In addition to their bi-monthly subscription box, Luxor box also does Limited Edition boxes. This review is for their Special Edition Luxor Black Box. (No longer available).

The packaging on this box is fantastic. It's definitely a box you will want to keep and reuse for gifting or storage.

And every item came in its own packaging, so you could definitely break this box down into lots of gifts.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

FYI this box is no longer available for sale, but here are the box details:

The Box: Luxor Box Limited Edition Black Box

The Cost: $700 for US, $780 for Canada

Good to know: “Free shipping and will ship in the month of October, 2018. ALL Luxor BLACK boxes will be shipped with signature confirmation due to the high value of this box. Limited quantities and only available while supplies last. One time purchase, not a recurring subscription.”

The box comes with individual cards for each item included. First up:

Kiko Versatile Shoulder Bag – Retail Value $225

I discovered Kiko thanks to Luxor and I really am impressed with the quality of their leather goods. (I always expect the retail price to actually be more than it is.) The Kiko leather tote from Luxor's Travel Box is one of my all-time favorite Luxor items.

This pebbled-leather bag is a shoulder bag and backpack in one. It features an adjustable shoulder strap + adjustable backpack straps.

It has a zippered top, and inside there are open pockets and a zippered pocket.

Here it is on as a shoulder bag:

And as a backpack:

My only critique is that I wish the straps were removable so that when you are wearing it as a shoulder bag the backpack straps weren't hanging from it. Aside from that, it's great!

Kiko Top Zip Wallet – Retail Value $65

This wallet has the same pebbled leather material as the bag. And the design of this wallet is perfect for me.

It snaps shut, but also has a zippered section that is large enough to fit cash, receipts, etc. And there are plenty of pockets for cards, cash etc.

Halcyon Days Palladium Sparkle Button in Snow Leopard Print – Retail Value $215

This bangle features the classic Halycon Days claps, but this one is encrusted with glass crystals!

The snow leopard print is surrounded by palladium plating. Here it is on:

And we have more jewelry:

LaSoula Jewelry Lux Baguette Diamond Earrings – Retail Value $750

LaSoula Jewelry Lux Baguette Diamond Necklace – Retail Value $800

This necklace features a sterling silver chain and a diamond total wt: 0.224. It's super delicate and the chain is about 18 inches long. (The diamond piece measures about 1 cm across.)

Here is the necklace on:

This is the perfect amount of sparkle for me - I think it will be lovely layered with a few other necklaces, too.

And the earrings match the necklace:

These earrings have a diamond total wt: 0.248 and they are small and delicate just like the necklace. (They measure just over 1/2 a cm in length.)

Rose et Marius Neou Beige Tumbler + Wooden Floor Candle – Retail Value $150

Rose et Marius Tomato Red Tumbler + Rose Wine Candle – Retail Value $150

Inside the box are two tumblers with candles:

These tumblers can be used with their refillable candles and/or diffusers. (They cast a beautiful glow with a lit candle inside.)

These tumblers are porcelain, hand-painted, and accented with platinum. And once you burn through the candle (60 hour burn time), you can put these tumblers in the dishwasher to clean them.

And the tumblers come with a certificate of authenticity:

Verdict: This box has a value of about $2355. That's a crazy value to even type, but considering the box costs $700, I think it's a good value. (With 7 items in this box for $700, that works out to $100 an item.)

Obviously, this is a lot of money to spend on a mystery box, so I appreciate that Luxor Box spoiled the LaSoula diamond necklace and earrings upfront. If you were happy with those items at the $700 price, I think all the other items would likely be a hit for you, too. Luxor box played it safe with this box and delivered brands + items that are super popular with their subscribers. And at this price point, I think playing it safe is the way to go! (And I appreciate that there are no beauty items in this box - just a good mix of jewelry, leather goods, and home items.) Nothing feels like "filler" in this box.

