FabFitFun is a quarterly subscription box from FabFitFun.com. Each season they send you a box of items in categories like beauty, fashion, and fitness. It's our readers' top pick for the Best Fitness Subscription Boxes of 2021!

Each season, FabFitFun features a different design for its box. Starting with the Fall 2020 delivery, you may have noticed some changes—that's because FabFitFun switched over to 100% recycled kraft boxes and is working with artists to feature designs with less ink in their commitment to sustainability.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

FabFitFun Summer 2021 Review - A Box for My Mom

This season we decided to mix it up! Along with my personal box selection review, we also decided to customize a few more based on the fun themes that were in this box, like a beachy curation, a beauty-focused assortment, and this lifestyle box I built for my mom. We wanted to give a broader view of the items you could possibly select from, so be sure to check out the different reviews for different box curations!

I picked the contents of this box as if I was picking items my mom would want if she was a subscriber or if I wanted to gift her a box - which is exactly what happened here! I am actually currently visiting her in Tennessee as I write these summer FFF reviews so I was super thrilled to gift her the assortment you will find reviewed below.

She is too cute!!

FFF recently changed the selection process which allows for more options for all subscribers. I have noted more info on this in each following section to keep you in the loop.

There are still differences in terms of dates for customizations for Annual and Seasonal subscribers:

FabFitFun May Schedule

Ready to dive in? Let's go!

First choice item:

Choice 1 – All subscribers will be able to pick one of the following for their Summer Box:

  • Summer Fridays CC Me Serum
  • PMD Beauty Clean (Teal)
  • Neoprene Beach Tote (Pink/red) or (Blue/green)
  • Virginia Wolf Multi Wear Wrap
  • Society6 Outdoor Blanket
  • Society6 Wine Chiller
  • L*Space Tie Dye Towel

My Pick:

Summersalt x FabFitFun The Perfect Beach Tote - Retail Value $80.00

My mom is all about cute totes so I knew this would be a hit. She also tends towards greens and blues, so picking the green was an easy choice. The tote is made out of a thicker neoprene (think scuba suit material!) with contrasting side gussets in a lighter green. The bag has an oddly wonderful amount of stretch and give due to the fabric, so you can really fill it up! I feel like the shoulder straps could have been a bit longer but it was still easy to carry and the internal zipper pocket was a great spot for smaller and often lost items like a phone or small wallet.

It is colorful but still subdued! My mom is camera-shy (if she reads this and sees her photo above she might kill me), but check out her cute patio! Side note: See that bottle tree? My mom doesn't even drink but she collects bottles from her co-workers for her tree because they are "pretty".

Second choice item:

Choice 2 – All subscribers will be able to pick one of the following for their Summer Box:

  • Draper Games Ruffle Nightie
  • OUAI Detox Shampoo + Scalp Massager
  • Milly Jewelry Case
  • obé 2 Hip Bands + 2 Month obé Membership
  • Rae Dunn Guac Salsa Bowls with 2 spoons
  • Sonix Bluetooth Speaker
  • Tarte Drink of H20 Moisturizer
  • Business & Pleasure Soft Cooler

My Pick:

Draper James Ruffle Nighty – Retail Value $49.00

FYI: This item comes in three sizes: S/M, L/XL, and Plus. Here is the size guide!

This nighty isn't going to be for everyone, but my mom has always slept in little dresses like this for as long as I can remember. Even though she is probably an XL, I selected the Plus size option for her because she loves them loose. The site suggests this nighty is 36 inches long, but I feel like the plus was a little longer. Even though my mom is about 5 feet tall, it came to her knees easily. The fabric is stretchy and thinner, but still super soft. The little ruffle at the bottom makes it extra cute and my mom absolutely loved the blue tiny floral print. This is a great example of a choice item that some people aren't going to like or even get, while many, many others are going to have a new favorite thing to sleep in!

Third choice item:

Choice 3 – All subscribers will be able to pick one of the following for their Summer Box:

  • Corkcicle 12oz Wine Tumbler with Silicone Straw
  • Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40
  • Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo
  • AG Hair ReL Coil Curl Activator
  • Poolside Water Resistant Pouch
  • BaubleBar Build Your Own Bracelet Kit
  • MALIN+GOETZ Vitamin E Face Moisturizer
  • Nectar Blue Light Blocking Glasses - Brown Tortoise Round Eye

My Pick:

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo, 4 oz - Retail Value $26.00

Like mother, like daughter, my mom loves dry shampoo just as much as I do. Her hair has gone pure silver (it's stunning) so even if this stuff left a white residue she wouldn't need to worry. My darker roots prove it doesn't though! It also smells fantastic. My mom is on her feet all day and sometimes she just falls into bed after a long day. A dry shampoo like this gives her a volume boost and a refreshingly clean feeling any time she needs. Other than her beloved Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream, this might be her second favorite beauty product I have ever given her.

