Bombay & Cedar Limited Edition Spring/Summer 2020 Box Review

The box comes with a booklet of information that lists out the products and a short description along with the retail value.

Luxe Shower Cap by KITSCH - Retail Value $24.00

You could have received this item, a Micro-Fiber Hair Towel, Satin Pillowcase with Eye Mask, or a Satin Pillowcase with Hair Accessories Set by KITSCH.

I don't wash my hair every day so shower caps are a must! This cap is a major step-up from the current cap I have been using. I received the black-and-white stripe print with this incredible bow in the front that feels very posh for a shower cap. The material is water-resistant with an elastic band to allow a nice stretch to fit most heads. I have a lot of hair, like, I'm not just saying that because it is long, it is also curly and super thick, so I have to admit that I struggled a bit to get this on. Twisting my hair into it, moving it to keep everything covered, while still fitting the cap on my head was a challenge. Once I got everything situated though, the cap worked great! My hair wasn't slipping out and the cap stays in place nicely so you know you aren't going to have a chunk of hair fall out and get wet. The fit is on the tighter side, but I am hoping that it will stretch out a bit after a few uses so that its not as snug over my ears. Other than that, I love feeling so fancy when taking a shower!

Atlantis Shampoo & Conditioner Set by R+Co, 8.5 fl oz each - Retail Value $58.00

You could have received this item in Dallas or Atlantis.

I was so excited to receive the Atlantis set! This set is enriched with B5 to provide your hair with intense hydration and is vegan and cruelty-free. The scent is very earthy and clean made with Bergamot, Wild Fig, Cyclamen, Lotus Flower, Cedarwood, Tonka Beans. The main ingredients in this set are Pro-Vitamin B (coats your hair and adds a natural shine), Prickly Pear Stem Extract (hydrates your hair and scalp), Glycerin (helps hair retain moisture), and Nettle Extract (for shine and taming frizz). I have incredibly dry curly hair so I am always on the lookout for shampoo and conditioner that actually work. The shampoo was pretty good, but I wish it lathered a bit better to give me more of a squeaky clean feel. I will say though that I don't wash my hair every day so I do look for a nice clean in my shampoo, and with my hair being so thick I need something that I can lather up and really work through my hair to get it clean. I was able to get it clean with two washes, though! Now the conditioner was beyond amazing!!! It is so thick and creamy, my hair just drank it up! I was able to get through my hair nicely and it left me with incredibly smooth curl definition. I would say if you have curly hair that needs extra hydration, this is the set for you!

Muscle Relief Roll-On by Bombay & Cedar, 10 mL - Listed Value $19.00

I am constantly on my feet running after my kids and I try to work out once a day so I am usually sore in one area or another every day. Maybe I am just getting old, hahaha! This little muscle relief roll-on sounded pretty amazing to me when I opened it as I was just telling my husband how badly my feet have been hurting. The scent of the oil is very minty and fresh; it really awakens my senses when I use it! It is made with black seed oil, wintergreen, frankincense, basil, and peppermint essential oils. All you have to do is apply the roll-on directly to wherever you are feeling muscle soreness like your neck, legs, arms, or back. I have been using this a lot on my feet and doing a little massage with it as well. I can't say that I have noticed a huge difference in my soreness when using this, but I think it is a very relaxing self-care process to use and massage. My husband is loving it as well, maybe because he is also getting a nice foot massage from me with it!

Aloe Retinol Serum by SKIN CHEMISTS, 1.01 fl oz - Listed Value, $39.00, Retail Value $29.99

Give me all of the facial serums! This aloe and retinol-based serum is aimed to target fine lines and wrinkles. Aloe is great to help with acne, dry skin, and of course sunburns, while retinol is made with vitamin A to boost the amount of collagen in your body. Retinol can also help to even skin tone and reduce age spots. Retinol is a bit more of a heavy-duty product, so I would recommend using this first on a patch of your skin to ensure that you don't experience any extreme redness or breakouts. Once you know your skin can handle it, the box recommends using this twice a day, applying 2 to 3 drops to clean skin. I have been using this serum at night and am loving how my skin is looking. I did feel slightly dry after the first few days I started using this, but that quickly went away. Now I am left with a smooth finish to my skin with light plumpness that you will experience with a collagen boost. I can't wait to see the long-term impacts that this serum will have on my overall skin appearance!

