  1. I’m gonna miss PopSugarMustHave box. I really liked that one.

  2. I have the same problem with Ipsy sending me the same things over and over again. I get the Glam Bag and Glam Bag Plus and have been getting the small one 3yrs and the bigger one since it first came out about 11/2 yrs. I’m not sure why we even fill out profile for likes and dislikes or answer the reviews because I’ve gotten a black liquid eyeliner in BOTH bags at the same time more than once and black liquid eyeliner in at least one of them for 6months straight. I feel like this is robbing me of spot could be getting a new product. Who in the world needs or could use the 15 eyeliners I’ve gotten now?! And I sent a message to Ipsy about it to get the response of they don’t see my profile in their records or know who I am… Really??? They’ve known who I was at billing time for 3yrs now!! It’s so dang frustrating that I just cancelled my small Ipsy and will see if the Plus continues to act up. They need a better system or at least apply the system they say they have. The repeats in my are just beyond ridiculous. Just wanted to share that with you. Thank you. 😊

  3. Nope! I definitely don’t agree with this list.

  4. I’m surprised mintMongoose is not listed. I actually quite like it with the price point I pay and the pieces of jewelry are nice and I love how personal it is.

  5. I am totally not happy with BoxyCharm/Boxyluxe anymore since their products seems to be of lesser quality even though they have the same brand sold at stores for example Sephora. Sometimes I would get some items which I have bought before in Sephora but somehow theirs seem to be of lesser quality even though it is the same packing and brand name. Furthermore, they seem always to include more and more Made in China products be it eyeshadow or lipstick or face creams and I would not ever put those on my face, as China products are notoriously known to contain ingredients not safe to use like for example high lead content. So beware of these even though they use the gimmick of full size products. And also, their website do not allow you to review anything less than 4 stars or 3 stars.

  6. Same, it isn’t worth it. I have used one thing from my first box and then everything else is just sitting in my drawer!

  7. Say G-bye to PopSugar. It’s no more.

  8. Ipsy was my first subscription and I loved it. It’s great for the price but you get what you pay for and that is all sample size products. I switched over to Boxy Charm for $10/15 more and it’s AMAZING! You get full size products and the box values for sometimes over $300. You can’t beat that. I get anything from Tarte to Nars to all kinds of really great high-end cosmetic, skin care, and hair care brands. I just signed up for ScentBird today and I’m really excited. I’ll be getting fragrances by Versace and Gucci for super cheap. I realize they’re small but I don’t need a lot and I’ll be able to swap between fragrances. I thought about Fab, Fit, Fun but that’s a little bit more than I want to spend for products I may not want.

  9. I cancelled my ipsy as it seemed that the items were getting smaller and smaller and wasn’t worth it in cad dollars. Instead signed up up for fabfitfun and causebox

    • Should also mention the ipsy I did have was the basic bag as that’s all we can get in Canada. I now have FFF, causebox, boxycharm and boxycharm premium

      • You should definitely try the Allure box at only $15 a month and three of the items are full sized with 5 or 6 total i beleive. I live it and its all Allures favorites which is a Awesome deal in my opinion.

  10. I have had ipsy for over a year now and i just recently cancelled it, I did the glam bag plus, which is 5-6 full size products every month. I am completely cruelty free and I wish they gave the option to receive only vegan and cruelty free products. I always have problems with DHL who they ship with to certain places in the US, packages were always a week to two weeks late because of DHL. Not only that but items were kind of just meh after a while, they always send me things I specifically say I don’t want. If you do go with ipsy its an overwhelming amount of the same items every time, it gets boring after a while. They do have great customer service and that is the only thing i have never had issues with!

  11. Scentsy has a monthly subscription box for $40 + tax and shipping (CAD) and it should be on this list!

    • Nope, Scentsy is an MLM and should be avoided

      • MLM?? What’s that?

      • Angie, What is MLM? What’s wrong with Scentsy?

      • MLM= Multi Level Marketing. That means that it is a pyramid scheme.

