Here are the beauty boxes that rank the highest among real subscribers:

1. Ipsy Glam Bag Plus

Image from our review.

The Cost: $25.00 per month. Subscribe here!

What Our Readers Say:

“Has the most full-size items and most choice for picking in this price range. The algorithm really reads my preferences and feedback.” – Jenn

“The products are top notch and they offer exceptional customization! Each box is well worth the price.” – Ted

“After years of sub addiction, Ipsy Glam Bag Plus is one that I always come back to. The products are great! Even when the products miss the mark for me, the value is always there.” – Rebecca

About the Box: Topping our list of best overall beauty subscriptions this year is Ipsy Glam Bag Plus.

This subscription is an upgrade option from the standard Ipsy Glam Bag (which costs $12/month), and our readers are really amped over it for a few reasons.

First off, every box comes packed with a whopping 5 full-size products that are a mix of skincare and makeup. A recent delivery really wowed us with Kate Somerville Goat Milk Moisturizing Cream, Pixi by Petra Nuance Quartette in Honey Nectar, Complex Culture Good Lighting Highlighter Duo and buttah. Cleanser. This subscription has got you covered from applying your makeup to removing it.

Even better than all those full-size beauty products for just $25 a month? Last year, Ipsy implemented an update that now allows subscribers to choose three of the products they’ll receive in each box (from a monthly rotating assortment of 10). That leaves plenty of room for customization, so you can stock your box with what you’ll know you’ll love. For the rest of the items, your profile preferences are consulted, so you’ll only be sent the creams, lip balms, cheek stains, palettes, and brushes the team at Ipsy knows you’ll enjoy.

Another reason our readers gave this beauty subscription box top honors? The Ipsy Glam Bag Plus always sends new beauty brands mixed in with well-known ones, so there’s a balance of fun familiarity and opportunities to find new faves.

  1. ● IPSY: BUYER BEWARE!!! ●

Im very sad to have to warn you about a box that I’ve loved for so long, but i don’t want to see anyone else be scammed by Ipsy.

Ipsy is a good box, but their customer service is SO bad that I’m a longtime, high-spending customer of theirs that is canceling this month. I am a very patient and understanding person, but what I’ve had to endure recently is really THAT bad, so I have to warn you of their practices. I will keep this very short. If you want to know more, I can share more with you.

    What to expect with Ipsy:

▪︎Broken item? You will NOT get a replacement or any sort of fix to this issue.

▪︎Buy a specifically advertised full-sized item from them & receive a completely random sample-sized item that is NOT what was advertised? You will NOT get a replacement or any sort of fix to this issue.

Unless you don’t mind horrendous customer service, false advertisement, broken products, no help, no replacements, being ignored by customer service, and next getting your issues fixed, and there will be issues, then run far away from Ipsy!

They’ve recently gone downhill FAST. Their boxes & items have improved at the expense of you, the customer, and their customer service will not help you. They may just ignore you altogether. It’s a real roll of the dice, and I refuse to roll them anymore, and you shouldn’t have to either.

As I’ve stated above, I’ve been a big spending subscriber for years, and they’ve changed for the worse. They used to be fine until recently. Now, they’re much different than any other box you’ve ever dealt with. The products may be a little bit better now, but the unprofessionalism & false advertising is NOT worth even a penny of your money!

If something gets broken, lost, etc., then you’re not going to get that fixed. I must stress this once more: I know this to be true, as I WAS a longtime subscriber, and I’m really sad to have to cancel my account. However, I refuse to be scammed a 4th time. I’ve had THREE serious problems with them, all of them since their recent changes, and they just lost a loyal customer because they won’t do anything to correct their mistakes. They won’t even respond to me anymore, and I haven’t been rude pur anything like that, so it’s just bad, guys. Please watch out for them. I’m really sad about it, actually. 🙁

It’s so bad that I may post a video to my YouTube Channel to warn others. Also, I’m not the only person that this is happening to, as I’ve heard a lot of other people’s horror stories recently, unfortunately. It’s very upsetting to know that they’re not just doing this to me but to other people, as well, and it just makes me really sad to know.

