FabFitFun is a quarterly subscription box from FabFitFun.com. Each season they send you a box of items in categories like beauty, fashion, and fitness. It's our readers' top pick for the Best Fitness Subscription Boxes of 2021!

Each season, FabFitFun features a different design for its box. Starting with the Fall 2020 delivery, you may have noticed some changes—that's because FabFitFun switched over to 100% recycled kraft boxes and is working with artists to feature designs with less ink in their commitment to sustainability.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

FabFitFun Summer 2021 Review

First things first: FFF has changed up the selection process which allows for more options for all subscribers. I have noted more info on this in each following section to keep you in the loop.

There are still differences in terms of dates for customizations for Annual and Seasonal subscribers:

FabFitFun May Schedule

The following items are from a box I picked the items I wanted most from the options to form my ideal box. We will also be reviewing a beach-themed curation, a beauty item-focused box, and a fun lifestyle assortment in different reviews coming up so be sure to check back for different reviews of different box curations in the next few days.

Ready to dive in? Let's go!

First choice item:

Choice 1 – All subscribers will be able to pick one of the following for their Summer Box:

  • Summer Fridays CC Me Serum
  • PMD Beauty Clean (Teal)
  • Neoprene Beach Tote (Pink/red) or (Blue/green)
  • Virginia Wolf Multi Wear Wrap
  • Society6 Outdoor Blanket
  • Society6 Wine Chiller
  • L*Space Tie Dye Towel

My Pick:

Society6 Outdoor Blanket

I absolutely LOVE a good picnic blanket! When you have multiple dogs, they come in handy for even more situations and I usually always have one draped over my back seat so they don't slide around on the leather when we are on those fun back roads. There was something so delightfully mod and retro about this orange and pink print. It really feels like summer! This blanket is also a great size too.

Second choice item:

Choice 2 – All subscribers will be able to pick one of the following for their Summer Box:

  • Draper Games Ruffle Nightie
  • OUAI Detox Shampoo + Scalp Massager
  • Milly Jewelry Case
  • obé 2 Hip Bands + 2 Month obé Membership
  • Rae Dunn Guac Salsa Bowls with 2 spoons
  • Sonix Bluetooth Speaker
  • Tarte Drink of H20 Moisturizer
  • Business & Pleasure Soft Cooler

My Pick:

OUAI Detox Shampoo + Scalp Massager - Retail Value $40.00

This was an easy choice! I am OUAI crazy over anything from OUAI and I jumped at the chance to try their detox shampoo. It came bundled with a fun scalp scrubber with flexible silicone nubs that give the perfect massage with or without shampoo. This is the sort of shampoo I would probably use once a week as it really does strip out anything leftover in your hair. While my roots get oily, my hair is pretty dry, so I used this on my roots only and in combination with the massager. My hair felt SO clean and the volume factor was through the roof. If you are someone like me who uses a ton of dry shampoo (or really, any hair products) this is a great once-a-week treat to reset your tresses and cleanse your scalp. It also left my hair smelling like OUAI's Melrose scent, one of my faves and also one I already own as a perfume.

Third choice item:

Choice 3 – All subscribers will be able to pick one of the following for their Summer Box:

  • Corkcicle 12oz Wine Tumbler with Silicone Straw
  • Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40
  • Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo
  • AG Hair ReL Coil Curl Activator
  • Poolside Water Resistant Pouch
  • BaubleBar Build Your Own Bracelet Kit
  • MALIN+GOETZ Vitamin E Face Moisturizer
  • Nectar Blue Light Blocking Glasses - Brown Tortoise Round Eye

My Pick:

BaubleBar Build Your Own Bracelet Kit

I literally just bought myself a tube of Supergoop, otherwise, this would have been a harder choice. I also already picked it in our upcoming beach-themed FFF review! There is something so fun and nostalgic about making your own elastic bracelets with fun, colorful beads. I do think I would have been more impressed with this kit if the beads had been glass or a mix of glass and plastic, rather than just plastic. Still, this is a really fun and creative option for a summer box and something you don't often see in subscription boxes. The whole kit makes it fun and easy to swap friendship bracelets all over again with your bestie. Since my mom is my bestie (and I am writing this review from her sunny porch in Tennessee!) this might be something we dive into this weekend for fun.

