Sensory TheraPlay Box August 2020 Review

We received this one-page insert which includes photos of our items on the front with brief descriptions of them along with their retail values on the back. They have included their contact information as well as a disclaimer about how it is the responsibility of the adult to determine whether the items included are appropriate for the child. As someone with a Special Education background, I love that they include this since every child is unique and responds to various stimuli in different ways! There are some items that may not be appropriate for every child depending on those needs.

They always send a little motivational card each month.

Scribble Scrubbie Pets - Retail Value $10.02, Listed Value $10.49

We were actually just recently introduced to these toys and my kids were super excited to have two new animals to color! These little toys have a coating that you can draw on with the included markers and then scrub off with water and the little brush. This set includes two cute dogs.

I added some color so you can see how it works and then my two-year-old enjoyed scrubbing him clean for me. This is such a great fine motor activity that also allows for a little creativity! You can color on these animals over and over again and I'm sure you could add some variation to their play by using squirt or spray bottles to clean them off!

Moon Crater Explorers - Retail Value $6.00, Listed Value $7.99

This is another cool toy that will be great for fine motor skills! This squishy ball comes with two little astronauts that you can push into the various holes around the moon and pull back out. It takes some work to maneuver them in since the rubbery material sticks together a little bit, but it's not so bad that kids will get frustrated. My kids were super excited to play with this one and have had a lot of fun. Plus, the ball glows in the dark which always adds to the fun!

Shaggy Nee Doh - Retail Value $4.99, Listed Value $3.99

I love the little squishy toys from this company and this one is pretty fun! Inside it has the same squishy shaving cream type material but the outside has this shaggy "hair" for a completely different texture. The little pieces are fun to run over your hands and you can even pull and stretch them a bit if you wanted. This toy is recommended for managing anxiety or improving focus.

Jeliku Puzzle Fidget - Retail Value $5.95

This toy is really unique! It comes in this flat square but it unfolds and folds over and over to make various shapes. They included instructions to show how you can make into a phone or tablet holder or watch display among other things. It's fun to play with and certainly something that I've never seen before! It's fun to manipulate and there is a bit of a challenge in trying to fold it into something new.

Scrub Bugs - Retail Value $15.99, Listed Value $9.99

This is another unique item and as a mom of three young children, I appreciated this cute bug that can help get their hands extra clean! This adorable bug features two different textures on the bottom; there are some tiny bristles and then a spongy section for two very different textures. It can clean the crevasses of their little hands well and even get under their fingernails. Even if you don't use it specifically for washing, it is fun to touch and play with because of those different textures.

Toysmith Liquid Motion Bubbler - Retail Value $12.99 (found here for $6.37), Listed Value $8.00

We love calming sensory timers like this one! They are great for time outs and breaks and work especially well to calm kids as they watch the colors and bubbles slowly drip from the top. I love that this one has two different colors inside and it's a nice compact size that is easy to throw in a backpack or keep on your desk. They suggest using this one for transitions from one activity to the next which I think is a great idea!

Verdict: I thought there were some really great items in this month's Sensory TheraPlay box that will be great for fine motor skills, calming tools, or sensory fidgets. The scrub bug was really cool as was the Jeliku puzzle and my kids really loved the moon explorers and sensory timer. Scribble Scrubbies were also a huge hit! The listed values were sort of all over the place but since I was able to find retail values for everything I came up with a total of $55.94 which isn't bad for a $48.22 ($39.95 + $8.27 shipping) that included some really unique finds. While the retail value is never anything amazing with this box, it always brings us a lot of joy each month!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
