The Wines

I don't know about you, but I find nothing more relaxing after a hard day's work than soaking in a hot bubble bath with a sprinkle of Epson salts and a glass of wine. That being said, between my work schedule, being a mom, and just everyday life, I barely have time to sit down for a minute - let alone stop at a liquor store for some wine! This is where the benefits of a Winc subscription comes in.

Not only does this website create a list of wines you might enjoy based on a quick quiz, but the more reviews you submit, the more in tune with your palette this subscription becomes. Giving you the choice of choosing your own wines after reading the detailed descriptions, or creating a box just for you, the possibilities are nearly endless, and you are sure to enjoy your selections. Not only do you receive your bottles of wine, but you also will receive pairing options, recipes, and nutritional information. Is that the sound of angels singing? I think so!

2020 Château Beaubois Cuvèe Expression White Blend - $20.99 (Member Price $18.99)

  • Body: medium
  • Sweetness: dry
  • Alcohol: 13%

The Expression White is a blend of Roussanne, Grenache, Viognier, and Rolle that shows notes of citrus, zest, tropical fruits, and white flowers balanced by a dry finish that brings a zing of minerality. This wine pairs perfectly with light dishes that also pack a punch – try it with salt-and-pepper shrimp, spicy tuna rolls, or yellow coconut curry.

Bright, tart, and crisp are three words that come to mind in the first sip of this lovely white wine. Pairing well with our chicken and rice dinner, my husband and I throughly enjoyed this bottle, and found the aftertaste simple and pleasant. Perfect for wine newbies, this is a great bridge from super sweet wines into the world of dry whites. I highly suggest it!

2020 Pizzolato Sparkling Rosé - $18.99 (Member Price $16.99)

  • Body: light
  • Sweetness: dry
  • Alcohol: 11%

A sophisticated take on rosé Prosecco, the Pizzolato is temptingly refreshing. In a season filled with rich foods and full-boded wines, the Pizzolato Prosecco rosé is a cheerful counterbalance. Delicate, light, and fruity, this is the perfect tipple for when you’d like to feel a little lighter. It’s also made with organic grapes and is vegan-friendly, making it ideal to share with all your loved ones. A blend of Glera (the Prosecco grape) and Pinot Noir yields fresh notes of citrus, red berry, and sweet-tart candy. This buoyant bubbly is great as an aperitif or with light appetizers.

I love, love, love sparkling wine and this light and fruity rosé is definitely one of my faves. Bubbly and fun, this paired perfectly with my hot bath self-care evening. While I typically associate sparkling wines with celebrations and holidays, I have recently discovered they can be extremely valuable as a romantic little gesture on a Friday night after the kids go to bed, and plan on making this choice again.

2020 Pacificana® Rosé - $15.99 (Member Price $13.99)

  • Body: light
  • Sweetness: dry
  • Alcohol: 11%

A balanced, dry rosé that’s ready for all your warm-weather adventures. The true height of summer calls for all the rosé you can drink. But a particularly hot day calls for the most refreshing wine you can find. Enter the Pacificana® Rosé. This vintage shows a lighter touch, with plenty of berry and citrus fruit on the nose paired with a bright, dry palate. Easily quaffable, but with flavor that packs a punch, you’ll find Pacificana® is an ideal match for any number of occasions. A happy planet produces great wine. That's why we teamed up with 1% for the Planet — an international organization that supports a network of eco-conscious businesses committed to donating one percent of their sales toward environmental causes. As a member, 1% of all our Pacificana® sales go toward benefiting and preserving the environment.

Light and citrusy, this dry rosé mentions it is perfect for warm-weather adventures, but I found it to be just as tasty during our blustery fall temps as well. Pretty in pink, I really picked up on the berry notes and found it perfectly light and tantalizing on the tongue.

2018 Tarantas Crianza Tempranillo - $14.99 (Member Price $12.99)

  • Body: full
  • Sweetness: dry
  • Alcohol: 13.5%

The Tarantas is a robust, easy-drinking red that showcases Spain’s signature grape. Tempranillo is at the heart and soul of Spain’s winemaking identity. Though many other grapes are grown throughout the country, Tempranillo is considered the nation’s “noble grape,” and with a history that stretches back over two thousand years, it’s easy to see why. Tarantas is a wine that celebrates this supremely Spanish variety. Grapes are organically grown on the hills overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in Valencia and undergo a strict selection at harvest. As a crianza, it spends at least six months in American oak, which imparts its telltale vanilla hints to the wine. In addition, you’ll find bold dark fruit and spice notes with full body and silky tannins. Given its roots, this is a home run with Spanish tapas, but will also pair well with savory dishes like goulash, blue cheese burgers, or cured meats.

As I have mentioned before, red wine isn't my favorite, but I do like to change it up now and again. Being beautifully packaged, this bottle truly encapsulated Halloween with the shiny red logo. Deep, dry, and voluptuous in flavor, this is definitely a sipper, but is really tasty.

Verdict

Because life is so busy at the moment, my self-care routine has been upended and I am starting to the feel the effects. After recently attending an educator-based conference, I came back energized and enlightened with a new appreciation for the importance of self-care. Prioritizing that ensures our "buckets" of hope to be filled in order to share with others, rather than running on empty. Subscribing to Winc helps me prioritize an impromptu date night with my husband, adds a bit of calm to my Friday night bath sesh, and has me throwing more dinner parties so I can share the deliciousness. I love choosing my own wines, especially from the comfort of my living room, and was pleasantly surprised with the selection of sparkling and rose options this month. I can't wait to see what they have in store for November. Which bottles were your favorite?

To Wrap Up

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Since Winc allows you to choose your wine, you can get any combination you’d like any month. Sign up today and curate your own selection, or let them choose a few bottles for you.

Value Breakdown: This box costs around $65.00, which breaks down to a per-bottle cost of $16.25. This is a decent value given the price I would pay for a bottle of wine like any of these at my local liquor store and the convenience of being able to shop from the couch!