Please, know what you are getting into before thinking about subscribing to this company’s services. The cool products aren’t worth the risk you’re taking. A quick Google search will give you even worse horror stories about Ipsy’s unprofessionalism. 🙁

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING IPSY at all costs until they get their act together and become professional again. BUYER BEWARE!!!

GLOW ADDICTS BEAUTY BOX the company refused to return my money after my package never showed up I’ve contacted the postal service which they told me the package was seized due to fraudulent products inside. So glow addicts is selling fake crappy make up that could possibly harm people’s skin I’ve emailed them over 5 times first they said if my.package wasnt there by the end of the week they would return my money well it’s now 2 weeks later and they told me that it’s just to bad and they will not help me anymore . Extremely rude customer service and there theives selling fake products DO NOT BUY FROM GLOW ADDICTS BEAUTY BOX

    • Hi Erika , I’m not sure if you know this but because the postal service seized the box contact your bank , make sure you have the person you spoke too bout this { better is post master } tell bank that you tried to reach out to them about not receiving box , and why { keep to the facts } they’ll open a claim and place money back in your account . Once they contact Glow Addicts BB they have so much time to dispute the claim you’ve made against them . Your bank may do a follow up with you over claim , but keep checking account to make sure no reversal was done , if you see one it is usually due to them trying to get in touch and since no response they’ll sometimes reverse it until you contact them back ~ I hope this helps , I have had the same issue with products and had to do a bank claim to get money back , and I sure did ~ I got it all back ~ Best of Luck ~ ///=^} ~

    • Wow! Thanks for the info! That’s such a crappy way for them to operate.

  6. Company called Beauty Society that is an eco-conscious skincare and cosmetics company. The products are paraben, sulfate and gluten free. They have a beauty box that is $60 and you can get it monthly, every other month or every three months. All skincare products have a 12 month money back guarantee. They have an influencer program starting where you can get your box for free. Contact me for details.

    • I’d like more info if you don’t mind

    • Info on this subscription and influencer program…

  7. Boxycharm has always been my favorite. I get the base box, premium and boxyluxe. In some forums, I’ve read some bad reviews, but for the cost, even if I only love a few items, I’ve already saved money vs buying them full price.

I like Fab Fit Fun, but only subscribed once because I prefer boxyluxe and they’re the same price.

I don’t like the boxes/bags with only travel sized products because I’ll end up finding things I like and would end up buying. I don’t want to get any more ideas of products to buy. I spend a ton on makeup and skincare from Sephora. I’m Rouge and have enough items for a YouTube channel. Lol.

  8. Sephora has canceled their Play! program. Im not sure how I feel about it, I wasnt always happy with my samples, but I felt like that was a problem since their profile didnt ask about the types of products (brands, makeup, skincare, haircare, etc) you would prefer. The profile only asked you about your skin type, hair type, etc. So it was like they completely decided on their own what you would get and that was their major problem and why customers didnt like them. It would have been better if they asked you about your preferences, what brands you like, do you like daring or conventional makeup, lip balm vs lipstick, matte vs glossy. Im a huge fan of Fresh, almost every one of my purchases online or in store included at least one Fresh product and yet EVERYTIME there was a month that had box options with a Fresh sample I somehow got assigned a box that didnt have any Fresh samples (every month there were boxes A-E and you were assigned to one randomly I assume). I used to subscribe to Ipsy and Brichbox as well, but I only stayed with Sephora because I recognized the brands and I like to explore within trusted brands, not explore with unfamiliar brands. I really wished that they would have done a better job to try to understand what people were looking for with their subscription. Ipsy and Birchbox have much better profile questions and the types of products I recieved were better but my sensitive skin limited my ability/willingness to explore unfamiliar brands.
Sephora says that they’re coming out with more Sephora Favorites boxes to replace the program and you can purchase at-will, meaning you’re not bound to a subscription, but those boxes are always at least $25, but usually more in the range of $50-$90 so I wouldn’t call it a “replacement”. Also, if you pay attention to the “value” of the box then their pricing strategy makes very little sense, when a box valued at $52 sells for $25 but a box valued at $58 sells for $37. Where before I wasn’t even paying attention to the $120 I spent annually on samples that I mostly felt indifferent about, now I will be carefully considering any of the Sephora Favorites boxes, and honestly I have only purchased 1 Sephora Favs box ever because they’re not very impressive.
I think Sephora is going to end up loosing a lot of money over this and I hope that they rethink the Play! program but with a better profile system.

