New Beauty Test Tube is a bi-monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Every other month they send you a tube full of deluxe and full-size beauty samples and you also get a subscription to New Beauty Magazine. It’s a little pricier than other beauty subscriptions, but in general, the value is usually great. (FYI – this is a different subscription from the QVC New Beauty Test Tube which is no longer shipping).

Each box comes with a booklet detailing the items included. There is some variation in products subscribers may get, and the booklet typically covers all possible items. (There are usually some items not pictured in the booklet as well - I'm guessing these items will have more variation).

Klorane Make-Up Remover Biodegradable Wipes - Value $13 (NOT listed in the booklet)

Thanks to subscription boxes, I almost never have to buy makeup remover wipes! I've used these before and they work well and have a pleasant scent, too!

CHI 44 Iron Guard Style & Spray - 2.6 oz Value $4

This hairspray is designed to be used on hair before you use any heated styling tools. I like that it adds extra protection for your hair and it actually smells a lot better than most hairsprays to me! Of course, this works as a regular hairspray too - that's how I used it!

Board and Batten Calming Lift - 1 oz Value $14

This spray is so refreshing! You can use it as a facial mist to hydrate your skin or as a hair spray to condition damp hair. I think it works best as a facial mist. The description says it works to give your hair a little fragrance, but I found that the rose water scent lasted only for a few moments after spraying it.

Oral Essentials Mouthwash Whitening -  Travel Size (2 oz) Value $4

This was... interesting. I probably should have read about it a little before trying it - I would have known to expect a natural tasting mouthwash. I think I got used to the taste, but it probably isn't something I would buy in the future.

Gavee Gold Liquid Gold Peptides - 8 ml Value $39.75

This packaging is kind of amazing! This serum is designed to boost hydration and collagen. It's a thin gel-like formula, and it goes on and dries almost immediately. The ingredient looks pretty good, too! (Picture of the serum below.)

Cailyn 7 in 1 Liquid Gel Liner - Sample Size - Value $10?

1 of the 7 features of this eyeliner is how quickly it dries. I can confirm that it dries in about 30 seconds, so you'll probably want a steadier hand than I was using when I tried swatching it:

Tip from Cailyn: "Use less pressure to create a thin and diffused line, while adding more pressure will create a bold defined line." As you can see - I haven't mastered that part yet!

Grande Naturals Brow Fill in Light - FULL SIZE! Value $20

This is basically mascara for your brows, and it works well to fill out your eyebrows and also to hold them in place. I liked the formula, but the light shade is the wrong color for me.

IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Powder Brush - Value $48 (NOT listed in the booklet)

I love IT Cosmetics AND I love this brush - what an awesome item to get in this box! The major thing I want to call out, though, is that this isn't listed in the booklet, so not all subscribers will receive it as one of their non-booklet items. Dear New Beauty Test Tube, please make all It Cosmetics products booklet items in the future!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $153. That value is amazing, but some of that value is from the non-booklet items, so I'm not sure how the value will average for all subscribers. I am happy to see New Beauty Test Tube introduce some new brands this month - sometimes this subscription can get a little too Mally-repetitive for me. What do you think of the March New Beauty Test Tube?

In my last box there were only drugstore products, vitamins and leave-in conditioners. I think I waited far too long to cancel my subscription. There is no value to it anymore. The only subscription I kept is Beauty DNA, which I learned about through this blog. So, my thanks for that.

Thanks for the reviews – so helpful!!!

I’ve been a Test Tube subscriber for a few years and I *always* seem to get extra items of lesser value than I see others receive. I’ve never received any brushes or any of the nicer “extra” items. This time, my extra item was an Amore Pacific cushion compact in a SUPER dark color so I can’t even try it to see if I like the formula…

ALSO, has anyone noticed that the boxes are going down in quality/value? I used to like a few of the items in each box, and now I am wondering if it’s worth the HIGH price tag because I only end up using 1-2 things from each box lately…

Given that many of the products in the boxes are FREE SAMPLES and PROMOTIONAL items from the manufacturers, why is the cost of this box so high?

