Our Subscription Box Favorites for May!
We’ve started a new monthly post highlighting our favorite discoveries from subscription boxes! Here are our favorite items from the past month:
The Item: Tarte Shape Tape Hydrating Foundation, Porcelain
The Cost: $39
Why I love it: I am SO glad Tarte’s newest foundation formula, the Shape Tape Foundation was included in their recent create-your-own kit event (both the hydrating and the matte finishes) because I’ve heard SO much about their Shape Tape concealer. I have dry skin so I grabbed the hydrating formula and it’s moisturizing, lightweight, and buildable. I’m thrilled with it because I think it may be one of the most perfect matches to my skin tone that I’ve ever found in a foundation (very challenging because I’m pale and neutral-toned). Also, I’ve worn it consistently since I got this and it wears really well when I’m running around outside after my kids or on walks or anytime I work up a light sweat in this Summer heat. Once my face dries, you’d never know that happened by looking at the foundation. I mean maybe a little, but it doesn’t smear or melt and the finish and evenness have stayed almost completely while running around in the Summertime.

The Item: Livia Tank Dress in Bloom Print by Cooper & Ella, Size 2x
The Cost: $124.00
Why I love it: I love vivid colors and this dress has a unique color palette! How often do you see baby pink, coral, yellow, black, royal blue, red, seafoam, and white all together? I absolutely adore it! This dress has such a retro vibe with a modern twist that I can’t get enough of. I feel like a redheaded Annette Funicello in this get-up! I am definitely packing it for my upcoming vacation to wear while sipping on Chi-Chis at the Kona Club! My honorable mention this month is for the Cati Knotted Slide Sandal in Gold from Shoedazzle that I styled along with this stunning dress!

The Cost: $16.00
Why I love it: I’ve been using these tempered glass baby food storage cubes non-stop since receiving them in my BumpBoxes! I love that individual portions can be filled and kept in the freezer for meal times. I just leave one cube out on the counter in the morning to thaw. Super durable, convenient, and dishwasher safe!

The Item: Balade en Provence Apple Hand Cream (1 fl oz)
The Cost: $12
Why I Love It: I don’t necessarily seek out vegan or natural products, but if I receive them in a subscription box I will give them a try. I have high expectations for hand cream as hand dryness is a particular problem of mine. This one is thick (but not too thick) and effective and, after several weeks of use, the light fragrance has not irritated my skin. As a bonus, this smells just like apple (it’s not a fake or cloying smell, but rather a light and pleasant and authentic scent) and the packaging is super cute. (They also make a pear hand cream that I think I’m going to have to try now…)

The Item: Cause & Effect Joan Of Arc/Devendra Banhart 7″ Record
The Cost: $10.00
Why I love it: Joan of Arc is one of my favorite bands and the main reason I know about Joyful Noise. This 7″ is limited edition and really collectible for superfans like me since it’s only available through this singles series. Both songs are magical and receiving this mystery record made my month!
The Cost: $20.00
Why I love it: Sleep masks are very much my thing and this one is made of ridiculously soft silk and blocks out all light comfortably too allow me more shut-eye.

The Item: Sparkle On Lariat
The Cost: No Listed Value
Why I Love it: This is just the perfect necklace for any look. Sparkle yet subtle, it gives some oomph to a simple t-shirt or adds a touch of elegance to a sundress. Plus, it’s adjustable so you can have it hit just right with any neckline.
The Item: Hot Wheels Glow Wheels Sandivore
Why I love it: This has been our favorite subscription box lately! My three-year-old is way into cars and is having a moment with Hot Wheels in particular… he loves sorting them out and making little collections of them, playing with them on the tracks, getting them stuck in Play-Doh “mud puddles”, and all kinds of other silly things. Even though we originally were frustrated with this car because it didn’t fit on the track, it’s one of the ones he keeps coming back to and finding other ways to play with.

Jessica Hapak’s Favorites:
Asking me to pick just one item is mean and I won’t do it. I can, however, narrow down all of the lovely things I received in the month of May to two items:
The Item: Pleasant Run Farms Candle Company Contentment Candle, 4 oz
The Cost: $8
Why I love it: This candle is scented with sandalwood, vanilla, and fresh cut grass, and when I burn it I feel like it makes my entire apartment smell clean and zen. After burning this candle just once I reached out to the company to see if they had any extras. They did, I bought them all, and I also nabbed a few candles in other scents too (like Orange + Chili Pepper). The clean burning wood wicks are just the perfecting finishing touch to these candles.
The Cost: $9.99
Why I love it: If a subscription box item brings my nose joy it is probably going to be one of my favorite items of the month— and this plumeria nectar bar of soap smells like a tropical heaven. This time last year I was in Hawaii, and I miss it! I received many tropical scented goodies this month, but this one was my favorite. If I smell it when I close my eyes I am transported back to Hawaii. This soap smells so good that I adore it even though I usually stay far, far away from bar soaps.

The Item: dr botanicals Moroccan Rose Superfood Facial Oil, 1.01oz
The Cost: $52.33 (£39)
Why I Love It: This facial oil is the best. It’s lightly scented and absorbs quickly. I don’t usually use facial oils, but this one is not heavy or oily. I didn’t know what to expect since I don’t use facial oils, but I was impressed at how moisturizing, and lightweight the facial oil was on my skin. I didn’t notice a difference in my skin except for it keeping my skin hydrated.

The Item: Carved Opalite Skull
The Cost: Listed Value $18
Why I love it: This carved skull was a gorgeously unique item that fits my personality so well! This is easily something I could see buying for myself, so to receive in a box felt like a friend had personally picked it out for me. The opalite is absolutely beautiful; photos don’t do it justice, but it looks like it’s lit from the inside with rainbow-colored fire. So magical-looking! It looks amazing on my vanity, but I swear I keep finding places where it would also look great all around the house.

The Item: Fairytale Brownies – Original 3oz
The Cost: Buy 12 for $45
Why I love it: It might seem a bit silly to choose a brownie as my favorite item for this month, but this brownie was sooooo good that I’ve been craving another one ever since! The rich, chocolate taste from the Belgian chocolate they use makes this such a decadent treat! It’s made from a secret family recipe and I think I’d pay good money for that recipe so I could eat these all the time! I loved that the box encouraged me to take a little break and enjoy my snack, which is exactly what I did.

The Item: Marguerite Beaded Bracelet
The Cost: $44.99
From: My Meraki Box
Why I love it: I love this versatile sodalite bracelet for both it’s beauty as well as it’s mineral healing properties. This stone is thought to encourage rational thought, bring emotional balance, and help to balance the metabolism – among other amazing things. Even if only one of those things is true – I’m happy to wear this bracelet for it alone! Not to mention it goes with almost any casual outfit, and I keep layering it with some of my other crystal favorites and jeans for easy, fun summer looks.

The Item: The Icon Rollerball Pen
The Cost: $17.90
Why I love it: Having this pen makes me feel on-point, literally. It is simple yet so stylish. I love the weight of the pen and the way the pen writes. I don’t dare keep it on my desk but keep it with me in my purse to whip out should I ever require a pen – and to show it off. When the ink runs out, I am sure I will be purchasing a refill (sold for $2.90)!
