LUXSB is a fragrance subscription box for men and women (formerly known as Luxury Scent Box). Each month you will receive 9 mL (about 0.3 fl oz) of a designer fragrance. You can accept the fragrance of the month, you can choose scents based on a short profile survey, or you can just build a calendar of scents on your own.

There are two subscription options:

  • The Standard Plan for $15 a month and includes one 9 mL travel spray
  • The Premium Plan for $18 a month and includes one 9 mL travel spray and access to premium items

LUXSB also gives active members the option to upgrade your subscription to the Duo plan, which includes one case and two premium or non-premium perfumes per month.

This is a review of the standard plan for $15/month + free shipping.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

LUXSB April 2020 Review

There were some instructions for using the holder.

There was also a card with more information about the fragrance and the perfumer.

The fragrances come with a little velour bag if you want to protect the vials in your purse.

On to the fragrance:

Crazy for Oud by Mancera - Estimated Value $13.50 (Buy 120 mL for $180)

This is the scent of the month for April; if you get the scent of the month you will usually also receive a card specific to the fragrance with some LUXSB branding on it as well. I also received a Mancera fragrance in January and I absolutely loved it so I had high hopes going in.

Before I get into discussing the various notes, I wanted to point out that this one has great longevity and really, really powerful sillage, like so much that my husband, who was sitting 10 or 12 feet away, left after I sprayed it and went down into the garage to do some woodworking because he said the scent was awfully strong. (It didn't bother me...) So I would suggest using a light touch; in fairness, I did pretty much douse myself in it to try it out.

Anyway, the base notes include woody notes, amber, vanilla, oakmoss, and white musk so this one was off to a good start and is likely something I would have chosen on my own, if I had a regular subscription. Mid notes include rose, magnolia, and violet, as well as tiramisu and patchouli. I don't think I've ever seen "tiramisu" as a note before but I guess that would be a little sweet and maybe with a hint of something like rum? Top notes include bergamot, oud, and leather.

This one is unisex, which you could probably tell from the listed notes. The floral notes are not very intense although they are definitely present. But this isn't so floral as to be feminine, if that makes sense. If you were picking seasons or times of day to go with this one, it makes me think of autumn and evening or night, but then, I would say the same for most of the fragrances I like. It's a little bit similar to the fragrance I received last month, but there are some subtle differences, and since I am receiving perfumes I really like wearing, I don't mind a few variations on a theme.

Like with some of the other fragrance subscriptions, you’ll receive purse-sized holders for your fragrances. These are slightly larger than the ones from Scentbird or Scent Box. How often you get a new holder depends on your subscription plan.

Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $13.50. Although that is a little lower than the month-to-month cost of the subscription, it is pretty close, and since I really like the scent, I am OK with that. (LUXSB has knocked it out of the park two months in a row for me now.) I am definitely a fan of Mancera fragrances now, and I probably wouldn't have discovered them otherwise.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance.

Value Breakdown: This subscription is $15/monthly and this month, I received $13.50 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent you choose).

Love LUXSB. Tried other boxes and LUXSB is larger size. I feel ike it last me more then a month supply. Thank you for the information, I’m on the duo plan and it’s a better valued. I love Vanilla, just added Instant Crush to my calendar.

How ,uch is the dup plan?! And how many ml’s do you get with that??

So the second level you basically pay to get access to buy a bottle from them?! Are there discounts on that??

I signed up for the premium level and none of the discounts worked for me. Darn! The next level up also gives a holder each month which I liked so I could change scents easily without having to swap out the holder. Plus includes premium which were the scents I seemed to choose.

I have been really enjoying your reviews and you seem to be so knowledgeable about scents. I went to sign up but was having difficulty with choosing a scent. I did the survey a couple of times and the ones chosen for me were not a fit. Any guidance you could give me would be appreciated. I seem to prefer more unisex scents, not too floral and like amber and vanilla. Is it better to get the scent of the month and would you recommend the premium plan? Thank you!

I would also reach out to LUXSB for some guidance. I did and they were very helpful, I’m set up now for 12 months scent schedule. I have been subscribed now for over a year. The customer service is outstanding. They responded to my email same day . I think the promo code doesnt work on premium membership. I’m on the premium one as well but then upgraded to the duo plan. Originally heard about them from a friend and checked it out on My Sub Addiction. I love it!

It sounds like you might have similar taste to me, I also like unisex scents and some of the same notes you mentioned (and I am also not a big fan of florals). That being the case, if you want to just fill your queue, you might take a look at my past reviews for this box and see if I liked the fragrances they sent and start off with some of those. As for premium, it will depend on whether the scents are in the premium tier or not, I don’t have access to that information because I don’t have a regular account so I can’t log in and look.

Scent of the month might not be too bad, either, as I have better luck with LuxSB’s scent of the month than some of the other fragrance subscriptions, just from a personal preference standpoint.

Also if you find you like one perfumer (like I am finding myself to be a fan of Mancera scents), you could try choosing a couple from the same perfumer in future months.

Thank you so much. I have followed your reviews but never thought about going back and looking at your favorites. Why didn’t I think of that. You are brilliant. Lol! We do have very similar preferences which is why I am finally ready to subscribe based on your reviews.