Fourth choice item:

  • Scentuals Vitamin C Serum
  • Ciaté London Watermelon Dewy Setting Spray
  • African Botanics Gold Shimmer Oil
  • TF Publishing Co. Brain Teasers + Activity Book Bundle

My Pick:

African Botanics Gold Shimmer Oil, 60 mL - Estimated Value $66.00 (buy 100 mL in a pretty gold bottle for $110.00)

African Botanics is a really nice and super $$$ brand that I was, honestly, really surprised to see as a FFF choice. Sure, this is smaller than the bottle shown on the brand's site and the bottle is less fancy (but still adorable) but I was still so excited to pick it! This golden oil has a warm sexy floral scent that leans tropical without feeling cheap or boozy. The main body of the formula is coconut oil which I love on my arms and legs in the summer. Add in oils from Kalahari Melon, Baobab, and Marula, and ethically sourced golden mica and you have a combination that is going to quickly become a summer favorite for hydrating and adding shine to your arms, legs, and collarbones.

Fifth choice item:

Choice 5 – Annual subscribers will be able to pick one of the following for their Summer Box.

  • Mented Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick (Peachy Keen, Blood Orange, or Blacker the Berry)
  • Mine Tan Body Skin Moisturizing Recovery After Sun Gel
  • SOAR Selfie Light Ring
  • dr. Brandt Skincare Pores No More Purifying Cleanser
  • Flight Mode High Altitude Hydration Mask
  • To The Market Melamine Printed Tray
  • eparé Cutting Board Set of 4

(Annual subscribers get to pick their item. Seasonal subscribers will be surprised.)

My Pick:

To The Market Melamine Printed Tray

Is there anything more summery than a cute lemon print? Lemons remind me of my mom and just make me smile. This tray is a great size for serving your favorite tarts or even using on your vanity under your favorite creams and perfumes.

Sixth Choice Item(s):

Customization Choice 6 – Annual subscribers will be able to pick from 1, 2, or 3-item bundles:

  • Bundle 1: Eyeko Double Act Shadow Stick in Cookies & Cream and Art & Cook Citrus Squeezer and Aria Beauty Makeup Swabs
  • Bundle 2: Seraphine Botanicals Fruit Butter Lip Mask and Art & Cook Citrus Squeezer and Blush Pineapple Ice Tray
  • Bundle 3: Eyeko Double Act Shadow Stick in Cookies & Cream and Barefoot Scientist Pedicure File and Aria Beauty Makeup Swabs
  • Bundle 4: Spongellé Body Wash Infused Buffer (Tea Blossom) and Blush Pineapple Ice Tray and Barefoot Scientist Pedicure File
  • Bundle 5: Seraphine Botanicals Fruit Butter Lip Mask and Barefoot Scientist Pedicure File and Blush Pineapple Ice Tray
  • Bundle 6: kate spade new york Workout Socks and Beautaniq Beauty Eye Gels
  • Bundle 7: SKIN&CO Roma Truffle Therapy Whipped Cleansing Cream and Erno Laszlo Pore Cleansing Clay Mask

OR

  • LashesMD Eyelash Conditioner
  • Murad Rapid Collagen Infusion
  • Ole Henriksen PHAT Glow Facial Mask
  • Verso Botanicals Super Eye Serum

I picked:

Bundle 1: Eyeko Double Act Shadow Stick in Cookies & Cream (Retail Value $25.00) and Art & Cook Citrus Squeezer and Aria Beauty Makeup Swabs (Retail Value $15.00)

I had tried the Eyeko pencil before and loved it, so I was happy to choose this bundle which included another pair of colors. These glide on super smooth and blend out beautifully. I also recently broke my citrus squeezer (literally, how?!) so a replacement was great! This one is made of plastic but still feels very durable. Lastly, I wanted to try out the makeup swabs to see how they might replace my normal q-tips. While I did not find these effective for cleaning out ears (and I shouldn't be using q-tips for that anyways) I did love how these silicone tipped swabs smudged eyeshadow and liner to soft perfection.

Top: Cream, Bottom: Cookies

Verdict: This was a great FabFitFun box. I was really impressed with some of the bigger names inside (OUAI, Supergoop, African Botanics, Summer Fridays, and more) that are already some of my favorites. It made some of the choices a little hard!! The options really felt summery and the bright colors and patterns were cheery and playful. I think many subscribers are going to be pretty delighted with the options this month and the overall value this box delivers, regardless of your choices. I also think it is a really nice change to allow subscribers more choice over what they receive inside too. Since this is a box that truly allows you to customize it into really any sort of theme you want, the more choice options, the better!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! (You'll be able to make your product selections after you sign up.)

