  1. I am so excited to see this list. I personally subscribe to and review several of these on my YT channel.

    1. Tribe Beauty Box. I love this box. The products have always been top-notch. It is reasonably priced and can hold its own against some of the larger well know beauty subscription service. In addition, I have to add that their Customer service is amazing, timely and seeks to handle things in a fair and timely manner

    2. The Beem Box. Another fantastic subscription service that can easily hold its own against the bigger [currently] more well-known competitors. Beem Box is very engaging with its subbies on social media and offers great incentives for referrals.

    3. Curl Box. Caters to natural hair wearers. This is My favorite box of all!!!!! Everything about them is AMAZING. CurlBox ensures an amazing hair experience every month with every box. Most of the brands we want to try we can get in full sizes and at least 4-5 products from the line. From time to time they also add some extra items like hair jewelry, scarves, and even brushes/combs. AS LONG AS THERE IS A “CURL BOX “I WILL BE A SUBSCRIBER.

There is however one that I am so totally disappointed with and choose to not do business with. There was a discrepancy with a product that looked as if it were used as well as an unusable brush, [the bristles were glued together], And yes I did submit pictures. When I reached out to them they put the blame on me and refused to take any type of ownership. I do not want to put their name out there but I am adding this because they know who they are and I hope they get it together so their business can thrive.

I will be adding some new subscription services listed. I am excited to try them for me, my family, my channel, and subbies as well as introducing others to amazing companies and services they may not currently know or experience.

  2. How does one submit information to you about a new Black-owned subscription box?

  3. Thank you so much for this! I’m so excited to see Black-owned subscription boxes and I love the variety!

  4. I’m amazed at all of the choices and saw a couple I may subscribe. Only issue is out of 55 not one for men. That’s sad. I hope there will be some added soon.

  5. Wow! At a time i want to support more black owned businesses there goes MSA making it easy for me to identify. A heartfelt thank you for this list! Can’t wait to subscribe. Cocotique I see you!

  6. Wow! All of these look amazing! MSA needs to review more of these boxes.

  7. I would love to see reviews of ujamaa in the future !

  8. Marshmallows of the month has a gluten free option for the home made gram crackers it comes with! Love gourmet hand crafted marshmallows, so indulgent and good!

  9. It would be great to see these boxes reviewed on MSA. They look great! I have not heard of most of these.

    • Agreed! I’d love to see a bunch of these reviewed!

  10. I bought some things from Loved + Blessed because of reading this post, and the service was great! The box arrived quickly and the mini-posters, sticker, and necklace I got were high-quality. I also watched a free video course on Jamila’s website – “Miracles Do Happen” and it was quite good.

A few months ago I ordered from the “As Seen in Journeebox” section of Kevia’s website and got fast delivery of fine products. They’re starting a new subscription called JourneeWell that provides gloves, sanitizer, etc. I got an email today saying the website for JourneeWell had a glitch and wasn’t working on July 1 as planned, but should be up soon.

That Marshmallow of the Month box looks irresistable — must try it this fall!

  11. Legit never heard of majority of these boxes! :(. I feel so sad about that. Now I’ve seen about 20 I want to subscribe to, how does a girl decide????

  12. What a great list! I’m late to the party but would love to see Now in Books listed among these. Now in Books offers a monthly YA box or a quarterly Fiction box that features a new release paired with music.

  13. Thanks for this list.

  14. To Rena,
Thank you for having the idea of creating this list! To Anna and Luna and other MSA-community friends, thank you for adding so many boxes to the early beginnings and development of this list. And to MSA, thank you – I love this article!

    • It makes me happy they did so!! Also MSA, would you consider adding Aroma Reveal Box and Copacetic Cosmetics? I’m happy you added Jersey Shore Cosmetics, they’re amazing! And I saw the suggestion for Marshmallow of the Month Club, yes please! Also, GlitzGlamBox, Ujamaa Box and Fortunately Inspired. And then Curated Self Care (as curated gift boxes, not recurring). Thank you for this!!

  15. Yes to Cloth & Paper! One of my favorite sub boxes of all time who is currently killing it. 👏

  16. Isn’t Journee box (Kevia) also black owned?

    • I realized that should be “Black” owned. (Years of editing to the Associated Press style created a habit I need to break…)

      • Yes, thank you, Leslie – we just added Journee Box to this list!

  17. Please add Girl Gang Strong Subscription Box to the list they are fairly new and black female owned plus it’s founded by a teen!!

