Thank you for being a loyal subscriber! We want to inform you of a change to the Beauty Box, which will take effect on August 1st, 2020. If you live in any of the below states, a sales tax will be added to your $5 seasonal Beauty Box order, based on your state’s current sales tax note.

Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Wyoming.

This new tax on your Beauty Box is due to recent changes in the taxability of online sales.

All the best,
Walmart Beauty Box Team

The fee was taken from my bank but I didn’t get a beauty box this Fall

I got the email from them in late spring about their revamping and not sending out summer boxes, but that is all I ever heard from them and never received a Fall box. They sent me an email today about a box that I could *purchase* for $10, but somehow they have forgotten me and my subscription. Weird. The boxes were always late anyway, but they act as though I never signed up. I should probably check my credit card statement and make sure they’re not taking $5 every month since the last box in Spring.

I’ve been a subscriber to Walmart Beauty box for several years. I haven’t received a box since Fall 2019, and when I try to access the site from the link here, it gives me the message 403 FORBIDDEN. I type in the website address to sign into my account and it tells me my recaptcha reputation is too low. What the heck does that mean?

One last thing about the sales tax lol. Only Having to pay 6% tax rate makes me feel lucky. Because, I only live 30 mins outside Washington DC and most places in and around major cities have higher tax rates then that.

Lauren

I live in Maryland everything is 6% tax. And, we are taxed on clothes and groceries. However, every year during back to school. Maryland offers one week tax free on clothes. I was floored last summer when I went to LOS Angeles, CA 9.5% tax rate sometimes 10%. It made me appreciate I only pay 6%. Growing up before Maryland started offering the one week tax free on clothes. My parents would always take me shopping in DE outlets for back to school clothes.

Kathy

Hey that’s really cool that Maryland does that! In Seattle the tax is about 10% and it sorta sucks especially when you’re making bigger purchases! It’d be nice if they could implement that here tax-free week here lol

I like the Walmart box, it is one of the boxes, that if I love something, I can actually purchase it instantly, and it is affordable. If you love something that is cheap in my opinion that is a win!

This is absurd. The number of times I’ve read over and over about how this box is free and the fee is for shipping is too numerous to even guesstimate. So now they’re taxing my “free” box by taxing the shipping, which isn’t taxed in the state I’m in. Oh, Wally World, you need to do better than this.

Reply ButtonReply

Rose LaRouge

Exactly! Shipping doesn’t get taxed.

Reply ButtonReply

Erica

Exactly what I was thinking.

Is anyone else having trouble registering? It didn’t work, but wouldn’t say why. It just said try again later.

Reply ButtonReply

Ana

I cannot access to walmart beauty box web page and I need change my credit card. It just said error

Reply ButtonReply

GORDANA

I have the same problem. Conacted the customer service and they can’t help me. I tried logging in from various devices and browsers. Nothing. The same 403 forbidden error showing up

shakingmyhead

I was able to register and it looks like they are going to send me the spring 2020 box. 🙂

Sherri

Not with trying to register, but I did have some issues logging in and trying to change the credit card I had on file with them, so I think they may be having some website issues.

I had site issues, too. It’s been awhile and I decided to re-sub. You have to be logged in, which is fine, but when I used my existing Walmart credentials, the payment info was pre-filled with an old card. (Possibly of note: that card has long been deleted from my “regular” Walmart.com account.)
I edited the card info but nothing happened when I tapped the buy button, it just wouldn’t work. I tried adding to cart and buying through the main site and then the app but neither worked. Thought it could be a browser problem, but by the 4th browser test, I was ready to give in and switch to my laptop. Then I realized I had spent *way* too much time trying to order this stupid box! It had become about beating the website. I pondered defeat.

Suddenly a light bulb went on: use an alternate email, make a new account. When I tapped the buy button, it finally worked! Victory, LOL!

P.S. I’m in PA but I was charged only $5.

P.P.S. Making short stories long is why I’m more of a lurker here 🙂

Dawn

My box was $5.00. Not sure how yours was free?? States mandate the sales tax requirement. Be happy you don’t live in Pennsylvania. We pay sales tax on everything but clothing and grocery store food.

Reply ButtonReply

Adeline

Texas charges taxes on everything, even food from the grocery store and almost 9% at that.