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I got the add-on LifePro adjustable dumbbells and they only sent one. I reached out to customer service and they said it only includes one. This is the description word for word:

“Product Details
The PowerFlow Plus adjustable weight system is ideal for people at any fitness level who want to begin with lower weights and slowly work up to higher loads. The PowerFlow Plus Adjustable Dumbbells have been selectively engineered to provide the optimal variety of weight options, starting at 5 pounds and going up to 25 pounds. The PowerFlow Plus dumbbells save space and allow you to choose exactly the right intensity for all your workout needs.
Includes
Lifepro PowerFlow Plus Adjustable Dumbbells
Dumbbell Rack”

Did anyone else have this issue? I’m so frustrated.

Elle

Their wording indicates a plural (aka more than 1) number of dumbbell(S).

I wish the would have been more understanding. At least offer you a refund. That is frustrating.

Is the supergoop sunscreen sold out?

Reply ButtonReply

Chantel

Yes, it is no longer available. I chatted with them to check

If you have a Flex Savings Account with a debit card, you can use that on the SuperGoop website. I buy the matte sunscreen and use it as a primer. Its like buying makeup pretax.

Ana

Thank you

I have 2 subscriptions and my sister has 1 (I manage hers as she loves to be surprised). I’ve had one of my subscriptions for 6 years and the other 2 are also annual. None have arrived. We got the tracking numbers over a week ago. I realize it’s a holiday but it seems like a lot of people received their boxes 2 weeks ago?

Reply ButtonReply

Amy G

I don’t think I’ve ever gotten my box within less than 2 weeks of shipping.

Reply ButtonReply

SY

I got my box, everything was prefect. I got the cooler bag, there isn’t any obvious problem with it, but I am happy to get $25 which is half the cost of a box. Probably going to use that to get another box during their flash sale.
My experience with customer service with FFF have been the best among other.
It is always a great treat to get box in the mail. I have two annual subscription, and sometime I will buy a third. From time to time, I will pick something and give it to my mon. It make her as happy as when I bought her a super expensive designer jacket.

I got an email yesterday that were quality issues with the Business & Pleasure Soft Cooler so they swapped it out with another item. I just checked my box online and it looks like they swapped it out with the hip resistance bands 🙄 which is the last thing I’d pick in any category. I have some use for regular resistance bands (and I already have 3 sets from boxes) but I’m never going to use hip ones. Anyway, they also gave me a $25 credit so cost wise I feel okay about it (even though the cooler was the main reason I signed back up). But the swap choice is really disappointing. Idk how others deal with the less than full customization. lol I can’t handle mystery prizes anymore; they always seem to send the thing no one wanted/picked.

Reply ButtonReply

Ashley Watson

I got the same email (was also super excited about the cooler) and also had no need for hip resistance bands, which is what they chose for me too. I reached out to customer service and asked why they didn’t give us the option to pick something else from the category instead of picking for us. They ended up letting me choose something I wanted from all of the categories available, so I appreciated that. I’ve been a seasonal subscriber before and decided this go around to do annual and I regret it. Every single box I’ve received has had an issue. My first box was missing some of my add on items, and I had double of one item instead of the other item I chose, and an item was damaged. Then my second box, the ring was broken. Now this with my third box. Definitely will not be continuing with FFF.

Reply ButtonReply

Rose

I don’t think there were any real quality control issues. I messaged Business & Pleasure on Insta and asked them about their bags being defective and if they’ve fixed the problem. Here is what they wrote back to me:

“Yeah we are a little confused as to what games FFF are playing! We haven’t shipped them since May 2020.

You can use code FFFCOOLER for a free yellow cooler on our site

They are perfect condition x“

I feel bad for this company (Business & Pleasure). Fabfitfun either ran out of bags or they were damaged while sitting in their warehouse for a year. Either way…Fabfitfun could have bought more cooler bags instead of blaming it on this small business.

Reply ButtonReply

Annie S.

Was this item supposed to be in one of last years Fab Fit Fun box? Is it normal for this company to buy items a year in advance to put in a box?

