Walmart Beauty Box "Hydration Heroes" Winter 2018 Review

I used to subscribe to this box a long time ago, and since then it looks like they have added a lot of questions to their sign-up page, hopefully, to provide a more personalized experience to subscribers. They ask your ethnicity, hair color, skin concerns, and a few other preferences. I selected dry skin and hair for mine, so this hydration-themed box is definitely a good choice for me!

*Note: I did sign up for this box at the beginning of April and received this winter box and I am not sure when their cut off date is, but you should be able to tell from the confirmation email they send which box you'll be receiving!

We received this little card giving us the box theme of Hydration Heroes as well as some info about reviewing the products and a link to a survey.

Walmart Cosmetic Bag

I think it's fun that Walmart Beauty Box is stepping up their game and included this hydration-themed cosmetic bag in the box. It's the perfect size to hold our goodies, and while I may not use this because I have plenty already, I think my daughter will enjoy keeping her "treasures" inside!

Olay Daily Facials, 1 Cloth - Estimated Value $0.14 (Buy a 66-count for $8.99)

This Daily Facial is actually a dry cloth that you wet then work into a lather in your hands before rubbing it on your face for cleansing. It felt kind of weird to rub the soap onto my face with the cloth instead of just using my hands and since it is a bit of a rougher cloth, it was exfoliating, but not necessarily comfortable on my skin. In addition to a cleanser and exfoliator, this cloth is also meant to remove makeup, tone, and hydrate your face, although I had to go over my eye makeup several times to remove it all. Then, I rinsed the cloth and wiped the soap off of my face with it. I usually use reusable cotton rounds at home, so this product feels a bit wasteful to me, but I do have to say, my skin looked great after using it!

Pantene Pro-V Rescue Shots Ampoules, 1 Ampuole - Estimated Value $1.66 (Buy 3 for $4.97)

I was not too excited about this product because I have quite the stash of hair masks in my bathroom right now, but this rescue shot ampoule really surprised me! I have never colored my hair so I don't have any damage from that, but I do have a lot of post-partum breakages and some split ends, and I swear after using this stuff, the ends of my hair looked great! I let my hair completely air dry with no product (which I never do) and it was so smooth and healthy looking! You don't even have to leave the formula on to sit, you simply work it into the ends of your hair and rinse right away. This tube is actually three treatments, but I have already used it twice and still have some for at least two more uses!

SooAE Unicorn Glow Hologram Mask - Retail Value $2.50

I wanted to like this mask, but it was just not for me. The "hologram" effect is a layer of foil over the front (my husband said I looked like Bicentennial Man) that made it heavy and want to slip off of my face. Then when I removed the mask the serum did not absorb into my skin hardly at all, but instead felt really tacky, so much so that I washed it all off of my face.

Biore Charcoal Cleansing Micellar Water - 2.5 oz Value $1.62 (Buy a 10 oz bottle for $6.47)

I have tried a lot of other charcoal products, but this is the first time I've seen it in micellar water! I used this on what I thought was a clean face and I actually came away with some dirt, so I think it definitely works! It does tingle slightly when I put it on and while it says you can use it without rinsing, I still opted to rinse afterward since I could still feel a bit of residue on my face.

Curel Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer, 2 oz. - Estimated Value $2.15 (Buy an 8-ounce bottle for $8.58)

I have actually purchased this item before and while it is not my favorite due to the smell (which is mild and unisex, but just a bit blah for me), I love the convenience of this stuff! You lather it on just before you get out of the shower and it absorbs quickly so that you can towel dry right away. It leaves my skin feeling smooth and fairly hydrated and is such a simple way to moisturize dry skin when you might be in a hurry!

Verdict: This box has an estimated value of $8.07 (not including the cosmetic bag) which is ok for a $5 box. I really liked the Rescue Shots and I was glad to receive a sheet mask, even though it didn't work out as well as I had hoped. I thought the sample sizes were pretty good and I liked that there was a theme along with a cosmetic bag. Overall, not too bad for a $5 box.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I’m so glad I cancelled. I checked to see if it had improved. But it has not.

Brandi,
You mentioned reusable cotton rounds which i had never heard of – I looked them up and it reminded me of a product i recently discovered and love!
Im sure you’ve heard of the “magic eraser” make up cloth that removes makeup with just water? It’s a microfiber cloth that will remove all makeup with only warm water. It really works!
The original was like $28 at Sephora but I found one for $2 at family dollar that works great – removed even waterproof mascara and eyeshadow with 2 swipes! There are also affordable multipacks on amazon. So no waste as theyre machine washable and no need to purchase makeup remover! (I still cleanse my face) Definitely worth checking out 🙂

Hi Karen! I am familiar with those, but I didn’t know they had less expensive versions! That’s awesome to know that they work, too! Thanks for the tip! 🙂

Double pass – and I like swisspers oval cotton rounds they really hold up have a smooth texture and a rigged side you can buy a lot of like 8 o amazon for cheap , I’ll never switch that brand 🙂

May I ask where you purchase your reusable cotton rounds?

I will also second the reusable cotton rounds! I toss them in a small dedicates bag after I use them, then wash them in hot water. Occasionally I’ll have to use a spot cleaner to get them back to bright, but they’re awesome. I got mine on etsy as well and they work better than the disposable ones because they won’t fall apart.

I have a few different sets from different shops on Etsy! The ones I have are “organic cotton hemp fleece” on one side which I’ve found works well. But I did see that Makeup Eraser has reusable rounds now and if they are anything like the original, I’m sure they are great!

I have not received my spring trendsetter box yet, but this is exactly what I received for the winter box. The bag in the spring pictures is different, can anyone confirm that is really what it looks like?
When did you sign up? I wonder if you’re still going to get a spring box too. Can you check your account and see if it says what box this was? I don’t want the exact same thing again.

I’m so confused because one email says that the Box with this particular bag is the Winter Box another says it’s the spring box I didn’t get a spring box but Walmart is saying that I did if so then I didn’t get the winter Box I don’t get it

Hi JMM, thanks so much for your comment! I went back and checked and you are correct, this is the winter 2018 box, so hopefully, you won’t be receiving a duplicate! All information has been updated now in the review! I didn’t sign up until the beginning of April so I assumed this was spring since it arrived so late, but maybe they are a bit behind since we are almost to summer now! 🙁

Thanks for the update Brandi!
I seem to have cursed myself, I got my spring box today and the only thing in it I might use is a packet of coconut oil. Now I would gladly take this box again. 🙂
