Subscription Box Favorites

We’re starting a new monthly post highlighting our favorite discoveries from subscription boxes! Here are our favorite items from September:

Lindsey’s Favorites:

Mantry Subscription Box Review September 2015 - Syrup

Item: Trees Knees Spicy Syrup by MixedMade

Price: $13.99

Box: Mantry

Why I love it: When it comes to brunch, I always have trouble deciding whether I want something sweet (pancakes?) or spicy (huevos rancheros?), so I love that this chili-infused maple syrup makes it easy to have both. It’s fantastic on pancakes, and I can’t wait to try it over chicken & waffles!

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review Sept 2015 - Hojaldres

Item: Chocolate Bonbons with White Truffles by Urbani

Price: $12.10 (for 15 pieces)

Box: Yummy Bazaar’s Destination Food Club Sampler

Why I love it: I’m a sucker for truffles, and these white chocolate bonbons with white truffles are just heavenly!

Hamptons Lane Subscription Box Review & Coupon September 2015 - Mill

Item: 5″ Peugeot Paris Peppermill

Price: $37

Box: Hamptons Lane

Why I love it: This peppermill is a serious upgrade from the plastic grinder I was previously using, and I absolutely love it. It’s beautifully engineered, has six different grind settings, and has a nice weight to it. I love kitchen luxuries, and I now get a little excited whenever it’s time to add pepper to my cooking.

Japan Crate Subscription Box Review September 2015 - Pretz

Item: Kawarinbo Lollipop

Price: $.99

Box: Japan Crate

Why I love it: This is the candy that keeps on giving! The two-sided lollipop (grape on one side and apple on the other) encases a ramune flavored candy center. When you’re done eating those, the lollipop stick unwraps to reveal a stick of cola flavored chewing gum.

Celicia’s Favorites:

Item: Shea Moisture SuperFruit Complex Bath, Body & Massage Oil

Price: 8oz – $9.99

From: Cocotique Box

Why I love it: Considering I slather myself in oils every day, I was able to get three full body applications with this one sample.  It smells amazing and kept me ashy free all day. 😉 Loved it. I’m getting a full-size bottle ASAP.

Item: Gideon – It’s Play Time, not Naptime! Book by Olivier Dunrea

Price: $6

From: Bookroo

Why I love it:  My kiddos fell in love with this book and so did I.  We collectively related to both sides of the story; Mommy wants the Kiddo to take a nap; Kiddo wants to play all day.  It’s the perfect book to read right before nap/bed time! Just genius!

Item: Inahsi Naturals – Aloe Hibiscus Leave-In Conditioner

Price: 8oz – $8.99

From: We Are Onyx

Why I love it: This little sample of conditioner really wowed me. It’s thick in consistency but made my curls bouncy and soft.  I enjoy finding unique hair gems like this. I hope to see more from this “new to me” brand again.

Item: Sprezza Necktie – Maroon

Price: $30.00

From: Sprezza Box

Why I love it: John had the hardest time deciding on his favorite item this month.  He said he couldn’t choose between the socks and the necktie.  The necktie wins only because I like it more.  Sprezza Box has consistently been doing an excellent job picking colors and products for John’s work wardrobe.

Anna’s Favorites:

VNYL Subscription Box Review September 2015 - muldrow

Item: “Morena Del Ray” by Georgia Anne Muldrow

Price (Fullsize): $19.33

From: VNYL

Why I love it: It’s just beautiful. Listen to it!

Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon August 2015 - book

Item: Step Into Reading series (children’s books)

Price: Varies, about $4-$8 each

From: Surprise Ride

Why I love it: Surprise Ride has sent us two of these, and my 7-year-old loves them. They are just right at step 4 to challenge him with his reading, but they are also engaging and fun books.

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon September 2015 - painterly

Item: Triste Shift Dresses

Price: They range from about $20-35 in the Gwynnie Bee shop

From: Gwynnie Bee

Why I love it: These dresses are super flattering on plus size pear-shaped ladies like myself! Plus I find most of the prints to be very unique, colorful, and interesting. I love them!

Ragan’s Favorites:

Artisan Box by Luxurion World Subscription Box Review August 2015 - art

Item: Ancient Rogan Art

Price: $30

From: Artisan Box by Luxurion World

Why I Love It: I have always liked Indian art, but in addition to being pretty, this has an interesting story behind how it is made.  Sadly, this art form is in danger of extinction because only one family practices it.

