The Walmart Beauty Box is a quarterly beauty sample subscription box from Walmart. When you sign up you will answer a series of questions about your skin tone, skin concerns, hair type, and more. The answers are used to provide a more personalized experience so that they can tailor your box to you.

Normally the box is $6.98 + free shipping, but if you were an active subscriber that was signed up from the Summer 2021 box or before, you could upgrade to this Mindful Limited Edition box instead of the Fall seasonal box for an extra $3.00.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

We received a pamphlet describing every item that could be included in your box. While they didn't share exactly how many items you would receive, two sections read "receive one of these two products" giving me a total of 7 items in this box. Let's dive in and see what I received.

What's Inside the "Mindful" Box

Real Techniques Sponge - Full Size! Retail Value $4.66

I received this same sponge in the regular Fall Seasonal box and found it comfortable and easy to use. And with the help of the video tutorial on the Real Techniques website, a great way to apply makeup that is perfectly blended not only on my face but into my hairline and neckline as well, all while leaving my hands clean. I really enjoy receiving full-sized items in this box and am happy to have a spare sponge for future use.

cleen beauty Lavender Chamomile Night Cream - Full Size! Retail Value- $9.97

I am a sucker for anything lavender scented, especially in full size! I struggle with anxiety, so lavender oil is pretty much my BFF. I have tried a few products from the cleen line in the past and liked them quite well, so I was excited to give this lavender chamomile night cream a shot. Upon opening the jar, I was greeted with a very light lavender aroma. Compared with Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy, this was very, very mild, but in a good way as it’s being put on your face. The formula is a bit thinner than my usual night cream, but rubbed in smooth and clean, without looking greasy. I appreciate the simple design and did feel my skin was softer when I woke up, all without clogging my pores.

Alaffia Authentic African Black Soap All-in-One - Estimated Value $0.56 (Buy a 32 oz container for $8.95)

Hooray for another lavender-scented item! Like I said above, this scent is a must to help keep my anxiety at bay, and I am always looking for new ways to incorporate it with my daily routines. The bronze shimmery color looks beautiful pouring out of the container, and it has a subtle scent that doesn’t have a ton of staying power. Personally, I would prefer this soap to be stronger in smell but did like the formula and how multi-purposeful it is. This Alaffia Authentic African Black Soap is handcrafted from a centuries-old recipe, using Certified Fair Trade unrefined shea butter. After looking into this company a bit deeper, I was impressed to find out that Alaffia aims to alleviate poverty and advance gender equality through the Certified Fair Trade of indigenous resources and community empowerment initiatives. Also funded by the sales of these items are empowerment projects that help provide assistance in building schools, planting trees, and distributing bicycles. A great brand supporting a great cause.

Burt's Bees Squeezy Tinted Lip Balm - Full Size! Retail Value $4.74

While I enjoy the look of a bold lipstick, I am more of a lip balm person in my day-to-day life, so receiving this Burt’s Bees Squeezy Tinted Lip Balm was a treat. Though I would rather have a lip balm in stick form, I appreciate the uniqueness of this tube and am quite fond of the formula. I myself didn’t find the tint to be very vivid - it looked pretty natural on me, but I did like the shimmery, glossy effect it created. Being fruity in smell and taste, I found this balm to be a great addition to my jean jacket pocket for quick applications throughout the school day to help keep those chapped lips away!

Hello Extra Freshening Mouthwash - Estimated Value $1.11 (Buy a 16 oz bottle for $5.96)

I typically don’t use a lot of mouthwash, but when I do it is Listerine. That might be why I don’t use it all that often because it sets my mouth ablaze! I have never tried Hello mouthwash and was intrigued by the addition of activated charcoal. The mint flavor was different from other mint products as it made my mouth feel cold rather than actually tasting like a mint. Along with the mint, I noticed a slight coconut flavor, and while odd, found it a bit refreshing. My breath definitely was more fresh after using this and I didn’t feel like I could breathe fire, so I am pleased that they sent such a large amount to use!

WoodWick Mini Hourglass Candle - Estimated Value $3.00 (Buy a 22 oz candle for $21.87)

Every year for Christmas, my sister picks out a new WoodWick candle for my dining room table. Not only do I love the lingering scent of a candle, but I find the soft glow extremely comforting - when I initially discovered these wood wick candles and the crackling sound they make, I became obsessed. Seeing this tiny WoodWick in my box was the highlight of my day....though my initial candle came damaged, after reaching out to customer service, I received a replacement. Super adorable and smelling exactly like fall, the fireside scent is one of my favorites. Neutral in color, this candle would complement a variety of decor and is just a really fun inclusion.

Bliss Clear Genius Clarifying Cleanser - Estimated Value $3.11 (Buy a 6.4 oz bottle for $9.97)

I didn't realize the Bliss brand was founded in 1996, but I do remember receiving the signature blue tube of body butter back in middle school and have been a fan ever since. I have tried a variety of their products and haven't found anything that I didn't enjoy using. This clear genius gel cleanser is new to me, and I was excited to give it a whirl. Not only is the simplistic packaging chic and appealing, but I love the bubbles in the formula itself - it almost looks glittery! The formula was extremely gentle and only had a slight scent, not burning my eyes when using it. I found it cleansed well and was the consistency I like - not too thin, yet not too thick. Paired with my Makeup Eraser, my full face of makeup was completely clean and spotless in two minutes flat! Something I would definitely consider a win.