  9. These BOXES are a GodSend for the aloof Husband (my hand is raised). I personally subscribe to BoxyCharm and in 16 months, only 1 bad experience. Clearly someone had broken into the box and stolen items..Scotch Taped back together.. But for most part, my wife loves, loves, loves the first week of the month. She knows I am bringing her Boxy Charm home. Guys, have it sent to office and bring
it home with you. That way you have a “Get out of jail Free” card at least once a month.

  10. How in the world did Ipsy Ultimate make it to this list and Boxycharm Premium did not!?!? LOL iPsy Ultimate has been sucking since month one.

  11. Just FYI for the Canadians out there. IPSY glam bag ships to Canada for only $5, putting the total around $17 without add ons. Boxycharm gives free shipping to Canada but the boxes are not $25 as advertised for Canadians due to the conversion rate, meaning I was charged almost double. This was a surprise to me as IPSY does not do this. It appears the price is 10 bucks whether from Canada or the states. Just something to keep in mind as Ipsy, in my opinion was a better deal for us Canadian gals. Because of this I was going to upgrade to the Ipsy glam plus bag, but unfortunately that doesn’t ship to Canada….. only the base bag. Despite what the articles above say. It does not ship to Canada.

    • I was wondering about this! Thanks so much for sharing this info

  12. I was with IPSY for 3 years, loved what I received, they went and changed their billing cycle from the 2nd of every month to the 30th. Which caused an overdraft because I was notified of the change 3 days before they took my payment. People like me who get paid once a month I’m broke by the 30th.

  13. Yep

  14. I love boxcharm…there are different priced boxes that are confusing so i just get them all and love them…lol!

ipsy reg is awesome! Love picking add on in the 2nd of every month.

I must warn DO NOT GET FAB FIT FUN! I HAD $145 BOX DAMAGED. FFF GAVE ME $15 & THATS IT. THEY ARE CROOKS. NOTHING COULD BE USED. THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS!

Neither does birchbox! I was w them from the beginning for 4 yrs…1 month i had a hard time w $ .. they wouldnt give me a break or pause my box for 1 month. Dirty sobs!

Im ready to cancel sephora.. everything is tiny & repeats.

Allure has amazing months but then other months aren’t so great.

    • Agree on FabFitFun

2 Bad experiences in a row. Not with Boxy Charm

Will try Allure next, sorry to hear about Sephora. That was on my TRY List fer sher.

    • You should try lenybox it’s definitely one of my favorites.

  15. Love sub boxes. Just signed up for fashionista. My favs in order are
    Fabfit
    Allure
    Sephora
    Ipsyglam

Was a Birchbox fan for years but the products got redundant

  16. Stay away from BoxyCharm! Horrible customer service! Promises made and never kept! Servers are constantly being brought down when launching something new. You have to be glued to their Social Media or miss out on picking out Customization and have 24 hours from when they announce it or you miss out on it! You can be a member for years and they do not care if your parent or child died, they make no exceptions to that 24 hour window! They give some people $50 product that everyone wants while others get $15 product. You fill out a beauty quiz so they know what your skin tone is and your preferences are. Say you like red lipstick, you will get pink or nude every time and the people who like those colors will get the red. They make promises that are not true. Right before Christmas, everyone got the shaft! We paid $21 a month for years. Suddenly we we were paying $25 and the new Premium Box was $35 but if you canceled the base box of $25 you lost the Luce box that comes in December that is basically $50. So in December, we went from $50 to $85 and then in Jan to $60 instead of $21 for a more products but nobody wants to cancel because we didn’t know which is best and we were told if you had both in Dec, we could have the Story Book palette in both boxes if we picked. After everyone paid, they changed it and said no if you got the Luxe the Premium box is getting this awful Dose Of Colors palette and the base box was getting a smaller Story Book Palette. I was so upset! I had planned to give my niece one of my Story Book Palettes for keeps. Then, the day they were shipping out we were told some of the Premium boxes were getting the Natasha Denona Palette! Are you kidding me?! I was so upset. I just knew I would not be the box that would get it and of course I did not get it! They give you Charms to buy stuff but the Charm room is empty! It has become a scam!!!

