NewBeauty TestTube is a bi-monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Every other month they send you a tube full of deluxe and full-size beauty samples and you also get a digital subscription to NewBeauty Magazine. It’s a little pricier than other beauty subscriptions, but in general, the value is usually great.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

This packaging is so cute! I love the colors and that all of the products fit neatly inside. I know from previous reviews that the products don't always fit, but I was happy to see how sleek this month's unboxing was.

The Products

Dermala Patch Me (If You Can) – Retail Value $13

I rarely get excited about products like this, they sometimes feel gimmicky to me for some reason. I tried these and then used them again, and again, and boy was I wrong about these patches. They really work! Each patch is made with Hydrocolloid to draw out pus and oil, reduce inflammation and redness, speed up healing, and reduce the risk of scarring. All you have to do is peel a single patch and apply it onto a pimple. They recommend leaving the patch on for at least an hour but overnight is best for bigger results. A change in color to white indicates pus absorbance. I have never really used a product like this to spot treat a pimple, but I was shocked by the results. The white on the patches is real my friends and then suddenly the pimple is gone. Yay for trying new things!

It’s a 10 Miracle Blow Dry H20 Shield, 2 fl oz. – Retail Value $16

This spray "shield" is heat-activated and is created with a weightless formula to increase shine, combat frizz, detangle, protect, and preserve your blow-dry styled hair throughout the day. I don't have a need to blow dry my hair (naturally curly so I air dry) so I, unfortunately, wasn't able to test this product on my own. Luckily my Mom is a hairstylist so I passed this along to her to try. I am very familiar with this brand and have always loved everything that I have tried so I felt confident that my Mom would use it and love it on some of her clients. I was right, this was a wonderful styling product to help protect color-treated hair while helping to create a flawless style that is going to hold no matter what the weather.

Neolastin Rejuvenate and Hydrate Moisturizing Cream, 0.6 oz – Retail Value $56

My skin is very dry so any hydrating moisturizer gets me very excited! This cream is made with key active ingredients including neolastin complex (Nuflex), Propanediol, Argireline, actimoist bio-1PF, vitamin E oil, xpertmoist molecular film. It is lightweight and meant for all skin types to help provide 24-hour hydration. It also works to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, tones, brightens, improves the appearance of sagging skin, and restores skin's natural tone and texture. I used this cream for a few days, but something about it did not work with my skin. I didn't feel that it provided enough hydration for me, leaving my skin feeling tight and my makeup flaky which usually doesn't happen. It also left me feeling a bit greasy, which is really odd since my skin is so dry. I would wake up in the morning after using it before bed and feel like I had a film on my skin. After a few days of using the cream, I started breaking out as well so I had to stop using it once that happened. I'm not exactly sure what in the ingredients would have irritated my skin, but I can say that I would feel some tingling when I applied, which should have been the first indicator that I should have discontinued use.

Be a 10 Be Separate Mascara – Retail Value $26

I am a creature of habit and have been using the same mascara since high school so I rarely get too excited about a new mascara. I tried this and have used it every day since, I love it so much! This is a 2 in 1 applicator so you can separate and add volume to your top lashes while delicately applying to your bottom lashes. This mascara is made with beeswax, carnauba wax, and rice bran wax to give your lashes intense length and a little curl. I love that this formula doesn't flake throughout the day so your coverage will last you all day, yet it comes off really well without making a big mess. The high-impact wand does wonders to separate my lashes and make my eyes look awake. The best part is that this formula doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes. A win all around, but who is going to tell my lifelong mascara that it might be time to go?!

Symbiosis London Tightening & Resplendent Eye Mask, 0.50 fl oz – Retail Value $93

My eyes are extremely sensitive which means I have to test eye masks like this with caution. I have used this a few times, but I am starting to think that it is causing some irritation. I am giving it a break for now and then am going to try again though because I do love the way this makes my under eyes feel. This cream is made to tighten, rejuvenate, and brighten that delicate under-eye area. It is made with hyaluronic acid, pullulan, and shea butter to reduce puffiness, dark circles, and reduce the appearance of fine lines. I haven't been able to use this enough to say the long-term impact, but I can say that it provides amazing hydration, smoothness, and overall brightness.