I tried Luxor Box for 6 months. It was crap. Even got conned into buying one of their mystery boxes. There was a $200 scarf in there…I found the exact style, color, and BRAND on Amazon for $6.95. NOT EVEN SEVEN DOLLARS!!! It was a few years back, so I don’t remember all the details, but I ran into that issue a few times. This box (AND COMPANY) is just crap. Plain and simple. Save your money. Save the headache!!!

What in the world would make someone spend $800 for a mysterious selection of overpriced items.

For that amount of money, I could get exactly what I wanted in the store. The suggested retail prices are a joke – diamond chips set in sterling can be found quite inexpensively – diamond chips have almost no value – candles? and a leather bag and wallet when the stores are filled with sale leather bags that would be exactly what I would want instead of a bag that a manufacturer is trying to unload.

Um, this necklace isn’t worth $800 – I just checked on La Soula’s website and it’s listed for $580, the original necklace on the info card is $800 but they’ve obviously switched it out. Nice try, Luxor.

Actually, no. This necklace isn’t in their site. Something that looks a lot like it is available for $580. … But that’s weird, since the $580 necklace is twice as long as the one in this set. 20mm versus the 10 mm one in this set. (And thus a higher carat tw of .34 versus .224 karat in this necklace.)
THIS looks just like the set listed on their site for $1550 except that it’s horizontal except vertical. Which is odd. I can’t imagine why they would make necklaces that are horizontal, not vertical, just for Luxor. I wonder if it was a mistake. O.o

All that being said, $1550 for that set is NUTS. I’ll often defend a higher price point for well-designed jewelry despite a lack of, say, solid gold/silver vs the oft-included gold plated since I figure I paying for the design. (We typically pay more for clothing that just what the fabric itself is worth.) But there isn’t much to this design. I don’t see anything special here that merits $1550.

Oh, really? That’s SO strange…. (and going by that, shouldn’t this necklace technically be worth half of $580, so $290?). I don’t understand Luxor, honestly.

I gotta say, for $700 I just don’t feel it. The bag looks a bit silly as a backpack and as Liz pointed out you cannot remove the straps to make it look like a real purse or a real backpack. The diamond jewelry, well the close ups show the inconsistent manor in which the diamonds are set and the bad cuts, as well as not even being set in gold. The bracelet is ok if you like animal prints. I do love the candles but would never pay that much for a candle, and it appears the gold one you got has some damage where the paint is scratched.
I know tons loved this box but it just seemed to me like un-sellable items or items that did not pass quality control.
Perhaps I am just being to harsh on the box.

I’d like to know why they switched the necklace. The one shown in all the promos is a vertical- hanging pendant.
But they sent a horizontally fixed baguette and round diamond chip with a split chain ( much more likely to break than a solid chain is).

Also, pebble grain leather is barely leather, IMO. I would have not liked the leather items at all.

I like the Rose et Marius tumblers ( would not use them with candles though) and the Halcyon Days snow leopard bracelet. I have the silver and palladium honeycomb one and this is a much prettier enameled bracelet IMO.

I’d like to find the tumblers and bracelet for sale, but really, the lower priced items in the box are my favorites because I demand higher quality from my jewelry and designer bags which I choose as luxury pieces, not sub box items.

I don’t know much about leather – is pepple grain leather cheaper quality?

Jessica

I have a new one from a Luxor box for sale on an auction site at far, far less than retail. It’s the silver and palladium honeycomb one. In case you didn’t want to pay $700 for this box …

I didn’t get this box; but ordered the regular mystery box. I was very happy!

The value received easily exceeded their promised value, using current on sale values.

I have found customer service very responsive and respectful. I have read many negative comments about some past experiences; that has not been the case for me. I had a questions prior to shipping, before receiving and a mishap with one of my boxes…CS has responded thoughtfully and quickly each and every time 😊

I ordered a mystery box to give the whole thing as a gift. I had to wrap it before I peeked – I’ll be just as surprised as she is on Christmas day. And no temptation to steal anything out of it!

Anna

You may want to check to be sure nothing is damaged because you only have a couple of days to email if there’s an issue with quality.

Sarah

I loved my mystery box too!! So many great Christmas presents in it!
