The 22 Best Monthly Subscription Boxes for Women in 2023 – Readers’ Choice Awards

Looking for the best subscription boxes for women? We know how fun it is to get new, fascinating products on your doorstep–and we want to help you find the perfect subscription for you or a loved one. It’s not always easy to find the best subscription box because of all the options out there, but thousands of MSA readers have shared their picks with us–and now we’re sharing them with you.

The right subscription box gives us a thrill when we find something we didn’t know we needed; it’s a gift that we can keep looking forward to. But there are so many subscriptions out there, from clothing and beauty products to books and puzzle-solving, it’s hard to find the right box. So we’re sharing the very best of the subscription boxes we and our readers have found.

Every year, we ask our readers to share their top recommended subscriptions of all types. Then we ask our experts to share what they know about each subscription to make it easy for you to know which subscription is right for you. Below, you’ll find our insights for shopping for women’s subscription boxes and see readers’ top choices for books, makeup, clothing, lifestyle products, and much more.

Top Subscription Boxes Featured In This List:

And more! Keep reading to see the full details of the top subscriptions plus many more recommendations.

What To Look For When Shopping for Women’s Subscriptions

So what’s in a “women’s subscription box"? We’ve seen that it can be almost anything! While some subscriptions still offer gender-specific products, just about everyone can enjoy many of the boxes on this list. Still, many of our readers want us to highlight subscriptions that are most directly targeted to certain groups. Plus, when you’re looking for a gift, it’s much easier to browse a shortlist of subscription boxes for women than digging through the hundreds of subscription services in our brand directory.

We’ve got a few basic tips for choosing a subscription that works for you (or for a loved one, colleague, or anyone else):

  • Look for Subscriptions That Match Your Personal Criteria. Consider how frequently you’d like the box to arrive and what price range is acceptable to you. Examine past box offerings so you know if the box will suit you or a loved one.
  • Look for the Basic Details About a Subscription. In our experience, for instance, some subscription boxes deliver quarterly, while some deliver a box every month. We also know some can be customized, while others are fully curated by the company–so make sure you know exactly what you’re signing up for. We have made that easier by providing a straightforward description of each subscription on this list.
  • Look for subscriptions that will give you excellent customer service. No subscription box for women has perfect five-star ratings, and accidents and mistakes can happen. But when you need to return something or there are delivery delays, you need to know your options beforehand. On our annual best-of lists, we try to avoid including subscriptions with poor customer service reputations, although there are times that the quality of service changes.
  • Look for multiple options to explore. Be willing to experiment. Whether you’re buying for yourself or someone else, there’s no reason to tie yourself to one type of subscription. Try out a few! You’ll be able to take advantage of discounts for new subscriptions — and you’ll get a better sense of exactly what you (or your loved one) enjoy.

With that in mind, let’s get started! Our readers came through with plenty of suggestions for the best subscription boxes for women, and we’ve done the legwork to provide you with an accurate overview of how each subscription works.

The Most Popular Women’s Subscription Boxes

Keep reading to discover our reader’s recommendations for the best subscription boxes for women currently out there. If you think we’ve missed anything, drop us a comment. If you’ve tried one of these subscriptions, be sure to leave a quick review-even if you had a poor experience. Your first-hand review can help other readers avoid subscription remorse.

19. Thrive Market

The Best Subscription Box for Groceries, Beauty, and More

Image via Thrive Market.

What’s In This Women’s Subscription Box

But if you’ve got a lady in your life who is always looking for the healthiest foods and snacks, this is the box for you. For a low monthly fee, you’ll also get access to groceries, personal care products, cleaning supplies, and much more.

We’re pretty psyched that almost everything in Thrive Market is organic, non-GMO, and sustainable. It’s also remarkably affordable, which can be hard to find when you’re trying to save money buying organic foods. The company’s unique subscription model helps you upgrade your pantry without sacrificing your budget. On average, Thrive Market charges 25% less than retail, and if you order regularly, the savings really stack up over time.

Yes! You choose everything you receive (apart from the occasional thank-you gift, which is included at no cost).

