Welcome to our monthly post highlighting our favorite discoveries from a variety of books, beauty, Black-owned subscriptions, and more. Here are our favorite items from the past month:

Taryn's Favorite:

The Item: Live Well Gift Set by Modern Sprout

The Cost: $50.00 (currently out of stock)

From: Bombay & Cedar Limited Edition Spring/Summer Box

Why I love it: This Unwind box was actually a box within the Spring/Summer Bombay & Cedar box and is inspired by garden-aromatherapy tools to help create a serene and soothing resting place. Inside this box was a 100% cotton sleep mask, lavender pillow spray, lavender bamboo kit, and a soy-blend candle. The little box is curated to help provide a relaxing atmosphere, something that I really needed this summer. I have been using all of the items and love each of them! My lavender is starting to grow and will hopefully flourish now that the hot weather is breaking. I just finished my pillow spray bottle which I use on my bed, my couch pillows, and in my kids' rooms because the smell is so amazing and calming! Everything has really helped to create a calming space and makes my home smell amazing. This really was the ultimate treat!

Why I love it: I am so impressed by the quality and transparency of Sunsoil! On top of it, their products are more affordable than their competitors. These drops had a strong cinnamon flavor but with the natural hemp aftertaste that I love in CBD tinctures.

Reign Together CBD Massage Oil for Birchbox August 2020

The Item: Reign Together CBD Massage Oil

The Cost: Full-size $45.00

From: Birchbox

Why I love it: In my experience, CBD products have wonderful restorative and healing benefits. I was thrilled to receive a CBD product in a subscription box and this Reign Together CBD Massage Oil did not disappoint. It was perfect for soothing my neck and upper back tension. With a deliciously light citrus scent, it absorbs quickly, leaving behind no uncomfortable greasy residue. My muscles felt soothed and my skin felt soft and moisturized after using.

Becca's 2 Favorites:

The Item: Marabu Alcohol-Based Graphix Sketch Markers in "Heat"

The Cost: $17.99

From: Paletteful Packs

ACTIVE DEAL: Save 10% off your first box!
CODE: FIRSTMONTH10

Why I love it: These markers are lit! The pigments and the way they flow are amazing. The dual-tipped ends are very versatile and I feel like an illustrator when I use them!

The Item: Hobby Horse Kit

The Cost: N/A

From: Koala Crate by KiwiCo

Why I love it: How do two boys play cowboy with only one hobby horse? They don't have to worry about that anymore!! While we have one hobby horse, it was awesome to receive a kit to make one of our very own. This fun and easy project produced our newest member of the family, "Flash." With two horses on the farm, everybody gets to ride their own!

Jessica's Favorite:

The Item: Moodpatch Down Time Eye Gels

The Cost: $15 for 5

From: Patchology Deluxe Mystery Box

Why I love it: These were some of my favorite eye patches that I spent my own money on before getting them in this box, so to see a full box of these aromatherapy-infused eye masks in my mystery box put a big smile on my face. These bad boys are infused with calendula, lavender, and evening primrose, and along with hydrating the delicate skin around my eyes, they really help me kick back and relax. If it's time for me to take a nap, I enjoy placing these on my face and cuddling up with Duchess for some bliss.

Ragan's Favorite:

The Item: Cat Lady Flag Wand Toy

The Cost: Listed Value $5.99

From: CatLadyBox

ACTIVE DEAL: 20% off your first box
CODE: MSA20

Why I love it: My black cat, Madison, turned 13 earlier this year and he has been a moody teenager lately, not wanting to participate in cat box photo sessions. But he liked this item! Sneaky, my calico, also played with it. It didn't even have catnip, which Madison sometimes responds to, so it must've been a great toy on its own.

Brandi's Favorite:

The Item: Scribble Scrubbie Pets

The Cost: Retail Value $9.21

From: Sensory Theraplay

Why I love it: There’s not much that keeps my busy 2-year-old occupied for long lately, but these little pets seem to do the trick! He gets messy with the markers, but it washes off and he enjoys coloring the little animals and then washing them off with water and the little brush that’s included. This is such a great fine motor activity that also allows for a little creativity! You can color on these animals over and over again and I’m sure you could add some variation to their play by using squirt or spray bottles to clean them off!

Abby's Favorite:

The Item: Caboodle Enamel Pin

The Cost: Listed Price $10

From: Quirky Crate

Why I love it: This pin puts a huge smile on my face! It is so cute and compact; in its classic purple and green glory, this Caboodle looks great on the collar of my jean jacket.

Savannah's Favorite:

meatballs plated top view

The Item: Turkey Bacon Swiss Meatballs with Garlic Butter Cracker Zucchini

The Cost: $13.95/serving

From: Home Chef

Why I love it: In all of my time reviewing Home Chef, I've not once customized a protein, so for this recipe I swapped out the ground turkey for Impossible meat. It was delicious! This meal was fast and easy to make, the portions were satisfying, and the flavors were comforting as all get out. I'll be recreating this again after my next rare trip to the grocery store.

Hi there, I'm Christen. I am all sorts of things:

🌳 a writer who loves to convey feeling

🌲 a mother who wants to have just as much fun as my kids do

🌳 an outdoors-lover who's achieved #1000hoursoutside with my family

🌲 a low-maintenance self-carer

🌳 a general hungry person with an unstoppable sweet tooth

You'll find me collecting stationery and squirreling away stickers, riding bikes and swimming with my family, creating outfits in colors and silhouettes that make me feel amazing, wearing big earrings, drinking beer and asking my husband to feed me harmonies to sing, taking my vitamins, living for dancing to live music, roping everyone into a craft, being human and vulnerable, and celebrating the phenomenon of being alive.

...and doing it all with energy, delight, and jokes along the way.

CBD is just the latest ‘fad’ and in double blind studies performs just as well as the placebos. It works because you want it to work.

Might as well review how well some overpriced essential oil works to ‘cure’ your health problems.

Thanks for your feedback, Rachel. I recognize that CBD is trendy right now, and while I do believe that hemp has healing properties, I don’t make any claims that it has cured my health problems. I really like the company and the quality of the product.