(I think this was actually from their August box but I didn’t get it until September!)

PrettyFit Fitness Subscription Box Review + Coupon September 2015 - chips

Item: Ips Chips with Protein in White Cheddar

Price: $40.62/case

From: PrettyFit

Why I Love It: These just tasted really good to me (I love anything with cheese in it, especially if it’s also salty).  Plus they had a (much) better texture than some of the other protein chips I’ve had.

Item: Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture Milk

Price: $30

From: Allure Beauty Box

Why I Love It: This worked wonders for my hair, which is dry from color treatment and frequent shampooing.  It made my hair soft and shiny and reduced frizz and didn’t weigh my hair down at all.

Haley’s Favorites:

Homedics Sound Spa - BumpBoxes 9.15

Item: Homedics SoundSpa On-the-Go

Price: $12.99

From: BumpBoxes

Why I love it: I’ve found that we use this item every day and take it with us everywhere! It has options for four different noises (heartbeat, white noise, lullabye, and ocean – our favorite is the ocean), and the clip makes it super easy to hang on cribs or the stroller. White noise helps my son go down for naps, and it also helps him stay asleep longer. It’s become something we grab just as much as his pacifiers!

Rene Rofe Floral PJ Set - Wantable Intimates 9.15

Item: Rene Rofe® Tank Top and Shorts Pajama Set in Coralditsy

Price: Originally $36, on clearance at JCPenney for $15.99!

From: Wantable Intimates

Why I love it: This PJ set is incredibly comfortable. I love how girly and cute it makes me feel – it’s officially made me appreciate feeling nice when going to bed in proper pajamas over just an over-sized t-shirt or something. Also, and this is a value not everyone will get out of it, but I love that it’s really easy to nurse in. The collar has lace trim but all of it is soft and stretchy so I have an easy time getting ready to nurse for night feedings.

And how great is it that it’s on sale now? I’m seriously considering ordering it in another color!

Fruute Cookies - Tea box Express 9.15

Item: Fruute Salted Caramel Cookies

Price: $12.50 for a 4 oz, 9-cookie pack

From: Tea Box Express

Why I love it: These cookies are super buttery shortbread cookies with a crispy caramel glaze on top and sea salt sprinkled on top. Holy cow, these are delicious. I’m a sucker for shortbread cookies and these are some of the best I’ve ever had. I think they’re pretty pricey, but they’re gourmet and I can tell the quality is there. This pack didn’t last long after the photos when I wrote the review!

Eric’s Favorites:

Item: 5″ Goomba Plush

Price: $7.58 on Amazon

From: Arcade Block

Why I Love It: This is my favorite item this month, it immediately put a smile on my face! It looks like this is one of two possible plushes your could have received this month, the other being a Ghost plush! I really like both, but I’m happy I got the Goomba! Such a classic!

Item: Deadpool vs. Thanos #1

Price: $3.99

From: Comic Block

Why I Love It: I immediately pulled this one out and read it. It’s hard not to enjoy a Deadpool comic, and if you were ever wondering what it’d be like if Thanos fought Deadpool one on one, this would be one to check out!

Bespoke Post Subscription Box Review & Coupon September 2015 kicks - Shoes

Item: BucketFeet lace-up sneakers

Price: $62

From: Bespoke Post

Why I love it: I have a tough time finding sneakers that fit me well. My feet are awkward and wide – so I was a bit worried getting shows from Bespoke post without offering a wide option. Luckily, these shoes fit so nicely, and have a great feel when walking too – these are instantly my new go-to shoes, and BucketFeet may have themselves a new repeat customer as well!

Liz’s Favorites:

ItemThe Savvy Heart Body Resurfacer in Espresso

Price: $24

From: Prospurly

Why I love it: This is one of my favorite discoveries for September. It’s made with all natural ingredients, not too oily, and the espresso scent is incredible! If you like coffee and prefer your scrubs to not be so oily, I recommend it!

Item: Doctor D Schwab Flawless Skin Fluid

Cost: $39

From: FabFitFun

Why I love it: I really like the luminous finish this moisturizer gives. Plus it’s all natural! This has been my go-to daytime moisturizer since I received it. The luminous glow doesn’t last all day long, but it’s long enough for me to want to keep using it!