    • Thanks, Jordan! This subscription boxes looks awesome! We are actively working to include additional recommendations 🙂

  18. I think Tribe beauty should be right under cocotique. I subscribe to both and they are both amazing. I’m wondering who made this line up. Journeebox is one I’ve been interested in for a while but not mentioned here either. Disappointed

  19. Two big ones are missing from this list: Tribe Beauty Box and Journee, They definitely should be added!

    • Thanks for your feedback! Both are added to this list 🙂

  20. There are two different curly hair boxes, and I had no idea that something like that existed! I’m going to go research both right now to see if one might be better for my curl type than the other. Thank you!!!

    • Awesome! Let us know which box you decide on, Frances!

  21. I’m surprised Tribe Beauty Box didn’t make the list. It’s a great box, especially for those who are interested in indie makeup brands

    • Hi, Mo! We appreciate you pointing out Tribe Beauty Box – this subscription has been added to the list!

  22. Thank you! Just got on the wait list for curlbox. I can’t wait!

    • I also just signed up for curl box! My poor hair has been abused so hopefully this will help!

  23. I noticed a new company on crate joy called skin 365 … looks like another black owned company

It would be great if msa could review this box. The price is reasonable and from what I can tell by the photos it looks good

  24. Thanks so much for this list. I was just talking to my sister in law and she was asking about this. I personally subscribe to Brown Sugar box and Journee box. But I didn’t even know about the rest.

  25. Also The Bakery box. For bath and body products.

  26. MSA. – good start, but how did you miss Marshmallow of the Month Club!

fyi – here’s several more as identified on Cratejoy:

    1. Black Girl MATHgic
    2. Work • Space • Spark
    3. Fortunately Inspired
    4. Cosmic Crystal Box
    5. Jambo Book Club
    6. KidsnCraftz
    7. Marshmallow of the Month Club
    8. The Motherland Plug
    9. EmbraceBox
    10. Music Library Box
    11. AROMA REVEAL – Self Care Subscription Box
    12. Culture Cakes Kit
    13. Momo’s Book Club
    14. The Mental Wealth Box
    15. The Baby Dust Box
    16. On The Go Mom Box
    17. KETO BLACK
    18. Bibliophilic Excursions

    • Thank you for your post. I cannot believe I did not know about marshmallow of the month. Also black girl maghgic is amazing!

    • Thank you so much for these suggestions! I put Work. Space. Spark and Aroma Reveal on my wish list.

  27. Let’s be real, buying lingerie from Rihanna is not helping BLM. This post from MSA could be a little more thoughtful.

    • To be fair, the post says black owned subscriptions, not specifically BLM. (This coming from someone who has a BLM sign in our front window)
      Support would still be appreciated.

    • Rihanna is proudly and unapologetically black. Why not support her? How many black-owned lingerie brands do you know at that scale?

      • Rihanna created Fenty beauty line to finally have a variety of foundation shades that support BIPOC. So, I’m pretty sure Rihanna had BLM in mind, since no other beauty company made that many shades in foundations specifically for BIPOC.

    • Rihanna also donates a ton of money to a bunch of different causes. I support that.

  28. Susan, your attitude super bums me out. Being black impacts every aspect of a person’s life & makes their lives more challenging, whether that’s walking down the street, driving home from work, finding a shampoo that works for their hair type, getting a small business loan, etc etc etc. (Some of these are also specific reasons why there DO need to be subscription boxes for black women, & why there do need to be posts supporting black-owned businesses.)

That’s what people who are having “these issues” are trying to say. It seems like you, & other people like you, are not listening to black voices. You’ve set up some false equivalencies in your post that refuse to acknowledge the challenges that are unique to black people & that are pervasive in our society.

And you’re tired of simply hearing/reading about it? Please try to imagine living that reality every day of your life.

  29. How about a blog post that caters to pets other then cats and dogs?

I get ratty box emails, the box looks adorable! I dont have rats, yet if i did i d want to subscribe immediately

How about a post devoted only to seasonal boxes?

    • Ok Karen. This post was not about the “pet lives matter” or “winter matters” movement.

This post is to support black owned businesses and BIPOC, because if you have not noticed, black owned businesses do not get nearly as much attention as white businesses. Also, most of the people who review for MSA are white.

      • I agree, I would love to see a box for other pets.

      • Well said Mal!

    • Change your name to Karen! Also shouldn’t you had made that post on a pet subscription box review, or are you just causing trouble per usual?

  30. I would ALSO like to nominate the Journee Box and Tribe Beauty.

Both boxes are curated perfectly and I absolutely love both boxes literally am so grateful I subscribed.

    • Yes! I immediately looked for Tribe Beauty Box and it wasn’t there. Bili is an inspiration.

    • I know, I was wondering “where’s Kevia??”

