BarkBox is a monthly subscription box for dogs. It’s one of our favorite subscription boxes – our dog loves it, and we’ve gifted it to dogs in our extended family as well!

BarkBox customizes your box to your dog’s size. For reference, this review is for the small size (our dog weighs 14 pounds). Check out Ragan's most recent review of the super chewer box!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

May 2018 Barkbox Review

The May 2018 BarkBox Subscription Box was themed: Age of the Furaoh. Your items might differ from ours - but we typically get two toys, two bags of treats, and a chew.

They always include a card. On here, you'll see variations of toys your pup could have received - accompanied, typically, by some type of social media contest.

The inspector was ready for review!

Sahara Sam the Camel - Value $12

The first toy is a rope/plush hybrid toy featuring Sam the Camel.

It's made with t-shirt rope, which is better if a dog swallows it - but it also makes it a little stretchy.

He was a much bigger fan of this toy than I thought he'd be! He typically does not take to rope toys, but this one was his favorite of the month.

A Fetching Falcon Jar - Value $10

This toy has a water bottle and beads inside to keep your pup busy.

They also note on their site that the beads are dog-safe:

Rockin' Rattle! Tummy-safe cornstarch rattle beads inside.

As you can tell from this photo progression. He thought he'd like the toy a little bit more than he actually did.

Pound Bakery Carob Kahk - Value $8

These treats had me a little jealous because they smelled like cookies! According to their site, this is a limited run treat - so I'm hoping he doesn't get too attached.

These are like a doggie dessert - and he loved every bite.

Beef Bites - Value $8

The last bag of treats contains small, soft, beef and cheese bites - a combo that Buckles adores.

He's been begging for these since the photoshoot - it's safe to say that these are a new favorite.

Emerald Pet Chicky Twizzle - Value $3

Typically, the final item in the box is a chew of rawhide - which out dog has trouble digesting. But this is an alternative to those items - it's a 100% digestible hard chew that is grain-free, gluten-free, soy-free, and dairy-free. So, we're letting him try a little piece after snapping it apart - he's working at it, but I think it's just a tad too hard for him to finish.

Verdict: Treat-wise, this month was great, but the toys were hit and miss. Luckily, we always have a pup to gift anything that Buckles can't or doesn't enjoy - so it's never been an issue of wasting anything. Overall, there have been many more hits recently.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Customer care let us know that your first box will now always be either their Welcome Box or the current month's box, followed by the normal schedule the following month.