Pros

  • You can order organic foods, high-quality skincare products, and much more at discounted prices
  • Low monthly fee — and even less expensive if you sign up for a full year
  • You can browse a wide selection of products on an easy-to-use website

Cons

  • You’ll need to order regularly to justify the cost of the subscription, but they do say they’ll reward you in “Thrive Cash” if you don’t make back your annual membership fee in savings.
  • Not great for ordering fresh produce or other items that aren’t shelf-stable

What Our Reviewers Say:

“The items are all of the best quality, and I can tell you from experience- the Thrive Market customer service team is top notch. 20. Trunk Club

The Best High Fashion Subscription Box for Women

Trunk Club June 2019 - Box Inside

Image from our review.

In late May 2022, Nordstrom announced that Trunk Club would be shutting down (see our article here).

What’s In This Women’s Subscription Box

Trunk Club was Nordstrom’s styling service. Subscribers received high-end clothes, hand-picked by an expert stylist, with no major commitment.

This was one of the first personal stylist subscription boxes to really gain momentum, and Trunk Club maintained a simple approach. You’d take a quick introductory survey, at which point you’d be assigned a stylist. Trunk Club shipped an assortment of clothes, accessories, and shoes from well-known brands; you could try everything on in the comfort of your own home, then send back anything you don’t want.

Unlike many clothing subscription boxes for women, Nordstrom didn’t require a monthly commitment — you’d pay a flat fee of $25, which applies to anything you decided to purchase. The stylists took your budget into account when selecting your items.

Trunk Club also offered a few cool perks: Use a Nordstrom credit or debit card, and they’d waive the styling fee and price-match your order. All members could preview or edit their boxes at any time. It was a great way to experiment with your look without overpaying.

Is This Subscription Box Customizable?

Yes! Subscribers can edit the items in each box before it ships.

Pros

  • You get an online personal stylist subscription for exploring high-end brands
  • Your styling fee is waived if you have a Nordstrom card
  • Fee can be applied toward anything you purchase

Cons

  • Even with discounts, Nordstrom’s clothes are high-end — and expensive
  • Not strictly a subscription, since you’ll order “trunks" when you want them

What Readers Said:

"It's changed the way I dress. I am wearing things I would never have picked out on my own! It's an easy and stress free shopping experience." - Lily

"Trunk Club brings you a personal shopper and brands I can't get around here." - Brumster

"I love all of my wine and chill outfits and my office wear that always make me feel like a boss!!!" - Ms Venee

What Our Reviewers Said:

My initial Nordstrom Trunk Club experience was mostly positive and I can completely understand how this service would be appealing to many – especially right now when it's difficult to not only get to stores but try things on – it seems most fitting rooms are closed these days.-Julie O.

21. Alltrue

The Former Best Quarterly Subscription Box for Women

Image from our review.

What’s In This Women’s Subscription Box

As of April 2022, Alltrue (formerly CAUSEBOX) has shut its doors. While the website remains active, it’s impossible to sign up for a new subscription. Forbes Magazine reported on April 26 that the company was in the process of an Assignment for the Benefit of Creditor, which is an alternative to bankruptcy.

In its heyday, the Alltrue Box was a delight due to its unbeatable combo of lifestyle products and feel-good mission. This quarterly box featured artist designs on the actual box and about $200+ worth of conscious and ethically-designed items on the inside–and they were often exclusive. Alltrue wanted  subscribers to discover the best socially-conscious items that will make you “look good, feel good, and do good.”

Subscribers received products like cosmetics, home decor, gifts, accessories, jewelry, and more, all guaranteed to come from socially-conscious companies that are giving back and doing more. Alltrue also had a members-only market, with even deeper discounts on individual items. At its best, Alltrue was a box with a heart that wanted you to feel good about what you bought.

Is This Subscription Box Customizable?

Annual Alltrue subscribers (those that prepay for an entire year) could customize some of the items each season, choosing colorways for some items in the box and making other product selections.