I agree – this email is very flippant for a small company to send out. You would think that they would want to maintain, at least outwardly to the public, a good working relationship with a larger company that might be willing to place other orders with them, If I worked for another company, I would hesitate to work with the smaller company. No matter if FabFitFun stored the bags incorrectly or there is a defect in the bag itself, you still want to have an air of professionalism when responding to complaints,

Kelly

I don’t believe any company would ever send an email like that unless they have a 12 year old on staff. A professional business would say “we are reaching out to Fabfitfun about the issue they had” not “we don’t know what games they are playing” come on now.

Sue

That’s a very unprofessional email for a company to send.

Jennifer

Exactly, it sounds like FFF dropped the ball on this one. It does seem there are some slight quality issues even with the rest of the bags, like loose threads sometimes or the snaps coming off or not working right.

But for this batch, it sounds like FFF just didn’t store them right for a year, so they degraded, got dirty, bugs got in, etc..

I understand they were in a mad rush to fix it, but the little communication they’ve done seems to be implying the cooler company was to blame.

Meanwhile Business and Pleasure has been bending over backwards to help FFF customers, even putting out a code to get it free with shipping. (Which is currently $19.99 I think for U.S., since they had to get extra help to package them since so many were ordering.)

Hopefully FFF learns from this and has a better system in place if something similar happens in the future.

Debby

I received my box yesterday and it’s fantastic! I’m always impressed with FFF.

My box just arrived. Wow. Everything correct, with free electrolyte hydration sample. Which I need to keep on hand after a bad bout of food poisoning last month.

Reply ButtonReply

Jean

I was so close to picking the blanket because I too find the print so fun! The size is not nearly big enough for my family of four though, and I do have a water-resistant blanket that fits us (mostly). I should probably just get a second of the one I have. I ended up choosing the Summer Fridays serum. I am waiting on my box but I think I’m actually looking forward most to the oil – the scent sounds amazing and I am ready for summer.

Reply ButtonReply

Lauren

I just got my box. I got the blanket and I’m pretty disappointed with it. Basically, it doesn’t come with straps and in order to wrap it back up, you have to do it perfectly to match the Velcro parts. It’s a hassle. It does not have a shoulder strap, just a small handle (if you re-wrap it perfectly), so you would really have to carry it in a bag, which is what I was trying to avoid. Bed bath has more convenient ones.

Reply ButtonReply

ABC

FFF is now uses LaserShip, so prepare to have a lot of boxes go missing. I stopped ordering from the Gap and Old Navy because they use them. The drivers they use for my area leave packages on the road and let stuff sit in their trucks for days after they pick it up. Not the smartest move to use a shipper like that. I’d rather pay more and know my packages are actually going to get to me in tact.

I was expecting to receive my summer box today but instead i received an anniversary gift. Did anyone else receive an anniversary
gift instead of their box ?
My anniversary gift included-
Sloane champagne flutes
Beyond yoga scarf
Zigi &Marais pouch
Giving key mini necklace

Reply ButtonReply

Bee

My box and anniversary gift came yesterday together. My anniversary gift with the key neckace, lotion and the felt letter board (they have sent this to me three times now on the same account).

Reply ButtonReply

SubBoxSarah

Bee, contact CS about getting the same product 3x, they will offer you credit or another item!! I got the same product in both my bonus box and first box and they picked a “mystery item” but it ended up being out of stock so I was given a $20 credit good for a year. Those felt boards make nice gifts tho! Especially for grads

Teresa

I hope I get the same one. I don’t wanna felt board or more grown alchemist product.

Reply ButtonReply

Debby

That’s awesome. I renewed last season and didn’t get anything (I feel cheated 🤣🤣🤣).

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

I think it’s something new they are doing for people who renew their annuals. 🙂 It’s a smart idea as then there won’t be as much temptation to cancel and resign up for a new member’s gift.

There are a number of varieties I’ve seen – a lot had that felt board with letters thing and some Grown alchemist product.

Reply ButtonReply

Courtney S.

I received the felt board, silver key necklace and Grown Alchemist face cream as my annual gift. I loved my box!

JMM

Just following up for everyone who had such horrible things to say about the nightgown – I just received mine and it’s awesome! The print is fresh and cute and the fabric is sooooo soft! Y’all can keep your lace bustiers or whatever you’re sleeping in.

Reply ButtonReply

Jean

Too funny – I chose the nightie because I actually need more short nightgowns for summer. I got the S/M and I’m hoping my size 8-ish bod can fit in it comfortably. Glad to hear you are enjoying it!

Jennifer

I got the nightgown but haven’t got my box yet – I hope it’s comfy! I actually don’t mind the design, I think it’s kind of fun.