Item: Shea Moisture Strengthen, Grow & Restore Styling Lotion

Price: $11

From: Target Beauty Box

Why I love it: This styling lotion smells like the best dessert ever! I’ve been using it every day since I received it in the Target Beauty Box, and I still have quite a bit left. I plan on buying the full-size version when I run out, and that should last me months! (I only need to use a small amount – too much and my hair gets a little weighed down).

Item: One Love Organics Skin Savior Multi-Tasking Wonder Balm

Price: $49

From: Kloverbox

Why I love it: I love the One Love Organics brand, and this balm confirms my theory that they have the best scents ever! This balm has a lovely creamsicle scent, and it works for all dry-skin needs!

  1. LOVE this post. Please do them every month. My favorites are the Stila mascara from Birchbox (I usually don’t bother with non-waterproof mascaras but the brush intrigued me) and Meet Matt Hughes from Ipsy. My first jump into the whole matte lips look and I liked it a lot. Of course, just tonite one of the makeup artists I follow on IG said glossy lips are coming back. I can’t keep up!

  2. I love this idea! My favorite this month was the Clinique Moisture Surge from Birchbox. It’s a classic, but one I’d never tried before! I also love and am still using the Davine’s All in One milk from September’s BB

  3. WAHOO for this post!!! I look forward to every post from the MSA team, but this is one of my favs. So fun to see what everyone used and LOVED!!! THANKS to all of you for enabling us! 🙂

    • Lol! You’re welcome?

  4. I’ve been really sick recently, so have been behind on my keeping up with MSA posts, but I am really loving the round up favorite products post. It gives a little more perspective into what Liz likes as I see the most reviews from you. I’d written off trying the FabFitFun moisturizer and will definitely keep for myself now I think. It’s just nice to see a more personal round-up post from you all with a lot of variety. My sister also loves the brand from the Target box that you really like (CVS seems to commonly have this brand on sale where I live if you’ve ever been on the lookout, she got them at a quarter of the cost!). Hopefully I won’t have another bad chronic illness flare as its been hectic trying to get enough rest and run necessary errands and I like going back through and reading nearly all the reviews to stay up to date.

    • Aww, feel better Carleigh!

  5. It takes me a little longer to decide what my favorite products are but these are my all-time favorites:
    1. Simpatico Shea Butter Cream in Ambergris from Pop Sugar – this cream smells amazing and is not greasy at all. I can put it on my hands and work at my desk all day long and don’t feel like I’m making my keyboard all greasy. And the scent is light and wonderful.

    2. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day from Nina Garcia Quarterly – my hair is really thin and fine and this product controls the flyaways but doesn’t weigh it down. I also don’t have to wash it off my hands (just makes them feel nice) and it smells AMAZING.

    3. Harry Josh Pro Tools Premium Oval Brush from Nina Garcia Quarterly – this brush is amazing and I cannot live without it. I can’t believe how expensive it is but it gets right through tangles without pulling and doesn’t make my hair static-y. I’m considering buying more in case they are discontinued…

  6. I don’t subscribe to many, but I love the Darphin in the Power Pose box.
12 Benefits and Roller Lash in my normal Birchbox.
    Meet Matte Hughes in Ipsy.
Still haven’t received the fall Walmart box yet. I’m way down on the bottom of the shipping chain.

  7. Liz and Co. (and fellow addicts 🙂 )

Thanks for this topic/thread. Such fun ! Was going to contribute my own faves only to realize in my desire to organize & stop pile of boxes from overwhelming my room, I started dividing the different products to put “like with like” (i.e. serums together, hair stuff, etc). I kept the cards from various boxes in case I need to refer back however…oh heck, just how do y ‘all keep track of all the different products?

I can’t remember which ones I got this month, with exception a LE Birchbox that had a Michael Todd Concentrated C Antioxidant Moisturizing Serum in it. I’ve been loving it although at first I had to do a few ‘pumps’ & then that sucker shot yellow serum like it was trying to take my face It didn’t hurt but I learned to have a lighter ‘trigger finger’.