Fourth choice item:

  • Scentuals Vitamin C Serum
  • Ciaté London Watermelon Dewy Setting Spray
  • African Botanics Gold Shimmer Oil
  • TF Publishing Co. Brain Teasers + Activity Book Bundle

My Pick:

TF Publishing Co. Brain Teasers + Activity Book Bundle - Retail Value $26.00

Mom really enjoys puzzle books and even coloring pages, and since she and my dad go on road trips pretty often, she often enjoys a fun distraction that doesn't involve a draining phone battery. This pair of books has it all: crossword puzzles, coloring pages, riddles, word games, matching, and loads more. Each book is spiral bound and has 150+ pages of different activities. While I am not personally into this sort of thing, I was pretty impressed at the variety of puzzles and games inside. While this isn't the sort of thing for your competitive crossword-solver, it is a nice pick for most people who like games that are challenging enough to be fun, but not frustrating.

Fifth choice item:

Choice 5 – Annual subscribers will be able to pick one of the following for their Summer Box.

  • Mented Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick (Peachy Keen, Blood Orange, or Blacker the Berry)
  • Mine Tan Body Skin Moisturizing Recovery After Sun Gel
  • SOAR Selfie Light Ring
  • dr. Brandt Skincare Pores No More Purifying Cleanser
  • Flight Mode High Altitude Hydration Mask
  • To The Market Melamine Printed Tray
  • eparé Cutting Board Set of 4

(Annual subscribers get to pick their item. Seasonal subscribers will be surprised.)

My Pick:

eparé Cutting Board Set of 4 - Retail Value $16.95

FYI: These were also offered in Winter 2020 Box.

I wasn't sure about these at first because they are SO thin. But mom and I used them a lot for cooking this last week and their light weight is actually growing on me. Mom likes the cheerful colors and how each has a designated type of food clearly marked on it (red meat, veggies, poultry, and seafood). They are really easy to clean and store, taking up very little space in her cabinets. Because they are thinner, you can also fold them to use as a way to slide your chopped goods into the bowl or pan you want to cook them in.

Sixth Choice Item(s):

Customization Choice 6 – Annual subscribers will be able to pick from 1, 2, or 3-item bundles:

  • Bundle 1: Eyeko Double Act Shadow Stick in Cookies & Cream and Art & Cook Citrus Squeezer and Aria Beauty Makeup Swabs
  • Bundle 2: Seraphine Botanicals Fruit Butter Lip Mask and Art & Cook Citrus Squeezer and Blush Pineapple Ice Tray
  • Bundle 3: Eyeko Double Act Shadow Stick in Cookies & Cream and Barefoot Scientist Pedicure File and Aria Beauty Makeup Swabs
  • Bundle 4: Spongellé Body Wash Infused Buffer (Tea Blossom) and Blush Pineapple Ice Tray and Barefoot Scientist Pedicure File
  • Bundle 5: Seraphine Botanicals Fruit Butter Lip Mask and Barefoot Scientist Pedicure File and Blush Pineapple Ice Tray
  • Bundle 6: kate spade new york Workout Socks and Beautaniq Beauty Eye Gels
  • Bundle 7: SKIN&CO Roma Truffle Therapy Whipped Cleansing Cream and Erno Laszlo Pore Cleansing Clay Mask

OR

  • LashesMD Eyelash Conditioner
  • Murad Rapid Collagen Infusion
  • Ole Henriksen PHAT Glow Facial Mask
  • Verso Botanicals Super Eye Serum

I picked:

Bundle 4: Spongellé Body Wash Infused Buffer in 'Tea Blossom' ($18.00) and Blush Pineapple Ice Tray and Barefoot Scientist Pedicure File ($15.00)

I didn't have super strong feelings regarding these bundles in terms of what my mom would prefer, but I knew she would love the Spongelle buffer! She also gives herself a ton of pedicures too, so I hope she finds the file useful. She is also a fancy water bottle queen, so I know she will use the cute pineapple ice tray for freezing fruit juice ice cubes to tote to and from work.

Verdict: FabFitFun is one of those subscriptions where you can build totally for yourself, for someone special, or as a mix of gifts for yourself and others. When I decided to build a box for my mom as a surprise, I found myself picking totally different items than I would pick for myself. Well, aside from the dry shampoo! I can see why people have multiple subscriptions. As I have said in the other box reviews I have done for this season, I thought the options this round were especially good and the variety was wonderful no matter who the box is customized for. My mom loved unpacking her goodies (I wrapped everything back up after photos so she felt like she had the full experience!) and I am planning on treating her to an annual subscription because I think the thrill of picking out her own items would be so fun for her.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! (You'll be able to make your product selections after you sign up.)

