How Subscriptions Can Make Remote Gifting More Meaningful

Remote gifting is not a new thing. We have all done it dozens of times. I'm pretty sure it just used to be called "mailing a gift", but I know everything needs a fancy new name these days.

I'm also pretty sure that comment just made me sound like my Grandma.

While remote gifting might not be a new thing, the way we experience it certainly is. Last year my family and I did a Secret Santa gift exchange.

We invited the aunts, uncles, cousins, significant others, everyone was invited to join! Our extended family stretches from the east coast in Florida to the west coast in Idaho, so there is very little chance of getting everyone together at the same time. Plus, Covid made it downright impossible to get together last year. So, we all picked names out of a virtual hat, sent off our gifts, and then had a big Zoom call a few days before Christmas to reveal them. It was loud, chaotic, and a whole lot of fun.

We've actually decided to make it a yearly tradition and I've been eyeing some great subscription gifts to snag for our upcoming Secret Santa gift exchange. I want something that will make my family think of me more than just while opening it that one day a year. I want them to know that I really put thought and care into their gift. Of course, lots of presents can do that, but I really do love the idea of them getting something each month that I know they will use and love.

The Best Subscription Gifts for Remote Giving

Gifting someone a subscription is a commitment. You have to really be sure that they are going to love it. But that's also why it makes such a great and meaningful gift. I feel like subscription gifts are really reserved for the most important people in your life. The ones that you make the effort to stay close with, regardless of distances or life's challenges. If you have a few of those special people in your life that want to make smile all year long, check out our list below of some great subscription ideas.

KiwiCo

Last year the grandparents also wanted to do something extra special for our kids since they weren't going to be able to see them during the holidays. So, they bought them each a year's subscription to KiwiCo. It was great to do the projects and then call the grandparents showing them what they had made. It also made our kids think about the grandparents each month when the box showed up at the door.

When they were finally able to visit, they were then able to do a few projects together with the kids and really enjoy it first-hand. It was a great way to bring their gift full circle. Plus, they also have a great new group gift option, so multiple people can get in on the gift-giving! Just put in your goal amount and then send out the link to whomever you think would want to chip in. Once your goal amount is reached, a KiwiCo gift card is sent out for them to choose which box they would like to try!

Price: Varies from $20.95 bi-monthly to $31.95 monthly depending on the line

Shaker & Spoon

Sometimes sharing an experience is just as good, if not better, than a physical gift. But how do you do that when you aren't physically near the ones you love?

Well, thankfully subscriptions actually make this easy! Our coworker, Lindsey, has a friend who just gifted her sister a Shaker & Spoon subscription. They plan on setting up a monthly cocktail hour together where they make the drinks in each box and then enjoy them together. It's just a little extra something to make that time spent together more memorable and special.

Each month they will receive recipes for three different types of cocktails with ingredients to make four cocktails of each kind. Alcohol is not included, but every other ingredient and garnish is, making it easy to sit down at night and enjoy a specialty cocktail.

Price: $50/monthly

Set up a Zoom call and piece through the clues to solve the mystery. When you can't be together, what's the next best thing? Solving a murder together, of course!

Get the adrenaline going while solving a fun murder mystery with family and friends. It's also the perfect subscription gift to give to anyone that has a serious competitive streak! Combine it with the Shaker & Spoon subscription above and really up your Zoom game!

In a nutshell? I'm a bit of a walking contradiction!

I love traveling the world and stepping out of my comfort zone, but I can also be a complete introvert and will be totally happy hanging out at home with my family for days on end. I enjoy working out and going for runs or HIIT classes at the gym, but I also have no problem binging on a bag of cheetos and a glass of wine (which pairs surprisingly well together!). I love how I look dressed up and ready to hit the town, but am much more comfortable in a pair of sweats while watching The Mandolorian with my husband and two little boys. I love trying exotic foods and the different spices and textures that come with it, but my all-time-favorite meal is a juicy cheeseburger with fries.

So, maybe I should just call myself well-rounded!? Whatever it is, I keep an open mind about everything and am always on the hunt for a new and exciting adventure!
