Quirky Crate August 2020 Review

Quirky Crate samples one item from a featured artist or brand each month. This month features the creative design business, Sam Jayne Design. This info card gives you some insight into her company as well as her social media info.

On the flipside, Quirky Crate includes an itemized list of each product and its value. This month's theme is "Pastel Party!"

Time to get quirky!

Elephant Socks - Listed Value $9

I have an impressive collection of Quirky Crate‘s socks; they are my favorites! I love the random colors and designs and often cute animals or pop culture references found on each pair. This month features a coral pair of socks with adorable elephants all over them. They are a shorter and thinner style than usual, which makes them perfect inside slip-on shoes or to wear around the house.

Fama Lam Nail Stickers - Listed Value $6 (Buy here for $7.15)

Nail wraps are an awesome and easy way to amp up your manicure, and even though I might be a little old for nail stickers, I still really enjoy a statement nail or two. The sloth and llama designs are charming, and who could resist the random doodle patterns on the nail wraps. The wraps are unlike any I have tried before. They are thick and the texture is soft, like a bandage. The adhesive stuck right away, but I can tell these will be flopping around, especially after washing my hands 40x a day.

Not my best work, as far as manicures go, but it is definitely fun to look down at. The stickers smelled faintly of pineapples, but the smell dissipated shortly after application.

Ice Cream Truck Purse - Listed Value $38

This bag is adorable! It is a little young for me, but I can't wait to see the look on my friend's daughter's face when I pass this on to her. She is going to love the hot pink details, especially the puff! She is also very into holo at the moment, so this bag is sure to rock her world. It is the perfect size to tote all of a 5-year-old's necessities, which may include a few Bratz dolls and her "yipgloss."

NPW Sloth Predictor Pen - Listed Value $6

I can only dream of living a sloth's lifestyle, especially with a teething 10-month-old! This pen spins every time you click it, landing on one of a sloth's go-to hobbies. Most of them refer to sleeping, which is predictable, however, I wasn't expecting to see "slowly comb hair" as an activity, but hey, sloths are all about self-care. The blue ink glides seamlessly across the paper, and it is generally very comfortable to hold.

Caboodle Enamel Pin - Listed Value $10

Quirky Crate kills it with its pin designs every month. I absolutely love the nostalgia a Caboodle evokes, especially in this classic purple and green shades. This pin fits this month's Pastel Party theme to a T! It has two pinbacks to keep it straight, fitting perfectly on the collar of my jean jacket.

Bubble Sheet Mask - Listed Value $3

SOKO Ready's Bubble Sheet Mask is meant to exfoliate and cleanse your skin. I applied this to my face, and it started bubbling immediately. This sheet mask smells like a delicious grapefruit! I left it on for 8 minutes and rinsed the product off after removing the bubbled sheet. Bubble sheets never seem to work like other types of masks do for my skin, but I noticed my skin was a little red after rinsing. I am hoping to wake up to a beautiful, purified complexion!

Sam Jayne Art Print - Listed Value $15

I needed this print. It is an inclusive nod to what we all long for in 2020: peace! The bright pink background is the perfect backdrop to flatter each skin tone, and the nail colors and midi rings add a modern, feminine touch. The print has a glossy finish and measures 6"x9". It is printed on a thick sheet of paper, so it could either be framed and hung or propped for display.

Ice Cream Coin Purse - Listed Price $6

My favorite local ice cream shop has a raspberry cone that looks exactly like this... all of a sudden my mouth is watering? Who doesn't love a novelty coin purse shaped like a treat! At this size, this silicone purse could hold many coins, but I think I will be using it as memento storage. I am a collector of nostalgia, so this can hold my son's first movie ticket or maybe even his first lost tooth!

The Verdict: August's Quirky Crate was a huge success. I can't wait to gift the purse and sport my new Caboodle pin! The trinkets you'll find in Quirky Crate make fantastic and unique gifts, and they are also so much fun to accessorize with. The total value of this box adds up to $93, over double the $36.95 + $6.50 shipping subscription cost. Out of all of my many subscriptions, I have the most fun unboxing QC, making it worth every penny each month; I cannot wait to see what next month's Halloween themed box has in store!

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

FULL SPOILERS
for SEPTEMBER:

– Spell book purse
– Wind-up Chattering Teeth socks
– Alien pen
– Black cat beanie
– Spooky eye bracelet
– Ring Pop glitter enamel pin
– “Killing It” butcher knife sticker

The purse is smelly, so I’m airing it out right now. It has a higher quality feel to it — slightly pebbled — than the other Quirky Crate purses I have that are usually straight-up vinyl. Has magnetic snaps, no zipper, & 1 small inner pocket.

The beanie is so cute — embroidered nose & whiskers on the brim, & little ears on top.

Not super enthused by the Ring Pop pin; it’s a little boring for a Halloween box, IMO.

The scary eye bracelet is meh. Looks & feels cheap; may be fun to wear a couple times. The best part about it for me is that the irises of the eyes are pretty close to my eye color.

The alien pen is also not necessarily Halloween-ish, IMO, but it is right up my alley & has a thicker, rubbery grip that seems pretty ergonomic to me, so no complaints here!

The only item I actually dislike is the socks. Again, I don’t feel like chattery wind up teeth are really selling ~Halloween~ to me, and frankly the socks are just not cute, IMO. Hopefully they will bring others a lot of joy!

I bought this sub for my quirky fashion loving 14 year old and she loves it! She loves getting new socks every month, as those are a big fav and she loves all things retro 80’s and 90’s, so the caboodle was just her jam….and the purses are always a hit! I hesitated getting the sub for her because I thought she might get sick of the purses each month….but they turned out to be one of her favorite parts!

I am in love with this crate! I have paid stupid prices for quirky Betsey Johnson bags. They are the same quality as these cuties. I always end up gifting too many if the items wishing I’d kept them lol. That caboodle pin has been in and out of mybfift pile 4 times

That Caboodle pin!!!

Ok, I need that pen. Also, I totally agree about the print. I usually don’t really like it when a box includes a print as part of its value. But, I agree, peace is so needed these days. I love it!

Ok the price of all the items except the purse seem on point, but 38.00 for that purse is insane and IMO unbelievable,I would never pay that amount….As for the subscription it is cute and so are the items.

Those nail wraps sound… uh… special.

They emailed me a spoiler that the purse in the “spooky” September box will be a magic spellbook, with a 15% off code. How could I resist?!

Take the purse’s listed value with a giant grain of salt—I found the same one on AliExpress for $10. I do like that they work with indie artists though. Just wish they wouldn’t inflate their purse values so much!

This will be the perfect subscription for my almost 12 year old niece for her birthday. I’ve been putting together monthly boxes for her for many years and will finally be switching over to Quirky Crate. She is a young 12 and will get a kick out of the cute items.
