JourneeBox 'Grand Canyon' Review

Included is a highly detailed booklet with info about all of the products. This box has a Grand Canyon theme and this booklet is filled with the most pretty photos! I visited the Grand Canyon a long time ago (I think I was 12?) and I remember being absolutely floored by how vast and beautiful it was. I am excited about this theme!

Redwall Canyon Candle - Listed Value $40.00

I am usually pretty excited to get candles in boxes because I burn them constantly in our home, a habit that only intensifies as summer turns to fall. This one is downright charming! I love the ceramic vessel that looks like wood or stone. It's natural but also chic because the shame is minimal and clean. Inside is a candle scented with a blend of essential oils that are both fresh and floral, and inspired by desert cacti flower blooms. It isn't the strongest scent, but rather a soft one that does fill a room in a gentle way, catching your nose ever so often and creating a very fresh feel.

River Rapids Earrings - Listed Value $29.00

FYI: This was a customizable item! You could choose between these blue earrings or a brown rivers edge inspired pair.

I thought these were so cute the second I saw them! They were also slightly smaller than I expected, which is a good thing for my overall jewelry vibes these days. I like how the golden circle reflects the lower clay discs. The pattern was inspired by the Colorado River and these feel both natural and artsy. The clay disc feels substantial enough to not break but they feel really lightweight when worn.

So cute! (excuse my mascne!)

ADDED 10/2 - Here is a peek at the alternate earrings subscribers could have chosen instead of the item above:

These are a beautiful brown wood-grain look.

Grand Canyon H2O Bottle - Listed Value $20.00

FYI: This was a customizable item! You could choose from different colors.

Sure, I don't NEED more waterbottles. But I sure do love a cool looking one made of glass! This is smaller than I normally reach for (it hold a little over 13 fl oz) but that makes it the perfect size for stashing in my purse or filling with wine when I am painting outside in the grass AKA my very own paint 'n sip. The lid has a handy little silicone loop that you could easily attach a carabiner onto for travel.

Antimicrobial Pouch - Listed Value $39.00

FYI: This is an annual subscriber bonus gift.

While I don't think this little pouch is exactly my style to carry as a purse or wristlet, I did find a perfect use for it! I have been stashing more hand sanitizer and wet wipes in my car and it just so happens that this is a great size for that and the loop easily slips around the shifter in my car so I always have these items on hand without having to search for them in compartments or under the seats. The outer fabric is antimicrobial and the zipper is high quality. There is even an additional zipper compartment inside along with slots for cards or other smaller items. I like the subdued colors because they compliment my interior rather than compete and the subtle gold design is perfect for the theme of this box.

Arizona Wildflower Seed-Balls - Listed Value $5.00

Though it feels a little late in the season to really plant and enjoy these little seed balls, I love this addition. I have a green thumb and wildflowers are one of my many plant-related weaknesses. Simply poke a hole in the ground, pop a seed ball in, cover, and water. I will be saving these for next season but if you live in a warmer climate you could totally still get these started. I am really curious to see what sprouts since this is an Arizona mixture and a far cry from the climate of Pennsylvania. Since some of these might be non-native to PA, I plan on container growing them just to make sure the native PA flowers have a comfortable space. They are pollinator-friendly, non-GMO, and neonicotinoid free!

Canyon Sanitary Wipes, 15 wipes - Listed Value $15.00

While hand sanitizer, paper towels, and toilet paper have THANKFULLY become easy to find, hand wipes are still pretty elusive in my neighborhood. So when this pack showed up, I was pretty thrilled! Sure, it is only 15, but in my world right now that is 15 grocery store trips or 15 gas or ATM runs. So it should actually help out a lot more than the number 15 would suggest. These arrived in a resealable pouch so they are great for stashing in the car which is really the only place I keep wipes right now. They also fit just fine in the antimicrobial pouch that also arrived this quarter, so I already have the beginnings of a new car kit!

Bath Bomb Geode Duet - Listed Value $14.00

Ok, I didn't know I could love bath bombs even more than I already do, but LOOK at these! They are decked out in colorful salt crystals like proper geodes and have a very luxe-looking gold edge. They are on the smaller end compared to let's say, a LUSH bath bomb, but they don't lack for scent and beauty. The teal geode is in a black bomb and smells like jasmine and desert rose, while the lilac-topped bomb has notes of lavender and marigold. While I loved the black water that felt super edgy from the teal bomb, cleanup was a bit of work after a relaxing bath. Nothing a nice quick bath wipe down couldn't fix, but it was the last thing I wanted to do after floating in my tub for an hour. The lilac bomb created a milky white water that was less dramatic but required no clean up.

Both left my skin soft and smelling great!

Grand Canyon Sun Hat - Listed Value $39.00

I love hats but I also have a big noggin, meaning sometimes they just aren't comfortable. This one fit enough to wear, but I would have preferred more room. The diameter inside is about 22 inches, while my head is closer to 23 inches around. It is still super cute and pretty much the perfect fishing hat! Since I am pretty used to hats always being just a little too small and wearing them anyway, I can't complain here, especially since most heads are maybe a little smaller than mine. It arrived with a black satin ribbon which added a little bit of chic styling to a hat that could otherwise feel super outdoorsy.