I replied to others who have explained but I believe posts are being held back. I just had my first censored post the other day! Perhaps my reply and thanks to those who did get to explain might not make it, either.

Reply ButtonReply

Hanna

What a let down this place has become. New owners def do not care at all.

Hanna

Yeah this place is SO censored. For some reason it really bugs me that so many commenters call them out on the myriad of arrors and misinformation they post and all they do is quietly fix it. Not once ever saying like ” thanks for the heads up” or “wow, we are sorry for that. We went ahead and fixed it.” Why does that bug me? I dunno. Guess I was just used to how it was before. The people running this place don’t care to engage with us at all. Or even admit their mistakes.

Read all these posts with interest, agreeing that sometime reviews seem less personal than in prior years, but there are (IMO) good reviews still out there.
My Fabfitfun box will arrive Tuesday which is super fast, and I’m heading for vacay wednesday, so great job! As an annual subscriber this year, I’ve enjoyed all the customizations and am really happy with this summer box. When the subscription ends I’ll have true fomo! From the unhide blanket to sleepwear, this is a good box. I’ve just cancelled Causebox after the laughable Spring box! Again, IMO, the 5 items jiggling around that box were not worth the subscription price! Every box has its duds, read cactus, but overall Fff has won me over!

Reply ButtonReply

Jessi

Some of the reviews are better than others, but a lot of them aren’t as helpful or informative as they used to be. There are also less exclusive deals and/or good coupon codes. This is probably at leaat partially due to the pandemic though. And I agree about Fabfitfun and causebox. Fabfitfun is a much better value. I don’t always love or even like everything, but i at least feel like i get my moneys worth. That spring causebox was terrible. The only item i somewhat liked was the sleep spray stuff. I will not be renewing my annual subscription.

Reply ButtonReply

Jill

The reviews have been going downhill for quite awhile. They are more “unboxing” vids vs reviews. So many terrible boxes get great reviews resulting in some getting getting duped.

J.

My Subscription Addiction has not been the same since Liz Cadman departed.

Will she return?

Reply ButtonReply

Sue

No she’s never coming back. She doesn’t own the company anymore.

Reply ButtonReply

Cb

If been trying to figure out what happened to Liz C who used to run MSA but can’t find any info? Do we know why? Did she sell her co?? I sure do miss her

Reply ButtonReply

JMM

Money I assume. A quick Google uncovers some interesting information about the current owners of this site.

echo

She announced on the site about a year or so ago that she’d be “stepping back” but that MSA was in good hands. Apparently that was code for “I sold this site and am no longer involved.” There are lots of posts like yours since the other people have taken over. I don’t really know Liz, I didn’t visit here until the very end of her ownership, but it does sound like her charming personality was a big draw.

Kc

Nope the site was sold and Liz is gone. It hasn’t been the same. Misinformation in posts, poor editing, seems to be used for marketing more than sub box fan content. I prefer hello…a lot more now.

Reply ButtonReply

echo

It is painfully obvious to me this site needs a forum but haven’t I read that there used to be one that was taken away? Why?

Reply ButtonReply

Leah

Hi Luna 🙂 You always managed to be above the fray. I admire your good nature very much!

Luna

Hi Leah! I remember you 🙂

Leah

I was there at the time everything went down and I don’t know myself what happened! I’m leaving a comment just to say hello to any of the old forum members who might remember me. It was a big part of my life at one point, but at the end of the day, there was a lot of negativity which I don’t miss. I do feel bad if I hurt anyone inadvertently though.

echo

Thanks all for the forum explanations you’ve posted and for any future info about it, I really do appreciate it. But then I’m also annoyed that we are all having a discussion fit for a forum! (This is a FabFitFun review!)

Reddit has strict rules to keep charged conversations out of the subreddit. But there are moderators that I’ve found to be very dedicated to keeping things on track. MSA, please look into opening the forums again but with more than just one moderator.

Jennifer

A bunch of users started ganging up on a couple, claiming they were racist and essentially trying to get them “cancelled” – started rumors, woudn’t folow guidelines, threatened to blackmail MSA with a cancel campaign, some even engaged in cyber-stalking, etc. While they were warned several times, and Liz tried to step in, she started getting flak. In the end, the forum closed as they decided they didn’t want it misused for cyberbullying or to become a hotbed of rumors and catfighting.