FabFitFun is the best, especially if you pay by the year so you can customize every box.

  17. What about Slay Glam Box? I expected to see that box which in my opinion is MUCH better than some that are listed!

  18. I subscribe to Laurel and Reed, Kinder Beauty, and Petit Vour. These three subscriptions are amazing and it feels good to know that no animals were used for testing. I am going to try The Clean Beauty Box for more cruelty free products.

  19. Whats going on?

Does Boxycharm have the products in their boxes made in China in Boxycharms Lab?

    Is this True?

    Does Ipsy do this?

    Is this true?

    • Don’t order boxycharm, I ordered it, and they didn’t give me what I wanted.

  20. I’ve not tried any of the others but I’ve been getting new beauty test tube for several years now and the products are incredible. Mant are full-size and you get so much each time.

  21. Boxy is the only one out of these that I have tried, but beware of their scammy manipulative tactics. Doing the subscription is fine, they’re good at that, but dont fall for any of their “boxy pop ups” because they put products in there literally no one can use (horrible colors, unclear verbiage, etc) or even their charm room and ALL SALES ARE FINAL, even if it hasn’t left the facility, even if they havent gotten started on your order.
There was one instance where I ordered something from the charm room, but instead of automatically applying your charms, it automatically applies your credit card. I made a second order with the actual charms and emailed them right away that I had made a mistake in ordering and to please cancel my order. All they said was all sales are final. Why do you have a button for a charm room with product in it if your charms dont automatically get applied? It shouldn’t be called a charm room, then, it should be called a store. Its misleading and the fact that I had been a loyal customer for a year didnt make a difference when speaking with them, or the fact that I legitimately didnt have the money for it. I cancelled my subscription shortly after, I’m sure I can find a company that actually values their customers.
The one in the tube looks pretty dope.

    • of you didnt have the money for it, then how were you unable to make a purchase?

that doesn’t make them a scam. I’m not even a huge fan of boxy, and I know better than that.

      • Maybe that money was meant for her electricity bill. Good grief!

      • I haven’t tried any of these and am trying to decide which is best for me. I am 50, just learning to use make up. I don’t use foundation or anything because I don’t know what to use!😁 I would also like to try animal friendly products. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

      • Angela, I haven’t tried many from this list, but Petit Vour is really good for cruelty free beauty and skin care. I also suggest Vegan Cuts. They include cruelty free brands that are easier to find in stores like Target and Ulta.

      • Angela if you have internet access YouTube does have lots of box comparisons which might help you decide.

  22. I tried ISPY Glam bag off & on, but pretty pleased with Glam Plus. After hearing a friend talk about FabFitFun I had to try. The first box I loved, but didn’t realize it was an Editors addition. I did get the first box for a little over $30 (well worth), then the very next week I was charged full price for the Fall Box. It would have been nice if this was explained & I had a choice of just the Seasonal box. That being said I wasn’t as excited with the Seasonal box, but I got my money’s worth. The Editors box is much smaller that the Seasonal box making it look like you got way more, where Seasonal is a large box making you question is that all.

  23. The Ipsy glam bag plus does not ship to Canada. Only the glam bag does. Main reason why I’m leaving Ipsy.

    • That’s EXACTLY why I left Ipsy. I was frustrated with a drawer-full off unused samples that are free at Sephora. At the same time, I was on the waiting list for BoxyCharm premium. No sooner than canceling Ipsy, my premium wait with BoxyCharm was over! Excited to have full-size products. I feel better knowing that if the product is not for me, it will make a nice gift. Can’t gift samples!