Pros

  • Socially conscious, sustainable lifestyle products, delivered to your door
  • Access to Alltrue’s seasonal pop-up markets which feature product discounts
  • Customizing some of the items in each delivery

Cons

  • Overall product quality is high but varies from order to order
  • Expensive compared to some other subscriptions, but shopping discounts help to justify the cost
  • Subscribers described delayed shipping issues and poor customer service in the weeks leading to the shutdown of this box.

What Readers Say:

“Great quality items along with a feel good factor. Causebox really delivers." - Elaine Kaiser

"Every single product in the box is usable! High quality items that give back - win win all around!" - Meaghan A.

"CauseBox has the best products that are both unique, useful and great to regift if I can't use it but more importantly, CauseBox supports amazing causes and helps women across the globe. I feel good supporting this subscription box and I've discovered incredible products." - Kelly T.

What Our Reviewers Say:

“This season's Alltrue did feel very "fall"! I liked the mix of all sorts of items (beauty, home, fashion). I also think this was a pretty good value for $55 and even the items that might not fit into your home or closet will make great gifts.” -Megan K.

Shipping:

Shipping was free to the contiguous U.S. and $7.95 to Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories, and Canada.

How to Get The Most Out of Your Subscription Box for Women Once You’ve Picked

So you’ve picked a box–great! Now what? We recommend taking these steps to make sure you’re getting the most from your new subscription.

  1. Take advantage of coupons and discounts when signing up. Many subscription boxes for women (and for men, and for children, for that matter) offer coupons, promos, and other discounts to first-time subscribers. We’ve provided discounts and promotional links where possible to help you score a great deal. Our MSA Deals Page is a great resource if you’re trying to save when you sign up.
  2. Understand all of the perks of your subscription. Several subscriptions on this list offer discounts, add-ons, and other bonuses for members, so explore all the possibilities and take advantage of your new membership. Our reviews can be a great way to learn more about the specifics of each subscription box.
  3. Read the terms and conditions. We hope you never have a problem with your delivery or your subscription, but that sometimes happens. Read the details about how to return or exchange products and make sure you know how to contact the brand when there is a problem.
  4. Consider another one! Once you’ve enjoyed a few boxes from your new subscription, start looking for others that you may enjoy.

Factors We Considered When Reviewing These Subscription Boxes for Women

This list features top choices from our fellow subscription fanatics, and we confidently recommend these subscription boxes because we have researched and reviewed every one of them. Factors we considered when reviewing these subscriptions include:

  • Pricing - We always look for subscriptions that provide a decent value compared to retail prices. However, recognize that calculating the overall value of a subscription can be difficult, especially when comparing boxes that offer completely different types of products.
  • Customizability - We love receiving any surprises in the mail! But if a box offers some degree of customization, we love it that much more! On the list above, we noted whether each subscription allows subscribers to choose products.
  • Variety - You’ll find everything from book clubs to online personal stylists in our list of the best subscription boxes for women. We wanted to give you a variety of options to help find services that truly work for you and your lifestyle.
  • Customer Service - We read through user reviews to highlight brands that have exceptional customer service reputations. If a subscription box has a history of bad behavior towards subscribers, it won’t make our list. However, there are sometimes issues that change the quality of a subscription box and we try to note that too.

Im so done with Boxy unless under Ipsy they straighten up… For so long Ive noticed items bought during their Flash Sales/Mega Sales/Add Ons etc.. are VERY different to the same product if bought from the store, the consistency is completely different, the colors are muted or COMPLETELY different, several times a product with Vit. C is ALREADY turning yellow… if it was a tool/device, it was some knockoff either with no directions, or poorly translated ones with so many spelling and grammatical errors, you cant make sense of it…

I think they either buy up old stock that isnt selling, or counterfit for the Sales, might be ok for powder makeup, but NOT skincare,

Listing JourneeBox as the “most eco-friendly” is laughable. There are far better sustainably-minded boxes out there (where they don’t just mass manufacture everything in China) and JBs shipping and customer service is downright horrible. Check out: Earthlove, GreenUP, Bold Box, Sam and Lance, Let’s Go Eco gor better options. If you care about the environment at all, you’d choose a box that is serious about environmental stewardship.