Ugh, y’all may regret I joined these posts because the other item I like but don’t know which box it’s from! It’s Nourish Organic Pure Hydrating Argon Face Serum – it came in handy today when I decided I to use a beauty tool on my face and neck.

I’ll do better next time! I’ve been experimenting with learning this past year what boxes (and items) I like. Liz and all of you are who I have to thank for helping me narrow it down.

Like all of us, there’s a story behind every name on the screen. I finally have started posting to honor a series of promises to my best friend of 20 years. Promises made from 2012 – 2015 on a 4 year journey we took together before she passed on a few months ago. I promised to take better care of myself by losing weight, loving myself enough to do more than just brush hair & teeth, be kind to myself, Not let others steal my joy and other things as her friendship with me continues on a different realm now. Some days I succeed, some days I don’t (and boy do I hear her voice!), but I keep on and will continue to do so

    Ciao bellissima!!

  8. Is there a box hoarder rehab? Because I’m pretty sure I need to go. I’m up to 7 per month plus 3 quarterly ?.

    • Here’s my favs:

      Glossybox: Biossance
      IPSY: NYX eyeshadow
      Birchbox: Marcelle Mulberry eyeliner
      Boxycharm: Previse face lotion
Allure: obsessed with the whole box
      BB5: Harvey prince roller
Rachel Zoe: Cluse watch and organic body spray
Beauty DNA: $110 face cream that has the coolest push pump ever
      Walmart: razor and wet lotion

      Allure or RZ wins.

    • Save me a seat! OH….we can’t use ‘SA’ I was thinking of the different ‘anonymous programs’ like AA (alcoholics anonymous), NA and then realized what we are addicted to but that abbreviation is already used for a different true addiction. OK, TMI… 😉

  9. FYI, there’s an extra 20% off at JC Penney that applies to the Rene Rofe pajamas, but it ends today!

  10. My favorite this month was, hands down, the Too Cool for School Dinoplatz mascara from the Birchbox Korea box – my eyelashes have never looked better!

  11. This was so fun to read!

  12. I love this post and hope it will be a monthly event!

  13. SheaMoisture makes the top list TWICE!! It’s so crazy its funny. Of all the billion of items we have collectively….hilarious. Their products smell amazing!
Ragan – I love that artwork, it reminds me of my mother’s molas. Beautiful!
Haley- You are putting me to shame with the PJs. My Hubby hates the 10 year old AirForce Sweats I run around the house with. LOL. Time to upgrade my comfort zone to cute and sexy.
    Anna – Beautiful music indeed!
Lindsey – I hope one day we can get smellovision and an evite to Thanksgiving at your house. For Real!

    • Thanks Celicia! You’re awesome!

  14. Love this post

  15. I love this new feature! Please continue doing these in the future. It’s a lot of fun to read what everyone’s favorites are in all the different boxes.

How is everyone using their One Love Organics Skin Savior Multi-Tasking Wonder Balm? Are you using it as a face washing balm? I noticed it’s “multi-tasking” so curious if there are other uses I haven’t though of.

    Thanks in advance!

    • I’ve been using mine to moisturize – just a small amount in the morning and small amount at night. I haven’t tried it as a makeup remover (mostly bc I think it smells too good to wipe off).

      • Thanks for the tip Randi! I need to get over my reluctance to try it as a moisturizer (I keep thinking cleansers need to be washed off).

  16. Congrats to Liz and all the reviewers on having one of the coolest jobs in history! Seriously, MSA is brilliant! But I digress… I have to say that the Previse HydroMilk from Boxycharm is truly fantastic stuff, although pricey! It makes my skin dewy and soft and has kept blemishes (and dermatitis) at bay. I’ve also been using the Shea leave-in conditioner from Target daily and really like the Stila mascara from Birchbox. I hope I’m not crossing my months!

  17. Love the “best of” list! My favorites of the month were the Shea Moisture product from the Target Beauty box, and the Hisy charger from FabFitFun.

  18. It’s like the best of list! Love it! I’ve been loving all my boxes but will be heartbroken when the BB Darphin sample runs out- I can really tell a difference since I’ve been using it.