The brim was wide enough to block the sun and look cute, but not so big that it flopped into my face.

Suede Lariat Necklace - Listed Value $68.00

FYI: This was a choice item! You could either choose this OR a white and clay vase.

My style is a lot less boho than it used to be, but I still feel a stirring whenever I see pieces like this! I love the look of the suede cord paired with the gold of the tassel and the blue beads. The length is also a good one (29 inches) since I enjoy wearing longer necklaces. If you don't, you can easily look this around a few times and shorten it easily.

I had to take a mirror pic for this because it was such a long necklace! This is it styled with a double wrap and a cute knot. It goes really well with my green top, but maybe less so with my No Face iPhone case.

ADDED 10/2 - Here is a peek at the vase subscribers could have chosen instead of the lariat above:

The clean white glaze with the natural brown is really striking!

Verdict: JourneeBox did a great job at transporting me to a Grand Canyon state of mind. This box always seems to have the most creative things! Seriously, if you are looking for a lifestyle box that is unlike most others, this is it. This is also one of those boxes that is ideal for gifting too since you could break it up into individual presets that would all be super thoughtful and unique.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? Yes, but it will likely sell out soon.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $54.99 + free shipping, which means that each of the 9 items in the box has an average cost of $6.11. I included the annual item in this calculation.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Hi all,

I received an email that because of Covid, their next box with the theme of “Zero Waste“ will be shipped in January.

They mention having a limited number of Editor’s boxes – to be made available for purchase and delivery in November.

Wondering what they will be….

I purchased an annual sub early October 2019 starting with the Fall box. Over a year later and have recieved a total of only three boxes. Got email today from Journeebox saying my sub was up for renewal and I would be charged Nov. 1 and my account erroneously states I have already received all four boxes of my annual. Have really enjoyed this sub, but the account problems have been frustrating as I had emailed customer service about this matter twice many months ago and was assured it would be corrected to reflect that I was due one more box after receipt of the Grand Canyon box. Would suggest anyone that purchased a annual last fall check that their account information is correct.

Is Journee Box still going to have 4 boxes this year? I know as a small business this year must have been really challenging, so I’m really just curious! (And, okay, champing at the bit for more spoilers for my favorite box soon…💕)

Wait I lied I just saw the spoiler for the next box (via email, I don’t know that it’s public yet) and I’m SO EXCITED!! How is this box always so good.

I have been with Journee Box since the first box and they never fail to WOW me. I have quit all other sub boxes. The quality of every item and the impeccable curation is absolutely of no comparison and on top of that, they have the best customer service of any sub box. Thank you, Kevia and staff for yet another adventurous and completely lovely Journee!

I used to live and work on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and the items in this box don’t really represent the “Grand Canyon: – other than the booklet with the pictures of the Canyon and Colorado River. Not sure what happened here but this box doesn’t do any justice in translating the Canyon. Even the jewelry is a miss. And I’m confused by the wipes, water bottle and sun hat !? These are generic items that could be used anywhere USA. I wonder if the person/people who curated this box have been to the Grand Canyon ?

When the spoilers came out, I wasn’t so excited. But when it arrived, holy moly! I love this box. I used to live in Oregon and there was a store called Kevia, don’t know if it’s the same, but they were very high quality as well.

On the seeds…. if you got your pamphlet it gives you information on the site. When you visit the site, you discovered it is a woman owned business and you can plant this wildflowers all year round! Even in the snow.

Read the pamphlet, check the site 🙂

I signed up for this box during an online ordering/subscription binge I went on soon after COVID-19 started. It was delayed for so long that I was almost over it by the time it came.

CON: I planted the seed balls in a raised bed, a container, and in a patch of bare ground while it was still consistently warm here, and nothing has grown.

I took the silicone sleeve off to wash the bottle because some cardboard scraps were trapped between the sleeve and the bottle — now I can’t get the sleeve back on.

Box was smashed.

PRO: Nothing inside the box was damaged.

The earrings and candle are attractive and useful.

Wipes smell nice and subtle, have enough alcohol to be effective, and fit in my glove compartment.

I have a large head, and the hat I got fit perfectly. First time a one-size women’s hat has ever worked for me.

The bath bombs look lovely. I wasn’t ever planning to use them myself since my plumbing is old and temperamental, but will give the amethyst one to my daughter to enjoy in her garden tub. The teal one matches my bathroom decor, so I’ll keep it displayed on a shelf there.

I can’t say enough good things about that lariat! I ordered it in pink, and it’s one of the most beautiful pieces of jewelry I’ve ever owned. That one thing is worth the entire price of the box for me.

Customer service was great (and I nagged them a lot — they stayed courteous and helpful).

Hi Irene,

The seeds balls won’t germinate until the spring. You can plant them now. Also, the flowers are all non-invasive species. Some of the mixes are not recommended for some states, but the selection I picked is safe nation-wide.

