The Walmart Beauty Box is a quarterly beauty sample subscription box from Walmart. They have recently offered a Limited-Edition Self-Care Beauty Box which is still available for purchase while stocks last. For $9.98 + free shipping, you receive six beauty items valued at over $32.00.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

With our beauty items, we also received a brochure describing each item we received in this Self-Care Limited Edition Beauty Box. I enjoyed the short blurbs about each of the items and checking out the retail items so I can feel good about what a deal I scored!

NYX On the Rise Mascara - FULL SIZE! - $10.97

I love makeup, so much so that I can probably count on one hand the number of days this year that I haven’t worn it. That being said, I have a favorite mascara that I have consistently used for the past 3ish years. I have tried out a lot of mascaras in my day, and my go-to continues to be Too Faced “Better than Sex” though I'm always on the lookout for a cheaper alternative. This NYX mascara features a plastic brush that is a bit fuller than most plastic brushes and prides itself on the lash-lifting volume it provides. I appreciated the pretty pink tube and the matte black formula, finding the mascara to go on evenly without clumping.  I applied 3 coats and was quite satisfied with my lengthened results. While it didn't give me quite as much volume as my tried-and-true brand, the price point of this mascara may just be worth that tiny difference in volume. Have you tried this mascara? What did you think about it?

Sukin Signature Foaming Facial Cleanser - Estimated Value $3.58 (Buy a 4.2 oz bottle for $8.98)

Interestingly enough, the pamphlet states "The self-care box: a limited-edition collection of six full-size products to help you feel your best." Hmmmmm....as you can tell this foaming facial cleanser isn't exactly full size but is enough to get quite a few uses out of. We recently received a Sukin toner mist in the regular Walmart Winter 2021 Beauty Box and while I don't really use that type of product, this facial cleanser was right up my alley. Gentle and non-drying it is designed for normal to oily skin types, and really did tighten my skin after using. I tend to be a bit oily so this was a great formula for me, but had my facial skin been dry, I may not have appreciated it. Complete with a subtle scent, this gel-like substance didn't lather like I expected, but rinsed off easily, leaving my skin clean and tight.

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier, Watermelon - Estimated Value $3.00 (Buy a 6 pack for $8.98)

If you read my Walmart Beauty Winter 2021 Beauty Box review, you would know that we received a single pack of a strawberry version of this powdery drink mix. I prefer plain tap water without the addition of powders, and didn't love, but also didn't hate the previous version I received. I gave this watermelon flavor a try and found it to be tolerable, but not my fave. My husband loves adding flavor to his water, so he appreciated the extra little packet in his lunch pail for work. Again, "full size" would mean we received a set of six, but maybe I'm just being fussy. What do you think?

WoodWick Mini Hourglass Candle - Estimated Value $3.00 (Buy a 9.7 oz candle for $16.87)

I've been reviewing the Walmart Beauty Boxes for quite a while, and when I see the larger-sized box in my mailbox, I always cross my fingers for another mini WoodWick candle, and this time it worked! While technically not full-sized, I count this as full-sized because to me it really is a full-size mini candle! I have to admit, I was a little surprised at the scent. For a winter box, I assumed we would receive something along the lines of cinnamon, balsam, or cranberry, but instead I received a scent called "coastal sunset". Pretty in pink, I definitely felt a spring vibe over a winter one but enjoyed the light beachy fragrance and the signature crackle of the wood wick. Another huge bonus was that this candle came in pristine condition - after receiving two shattered candles in the last limited-edition box, I was stoked to receive this mini in one--piece the first go around! Thank you bubble wrap!

Right now, my house is decked out in red and green for Christmas, so I placed this dainty little candle next to my great-grandmas chocolate pot I received back in 2009. It was a wedding gift to my great-grandparents back in October 1918, and I was the lucky recipient of this magnificent piece. Saying a little prayer while lighting, I had a special little moment remembering those that have passed on.

Find Your Happy Place Catching the Sunrise Foaming Bath Bomb - FULL SIZE! $4.97

I really love bath bombs, but you know who loves them even more than me? My youngest son, Charlie. Charlie loves bath bombs so much that last year for his birthday he requested a bath bomb craft kit. This year on his list to Santa, his number one wish more bath bombs. While I wanted to keep this citrus-shaped disk for myself, I knew it would make my son's day and let him have it. Sulfate and paraben-free, and containing shea butter, cocoa butter, and vitamin E, Charlie loved soaking in the citrus and mango flavored water. Just as a warning though, this does contain Yellow 5 dye and will leave your bath water looking like a tub full of pee. Just sayin'!

Daily Concept Exfoliating Body Scrubber - FULL SIZE! - $5.00

I've tried all the trends when it comes to scrubbers. From the Foreo to the Sonic Cleansing Brush, I've done it all, only to go back to the same old St. Ives Exfoliating Walnut Scrub. While the spendy tech options are nice, I kind of forget to use them, and hate replacing the heads and charging them, so then they get thrown into a drawer, never to be used again. Technically this is a body scrubber, but being so basic, and so effective, this dual-sided scrubber definitely did its job on my face as well. Obviously, a lot more abrasive than any of my other exfoliators, my skin felt brand new after using this thing! Paired with the Sukin Signature Foaming Facial Cleanser, my skin looked brighter and more even - all while being easy to use and cost-effective!

After a good face scrub, complete with my new cleanser I applied my usual makeup, giving the NYX mascara a try. You can see I have a decent amount of volume and definition at more than half the cost of my current brand! Tip: light your candle and listen to a free audiobook on the Libby app while practicing this fun self-care for a really relaxing (and deserved) experience!

Verdict

I have to say, Walmart Beauty has been stepping up their game. While I really enjoy the regular seasonal boxes, these Limited-Edition ones are where it's at for me. Honestly, I was hoping for a bit more of a winter theme, but I have to say I found all items in this box useful. I could have done without the Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier packets, but my husband did actually like them, so all in all it was a win. Of course, the mini WoodWick candle was my favorite, with the scrubber, cleanser, mascara, and bath bomb tying for second. Like I mentioned above, the pamphlet did mention we were receiving six full-sized items, so I feel that wording could be changed to reflect what we actually received, but because of the amazing curation, I'm not even mad. What did you think of this Self-Care Limited Edition box? Were you as impressed as I was?

The total value of this quarter's box came out to be about $30.52, which is a little bit lower than the suggested value of $32.00, but still a good deal as it was worth triple the cost of the box. Receiving all of the full-sized items this month was exciting, and the items were curated so well that I am really tempted to order another one.

I received a candle with Frasier Fir scent. The crackling sound definitely took me by surprise the first time I lit it. Overall, a great deal.

I am so jealous Kelly! I would have loved the Frasier Fir candle! I just ordered 4 balsam scented candles from Bath and Body works because it’s the only scent my husband can tolerate. The crackling is awesome with those wood wick candles, but I have found (or my husband found rather) that our furnace filter needed to be changed more often when burning those… we pulled it out and it was black…. whoops!