Very surprised at this list, I don’t remember voting in a “best box for Rachel Zoe fans” category?
How can alltrue be “best quarterly” box when they don’t let the quarterly subscribers choose any of their categories?not to mention the many negative reader reviews. And Birchbox as best beauty? Since when?
I feel this list is just a giant ad under the guise of a “best of”. I will no longer waste my time participating in any more MSA reader surveys.

Didn’t give a whole lot of credit to this list because they put FabFitFun as #1. I’m about to cancel my subscription before it renews because they have the worst customer service of any company I’ve ever worked with (I’ll be 49 in 2 days, so I’ve worked with A LOT). They claim to have great prices, but I can find all the stuff online individually for similar prices and not have to deal with the company. I love my IPSY. I’m looking for something similar to FabFitFun or Pusheen, not another makeup.

I have had several of these boxes. My favorite is Boxycharm. I get the base and premium monthly. 90 percent of the time I love everything. I have also found many many brands and products that have become a favorite and something I use daily. The pop ups 3 times a yr and the monthly add on is another thing I love. The priced for products I’ve fallen in love with are usually 75% to 90% off. I have the ipsy glam bag too. I actually started my subscription box addiction with the Ipsy glam bag 12$ a month now and FFF. I have received a feeling glam bag plus and glam bag plusX I am going to be canceling my ipsy. Boxycharm is 25 a month for Base 35 a month premium and 4 times a year the base is added to and becomes the Luxe and its about 50$ I believe. Once again so worth it. You can chose 1 choice with the base box or to 2 with premium and I honestly can’t remember if luxe is 2 or 3 choices. You can also change what products you want more or less of. Ect. I’ve had the birch box and the glossy box too. I didn’t care for either one. The babe box is decent for the price. Honestly ad of late I like it more than Ipsy. But since there are 2 or 3 new ones on this list I’d like to try I’m going to cancel ipsy and babe for the time being. I’ll probably continue to be part of the Boxycharm ” family ” as long as I can

I’ve subscribed to all the above and have canceled them all except for the Kevia Journee Box. I’m so sick of getting water bottles, coffee cups, useless books, blank journals and non full size beauty items that I canceled them all due to lack of excitement and declining values.

The Kevia boxes are fabulous! Unique items from all over the world. Gorgeous jewelry and no repeat items.

I do love Bombay & Cedar, but have noticed since covid the items have become boring and similar each month. The values of the items seem very inflated too. It makes me sad to have had to cancel that one.

Thank you for this info. I also subscribe to a good portion above. My worse being Boxycharm. I received in November a box with every item in it was a face mist. Contacted the company and got my robotic scripted response. I feel with them i get all the left overs and i have both premium and the Luxe box. I might just cancel them and give Kevia Journee a try. Again thank you

After being a subscriber to causebox for over two years, I just cancelled. They have started repeating items that were literally just in boxes two boxes ago. They sent me defective market add on items and refuse to refund me or replace them. Their customer service has really gone downhill very quickly. I used to really love the items, but they are all pretty lackluster. Add in all of the skin care items that people requested not to have and I’m done. I’m glad I enjoyed it while I did, but I no longer recommend the box.

I recently got my first StitchFix and I was so impressed with my stylist. Literally all five items were something that I would have picked for myself. I would have kept all five, but two of the items were almost exactly like garments that I already own–my stylist was that good lol. I got a couple of referrals, so I bought some jeans from the shop. Everything fits so well. I’m looking forward to getting another box for spring.

I only agree with Ipsy and Boxycharm. Why isn’t their any reviews for Lashybox? I get the new magnetic subscription and I love it. This is my second month. Also earfleek is a low cost subscription and it’s fun. Alot of this boxes cost to much. I get Fabfitfun and am not renewing its misleading they say thier products in the box have a higher value then they really do. Example headbands, hair scruchies, coasters that have values of 50 dollars or greater. Alot of subscription boxes do this but FFF really inflates it. You do get the value of the box.