      • Im an ipsy glam bag member in canada.Every month on the 2nd they have add on products that u can buy (up to 8)and these are some of the products in the glam bag plus and You get to choose from products that are full sizes $18usd and then $12usd and deluxe samples are $3
It gets shipped in the pink box .
Today being the 2nd, I ordered 8 extras. So altogether,13 products this month! I love that I save alot compared to the retail value of the items.

  24. I’ve subscribed to Ipsy, for a couple years. Their products are samples, but high end. The cosmetic bag alone, is worth the price of admission. Always comes on time. Ipsy has great customer service who actually answer phone/email
and resolve any problem; including address changes.
Haven’t tried Birchbox. Looks good; but I don’t need another $50 bill every month.

    • what phone number do you use to actually talk to someone at Ipsy? I’ve only found 2 numbers for them and they are simply recordings telling you that they dont take phone calls and do all customer service thru their site…been trying to cancel service for 8 months and they keep raiding my bank account but send no product, even my bank has tried…

      • [email protected] they respond within hours. I literally sent them and email yesterday which was Saturday and got a response later the same day

  25. I’ve been getting Boxycharm and Ipsy glam bag and the glam bag plus. I love both of them but I’ve been curious to try different ones. Fabfitfun and Play! looks interesting

  26. I’ve been doing Fab Fit Fun for years and it’s always given me great products, recently I’ve tried new subscriptions and hands down Boxy Charm is the BEST beauty box yet . I’ve also tried Ipsy, ipsy glam bag plus, glossy box, lip monthly, scent bird, and Birchbox . Glam bag plus is similar to Boxy charm and glossy box sends some good stuff too but hands down a FFF and Boxycharm are the best deals out of all them!

  27. Chatters just released their first beauty box. It doesn’t appear to be a subscription service though, at this point, however, it does indicate that they will be releasing boxes seasonally. Probably a good one to be watching for Canadians. https://chatters.ca/products/chatters-beauty-box

  28. Sephora $ Allure!

  29. Hey all, I want to send someone a gift. I kind of need a box that ships worldwide and offers quality full size products. I’m not a makeup person, I barely use it but my friend is always beautiful/elegant and she likes to look amazing all the time in profile pictures. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    • Cult beauty starter kit. All name brand items, some are full size and ships world wide.

  30. I love fff definitely get your money’s worth, plus the add on sale and edit sales are amazing, the prices for beauty products and skin care cannot be beat, I haven’t paid full retail price since joining and it’s all high end brands, I also like look fantastic for skin care, boxycharm is my favorite for makeup, I’d love to try the New Test Tube and the Margo Elena but neither ship to Canada which is disappointing!! I also really like Throne box ,it has a nice mix of makeup, skincare and other fun stuff included!

  31. I love Ipsy and Beauty fix. However, with Boxycharm, I did get some “loud palettes, lippies, eyelashes ect”. Personally, I wish there was a sub geared more towards us 51 + and beautiful babes! So, in sum I will never sub with BC, or Boxyluxe. This is a great box for the younger group of women or those whom act in a live play, abstract, bold, and very distracting. The makeup is very theatrical, and does not in anyway display a day to day NEUTRAL, REALISTIC, AND SOFT LOOK….. However, I must admit, the Bc and BCL ……. will never never touch my face!!!!! WAY too bold ect makeup. KVD was aweful, ect.In sum, BC/BLC are just little girls makeup.

UMMMM, maybe focus on diversity, age and concerns like ipsy does….might want to youtube…

    • I agree! The 50+ crowd needs a version of Boxycharm although I have received some great skin care. I have tried several boxes including FFF but I still prefer Boxycharm. I’ve upgraded to Boxycharm Luxe.

    • I’m 47 and have had both Ipsy and BoxyCharm – canceled both after a couple of years. Ipsy almost never sent anything I liked regardless of how many times I took their quiz. BoxyCharm’s skincare products made the box worth it at times, but I do like eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks. However, 90% of the colors sent to me were ones I would never wear and often included things I never use, like eye lashes. So, basically my subscription boxes were more for gifts then my actual use.

I would like a sub box that does cater to the maturing woman and perhaps in the colors I say I like in the quizzes.