Soothing Salt Soak by MERSEA, 6 oz. - Retail Value $12.00

I have been trying to make more of an effort this year to use my beautiful bathtub. Along with the overall stress this year has brought, I have found myself needing some "me" time more, and have found baths to be a wonderful escape to take time to reflect on my family's day and stay away from my phone for a bit. This soak is amazing because it naturally relieves muscle aches while nourishing your skin. The scent is floral without being overpowering in a heavy perfume sort of way and has hints of wood and green like I would get from being in the woods. I also love that this comes in a resealable bag, making it super easy to store and use over and over!

Anti-Wrinkle + Energizing Under Eye Mask by Grace & Stella, set of 24 - Retail Value $34.00

Eye masks are seriously the best! No matter what age you are, we all have those days where our under eyes could use a little hydration! It can be from not sleeping great, being up late binging a new show, or maybe you had a bit too much wine; I can relate to them all, but all of these factors can show in your under eye area the next day. That is why I seriously love receiving masks like this! This box comes with 24 eye packs, and they work wonders, plus they are vegan, cruelty-free, and paraben-free. The patches themselves are very comfortable to wear and easy to apply; I usually set them on while I have my morning coffee before my kids get up. Made with vitamin C, plant-based collagen, rose oil, and hyaluronic acid, these masks firm and hydrate.

TokyoMilk Soap Bar by Margot Elena, 8 oz - Retail Value $12.00

This bar of soap is so beautiful! From the packaging to the bar itself, I am just in love with this! The bar I received is made with shea butter to leave skin silky smooth and smells of green apple, Japanese bamboo, vetiver, and white musk. I have this sitting pretty on display in my master bathroom in a vintage soap dish that I have never used before, but found this bar to be the perfect fit for it. I know that I will use this one day, but for right now I am enjoying how pretty it is and how nicely it fills my bathroom with a rich floral scent!

Body Massager by Bioswiss - Listed Value $12.00

You could have received this or a hand massager.

This is hands down my most-used item of the month so far! Like I said before, I am constantly experiencing sore muscles as is my husband. This little body massager fits in the palm of my hand nicely, making it easy to go as light or hard as I want to relieve soreness. The massager works to stimulate pressure points to increase blood flow to the area, allowing for more circulation which then helps to relieve soreness and stiffness. I have been using this all over my hips, legs, feet, back, and it really works! I have been keeping it on my nightstand so I can do a light massage before going to bed or in the AM when I really get tight, and it has helped me so much already! I think I need like 5 more of these to keep all over my house, hahaha!

Live Well Gift Set by Modern Sprout - Retail Value $50.00 (currently out of stock)

Lavender Bamboo Grow Kit
Sleep Mask
Pillow Spray, 2 fl oz.
Soy-Blend Candle, 6.8 oz.

Wow, we actually received a gift box within this month's box! What a treat! I don't know about you all, but I have been browsing the Modern Sprout site a ton lately because these sets would make the perfect gifts from Christmas, to Mother's Day, to birthdays! I received the Unwind box that is inspired by garden-aromatherapy tools to help create a serene and soothing resting place.

I am obsessed with the fact that this box contains a Lavender Bamboo kit which comes with a full passive hydroponic system, plus non-GMO lavender seeds. The directions are easy to follow, and the container is so chic. I am slightly nervous about my seeds because the directions said they flourish in temperatures no higher than 75 degrees, but we are currently in the 90s most days where I am. However, it said that they can be planted between March and September, so I hope with some care I will get some lavender. Have you all planted your lavender? Give me some growing tips in the comments!

The sleep mask is made of 100% cotton, has an elastic band to keep the mask in place while giving you complete coverage. I use a sleep mask every night so I was really excited to receive this! It is super soft and breathable, so it doesn't make me extra hot at night. Plus, I love the sophisticated pattern!

Now for the pillow spray! This little bottle is made with lavender, citrus, cedarwood, and ylang-ylang essential oils. You can spray it on your linens or around your room to create a calming aroma that is perfect to help you relax and sleep! I am in love with this spray because our dog sleeps in our bed during the day, so we always have that sort of dog smell which I don't love. I have been spraying this on our entire bed in the AM and PM and it really helps! Plus, it creates this amazing lavender smell that you can just fall into. I also started using the spray on our family room couch and pillows, honestly, my house has never smelled better. Now if only the spray would create a calm for my children!

