This is a review of the "Caprese" box.

First Impressions

I love a good Caprese salad and I've considered this box before so when I saw it was back in stock, I figured I'd try it out! When my box arrived it was actually a bit of a mess; the plant food for the basil had spilled and so had the citric acid for my cheese. I reached out to Bespoke Post and I just double-checked my emails: they responded and ordered a new kit for me within 20 minutes of my initial email! I love their amazing customer service!

Mozzarella Cheese Making Set by FarmSteady (similar kit linked)

I have never attempted to make my own cheese before, but now that I have mastered (I use this term loosely!) sourdough bread, I felt like this was the next logical challenge! This kit came with citric acid, cheese salt, rennet, and cheesecloth as well as a thermometer. I was unable to find this exact kit on their website, but similar kits sell for about $30, although these seem to include a few more items so our kit would probably retail for less.

Cherry Tomato Seed Starter Kit by Modern Sprout - Retail Value $10.99

The next component is our cherry tomatoes. This kit comes with the grow pot, seeds, and soil needed to get started on our tomato plant. Once we get it going indoors, it should be easy enough to transplant into the ground outdoors!

Basil Grow Kit by Modern Sprout - Retail Value $27

I love this smoked glass container that our basil will hopefully grow in! This kit contains everything you need to get started! You simply thread the thick wick through the basket and then fill your glass with water so that the wick is touching it. Then you add your grow medium, seeds, and some charcoal on top of it to get your sprouts going.

It's such a nice design, and if my window and sill were clean, we might be able to appreciate it a bit more. Now we wait for the sprouts! I can't wait to have fresh basil to use whenever I need it!

Garlic Basil Sea Salt by Gustus Vitae, 2.5 oz - Retail Value $6.99

The last item is just a fun enhancement! I've tried sugars from this brand (so good!) so I was excited to try their salt! This one is a garlic basil sea salt and it has such a great flavor with the perfect balance of each ingredient! It's actually pretty robust, but not overpowering and I can't wait to try it with Caprese or even just sprinkle it over the next loaf of bread I bake. The best part about this fun little tin of salt is that it has a magnetic base so I can stick it on the side of the fridge to store it! Just don't forget to close up the lid!

Value - Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $56.89

Value Breakdown:  The total retail value of the basil, tomato plant, and garlic salts comes to $44.98. Since that doesn't include the cheese-making kit, I think that's probably a fair value. This would definitely make a cute gift basket for someone and a few extra items could definitely make it feel more personal!

Key Takeaways

While I won't be able to reap the benefits of this box for quite some time, I love that eventually, I will have all of the fresh ingredients necessary to make a tasty Caprese! I also can't wait to try my hand at cheese-making now that I have everything I need. In the meantime, I will certainly find some creative ways to use that garlic basil salt because it is delicious!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Great review Brandi! Any chance you can do a part 2 after everything grows?
