy or Boxcharm since there are mostly makeup. I actually like Box of Style for skin care. Rachel Zoe always sends one nice product usually full size. Not a skin care box but high quality and percentage wise probable comparable to Ipsy and Boxy.

  18. Yeah good point! Anyways, since msa is apparently going to leave these comments up, I will plug the r slash antimlm subreddit for anyone that wants to look into why mlms have such questionable practices.

  19. I didn’t get the last couple of Test Tubes, mostly because of product overload. But that box that is pictured was one of the most amazing sub boxes I ever received–a full size Sunday Riley, two great K-Beauty items, and some new discoveries. Loved it!

  20. Look Fantastic should be on this list. Lots of nice skincare, for $15 a month, and no teeny tiny samples like birchbox sends. Ipsy is not even close to a skincare box. I tried and tried to adjust my profile for over a year and still got almost all makeup.

    • The “Look Fantastic Beauty Box” 12 mo subscription is $16 mo, get 6 products. I looked on YouTube for the March and April box and I am underwhelmed by the products but for $16 it is what it is.

BUT, the “Beauty Egg” looks like a lot of fun (hello big gold egg), $80 for 7 FULL SIZE products.

As if there is such as thing as too many options, there is “The Limited Edition” beauty boxes, 6-7 products for ~$58 – $125 **AND** the “Discovery Bags”, 5 products for ~$21 – $48, which honestly these products are more appealing than the ones in the “Beauty Box”.

      Note: (~) means prices vary.

THANK YOU @Laura B for recommending this site!

  21. New Beauty test tube I like so much better than Beautyfix they mostly send you samples then tubes are half full

  22. TestTube looked AMAZING!!!!!

  23. I was really disappointed with ipsy. It’s more makeup than anything. I also didn’t care for the fact that they thought a small brush was a fullsize product.

    • Some brushes intended for travel or precision application are manufactured smaller than other brushes. Yes, they ARE full-size products.

  24. FabFitFun, while it is a little bit more pricey, it comes with full size skin/ beauty products! I have never gotten a box that I didn’t love and it has a $200 value of products every time you get it! They are high end products and I can’t believe it didn’t make it up there!

    • My ultimate favorite is FabFitFun!!!

    • Its like number four on the list

    • FabFitFun is #6

  25. Pearlesque and Beauteque Beauty Box

    • I am looking into the Pearlesque subscription, though its pricey, I like the fact that they feature organic brands.

  26. There’s a pretty new box, PinkSeoul, that has both a monthly mask box and a bimonthly skincare box. As you can tell by the name, it features all Korean products, many new to the market. I get the bimonthly box, and they have some FANTASTIC products in it. It’s a complete skincare routine, all full-sized products, every other month! I’ve been introduced to a couple of new favorite products that I absolutely adore, like the best cleansing balm ever, and even if the products aren’t available at any other US outlets, PinkSeoul has them — and priced reasonably — in their own store. I highly recommend their skincare box!

Also, FaceTory has a new lux box that has three masks, three full-sized products, and one “specialty product.” It’s always fun, and thus far I’ve found every product very usable; there’s nothing, for example, with heavy fragrances, which is helpful since even a hand lotion can have enough fragrance to block my sinuses shut. This box is a bit more expensive at $31, but I was starting to drown in a pile of masks — it feels like everyone is sending out at least one!

    • I love PinkSeoul. Almost all of my daily go-to’s have come from things they’ve sent me. It’s also very easy to skip any shipment so you don’t get too overloaded. I did fill out a short skin type survey when I signed up and so far everything I’ve gotten has been perfect for me.

  27. I have tried Ipsy and Boxycharm boxes and they both are great! I was looking for another one and I think I’m going to subscribe to curology because it for skin concerns and I need recommendations 😭

  28. Pearlesque should be included, imo…..and replacing Boxycharm which is 99% makeup…

  29. How did Pearlesque not make it on this list?!?

  30. I’m sad that Pearlesque didn’t make the top skincare box list. It has a super great curation, the CS and owner are incredibly nice and prompt.

In 2+ years, I’ve never been disappointed by my Pearlesque box’s contents. The cost is really reasonable for the high brand quality, small batch products they source as well.

I hope more MSA readers will give it a try with a discount code.. I truly believe you’ll love it! 😉

    • Totally agree…it’s a great box & the price is reasonable!
Maybe not many vote for/subscribe to Pearlesque 🙁
The mystery is…how could Boxycharm be here? It’s even no. 7 in the list of 16!
It only has an average of 1 skincare product/box. If I want a skincare box, I wouldn’t get boxycharm. It’s a great box, but more suitable to be called a make up box.

    • I agree! Pearlesque should be on this list but I see they quit reviewing it back in March so maybe that’s why it’s not on here. I have never been disappointed in Pearlesque. The Berlin skin line was my favorite find ever.

    • I also love Pearlesque. I consider it on par with Detox Box, Boxwalla, Beauty Heroes, and Clean Beauty Box–all fabulously curated clean, green, cruelty-free boxes that I absolutely love. I have discovered amazing, high quality skincare products through all of these boxes.