Enjoy,
Kevia

Push the lid back down with force, my daughter keeps pulling hers and that’s how I fixed it

I am torn with this box. On one hand, I like the items, like the curation. However, all items are on cheap side. Even bath bombs are made in China. My previous box jewelry turn black and I had to throw them away, I am afraid this will be the case for this earrings.
Like the idea to put wine to the bottle, because it is definitely too small for water.

The Spirited Away phone case is what my eyes went for! So glad you also mentioned it, even if it isn’t a perfect match lol. Fellow Studio Ghilbli fan!
The box is better than I initially thought too lol, but I just had to comment over the phone case!

I am seasonal and received my box a little over two weeks ago. While I love the box and the contents I felt a little disappointed. The hat was very cute, but won’t get used till next summer as it is already very much fall where I live. And the bath bomb while gorgeous were a terrible mess. The one turned the tub, my hair, and me black and I only stayed in for less than 5 minutes as it was that immediate. The cleaning took forever. Honestly I did not think communication of the delays was great. I only saw on here the email and had to ask to be sent emails in future. I understand things happen, but it could of been better. Especially when they didn’t even ship on the day they told us they would in the message.

I am a seasonal subscriber and picked my items forever ago. I haven’t heard or seen a thing! What is going on here.

I really loved this box and its curation, even though a few of the items wound up not being my taste. I think the hat must have a lot of size variance – i have a GIANT head and a lot of hair and mine was slightly big. I know that doesn’t help anyone making a decision as to whether to get this but wanted to put it out there. I used to be a sub box fanatic and now I’m down to just Journee box and continue to be so pleased with it. They send out surveys to actually find out what their customers want, not to try to lure more people in with promises of things that never appear, and I’m very excited for the next box!

This review does not contain the vase option, which was an alternative to the lariat. In my opinion, this was one of the real winners of the box. With this next to the candle, you can really see the southwest theme coming together. It’s beautiful!

Reply ButtonReply

Cassie

I have to agree! I actually picked a lariat over the vase, but was sent the vase instead. I was super disappointed at first but tbh, it’s gorgeous and I’ve been using it endlessly since it arrived. Can’t say the same for all the other items, so I’m happy for the mix up! Made the box for me

I had the same thought/worry about the seed bombs! I’m sure Kevia wouldn’t accidentally send us invasive species, but it would be great to have a little information about where they are and aren’t safe to “guerilla” plant!

For now though, probably just going to plant mine in containers, since we’re getting into winter now anyway. Going to try out a few inside and then save a couple for spring!

I am a seasonal subscriber and have yet to receive this box. I placed my customization order in mid-July and received an email that said the box would ship within 2-5 days. After a few weeks, I asked customer service about it and was told the box would ship in mid-August. After a few weeks, I asked again and was told it would *happen this week!* Which, it did not. So, I am at a loss. Have other seasonal subscribers gotten their boxes?

Customer Service

Hi,

Please call the office, the only reason for delay at this point is an issue with the subscription or customization. We will take care you if you have not yet received your box.

Best,

Kevia

I’m torn! On the one hand, my initial reaction was “Wow, I wish I’d subscribed.” Then I realized I don’t need another hat (though this one is definitely nicer than my other ones), I don’t need wildflowers to plant in 6 months, I definitely don’t need a bathtub cleaning project, don’t need another candle, and my ears aren’t pierced. So I don’t need this, right? But then there’s want . . . 🙂

I haven’t subscribed yet because this quarter didn’t fit my personal taste but this box is so beautifully curated! The booklet was so well done that I read the whole thing from your review and I never do that. I would love those bath bombs though, they are almost too pretty to use. I can’t wait to see where Journeybox takes us in Winter!

I skipped yet it mailed anyways. I sent an email last Friday and again today asking for a return label, it is due Monday. I’m very surprised I never got a response on my Friday email since they could have stopped shipment since it left today.

I can’t reply directly to Ashleigh, but I was sent two boxes too. I emailed them and offered to ship it back and they sent me a label. It seems like it was a day or two before they responded initially though.

Ashleigh

I was inadvertently sent two boxes and I sent customer service an email to let them know so that I could return one. Over a week later I haven’t heard back – it’s going to work out well for my mom.

Same! Honestly, I saw so many over-the-top comments on MSA in the spoilers that I thought they must be fake. Now, I’m not so sure… Thanks for the review, Megan. I think I’ll be getting the next one.

I think the Journee Box team just really knows how to attract and keep engaged subscribers! I’ve personally just never been as impressed with a company as I am with this one. I think part of it is that even when things are a miss, they handle it so kindly! Like the shipping or supply issues this time around.

Definitely definitely subscribe, seriously I’ve never loved a sub box more than this one.

Carissima

Loved the box but the hat won’t fit at all! I’ve never had this issue with hats from pop sugar or Fab Fit Fun so disappointed in the sizing. I didn’t think I had a unusually big head until trying on this hat!