Reply ButtonReply

shakingmyhead

Texas doesn’t have a state tax at least!

Cc

Texas doesn’t charge tax on all groceries—I think it’s just the more “junky” food like all the Oreos and ice cream I buy. But meat and produce aren’t charged tax.

Sherri

Be glad you live in Pennsylvania. I grew up there, and now live in another state where everything is taxed, including clothing and grocery store food, so I pay much higher sales tax than I ever did when I lived in Pennsylvania.

Reply ButtonReply

Jenn

I live in Arizona and we pay tax on everything except groceries. Some cities here even have an added city sales tax. Im from Philly and remember going to Delaware for big purchases, like furniture or computers and what not, because it was tax free.

Reply ButtonReply

Rachel

Dawn, actually be happy you live in Pennsylvania, the majority of US states pay sales tax on clothing….. I used to drive to Pennsylvania sometimes just to shop the outlets tax free.

Reply ButtonReply

Kay

In Arkansas we pay 10-11% tax on most things. Tax on groceries is around 4% in my city.

Errmmm

@haylee: But there’s no state income tax! As a resident of California, that is beyond mind-blowing.

Alice

Mississippi taxes everything, too. 7 percent adds up on groceries.

Haylee

Tennessee has sales tax on everything, lol.

MrsLittle

The box was free, shipping was $5

Reply ButtonReply

carol

Wasn’t the box free, and the charge was for shipping?

Reply ButtonReply

dia

Many states require tax be charged to shipping if it is assessed as a separate line item (which is the case here, since it’s the only line item).

Reply ButtonReply

Mimosa

Ooh, this comments thread is getting pretty saucy ….

WiWah

Five states (Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon) do not charge any sales tax, so shipping and handling will likewise not be taxable. The following states do charge tax on shipping: Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin. That’s all I know from a brief search.

Mik

Carol! You are so right! Walmart will need to stop announcing this box as free, then. You are so on point. You do not tax shipping costs.

Reply ButtonReply

Taxes Ugh

States actually can get tax for shipping costs. I started listing my clothing and things I do not want anymore on online selling sites. I would sell things and wonder why are they charging tax on my shipping cost? Come to find out that some states laws say they can legally charge tax on shipping. I bet those states that are now being taxed are states that allow taxes on shipping costs. My state is one of the states that charge tax on shipping and it is listed in the list of states being taxed moving forward for these boxes.

Lauralee

I haven’t purchased one of these in years. Honestly, I forgot Walmart put a box out. Have the boxes improved in recent years/months?

Marion

It’s quarterly, so it’s only 4x a year (& since they’re skipping summer 2020, it’ll only be 3 boxes this year), so you probably didn’t miss much. Check the MSA reviews to see if you like them.

I just subscribed for these last 2 quarters & have really liked it. The latest box was really good for me. I got a Nyx lip oil (which I almost bought a couple times for more than the cost of this box), a deodorant sample I will use, a travel size toothpaste I will use (I generally just keep one in my travel bag at all times), a toner I won’t use because it’s rose-scented (but I was impressed by the deluxe sample size of it & I have no doubt I’ll be able to give it to someone who’ll love it), & a charcoal toothbrush I won’t use. Oh, and a supplement sample packet.

Reply ButtonReply

RAR24

Yes they have. They’ve been giving out NYX products and I found my some great new makeup removers to try out.

Reply ButtonReply

Aarjullor

They made an announcement last week or so about going on to newer and better things, while ending this beauty box, only to add sales tax? Ok.

Reply ButtonReply

dia

it’s not their choice whether sales tax is assessed. they don’t profit from it.

Reply ButtonReply

Izzie

Never subscribed. Maybe they changed and now it’s 5$(+tax) and shipping is free? No clue. I’m waiting for spoilers 🙂

dia

In 13 states, shipping and handling are taxable.

RAR24

The box was free. How do you charge sales tax on items without a price?

MzBev

That was Target ending for something new. Walmarts notice said they are skipping the Summer box, only. Read the second paragraph above. MSA posted both emails.

“And that’s why we are revamping our Beauty Box to make it an even better experience for you! Since we will be making some changes over the next couple of months, we will not be sending out an official Summer Box.”

Aarjullor

Doh! That’ll teach me to jump the gun. Thank!