Yes I’ve noticed the value going down. The June one is better so I will stick with it a little longer. I’ve subbed to New Beauty for at least 4.5 years now.

I actually subscribed to this one for many years, I think 5. I finally just I subscribed because it’s so not exciting anymore… Same old brands, lots of repeat items. Even the brush, I got it a while back in the test tube, it’s not new… Meh

I received the Amore pacific item and it’s not even my color. I do get a bit disgusted when bloggers get different items. My extra item is 1. Unusable and 2. Not equal in value ( sample size). For those of us that pay, I just want equal treatment.

Amen. Too many boxes do the blogger favoritism. It’s the name of the consumer game.

Yup got my tube no brush.what a surprize.i was so disappointment .they are scammers

Olivia

I was so excited to get the IT brush in my box! I’ve been wanting that brush for quite some time. I almost threw it away though, it was covered with tissue paper hidden in the bottom of the shipping box!

My non booklet item wasn’t the It Cosmetics brush, which is sad as I love that line but a teeny tiny sample of Amore Pacific cushion compact in a shade much too dark for me. Sad that they put something universally usable in some boxes but not in all. Also sad that this was my first box from them and I am disappointed.

I received the brush and it’s so luxurious! I’ve used a lot of the products and have been very happy with them all. The mouthwash really does seem to whiten well!

I received the same exact box, except the Gavee Gold serum jar was empty!!! So disapointed!!

I just wanted to tell you, Liz, I really like the new layout for the mobile website. It is MUCH better and more user friendly!

I wasn’t too impressed with the selections this time around and they didn’t send me the it brush. I’ve received it in a prior box probably a year ago. ?

The IT brush is a good quality brush but the handle broke off about a week after I got it. So be careful using it. The glue attaching it to the handle is terrible.

I love your honest reviews and am so glad you called out the fact that you got items that aren’t listed on the info card. I get a little peeved when bloggers get items that may not be included in everyone’s box and feel it’s deception in order to get a better review. I would like to try this box but how do I know what I would get? (Rhetorical) 🙂

?????

Hi, S
I get this subscription, too. I just received my Test Tube, a couple of days ago & I’m happy to report, I got the exact same items as Liz! (Box Twins☺️).. As far back as I can remember, I’ve always received the same items as her and if not, it’s always equal the value. I don’t think they send out special boxes, to bloggers, etc.. I have received the highest number of actual “finds” that I repurchase, in the New Beauty Test Tube! The rest of my subscriptions I haven’t been as lucky! (and I have them ALL?) Hope that helps! XO
PS. Liz & anyone interested… I was lucky enough to be picked to be a part of the “Gaveé Golds'” 6 week, test market for the entire line, through New Beauty.. My skin has NEVER looked so amazing!! My makeup looks flawless! I literally get compliments almost daily, on either my makeup or skin. I’m not sure what the difference is between GG & all my other skincare products (LaMer, Chanel, Estee Lauder, Clinique, etc) Gaveeé Gold is fantastic!! It’s pricey, though.. ?

Anya

Curious, how do you get to be part of the test market for a product through new beauty?

Liz Cadman

I bought my mom a subscription to this box, and from what I can tell we usually always get the same non-booklet items, but sometimes it is different. So I believe all subscribers get non-booklet bonus items in each box – but the value of those items will vary.

Still not to helpful in making a decision about this box, though – sorry! 🙁

I agree! Bloggers should not accept free subscriptions when they know that there are such discrepancies in value. Even if they disclose that they did not pay for their box, it is unethical.

Carol

As with the previous Test Tube from QVC, I’d be more inclined to sub to this if it contained more makeup products…but this is a great one for those still searching for and trying out skincare products. I get my monthly fill from Beauty Box 5 and Beauty Fix, so I’m going to have to pass on this one.

As always, thank you ever so much for all that you do for beauty-related products…you are my go-to Holy Grail for anything and everything related to makeup/skincare/haircare and subs, and I truly appreciate all that you do. Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!!