Molly

Yes, I used to enjoy it. Apparently it was hard to moderate. I have some sympathy — I’m sure it’s a frustrating and thankless job to be a message board moderator. But I do miss it. The new format for company landing pages is also making the site much worse, imo.

Traci Lehnert

We had a forum and it was great until everyone got woke. Then one week it was a mass freak out session of everyone fighting and accusing others of being racist. When Liz tried to help she was also accused of being a racist and then there were demands to remove people. Liz just shut it down and I didn’t blane her, it turned into a poop show and wasn’t worth the headache….personally I felt that was the first step in Liz losing her passion for it. She spoke regularly about how she was always an introvert and had a hard time putting herself out there and in the end she was called a racist if she didn’t fully agree with the torch carriers. I miss the forums but don’t think they should ever come back if thats what they turn into. SMH

Anna

It’s technically still there just not functional. There was a lot going on in the last week you’ll have better luck searching Reddit for info on that. I do wish they’d bring it back as it meant a lot of us traded, swapped and it was a great community. It only took one bad apple that loved to create drama.

MisaMisa

There were some posters on the forum who were allowed to make racist comments without repercussions. When those posters were called out, the ones who called them out were banned. A lot of people were upset about that, and when they confronted Liz, she decided to shut down the forum. In my opinion, it was a bad decision and hurt a lot of people.

Amelia

I assume there’s always a reasonable explanation for things (comments get eaten up by cyberspace, etc.) but I wrote a comment a few minutes ago saying the review seemed like she hasn’t tried many of the products (other than the blanket photo, it looked like most of the photos were the FFF photos) and some only had a couple of sentences that sounded a lot like things we’d already heard from FFF.

My comment didn’t post — even though I got the duplicate posting message so I know it went through. Maybe a delay in their posting system? I hope so — I can’t imagine that MSA has someone spending Saturday morning deleting comments they don’t like.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

Posts can take a few hours to show up, too.

Reply ButtonReply

Estalyn

Amelia, only about 1/2 my comments post for some reason. I have no idea why some post some don’t don’t.

Reply ButtonReply

JoJoB

Okay I’m here to see how long my comment lasts. I have never been on board with all the bashing that has come MSA’s way of late and I’m usually one of those people whose comments gets accused of being posted by a box employee because they are usually extremely positive even for for products/boxes that most people love to hate. I don’t believe in saying mean things unnecessarily or in complaining for no reason. So I don’t do that, but you better believe I don’t tell others that they can’t do it if they want to. You will never catch me telling anyone else what to say or think. What I believe in above all else is free speech and a person’s personal right to expression. I find it hard to believe that the Summer FFF box review has less than 30 comments and they are ALL POSITIVE. What is going on? Is MSA now screening comments or have people truly just left this site? I know that within the first hour this review was up I saw a negative comment that is no longer here. I am also noticing this trend on a lot of the other posts. Now as I mentioned before, I’m 98% a little miss Pollyanna sunshine but this is truly disturbing. I don’t want to live in a world where people are not free to say what they want.

Reply ButtonReply

MzBev

I hope someone at MSA is looking at the website statistics. Personally, I am not on here as much anymore. Several of us are disappointed in how its changing, that must be showing by less clicks to the site.

Reply ButtonReply

echo

JoJoB, first of all, I’m with you on most of this, and the “this” includes things you said on this subject in another post (maybe on Allure spoilers?). But there is a “but” coming: But, as they love to point out, “MSA is reader supported” and therefore has to continue generating referrals and sales to keep running. That’s probably why we are seeing blog posts that are outright advertisements and comments are getting deleted. If the comments section is full of things that include negative and/or critical information, it makes that box look bad and that is going to hurt sales and signups.

I would love for all of the comments (that aren’t spam!) to be posted, even if the comments are negative, critical, or otherwise unflattering. I’m a visitor from the US and cherish freedom of speech. The thing is, MSA, a private business, owns this space on the internet, so they don’t have to publish anything if they don’t want to. And they can delete whatever they want.

They don’t care about our unbridled opinions, even though they clearly should. They just want to continue making money. It’s short-sighted on their part and they may be kicking themselves down
the line.
(I, too, wonder if this post of mine will last.)

Two other things I want to address here:
I found this site at the end of the glory years with Liz, so I can’t really speak to the reviews or other content that may have changed. When I first started visiting it was to look at pictures of box contents, and then, quite happily, discover new boxes as I had no idea all of this stuff existed. This site kind of blew my mind! So many subscriptions! And an entire hub dedicated to them! Full of people! The reviews were low on the list of my reasons to visit here, even though I started reading them eventually.