Shielded Beauty Face the Day Purifying Mist, 2 fl oz – Retail Value $36

This mist can be used before applying your skincare routine in the morning and at night or even over your makeup to add a bit of hydration and freshness throughout the day. This purifying mist is formulated with Guardian ComplexTM to lock in essential moisture while shielding you from harmful environmental aggressors and airborne impurities. Some of the key ingredients include silver citrate, zeolite, citric acid blend, marigold extract, and sodium PCA which is similar to hyaluronic acid. This is another product that I am not sure if it is working well with my dry sensitive skin. I did feel some tingling at application and I have noticed that my skin has felt more dry and irritated since I started using this product. I am wondering if the citrus is causing the irritation? I typically love mists like this to add hydration and a youthful glow, but I am going to hold off on using this product for a bit and try it again once my skin is under control to see if it caused the irritation.

Megababe Space Bar Detoxifying Charcoal Underarm Soap, 3.5 oz. – Retail Value $8

I passed this bar along to my husband because he absolutely loves bar soaps and I secretly am grossed out by them (not so secret now I guess lol). This bar has a strong tea tree scent that smells amazing and so fresh! It is made with activated charcoal to help keep your skin clean and odor-free. Avocado, sunflower, and olive oil help to keep your skin feeling hydrated and smooth. My husband really loved this bar! It had a nice lather leaving him feeling clean and fresh while still hydrating his extra-dry winter skin.

Verdict

This NewBeauty TestTube has a whopping $248 value! With this being my first box, I can safely say that I am impressed. Did I love all of the products that came this month? A lot were misses, but that was really only based on how the products themselves reacted to my sensitive skin. If I find that these products don't work for me personally, I know I can pass them along to friends that they might work better for. The blow-dry shield comes from an amazing haircare brand that, while I wasn't able to use it, I was able to pass it along to my Mom to use on her clients. My favorite products this month were the mascara (again someone please help me break up with my old mascara) and the pimple patches! Both of my favorite products blew me away because they are things that I normally would never think to try! The retail value, curation, and quality of products were all perfection for me this month!

My experience with pimple patches is that they can leave an awful red mark if other more aggressive products are used in conjunction. I have yet to have a satisfying experience with them 😣.
Also, bar soap, if kept in a proper container/holder, will not get gooey and “gross.” They are by far way more environmentally friendly then body wash that is probably 95% water and contained in plastic. Granted, bar soap is not very sexy or fun, but if the point is to simply clean oneself, it does the job just fine.
In regards to recycling those plastic bottles, #1 and #2 containers (marked with a triangle and number on the bottom of the container) are the most easy (and likely) to be recycled. Colored plastic (versus white or natural coloring,) is considered too costly to be recycled even if it’s marked with a 1 or 2. I apologize for my tangent, I just thought I would pass this information along as I didn’t realize how complicated (and kind of fascinating) recycling plastic can be. 🤔

Just wanted to point out, bar soap totally CAN be fun!!

I’m obsessed with product in general, and that extends to my shower supplies, so I LOVE using fun products in all sorts of scents. And there are plenty of bar soaps out there that aren’t just your average, boring dove bar. I mean, look at the lush bar soaps!

Thanks so much! My husband is always telling me how we need to stop with the bottled body wash, baby steps for me.

SubBoxSarah

I have kept an eye on this sub for a long time. I like the idea of it being bi-monthly. I had SO much product from getting multiple boxes every month. I’m down to just 2 now but even they are a bit too much for just me to use up. This sounds like a good one to try. There must not be any customization options?

I love that it is bi-monthly, makes it more exciting in a way! No customization on this one though.

I’m right there with you on bar soaps. I didn’t like them as a kid, all gooey and gross after they sit in the soap dish, and I don’t like them now.

I do really think that feeling starts as a kid! I remember being little telling my Mom how I didn’t like them, hahaha