      • I feel the same way about BoxyCharm. It does no good to take their quiz because they’re gonna send what they wanna. Lol. I like the bold eyeshadow palettes but I have so many now. I want to try another box for awhile.

    • You should definitely check out The Box by Fashionsta. It’s a really good mix of skincare and makeup. Most of the palettes are more mellow and contain nude colors. Their customer service is absolutely phenomenal as well.

  32. I look forward q month to the Ipsy, Ipsy Plus & Boxy Charm. They are presents in my mailbox & I love trying all the products. Always hopeing for a MIRACLE face cream & MIRACLE eye cream..😃

    • You’re a nurse aren’t you? 😊

  33. I love the allure beauty box it’s my fav so far, but I would like to try the Sephora Play beauty box.

  34. I’ve only tried one which is FabFitFun so will have to try others before I can say which one is my favorite

  35. The Allure box for me!

    • I totally agree! It’s the best for the price and I love that I always get all eye shadow, mascara or blush, in each box. It seems w/ some of the boxes for the same price, you get a bunch of skin oil, dry shampoo, perfume samples, that kind of thing. But this box and Macy’s are the two best in my opinion!

  36. I would love to try BoxyCharm!!! I currently subscribe to Allure (which I LOVE) AND Ipsy (which is hit or miss). I recently cancelled Walmarts box and Birchbox because I grew tired of getting repeat products. I have also purchased the Target box from my local retailer, and it wasn’t bad for the price point. Ut, Allure is hands down my favorite. I would love to try BoxyCharm before I subscribe to see if it’s a good fit for my interests.

    • Agreed! Love Allure:)

  37. I would love to try ipsy, birchbox, or macys beauty box. Pinched for extra cash so I’ll just drool over what everyone else gets😜

  38. I love that Play! does such a wide variety of high brand samples, so I’d love to try that out.

  39. FabFitFun is hit or miss, but I’d say it’s my favorite of this bunch.

  40. I’d like to try NewBeauty TestTube!

  41. Ipsy Glam Bag Plus would be my favorite

    • Ipsy glam bag is better. You get about the same in each. I did not find the glam plus to be any better. Actually, found the base $12 bag is just more for the money.

      • Ummm…what? The regular ipsy glam bag contains only tiny samples…the glam bag plus has full size items.

  42. Fabfitfun

  43. I really like ” FabFitFun” box

  44. I haven’t tried a beauty box yet and really am hoping to try ipsy, birch box, or allure!

  45. Macy’s and Sephora it’s a tie….

  46. Just started really getting into make-up and skincare, but have been on the fence about starting a subscription. Atm highly considering Ipsy (Plus) & BoxyCharm. Ipsy on the personalization portion has great appeal and BoxyCharm for the full-size products.

    • I really love Ipsy. Had it about 6-7 months. You’re supposed to be allowed to pick your own products but that doesn’t really happen. I personally like and love every thing they sent me. I have gone on and they don’t allow any “choices” or they only allow one item to be chosen between 2-3 preselected products. I love that I am unaware of the content. Life is hard in 2020 right now we need an escape.

    • I’ve been receiving Ipsy, Ipsy Plus, Boxycharm and Boxy Premium for a while now. Honestly I change my mind every month on which is my fav. All are worth the $, and with Ipsy plus new ultra personalization you chose 3 of your 5 full size products so it’s hard to go wrong. I just signed up for Look Fantastic, have received 1 box. It was meh. Especially for a “birthday” box. Out of all the choices out there you can’t go wrong with Ipsy or Boxy in my opinion.

  47. I don’t have any regular subscriptions to any of these right now, but my favorite from the past was BeautyFix. I would love to try new beauty test tube or boxwalla.

    • Beautyfix is, I feel is an excellent way to clarify, and prep your skin first and foremost. In sum, if you use a harsh exfoliator, that does some damage, My Grandmother aways told me to never rub lotion, cleanser ect downward, but towards the hair line. She was right, I look between 39-40……

  48. Birchbox

  49. Enjoy FFF, looking forward to my first Margot Elena box!

  50. I love fabfitfun because of the variety of items! Id love to try the sephora box next.