  19. This is such a great idea! 🙂 I have some September faves!

In my NatureBox, I loved the peanut butter nom noms and guacamole bites. In Love with Food, I loved the Bear Naked sea salt caramel apple granola. I ate it over vanilla yogurt. <3 🙂 In POPSUGAR, the Too Faced Brow Envy kit was really cool. In Book Riot Quarterly, I really liked the Books! pennant. In Lit-Cube, I loved the tiny mug and the Once Upon a Time themed tea. In Owl Crate, I loved the arrow necklace (I wore it to a concert) and the Hermione print by Megan Lara. This wasn't from a box, but I ordered the Truffle Therapy serum from BirchBox's anniversary sale and I love it! I wish I had bought more and it wasn't so expensive off-sale. :/ In Loot Crate Level Up, I really liked the eeveelution hinge wallet (accessories) and the Dragon Ball Z long sleeve t-shirt (wearable). In Loot Crate, I liked the Pokemon Pikachu laplander hat, the Supernatural 1967 Chevy Impala replica, and the Hearthstone card pack code. In FanMail, I liked the Supernatural t-shirt, art print, Impala license plate necklace, and Sam's army man replica.

There were a lot of good things in September! Also, I might be addicted to subscription boxes. 😛 lol

    • Ooooo Nom Noms…. I miss my NatureBox subscription!! Has it gotten better? I swear every box had a replacement. I think I got nom noms only twice, I finally got mad and cancelled. LOL

      • I love NatureBox. <3 The customer service is really great, too. I had some yogurt pretzels in a box at the beginning of summer that melted and they sent me a bonus snack in my next box. In my last box, one of the snacks were wrong and they are giving me the snack I ordered and a bonus snack on top of my regular order. 😀 Also, if you like nom noms, the pumpkin spice nom noms are available right now. They are my favorite. <3

  20. Echoing that this is a great idea! Putting spicy syrup (and their spicy honey) on my list!

  21. Love this monthly “best of” idea! I love my Cluse watch and Topshop fedora from the Box of Style. I wore both to my five year old’s first soccer game to feel like a fashionable “soccer mom.” Also Kiwi Crate is a hit month after month in my household. Also love my Birchbox Korean faves limited edition box quite a bit!

  22. I LOVE this new monthly post – awesome idea!

I just used One Love Organics Skin Savior Multi-Tasking Wonder Balm and Doctor D Schwab Flawless Skin Fluid this morning.
The One Love Organics Skin Savior is my all time favorite – its the first product I’ve received from that brand and I am in love! The skin savior smells so good – I could seriously eat it (and I mean seriously… one of these days I probably will end up trying a little bit). Everytime I use it, it makes me so happy bc it just smells and feels amazing!
I’ll definitely be buying more products from this brand (I was so sad to have missed your box Liz with the pineapple scrub – I might break down and buy it now).

So thank you Liz for the wonderful site – I’ve learned so much and discovered so many new, wonderful brands! The way you do reviews and handle yourself is truly amazing, I completely appreciate your honesty and that you stay so positive with everything.
And thank you to all of the other reviewers and everyone that comments – I seriously learn so much from everyone 🙂
Okay, I could go on and on about how much I love MSA… but I’ll stop 🙂

    • OMG – thank you so much, Randi! 🙂 And I’m so glad to hear you like the One Love Organics Skin Savior Multi-Tasking Wonder Balm and Doctor D Schwab Flawless Skin Fluid too!

    • Thanks Randi!

  23. My favorite was from Birchbox: it was Davines Love Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner.

    • Mine, too! Smells soooo heavenly.

  24. Love this idea!

  25. What a great idea! I don’t look at all the reviews because they don’t always appeal to me, but this breakdown is awesome!

  26. Love this idea for a monthly feature!

My fav from September was also the flawless skin fluid. I need to use up a ton of moisturizers, but when I buy more that will be at the top of my list.

Also the Cluse watch and Shashi earrings from the Rachel Zoe box. I love them both and my enthusiasm hasn’t waned after wearing them for six weeks now.

  27. I think this article is an interesting idea. Thanks for putting together list of favorites.

  28. Great feature! I LOVED the Shea Moisture in the Target box too!

  29. Thought Eric was loving that face serum. Was picturing him with a “luminous glow”. Giggled.

  30. What a fantastic idea!!! Thanks so much for sharing!!! Been dying to try One Love Organics Skin Savior Multi-Tasking Wonder Balm…