Verdict

If you read my regular Fall Walmart review, you'll notice I enjoyed the items but felt the number of items and quality could have been improved. Looking at this upgraded box, I am feeling much more impressed (especially after I received my replacement candle.) Every brand I received was either one I regularly purchase, but a new product to me, or a really impressive product that I otherwise wouldn't have probably discovered had it not been for this box. I love the full-sized items and felt this was a very strong curation. To be fair I do wish they would have opened this upgrade up to any subscriber, but hope this is the beginning of something wonderful. What did you think about this box?

The total value of this Mindful Limited Edition box came out to be about $27.15, which is pretty impressive for the $9.98 it cost to upgrade to this box. Because we received 4 full-sized items (I'm counting the candle as full size because I think it deserves it) I was extremely happy with this box. Honestly, every item in this box is something I will use, and actually want to use. I think the $3 upgrade was the way to go this month, and hope they offer this option more in the future.

To Wrap Up

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, the upgraded Mindful box was only available as an upgrade to those that had subscriptions starting with the Summer 2021 box or before. Right now the regular fall box is currently shipping while supplies last.

Value Breakdown: At $9.98 shipping for this box and 7 items, you are paying approximately $1.42 per item which is crazy awesome!

I didn’t get my upgraded box. I changed my address (before the deadline I might add) but they didn’t update it on their end on time. So I’m hoping that I can get it forwarded. Customer service is pretty terrible, it can takes week for them to respond. Initially they said they’d look at my account and send out another box if I had updated it in time, but needed the correct address. Then they close my ticket saying they updated my address for me and gave me instructions on how to update even though my account already showed my new address.

Other than the $10 I’m out I don’t think I missed much. Lavender gives me terrible headaches and peppermint causes skin reaction. Plus I’m allergic to lanolin and beeswax, I’m a mess lol. I could have used a couple things, but I would have given away over half the box.

My box also came in all taped up, but I was very lucky in that all my items were safe somehow, even the candle. The box itself was very flimsy cardboard like a cereal box, so it’s no wonder so many people had busted up boxes. Not sure why Walmart chose that packaging for such a heavy content box.

Other than that I loved my box. I’ll use everything I got, and I’ll be rebuying Woodwick candles going forward because they’re really nice.

I’m glad you enjoyed your box PLASTIC_CUP! I’m really quite curious how many peoples boxes weren’t taped up or damaged! Aren’t those candles fun? I am obsessed!

Hi Becca! Haha surprisingly my box was in pristine shape when I got it

I received the upgraded box well “package”, but it was completely destroyed and most of the items were missing (they may have fallen out). I only received a broken glass candle that I couldn’t use and a smashed-up sponge, that’s it. I tried contacting customer service by email but no response.

I also received a box that was destroyed and was covered in tape. The only thing inside was the sponge. I contacted customer service and it took 12 days to get a reply. Judging by the comments here I am guessing that receiving a damaged box was a common occurrence and they are being swamped with complaints. Hopefully you will get a response soon.

Thanks for commenting Laurinda! I hope Customer Service gets back to you soon, it seems like a lot of people had problems with their orders. Hopefully they will get you a replacement box!

Bummer! I upgraded to this box and it seemed short to me. I was missing two items! I had everything here but no Burt’s Bees, and no Bliss cleanser. 🙁

Thanks for commenting Susan! I would definitely reach out to customer service!

I received my regular Wal Mart beauty box yesterday, not the upgraded one. I was a little disappointed because I did not receive every item that was stated in the flyer that would be in the box. I’ll keep doing this subscription box. It is very affordable and you usually get good stuff but this was a disappointment.

The flyer is just listing what might’ve been in your box. You only actually get some of them.

I got the same box, and also had a broken candle. Customer service is also sending me out a new one, which is great of them!! Honestly my candle was only broken on the top part I was able to scrap some wax out and use the rest of the candle and am now a huge fan of the wood wick!!
This was a great box overall. I am keeping my fingers crossed they will someday be a monthly box!! However I do like opening up my mailbox randomly and finding a Walmart BB in there 🙂

Do you remember the email address you used to contact customer service? I emailed them because I only receive the candle in which the glass was completely broken and a smashed-up sponge (that’s it) but still haven’t heard back from them about a replacement box.

Hmm, I’m subscribed to this and I don’t remember seeing an email about updating. Guess I missed it. I definitely would have upgraded to this.

That’s what I was coming to find out, how was this offered? I don’t remember getting this offer and I’ve been a subscriber for years. :/

I’m so mad at myself that I didn’t see the email about upgrading my Walmart box in time to get this box instead of the regular fall box. I really wanted a candle.

Snow

I wouldn’t fret too much as it is only a $3 candle.