      • MLM is direct sales. It is not a pyramid scheme. Pyramid Schemes are illegal. If you choose not to purchase from a direct sales company fine but you should not trash others choices.

      • bb, I’m thinking you may be involved in one of those traps/pyramid schemes/MLMs if you’re seriously here defending them. They are 100% pyramid schemes and their business model is the literal definition of a pyramid scheme.

If you are in fact involved in one of those predatory traps, I hope you see the light soon and get out, for your sake and if you have kids, for their sakes. The odds of coming out ahead are so low that it’s almost impossible.

  12. The FRIYAY Code on the singleswag box isn’t working? Is there an update?

    • KISSIT

  13. I love FabFitFun. I saw some people don’t like the items, but, hey, everyone is different.

I got my first box May 1st (I ordered on April 17th. I was late to the party.). I thought the quality was impressive. I can’t wait for the summer one.

    • I have been getting FFF since 2018 and the Summer box this time around never shipped. They took my money in May then sent my shipping notification in June. Come to find out yesterday it never shipped. And when I requested a new box after they lied and said it got lost, they didn’t ship that one! 3rd time around they could not guarantee when it would ship and what would be in it so I told them to just cancel it. Not sure when I will get my money back. They have really gone down hill. Now I am looking for a new subscription. I really enjoyed the box but it isn’t worth the trouble of having to track it down.

      • Tell them you are contacting better business review amd actually leave a review on that website. They will refund it pretty quickly. I went through that and they finally got my money back.

  14. Ive previously subscribed to Ipsy, they overdrafted my account multiple times and the products were lack luster. I switched to BoxyCharm about half a year ago and they ship their box out super quickly in the beginning of the month, send you an email with the tracking number so you can check up every so often and my products have been 10/10 amazing. They truly customize to you and have over 20+ products that they select from for you individually instead of selecting from 10 or less for the masses as a whole like Ipsy (my friends and I were all subscribed and when we recieved our products they were all the same despite us all having different skin types, colors and tones.). For anyone looking for an excellent makeup subscription I HIGHLY recommend Boxy Charm

    • Agreed! I have had a great experience with them. And the products are really great. My face is so nice , I can’t even begin to explain.

  15. IPSY has lost my 2 subscriptions. One was mine, the other for my daughter. They take from my acct the 1st of every month. Xs 2. They took the 2 bag $ out March 29, 2020 for my April bags. Why??? I’m guessing because ppl r cancelling due to the lockdown & no $. They just went in over drew my acct without my permission. Now…they won’t answer my emails. I want my overdraft $ back. I’m retired & only have $ on the 1st. They made the due date. Not me. But, I’m turning them in for taking advantage of the lockdown and poor practices.

    • Exactly…still waiting! I cancelled once!!

    • They did warn us ahead of time that the payment would be taken earlier than usual.

      • I have tried IPSY twice, I have never gotten a box from them. It is a scam

  16. I just canceled my FFF, due to the consent OOS and their poor customer service. I loved the products and sales. But to many OOS issues. Almost every time i contacted CS i was insulted. I have not had any issues with boxycharm or scent box. Looking into other subscription services

    • I’ve had the same problem. Also they charged my card three times in November. I received two boxes and they won’t refund one of the charges. I love the boxes but it’s not worth the other issues.

    • I just had an awful experience with their customer service as well…insulted. I ended up canceling simply because of the CS was SO bad.

    • I just cancelled FFF tonight due to extremely poor customer service and a lack of well, having their stuff together to put it nicely. They lost a good order tonight and an annual subscription service. What is wrong with these companies lately.

    • I highly recommend you try CauseBox. I’ve been with them for about 2+ years. Fantastic items and great CS (I’ve only had to email them once). I love this box!

      • I cancelled my FFF box because I was finding i wasn’t using the products and always Dissatisfied with each seasonal box and the items they contained. How do use over half of those items to gift away for birthdays and Christmases and so on. Switched over to the Causebox and love it! Products that I actually love and use! I’m trying to find another subscription box but nothing is drawing my attention. Whatever boxes I find only ship in the US and not Canada.