But the thing that keeps me coming back is the community. I love the comments section! I just wish it was an unfiltered comment section. I want to read what other subscription addicted people really think. This Twilight Zone version with only positive comments is bizarre. We’re having a discussion here and I want to see what the naysayers *and* yaysayers contribute to the ongoing discourse. There are many times I’ve subscribed to (or skipped) boxes after reading about them here.

I started using my reddit account recently to supplant the info that’s lacking here because some of you suggested it. Instagram has also been given as an alternate source but I don’t do IG and I’ve read fellow posters saying they aren’t into it, either. Or reddit, for that matter.
So I’m going to go out on a limb and say we as a group would like to gather *here* to talk about our subscriptions. MSA is making that difficult.

Which brings me to my second thing that should probably be its own post but I’m adding it while I have your eyeballs:
It feels really weird to use the moniker MSA when speaking about the people who are maintaining this site. It feels impersonal. Who’s in charge here? Who’s moderating the comments? I looked at the about page & there are several human candidates. Which person should we be addressing these posts to? Is there some reason there really isn’t a human face associated with MSA? Just wondering…

I 100% agree. I too had comments deleted for being critical and also mentioning a couple other places to go that are more reliable now that MSA is no longer very significant. The fact that there are barely any comments is absolutely crazy. FFF posts have always had an extremely high volume of comments. Just reading these other comments on this thread…they seem fake. Not all. And I dont want to be rude cuz maybe they are legit but, seeing comments that start with “I love fff” or “great review” just seems phony cuz commenters I’ve noticed over the past few years don’t ever sound like that. And one comment only says “great review. ” And also the comment about thanks for taking all the pictures to help me choose. They ALWAYS have taken pics, thats nothing new. Ill stop now but I think its all a bit suspect.

Just want to say that I’m a true Fff subscriber who really LOVES fff! Whenever I post, someone is always saying it can’t be real! Well, I’ve got 3 subscriptions, causebox, Margot Elena, and fabfitfun, and fff is my fave because: causebox let me down in spring box, Margot Elena is now too expensive for my blood, and fff made their box better! After letting my fff sub go, I noticed changes in them in adverts so I resubscribed as an annual and it’s been great for me!
I could tell you about the tie dye towel I’m getting, or the Draper nightgown or the picnic blanket etc…but maybe you don’t care what I’m getting! But still I am so excited as it was paid for last year and now it’s my gift to me! I live with some offbeat disorders: Lyme Disease, Traumatic Brain Injury, PTSD, and Chronic Depression to name some, so to receive something fun gives me joy, I hope that my Pollyanna attitude doesn’t offend anyone but yes, I am 100% real!

Cynthia

I can honestly say my comment was real, legit, and not at all phony! I have posted critical comments too, but all have been my honest opinion.

For almost the last five years, it has been my daily routine to check this site at least twice a day, but not anymore. It just doesn’t feel the same anymore. I feel like the vibe here used to be more like “hear what your friends have to honestly say about a new product they got.” Now half the site reminds me of influencers on Instagram trying to sell you a pan that is “AH-MAZING AND WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!” I trust the opinions that I read in the comments a lot more than what is in the actual review which is kind of sad. But yeah, I feel like there are way less comments overall on here. I type out a lot of comments and then just erase it all way more often than I actually comment these days.

Similar – this site has been on my google shortcut list for a couple years, but I’ve been checking it less and commenting less as there are far fewer spoiler posts than their used to be, reviews are sometimes waaay late, and a lot of the posts aren’t really sub box related. (Though I do like the gift guide ones they have now and then.) Spoilers are often posted after I’ve already seen them on Instragram or elsewhere.

I’m finding there are so many new boxes out there, too, that MSA doesn’t even post about or mention – I know keeping up with all the Cratejoy boxes would be near impossible, but it would be nice to have a “Should we Review?” or “What new Boxes do you want us to Review?” post every month or two.

Scents of Wood, Decorated, The “Steal It” box by Decor Steals, Lev Haolam, Coloring Book and Classics, PandaCooking, and Honeybunch are just a few of the ones I’d love to see reviewed. (I get Scents of Wood and it is fantastic! I also get Pandacooking and if you want a “random pantry stockup box with a ton of stuff” it’s great.) Or even if they had a “Guest Review” section of the site where we could submit longer reviews a box we got that MSA doesn’t cover, rather than just the short brand review area.