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

When the spoilers first came out I wanted the nightie because I thought it was a swimsuit coverup lol. I’m actually still debating on going back and switching out for it (i picked the jewelry box).

I really wanted the business and pleasure soft business cooler but it wasn’t even an item for me to choose. Boo! I really wanted it too.

jenn

I don’t know if it helps with the disappointment but the cooler was the main reason I re-subbed right now (annual) and it was so poor quality that they decided to not even send it out, and instead they chose a replacement for me and it was the hip bands. ugh. They also gave a $25 credit so I think it ends up being fair enough but no way I wanted any hip bands ever. lol

Thank you jenn. I hate that it was so bad but I guess it’s better that they realized it quick before sending a ton out and getting a lot of complaints. Sorry about the hip bands, lol. I know I definitely I don’t want them either!

I am a seasonal subscriber. After I initially saw the spoilers for the summer box I almost subscribed to a second subscription/box because I wanted two items from each of the first 4 sections. Well, I logged on to FFF the second (literally the second it was noon est) and realized I only like one item (the picnic blanket) and the beach towel was already sold out. I went to the second section looking for the yellow cooler (my husband even wanted the cooler, lol) and couldn’t find it! I really knew I LOVED something in choice #2, so I logged on to here to find the most recent FFF review and saw the cooler was suppose to be in choice 2, ugh!! I ended up choosing the blue sleep dress which was something I did not have on my “wishlist” until I saw Megan’s review for her Mom’s box =) this will probably go to my mom or grandma.

Long story short…I’m so glad I never bought another subscription for two summer boxes!! Ever since seeing Megan’s FFF Summer 2020 review of this same cooler!! I wish FFF at least had all advertised items available for the annual subscribers and even a small portion for the seasonal subscribers. There is no way there were any of the towels or coolers left over for the seasonal members (or maybe just 10 for those who also entered the SECOND FFF opened today and selected their choices in 10-15 seconds) and they sold out during the annual choice time. I will look at this in one of two ways…either be frustrated and turned off by lack of available choices…or become an annual subscriber and gain access first to Add-Ons and choice time.

OK, thanks for letting me complain a bit! I don’t often do this…but I just wanted that cooler and beach towel, haha! Is there anyone else who wanted an item that they couldn’t choose?

Sorry for the cooler disappointment – it looks there were some issues and the cooler was removed (even for some annuals).
I’m a seasonal on and off, and what I learned so far is that not even annuals can get all their choices (not speaking about the cooler, but other “limited stock” items). As a seasonal, I’d like fff to advertise what is available for seasonal customization after annuals completed theirs. They way customization is presented is that you are given all options, while the reality is different (and it can be disappointing if one subscribes right before seasonal customization opens just for those specific items and finds out that they were already not available).

Overall, I like that there are many choices, but I don’t like the rush to customize. Sometimes life gets in the way, many people are at work and can’t just stop to customize their box. If I were an annual, I’d be irked if something that I wanted was sold out within 1 hr. As a seasonal, I’d just like to know in advance what’s left of the many choices, so I can decide whether getting the box or not.

I absolutely love how you customized the items that you chose to fit your mom’s needs. I think you make great selections from what you said she liked. I bet she really enjoyed the box. That was very sweet of you to customize it specially for her. It was also a great review, thank you!

I actually think the ability to pick from so many categories makes fff super fun. I can see why it’s so popular. Of course not every selection is going to be stellar, but the value is certainly there. I also like the mix they do between stuff and beauty. It’s always tempting to join each season (I tried one season a couple of years ago,) but decided it’s just not something I need.

Ugh this was supposed to be a reply to Rose.

I was a bit on the fence when spoilers first came out, but I ended up finding something I wanted in each category (even bought a couple extras) and like it overall. I was a bit sad none of the singe item choices were available in the last category, save the Verso, so I wasn’t able to get the Ole Hendrikson mask, lash serum, or Murad like I’d hoped. But, I did get the cute pinapple mold (will likely give to my sister along with an owl mold, so she can make crayons or chocolate) along with a citrus squeezer (my 5 yr old will be thrilled as she keeps wanting to squeeze lemons to make lemon juice,) and lip mask.

I’m actually pretty excited for those activity sets!

Love that you’re showing multiple box variations!!

For all of the negative that hovers around this sub (and I am LOUD when it comes to the bad) I think that this was a wonderful selection. I chose different items in every category (yes, I’m an annual subscriber so I got to chose every category) and I liked everything that I got. Is this a luxe subscription? No. Will I use everything that I got? Yes, and I got some extras for gifting.
I enjoy reading the negative comments (they need to be there), but that is not me this season.
