The 12 Best Kids Meal Delivery Services – 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards

Lindsey Morse
ByLindsey MorseAug 3, 2022 | 1 comment

Feeding kids isn’t always easy. You think you’re cooking up a delicious meal only to have them turn up their noses; they may only want pizza and mozzarella sticks every night. If you need a break sometimes or just want something that you can whip up in the midst of a busy weekday schedule, a kids meal subscription service might be the tastiest idea you’ve had in a while. But wait–getting your kids to eat something you made can be tough; is it even harder to get them to eat something from a subscription service?

Luckily, no.  Meals  are tested before they arrive at your home, and unlike most meal delivery services, kids meal subscriptions are suited to kids specifically. To choose the right options for your family though, you’ll need to do a little research, but we’ve made that process much easier.

Every year, we ask our readers to share their top recommended subscriptions of all types. Then we ask our experts to share what they know about each subscription to make it easy for you to know which subscription is right for you. Below, you’ll find our insights for shopping for kids' meal delivery subscription boxes and see readers’ top choices for the best meal kits for children of all ages.

What To Look For When Shopping for Kids Meal Delivery Subscriptions

As a parent, you’re probably ready to research every detail about kids meal subscriptions so you can pick one that your children will eat and like. Below, you’ll find plenty of excellent options, plus we’ve included plenty of information to help you find the perfect match for your family.  Keep the following in mind as you consider each subscription:

  • Dietary Restrictions. If you know your child is allergic to dairy or other foods–or just doesn’t like them–keep that in mind as you seek a subscription. Our list notes whether different options are available or whether alternate menu choices are limited.
  • Frequency. How often do you want meals to come to your home? You’ll have to decide whether you want to replace a single meal a day or several. You might want to start with the fewest meals available, so that you can get a feel for how your child feels about the food.
  • Cost. How important is it that the meals stay under a certain price point? Prices can rise as organic produce, wild-raised fish and other high-end foods come into the picture; think about your budget, but think about value and quality too.
  • Convenience. Do you want to cut down the time you spend in the kitchen? Do you need meals you can take with you? Our list details the prep times so you’ll know whether a subscription will save you time.

At the end of the list, we’ve also included tips for getting the most from your subscription, along with a list of the factors that our reviewers considered when writing about each brand.

The Most Popular Kids Meal Delivery Service Subscription Boxes

Read on for our reader’s recommendations for the best kids' meal delivery service subscriptions currently available. If we missed anything, drop us a comment. If you’ve tried one of these services, be sure to leave a quick review (even if you had a poor experience — your review can help other readers avoid subscription remorse).

What’s In This Meal Delivery Subscription Box

HelloFresh is a meal delivery service for the whole family – and in our readers’ experience, it’s one of the best ways to get kids running to the dinner table. You’ll choose the number of meals you receive each week, and by logging onto the company’s website, you can take control of the menu (if your kids hate broccoli, for instance, you’ll be able to switch out the offending meals before they end up on your table).

You’ll receive pre-portioned ingredients as well as a recipe, so it will take some time to cook a meal, but you can enlist the help of the kids; they may be more eager to try a meal they helped make. They offer the following categories:

  • Meat & Veggies
  • Veggie
  • Family Friendly
  • Fit & Wholesome
  • Quick & Easy
  • Pescatarian

Compared with other meal delivery kits, HelloFresh is remarkably affordable (you can usually get a number of meals for free as a new subscriber), and our readers rave about the quality of the fare. HelloFresh is an excellent choice for building your kids’ palates by introducing them to new foods, but the recipes are simple enough to keep younger children interested. The service also earned top marks on our list of Best Meal Kit Delivery Subscriptions overall.

Is It the Right Kids Meal Delivery Service for You?

If you need accommodations for special diets, HelloFresh works with you. HelloFresh subscriptions can be customized to cut out certain meats (Beef-Free, Pork-Free, and Seafood-Free options are available). It has a vegetarian option, but no vegan option, so you’ll need to review recipes regularly if you’re avoiding animal products. The Quick and Family-Friendly plans are especially well-suited to younger eaters, and if you’re looking for a way to simplify your meal planning, we’d recommend starting with one of those options.

Pros

  • With one of the largest menus of any meal delivery service, Hello Fresh keeps things exciting.
  • The service offers recipes with varying difficulty levels.
  • “Quick and easy” meals are excellent for picky eaters (yes, even the younger ones).
  • It’s easy to pause, cancel, or modify your subscription.

Cons

  • Accommodating some specific diets requires careful meal selection.
  • While the service often uses organic ingredients, not all of the recipes are organic.
  • Affordable, but not the least expensive option.

How to Get The Most Out of Your Kids Meal Delivery Service Subscription Once You’ve Picked

Once you’ve picked out the right box for you, follow our steps to help make sure you make the most of your new subscription.

  • Seek out discounts. Subscriptions can often be more affordable than a trip to the grocery store when you consider the individual cost of each ingredient, but adding another weekly cost onto your existing budget is never something to be taken lightly. If you can save money, it’s smart to do so–and meal delivery services often offer new subscribers discounts.. Check out our Deals page and our brand pages for discount codes before you sign up for any subscription to see if there’s a good deal to be had.
  • Customize your meals. Most of these services allow you to avoid certain foods and meals. Make sure you log into your account every week to check that the meals being sent to your home are the meals you want. This is an especially important step if you’re dealing with a picky eater or one who cannot eat certain foods.
  • Ask your children what they like. You may be hyped about the nutrition value of the food, certain meals might look good to you, but you need someone’s opinion: your kids! Directly ask them how they feel about the new food their eating and involve them in picking some of the other meals too.
  • Re-assess frequency. Periodically, evaluate how well a subscription is working. Do you need to order more meals for the kids? Less? Try to find the sweet spot where you’re making great meals for the kids, they’re still enjoying the subscription meals and your wallet is happy.
  • Try several kits to find a service that best works for your family. One meal subscription may be working well, but when you try several subscriptions, you’ll be able to try new meals and keep things exciting. Even more importantly, you’ll have a crystal clear  idea of which box appeals most to your children (and you). And if you find a service you love, be sure to leave a review on MSA to help other readers make their decisions.

Factors We Considered When Reviewing These Kids Meal Delivery Service Subscriptions

This list features our fellow subscription fanatics’ top choices, and we can confidently recommend the subscriptions above since we’ve researched and reviewed them all. Factors we considered when reviewing these subscriptions include:

  • Kid Appeal - While no two kids are alike, most young eaters aren’t ready for dishes loaded with complex flavors. Where possible, we noted whether these meal kits would appeal to children who prefer simple flavors. Our readers and staff reviewers let us know which subscriptions had the most kid-friendly choices, and we only included boxes that got lots of thumbs-ups and empty plates from the little ones in our lives (but remember, every child is unique).
  • Flexibility - We looked for meal kits that allow subscribers to pause, cancel, or manage their orders without doing too much work. Most of the kits on this list have extensive menu options, which should help parents mix and match to find options that work well for their families.
  • Reliability- Whether you’re counting on these meals to act as snacks for your kids or to replace several meals during the week, you need to be able to count on the subscription company to do their part. We’ve included only those brands that have positive reviews for customer service.

I just started Nuture Life for myself as I do not cook and am a grazer during the day. I am over the frozen meals I get at the super market. So far the two meals I tried were wonderful. They are super healthy and calories wise, on point. The price of $7.99 (for 9) is high, but I think its worth to have these fresh meals that are super healthy and filling. I am doing every other week.