I have been receiving the Ipsy Glam Plus bag for just over a year now. I was delighted during the first few months of my subscription; I received many new and exciting products that I couldn’t wait to try. One of my favorite parts about the box was getting a cute new makeup bag every month because I use them all the time. But after a while, I noticed I was receiving the same types of products every month. I went to my profile to set new preferences for what I’d like to receive in my box, but the types of products failed to differ from what I was previously receiving. I highly recommend this box if you’re looking to add to your makeup collection for cheap. I do not recommend this box for anyone looking to subscribe for longer than 6-8 months.

Had Ipsy for about 6 months got tired of getting a lot of the same face cleansers that i put i don’t care for the make up was pretty good only a few things that were meh. cancelled that and tried FFF. I Love it i have received 3 boxes so far and am very happy with them, there are a couple if items i would not use but I gifted them to friends and family who did so win win in my opinion. I also like that is a variety of stuff not just makeup and face stuff. The only draw back for me is i am impatient to get the box! 🙂 Thinking about trying cause box or single swag but can’t decide which one..

Cheryl !

I will NOT miss Popsugar.. I canceled when they raised their prices and I started to pay nearly double.. However, when they announced the last box, I ordered it when they had a coupon for sentimental reasons.. They billed me and NEVER sent my box.. I contacted every email address I could and no one ever cared to respond.. It was too late to get my money box because I waited so long giving them a chance to make it right.. TERRIBLE business practices.. I really want my money back or the box I paid for. grrrr!!

I have the same problem with Ipsy sending me the same things over and over again. I get the Glam Bag and Glam Bag Plus and have been getting the small one 3yrs and the bigger one since it first came out about 11/2 yrs. I’m not sure why we even fill out profile for likes and dislikes or answer the reviews because I’ve gotten a black liquid eyeliner in BOTH bags at the same time more than once and black liquid eyeliner in at least one of them for 6months straight. I feel like this is robbing me of spot could be getting a new product. Who in the world needs or could use the 15 eyeliners I’ve gotten now?! And I sent a message to Ipsy about it to get the response of they don’t see my profile in their records or know who I am… Really??? They’ve known who I was at billing time for 3yrs now!! It’s so dang frustrating that I just cancelled my small Ipsy and will see if the Plus continues to act up. They need a better system or at least apply the system they say they have. The repeats in my are just beyond ridiculous. Just wanted to share that with you. Thank you. 😊

This is my same complaint with Ipsy.
And when if you email support, you get the same copy and paste answer.
Done with them…….Not to mention when I purchase something addition like a beautiful palette and it comes broken they do not do anything to correct it.

At least you got your bag :-/
I have been arguing with Ipsy for 2 months and they finally agreed to send me a replacement bag for the November bag they never shipped me. And they still havent shipped that one! I paid for add ons as well. They have HORRIBLE customer service. They pretty much stole my money at this point. I cancelled my subscription with Ipsy. Im wayyy over them. Hello Boxycharm!!

I found Tribe Beauty back In 2017 & never looked back! My tribe’s customer service is phenomenal!! I sub to 3 boxes but have dabbled in most beauty boxes. Ipsy Glam Bag-Love their add-on option yet this raises the cost per month significantly. Not worth the sub-par experience with the curation/customer service. Plus the bag quality has gone downhill. The other one box is Allure. At their new price point the quality/value of each item is extremely high end. However you get a lot of skin care and serums. Which some love (I do at nearly 40.) It all depends what you prefer. With Tribe Beauty you get a full-size immersive whole “face in a box” of high value items and usually one body care item. No fillers or junk. You have access to the website to buy full-size products at a wholesale price pt. There are flash sales and add-ons. There are mini fridges!! Plus you can customize one item each month. Tribe Beauty has won several awards hails from Canada yet ships worldwide. I have zero complaints after 3 years. The Company itself sets high standards for customer service, quality and transparency supporting women owned companies, small business, BLM & encouraging entrepreneurs to dream big!