    • I canceled my subscription to FFF. Their product choices seemed to worse the more it went along.

    • Ipsy is NOT a scam . I’ve been getting their boxes for 3 years!!!

  17. Tried many but my 3 favorites by far are FFF, Smartassandsass, and Singleswag. Probably in this order to!! Deciding if I wanna try Causebox.

    • I just tried Causebox and as soon as my annual subscription is up I’m done. Late shipping, items of poor quality, FFF had them beat.

  18. FFF has no “fit” products; jewelry not great quality, products just aren’t worth the money – I was a subscriber for years and finally decided to stop wasting money when only one or two products were decent.

  19. Yeah, the #9 spot is due to the FB group created by the CEO…its almost February and nobody has received their tracking info for the January box…every single month its a different excuse. Now they have raised their price to Boxycharm base box…what a joke…all home product with no safety seal it unknown Indy products…they lured customer in with the first box…Tarte, beauty blender…and now claim they are different supposed in a positive way, send overpriced crap…the group members are hateful and if you don’t agree with them this is the best box ever…you get talked to like trash…then promptly blocked from the page. Its now Jan 24 the
….I have cancelled after this month both my hubby box and mine as well for February…he was charged on Jan 13th and his box is due to arrive tomorrow…yet I don’t even have confirmation on a shipping label printed and paid on the first…unacceptable to first collect funds…then plan a box…wait on items to be sent to them and almost a month later shipped to customer…oh and if you get something damaged…you can only get a replacement if you continue your sub for the following month

    • Hi Beverly, thanks for sharing your experience with the community! MSA did recently start reviewing this box since there was some interest from readers, and we’re paying for it ourselves so we can get the same experience as any paying customer. They do seem to typically ship the 3rd week of the month in our experience so far. If any readers want to keep up on the latest posts and comments about The Box, you can see the latest reviews here:

  20. They use my comment about Ipsy! 🙂

    • used*

  21. Finally! The box by Fashionsta gets a mention on MSA!!
This is my favorite box and Im subscribrd to dozens!

    • The Box by Fashonsta December review is forthcoming!

  22. I know that MSA always tries to be positive, but I would like a post about subscription box companies that deserve to be in a Hall of Shame. I want to know which companies to avoid, or at least ones that have sketchy, or just plain bad, customer service. Companies like FFF are all well and good until it takes them literally MONTHS to deliver your box, and make pathetic excuses for why they refuse to take responsibility for failure. Or companies that use the MSA comment section to accuse their customers of being dishonest thieves (when it is they who fail to respond to email enquiries). A Hall of Shame is warranted for these unscrupulous companies with questionable ethics.

    • I totally get where you’re coming from but you have to remember that not everyone has had the same experiences you have (for example, I’ve had nothing but great experiences with FFF). I personally think it would be very irresponsible of MSA to condemn a company or subscription box in the way you suggest. Part of what I think MSA does best is that they strive to be as neutral as possible while allowing comments from users to relay the sorts of things you seem to be looking for. I have definitely used comments to inform my subscription choices and would encourage you to do the same. People are not shy about sharing what they love and hate about subs; the spoiler posts are particularly good for that sort of thing. Good luck!

    • They sometimes comment at the end of certain box reviews that users have reported problems with customer service for a box.

You can also sometimes find user comments under box reviews of their experiences, and boxes have the ‘ratings’ feature as well. It’s usually pretty obvious what boxes have been rated low in customer service.

My personal Hall of Shame would include Cosmo (poor customer service, had to dispute with credit card company when they charged me after cancelling,) Sugarbash (poor customer service, no longer offered,) Julep (no longer has a sub, but many of their nail products trashed my formerly healthy nails,) and GlobeIn [some products are terrible quality, and despite that some are nice, there isn’t good QA overall. Once my husband started commenting on how dysfunctional/cheap many of the items were (not knowing where they were from) I canceled.]