I just saw your comment on the side of my laptop screen and had to respond, even though I don’t sub to FFF. There are fewer comments, wayyyyy fewer reviews, boxes that were reviewed previously (a plethora of them, including international foods to other beauty / makeup / skincare boxes, etc.) are no longer here, the people that were typically doing the reviews are, for the most part, not reviewing anymore, comments are not posted or are deleted (one of mine was deleted the other day for mentioning another website that posts subscription boxes like here, but won’t mention their name for fear of deletion, lol), etc. Things are significantly different. I used to look at this website several times a day, not just for the boxes, spoilers, etc., but even more so for the comments on the boxes or their contents. It’s not the same. It’s corporate-owned and it shows.

Amelia

I am amazed this counts as a review — the vast majority of it sounded liked it was based on seeing photos. (The tray got 3 sentences that could have been written based on the photos online, for example.)

Agreed, JoJoB, agreed. I’m known for being that Pollyanna type too, but the thought of censorship really bothers me. We all deserve to have an opinion and to express it if we wish. It should be shared if we share it. True, some folks are just down right nasty, and hate/bullying should not be tolerated, but voicing our thoughts, whether positive or negative, should be permitted. I truly hope it’s just been a busy week for people and they aren’t commenting…but that does seem strange given FFF posts normally get flooded with comments of all types.

I think it’s really odd that there are so few comments and that they are all positive, too. This makes no sense after the past few posts on the summer box.

Probably less negative because people stop trying to comment. I’m not in love with this box but it’s not terrible. They seem to have messed up customizing again so who knows if boxes will be right.

I’m so excited for this FFF Summer box to arrive! I chose 4 items from Category 1, including this picnic blanket n after your review I’m sooo glad I did! Come on shipping!

Love FFF. They have gotten better and better. I have 3 annual subscriptions now due to the awesome promos they put out recently. I customized one box for my sister and changed the address for it to go to her for her birthday. The other two are on their way to me haha. It’s nice to get a summer box in time for summer.

Awesome review! I can’t wait to see the other curated reviews. I hope they come before seasonal customization as I bought an additional seasonal box during their BOGO sale.

I wish I had chosen the outdoor blanket after seeing your photo. I thought it was much smaller. it’s such a pretty print. I chose the neoprene beach tote that I’m going to fill with sunscreen, the little pool bag in another category, and a turkish towel I have from a PS box. I’m going to give it to my bestie who always joins me at the pool.

Great review. I was sad that as an annual I couldn’t get the towel (and I tried on and off for days). But your review of the Outdoor Blanket makes me happy I chose that.
I also chose the Ouai (mainly for the scalp massager), the tray and Supergoop. It’s a good box. Nothing I really had to have but it’s totally worth the price.

While I’m not on the fff bandwagon, I really really like the format of this review, Megan! I love how I can efficiently see all the choice options (and read them in list format,) as well as see your pick and of course your awesome pictures 😊

I think the reason I don’t subscribe is because it seems a bit complicated and stressful. Nothing worse than a ton of people clamoring for the same stuff at the same time and then risking disappointment when certain items are sold out. Just not my cup of tea I suppose. I do agree the value is there and I always enjoy the temptation of joining after reading spoilers, but sometimes too much is just too much lol.

I agree Snow. I liked how the review was set up. It was much easier to understand what you could select. I also haven’t subscribed because of how complicated it seems to order and what items are available for selection. Based on previous reviews, I’ve noticed that many subscribers don’t get the items selected and that makes me wary to subscribe as well. Oh well, for now I’m going to pass on this.

I’ve subscribed for about a year and actually got a second subscription because I always had such trouble deciding and often wanted add-ons that cost more than a second subscription. I’ve never been unable to select an item I wanted and I’m never waiting for customization to open — I just do it sometime that day. For add-ons, it does sometimes take going back in to be able to add an add-on that I wanted because I couldn’t narrow it down. (Lots of people log in right away and add things on, but they drop as they make their selections.) FFF is way more organized and clear cut than Causebox and much more transparent than Journeebox, so I wouldn’t let the process or availability discourage you.

ElephantNoises

Thank you for reviewing multiple boxes!

The picnic blanket looks much nicer in your pictures and I’m almost regretting not choosing it.