      • Thank you for all the feedback! Tribe Beauty Box is added to this list and Journee Box is in progress to be added.

      • I REALLY REALLY REALLY love the Tribe Beauty Box and I REALLY REALLY REALLY love the Journee Box.

Tribe Beauty is just perfect. The curation of beauty is fresh, fun, and amazing. Billi is spot on. Not only is the box curated perfectly, it truly is an inclusive brand. Seriously, she did that. And now there is a lash subscription.

The Journee Box is by far one of my favorite boxes ever. I can’t breathe or blink when I open it because I don’t want to miss any of the fine details. Kevia is so talented. The box itself is just so stunning.

I love that I’ve been subscribed to both.
Not only are both boxes amazing, it tickles me that they are black women owned companies. I will continue to subscribe to both as long as humanly possible. Both bring me joy because each is so well thought out. ❤️❤️

    • 🤗🤗🤗 This whole post makes me so happy, thanks MSA and everyone who participated adding to the list! 🥰😉🥰

  31. Great list! I would also like to see subscription boxes reviewed and/or curated by those who are also disabled, such as myself.

    • I would love to see that, too.

    • YES!!!

  32. It’s about time!

  33. I think you could add Journee Box to this list.

    • Thanks for recommending Journee Box – we’re getting this box added ASAP!

      • I just received my first Journee box. Wow. I love everything This company is truly awesome. They care for their subscribers. Do I recommend them you better believe it.

  34. If I’m not mistaken, I think I recall reading that MINTD is a black-owned business, by two beautiful, young sisters. So, it should also be included in this listed.

    • typo: *list not*listed. oops.

      • We appreciate you mentioning MINTD! They are now added to this list 🙂

    • Yessssss, GOAT Box, I LOVE Mintd! 🤗💃🤗

  35. I’d especially like to see the beauty boxes reviewed by more diverse reviewers – both age and ethnicity, but also clothing and lifestyle boxes, and would like to see some lgbtq representation.

    • I AGREE! Reading reviews about boxes for men, written by their wives, drives me insane. I’m sure the demo for this skews heavily female, married, older, and may not be as liberal minded, but c’mon! Spice it up a little bit! 🙂

      • I agree also.

      • Thanks for all of your feedback! We’re currently focusing on expanding our review team to include more Black writers, as well as to people of all ages, gender, and ethnicity.

    • I offered to collaborate my dog’s account for Dog boxes (he’s got a large following) and MSA never responded to my email . Liz used to respond without hours. Now, it’s crickets.
      I know it’s not the same…

Would totally love to see representation for all the boxes. Men reviews. LGBTQ reviews. BIPOC reviews. Reviews by age group? Maybe give platform to more than core team?

  36. Awesome post. I am going to support some of these right now.

    • Thanks for sharing, Christina!

  37. Jersey Shore Cosmetics is also black-owned. Their lip balms are great, & you can subscribe to them at different levels through CrateJoy.

    • Thanks for this feedback, Marion! Jersey Shore Cosmetics has been added to the list 🙂

  38. Thanks for this. I didn’t know most of these actually exist. I’d love to see a few more of these on the list reviewed.

    • Thanks, Vi! We are actively taking the next steps to make sure boxes on this list are reviewed. Let us know if there are any boxes, in particular, you’d like to see reviewed!

  39. I do also want to mention that it would be nice to see more of these reviewed and Tribe Beauty Box isn’t on here (which actually is a box you review…).

    • You beat me to it! I was just going to mention Tribe.

    • Hi JackieCupcake,
Yes! Tribe Beauty Box should definitely be on this list. I subscribed to it based on a positive MSA review.
      Hi MSA team,
Could you please consider adding Tribe (and the other boxes everyone commenting has mentioned)?

      • Thanks for all of your feedback! Tribe Beauty Box and the others mentioned have been added to this list (or are in progress to be added) and we’re actively taking the next steps to get additional boxes reviewed soon!

  40. This is great, but I’d also love to see more diversity on this site from reviewers. You have a huge audience and it would be nice to see a wider variety in not only ethnicity, but also in age, gender, etc.

    • This. More Black, Latina, and Asian women please. More women with different skin tones and different hair textures reviewing beauty boxes.

      • Hi Cat,
That would be great. I know we get a bit more diversity through the ‘Insider’ reviews, but I’m also hoping that MSA will add more WOC and Asian permanent and contract reviewers. Because I’ll feel even better about reading the thoughts of those reviewers in the knowledge they’ve been paid for their valuable insights and work!

      • Thanks for all of your feedback! We’re currently focusing on expanding our review team to include more Black writers, as well as to people of all ages, gender, and ethnicity.