But every person has their own experiences, so some users having bad experiences doesn’t mean everyone does.

      • Just go to the boxes Instagrams sites! Or Facebook pages you can see for yourselves what people are saying!

    • I agree, but you will never see a negative comment on this site against FFF. It would be deleted immediately.

      • Twice my comments were deleted. No poster was harmed. My comment was that I cancelled my subscription because the same items can be found in TJMaxx and Marshall’s without the shipping mixups. It was gone the next day.

      • Ive left several negative comments regarding my experiences with FFF on MSA and they have posted all of them.

    • I had a couple bad experiences with FFF the customer service was awful I paid annually so I could customize my box I did that & got nothing I chose called in about it & was told we can send you the items you want & just charge you for them ! I asked why I was getting charged & I was told because I already had my box ! They did more than once to me

      • I agree completely about FFF! Just got my box today and of course, did not get some of the items that I selected as an annual member. Instead, I received crap that I did not select (because I did not want it!). Also paid for an “add-on” and this is the second time that a paid add-on arrived and was defective. I think they are buying bad lots and selling them. About to cancel this subscription, but first going to try and get credit for the non-usable product they shipped. Wish me luck!

    • Do not EVEN bother with Glossybox! They started double billing me and would not let me return the extra boxes! I was forced to pay double for 3 months because I was calling in with my complaint after the 14th of the month so they could not stop autopay! I cancelled my subscription the day I got my box the month after the double billing ended and boom…here comes another Glossybox and same thing. You cancelled after the 14th so we had to bill you again! I’m sorry but the lady on the phone told me my subscription was canceled!

  23. Coastal Co. is now called Beachly – I have been a loyal subscriber since last fall and it is by far, the best subscription box, better than FFF and Yoga Club!

    • I’m a subscriber to two different monthly IPSY boxes, $12.95 starter (and least expensive) and the monthly IPSY GLAM @$25.00.

It seems that there are too many samples vs full size products in each of the boxes. You take a survey initially pertaining to your likes, dislikes and special needs. After getting 2 red lipsticks and one matching red nail polish, and 3 black eyeliner I really have to question why I filled out the required questions before I completed my membership. At least 1/2 of each bag I give away. I’m ready for something new!

      • You do realize that the regular Ipsy Glam Bag ($12) is a SAMPLE SIZE product bag and you will only receive sample sizes in it. Thats why its so cheap. The glam bag plus ($25) is 5 full size products, no samples ever…

  24. Tipsy sends me the same thing over and over again! Birchbox is my favorite and has been for years. I really want to try FFF tho.

  25. I love Margot Elena as a nose, as well as the aesthetic of her stuff; but I’ve either already smelled most her scents that interest me or they are discontinued. I’m tempted, but not sure if the box would really be worth it for me personally… Very interested though. Just as a scent obsessive I’d recommend it if you are interested, her stuff tends to hit the sweet spot of crowd pleaser but not boring.

    • I love the Margot Elena Box! Unfortunately, they are no longer doing the annual, the winter box sold out before I could get it, and now my budget is too tight to get it for a while.
Her box is always great to split out a few gifts, as well, because she packs the boxes with so many items.

  26. CauseBox ships to Canada

  27. I love Causebox. The others look fun, but none tempt me to switch! Really quality items I use. And I like to think it is doing some good and not just pure self indulgence!

  28. I’m a subscription box junkie I suppose. I currently subscribe to fabfitfun, causebox, coastal, Ipsy, Birchbox and Sephora…I tried Stitchfix but nothing worked for me….I LOVE THEM ALL……But if I had to choose just one I’d have to go with’s just my personal fave 🥰

  30. I love Boxycharm, but Beautyfix looks really tempting too!

  31. Ipsy!!! Love it also fabfitfun!

  32. The only one I get is IPSY and I love it. I have been wanting a FFF for so long!

    • I just canceled my FFF. I just didn’t think it was worth the price honestly. I’ve gotten three boxes from them and only really used a handful of things.