Finally, we received a soy-blend candle that is made with orange blossoms, lavender, and cedarwood. This box really speaks to me because most of the items have lavender and cedarwood in them and those are probably my two favorite scents! You have the masculine mixed with the feminine that really does help to relax me. The candle burns nicely, filling my entire master bedroom and bath to help bring a tranquil environment at bedtime. This set has it all and felt so special; what a great way to round out this amazing box!

Verdict: This box had it all! When you get a limited edition box, you really want it to be filled with items that feel special and unique while still being products you can use in your day to day life. For me personally, I felt this box brought all of that and then some! With an estimated retail value of around $250.99, it also comes with an amazing value for the $95 cost per box. I can't say that I often see muscle soreness relief products in boxes, but I was so happy and blown away that we received two of those items. Self-care is not just about beauty products, but we need to tend to the entire package that is our body! I have been using the body massager and roll-on daily! The shampoo and conditioner set was another favorite since the intense hydration blend is making my summer dry hair, soft and smooth again. The Aloe Retinol Serum is another magic wand in the beauty realm that I didn't know I needed; I always thought I was still a bit young for retinol, but the proof is in the smooth and even tone of my skin right now. I did need it. The Live Well Gift Set was just the icing on an already amazing cake, giving us a box within the box. I am using all of my Unwind items to help create a calming space in my bedroom, which I really appreciate receiving right now since the stress of life can really impact my sleep. All of the products felt thoughtfully curated with special attention on quality! This box would make a stellar gift for yourself or to a friend that loves discovering new cruelty-free brands. You honestly can't go wrong here!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this limited edition box if you order today? Sadly, this box is currently sold out.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $95, which means that each of the 9 items in the box has an average cost of $10.55.

As much as I usually love Bombay and Cedar boxes this box just doesn’t interest me. The only thing I like is the shower cap. It’s really cute.

What a bummer I missed this box. I especially would love the lavender/sleeping mask/room spray/candle set. Great review Taryn, thank you.

I usually buy all LE Bombay and Cedar boxes, but I had to miss this one out due to finances. I do not regret it after having read the review. The only interesting item for me is the Modern Sprout kit, but it’s not worth the cost of the box.

PLEASE double check the oils to make sure they are pet safe. Some can be very dangerous when absorbed through their coats and paws. Just because it is safe for humans, doesn’t mean it isn’t toxic to animals. Thanks!

Surprised no one discusses G & S does the same as DLS, though they openly admit it.

Alice

Indeed. It’s being discussed on reddit. These eye masks were also in my Boxycharm July.

I’m guessing G & S stands for grace and stella… the rest is a mystery.

MrsLittle

This looks like some kind of code…what does it mean?

Stephanie

Grace and Stella are just like dirty little secrets in that they buy their stuff off Alibaba, repackage it and sell it. Yes, they’re open about what they do unlike DLS which lies to its customers and say they formulate their own products. I’m just surprised people aren’t boycotting this brand like DLS. G & S is cheap manufactured junk made in China with goodness knows what.

Jill

I believe Grace and Stella (G&S) and Dirty Little Secret (DLS). They buy really cheap products online (from Ali baba or places like that), repackage//brand them, and then sell them for much more. Ipsy stopped working with DLS after it became a big thing. DLS also has several other brands, like Greg Aucoyn (sp?) and…some others I forget. Grace and Stella were apparently up front about it but DLS was not, till it all came out.

Angel

G & S is Grace and Stella.
DLS is Dirty Little Secret. DLS was started by Emanuela DeFalco. DeFalco runs multiple cosmetics companies which buy super cheap products through Alibaba, rebrand, and sell. Latest big scandal I think was the Faccia 24k gold moisturizer BoxyCharm fiasco, where that moisturizer was touted as having a retail value of $100+, but came from Alibaba for I think $1.70.
With all that being said, I absolutely adore Bombay & Cedar. They are one of my favorite boxes. I give the majority of my sub box eye masks to my husband. I’ve given him multiple Grace & Stella ones, and he doesn’t have a problem with them.

Caroline

I think they’re saying Grace and Stella is a rip-off of something. Doing know what though.

jeannette

I have no idea what you are referring to.

It looks like some of the items are available in the seasonal sale that’s going on through Friday. I wanted the shampoo/conditioner set, but it apparently sold out already :-(.

Wow. This was a fantastic box. Great review!

Bummer that this is sold out 🙁 The site lists the price as $119 not $95.

Joan

$119 is the correct price. At one point they offered a promo $15 off ($104) and a free gift to purchase it early, before any spoilers were released. It was a great box!
