The 16 Best Art & Craft Subscription Boxes for Kids

Monthly arts and crafts kits for kids are an excellent way to pass the time — but that’s only the most obvious benefit. A well-designed subscription can help children learn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) basics, nurture their artistic skills, or simply cut down on screen time. Craft kits also give them something to look forward to each month, and provide parents with plenty of opportunities for quality bonding time.

With a bit of help from our readers, we’ve found some of the best monthly craft kits for kids of all ages. We’ll dig into the details to explain the advantages of each option (and we’ve managed to include a few money-saving coupons and promo links too). Read on for our top picks for this year.

The Cost: $19.95 per month + free shipping. Sign up here!

ACTIVE DEAL: Save 50% off your first box. No coupon needed - just use this link.

Age Range: 9 to 16+

What's Inside: KiwiCo offers a variety of monthly craft subscriptions for kids of all ages (and a few great kits for adults). They’ve built a strong reputation for pairing high-quality crafting supplies with simple, straightforward instructions — and if you have trouble with a certain step, you can head online for easy-to-follow tutorial videos.

Doodle Crate is designed to challenge your kiddo with a series of artistic projects. Each introduces techniques and materials, so children learn something new with each crate. Previous boxes have taught kids how to carve rubber stamps, weave small baskets, and craft embossed paper lanterns.

Like many of the art subscription boxes on this list, KiwiCo sells individual crates. That’s a great way to decide whether a long-term subscription will work for your family.

Single Boxes: Visit the KiwiCo store to find single Doodle Crates and other single art kits for a range of prices starting at $17.95 + $4.95 shipping.

Check out our Doodle Crate details and reviews  for more info! Ships to the US for free with a subscription, Canada for $3.95 per month, and worldwide from $4.95-$6.95.

Expect crayons, paper crafts, stickers, googly eyes — all of the classics you remember from your childhood!

We love We Craft Box’s fun imagery. Boxes might include everything from frog masks and polar bears to spaceships, so kids will find something to love in each delivery.

You’ll receive a 20+ page lab notebook, which provides instructions (along with some space for jotting down theories and conclusions). This monthly craft kit also gives kids everything they need to handle the entire project — you won’t need to run around looking for popsicle sticks or pipe cleaners, though you will need scissors and a few other common tools.

Kids love problem solving, and Groovy Lab in a Box presents plenty of fun, interesting problems to help children develop their skills. With each new kit, your little engineer will get a little more creative, and that’s why we love Groovy Lab in a Box’s approach.

Image from our review.

The Cost: $29.95 per month for single subscriptions, $49.95 per month for sibling subscriptions. Save with longer commitments. Sign up here!

Age Range: 2 to 10+ years. Choose from the Junior Discovery Box (for kids ages 2-4) or the Discovery Box (for kids ages 5-10+). The Sibling Discovery Box (for kids ages 2-10+) sends two of each project, costing $49.95 per month.

Projects will teach kids about animals, the solar system, chemistry, and much more (and they’ll cut down on screen time in the process).

Created by environmental scientist Penny Bauder, Green Kid Crafts is hand-packed in San Diego. This should go without saying, but the company is a green and sustainable business — they plant one tree for every online order.

Good to know: This subscription partners with One Tree Planted to see that one tree is planted for every order placed!

Check out our Green Kid Crafts details and reviews to learn more. Ships to the US for free, to Canada and select countries for $6.50.

9. Paletteful Packs Young Artist Box - Themed Kit of Art Supplies

The Cost: $31.95 per month. Save with longer subscriptions. Sign up here!

ACTIVE DEAL: Save 10% off your first box!

Age Range: 8 years and up

What's Inside: Great art supplies aren’t cheap, but Paletteful Packs offers affordable access to paints, pens, sketch pads, and everything in between.

The service offers 3 tiers to allow artists to upgrade as they develop their skills. The Young Artist box includes 4 or more high-quality art supplies, and it’s a great place to start. We love the high quality of the supplies — adult artists would have no problem using these tools to make masterpieces. The kid-friendly boxes follow themes that provide inspiration. For example, one previous box included materials for drawing comics, complete with a drafting pencil, kneaded eraser, sketch pad, drawing pens, and a stencil kit.

The Young Artist box costs $28.50 per month, while the Petite Box contains a smaller selection of products for $22.50. When artists are ready for a challenge (or when parents want to skip those frequent trips to the hobby store), the Premier box contains an incredible variety of pro-level supplies for $33.50.

Paletteful Packs has an active YouTube channel with instructions for using their supplies. Each box also has a digital page with prompts, tips, techniques, and more. With that said, this monthly craft kit is designed to let artists roam free — while this is a fantastic option for letting kids explore their artistic side, it doesn’t guide them through specific projects.

Check out our Paletteful Packs Premier Pack details and reviews to learn more. Ships to the US for free, Canada for $10, and internationally for $15.

Every kid is welcome to enjoy this awesome box, but it’s specifically catered to kids with autism and sensry needs. Many of the toys are time-tested therapist favorites.

You’ll find spinners, plushies, stretchable toys, aromatherapy dough, and various other products that are appropriate for children with neurological differences. Each shipment includes a range of items, so you can learn which types of products keep your kid engaged in playtime.

Hi there, I'm Christen! I've been writing with MSA since 2017. I am all sorts of things: a writer, a mother, an outdoors-lover, a low-maintenance self-carer, and general hungry person.

You'll find me collecting stationery and squirreling away stickers, riding bikes and swimming with my family, creating outfits in earth tones and flowy silhouettes that make me feel amazing, wearing big earrings, drinking beer and asking my husband to feed me harmonies to sing, taking my vitamins, living for live music, roping everyone into a craft, being human and vulnerable, and celebrating the phenomenon of being alive.

Would’ve loved to see Outside the Box Creation on this list! It’s been one of my favorite kids’ art boxes and there are usually enough supplies in one box for 3 kids to do the activity, although they have a larger box for larger families.

My granddaughter is turning 4. In your opinion would the projects in the Daddy and Me be age appropriate for her?

Check out Artivity Kids, they have a great monthly subscription art box including tutorials, art history lessons, suggested reading materials, and more. They also blend the tutorials with entertainment for the kids with characters Arty (the paint brush), Palette (the art palette) and Squeaky (the cleanup bottle), mixing the likes of Bob Ross with Mr. Rogers. So FUN!!

How is it at all possible that this list does not include the Mommy And Me Art Box????? It is far superior to some of the boxes on this list!

Another one my son (age 7) and I have been enjoying is Lets Make Art – Kids Edition. It’s pretty new (I think only 3 months old), $35/month, and comes with multiple art projects based around a theme. You can order individual boxes for $45 each or get the subscription for $35 (cancel any time). The instructional videos on their website are fantastic and easily to follow and they include enough supplies that you can try again if you make a mistake or just want to make more of the same!

This is a really great box! Very well curated and the “Zine” (aka magazine) is such high quality with wonderful directions and additional activities beyond the 4 main monthly projects. And I agree with Rose, the videos are great. PS – they have projects for adults too 🙂
