Shea Moisture Strengthen, Grow & Restore Styling Lotion - 3.2 oz Value $4.40

I love this styling lotion! It works for natural, chemically processed, color treated or heat styled hair, and it has a wonderful vanilla cupcake scent. Not only did it make my hair soft - now I can't stop smelling my hair! Once this sample runs out, I will definitely buy the full-size version!

Dove Quench Absolute Creme Serum - FULL SIZE! Value $5.99

I like that this product works on both dry and wet hair. It's designed quench hair dryness, seal hair cuticles, and tame frizz. I like the scent, and it's a lightweight formula. I think this serum is a good product to keep on hand for touch-ups throughout the day.

Jane Carter Solution Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner - 2 oz Value $2.25

The scent of this spray is barely there (good for me), and I like that this brand is vegan plus paraben and sulfate free. I tried the spray on dry hair, and it weighed my hair down a bit, so I'll stick to using this only post-shower.

Curls Creme Brule Whipped Curl Creme - 2 oz Value $2.75

This smells exactly how good I hoped it would smell with that name! I don't even know how they do it since the formula is free of artificial fragrances, colors, etc. It's designed to be used with damp hair that you let air dry for curls to define. My hair is naturally wavy/semi-curly, but I usually straighten it, so I tried this on dry straight hair, and it worked to add a little texture. (And make my whole head smell like a delicious dessert!)

Colgate Optic White Express White Toothpaste .75 oz Value $1

Aquaphor Healing Ointment - .25 oz Value $.50

These aren't the most exciting samples in the beauty box, but definitely good staples to have for travel or guests!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $17. I think that's great for a $5 box that includes a useful Target coupon! (I'm always happy with Target beauty box values). At first when I saw the spoilers for this box, I thought it was a little hair-product heavy, but I liked trying out each one of the hair products, and I think the sweet smelling ones are my favorites!

What did you think of the September Target Beauty Box? Which sample was your favorite?

Hi. I just ordered my first Target Beauty Box, the October one. I have 2 questions. Are they doing a box every month now instead of just by season? Also, I’ve seen the $7 boxes & the $5 boxes, what is the difference? Do they just vary the cost by the value of its contents? I’m a new subscriber to your site. I’ve been getting Ipsy for 6 months and I love it but that’s the only beauty box I’ve done. Thanks!

I am stunned at how generous these sizes are for $5.00 with no shipping costs!! I know Liz said the value is $17.00 but I actually think of the value of this box as higher, because the prices on the full size products themselves are a great value. To have products at this price-point that are vegan, paraben / sulfate free / free of artificial fragrances, colors, etc. makes me think that some of those other “designer” hair products are simply overpriced. And this Target box puts Birchbox to shame with their thimble-size samples. I am going to try to buy several Target boxes each time if possible and give them away!

I got my box on September 10 :D, this is my first beauty box ever and I was so excited for the products!, besides I’m always looking for something new to try on my wavy, frizzy and rebellious hair. So far I’ve tried Dove Quench Absolute Creme Serum I love the smell, it doesn’t weight down my hair and leaves it very smooth and smelling great, though my hair is still a little bit frizzed I’ll use it until it runs out. I also tried the Curls Creme Brule Whipped Curl Creme, don’t really like the smell, but it’s a good product too, it worked better than the Dove Serum. Last product I had been trying is the Colgate Optic White Express White Toothpaste, I did noticed an slightly change in the color of my teeth ;)… bad news: my teeth got very sensitive! 🙁 I stopped using it and everything’s normal now… definitely not buying this toothpaste ever.

Aquaphor healing Ointment is the best product they could add to the box. I have the full size of this product at home because on winter my lips get really bad.. all cracked and dried and this is the only product that really helps me… it arrived just in time! I’ll keep it in my purse all winter and I won’t have to take with me the full size as I usually do 😛

I cannot wait for the next Target box! (L)

I loved every single item in my box. The Curls Creme Brule is a product I hadn’t even heard of (which is saying something as a curly-haired person who is hair product obsessed), and it’s probably my favorite item in the whole box. I’ll be buying a full size of that!
So often I feel like beauty boxes are heavy on make-up (I literally have a dozen unopened lip glosses) and products for straight-haired girls (ie dry shampoo- bleh)… it was very refreshing to see something aimed at adding moisture to hair. These products are actually things that I will use. Seriously, if there was a curly box, I would sign up in a heartbeat.
Well done, Target.

Try Curlkit, Curlbox, Onyx and curlcollection.

I just tried the curl creme on my thick wavy/curly hair and it makes my hair super soft, smells fantastic but it’s so frizzy. My hair is so weird it doesn’t really like curly haired products. I’ve found two in my lifetime I can use on my hair to make it curly instead of just poofy.

What are the 2 products that work for you? I’m always looking!

Sara

One was discontinued so I struggled to find another one that would make my hair curly. I found Samy Curl Constructor Activating Mousse, works good for me since I let my hair air dry. I get it at Walgreens.

I was disappointed when I received my box. The Jane Carter solution had spilled over everything. I was so looking forward to trying it!!!

I just got mine in the mail today, but I’d already washed my hair this morning, so it’ll be Sunday-ish before I can try most of it out. I just opened up the bottled and sniffed… OMG! It’s so heavenly, and I can’t wait to give them a try!

I got my box yesterday, washed my hair and used most of the hair products on my wavy hair. After washing and conditioning with some Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioners, I sprayed my hair with the Jane Carter Leave-in Conditioner It was great and helping me detangle the hair and my hair felt smooth, smells great too. Then I used the Dove Cream Serum, it has nice as well. I finished it off with the Shea Moisture styling lotion. I LOVE anything Shea Moisture makes and this lotion is no exception, I will buy a full size! Then I went to sleep with my damp hair, my normal routine. This morning my hair was slightly wavy, but not as frizzy or fluffy as normal. I touched it up with a curling iron. I am so pleased with the box and trying out new curly hair things. As a wavy haired person, I have felt like curly product weren’t for me as I don’t have full curls and hate that crunchy feeling others give. But from trying a sample of the Shea Moisture Curl Cream from a Target box I have been trying out different curl products seeing what works for me! This is a great way to try out many products and see what works for you without paying lots of $!

I think my hair is a little wavier than yours (maybe a few curls in there too – it’s definitely not uniform) and I feel the same way about a lot of what you said! Except I didn’t want to try all the new products together because then I’m not sure which one(s) are really making a difference?

I was so excited for more trial sized curl products, and just in time for my box to arrive, I got a bad hair cut. 🙁 She cut off all my curls! I’ll put everything away for a curlier day, but I did try the Dove, because what I have left can still get frizzy. I liked that I could use it on dry hair, and it didn’t make my hair stiff like other products. Pretty good box, but I thought the toothpaste was going to be a full size?

Sorry to hear about your bad haircut. People who say “it’s just hair” don’t understand! Total bummer. 🙁

Actually the Aquaphor is great for your cuticles and gives your nails a nice shine. I too loved the box, I used the Shea and Curl cream yesterday and my curls look great even today.

Catherine

Good to know about the Aquaphor – my cuticles/fingers have been really dry so now I am going to use this at night and hope for the best! 🙂

I love my everything in my box! 🙂

I received my box yesterday. What a great selection of products for $5! I haven’t tried anything yet, just opened and smelled. Oh I did use the Aquaphor on my neck that I just burned with a curling iron!

I think this is the best Target box to date. Besides the Dove, the other 3 hair products are all new to me, that is what sample boxes should be about.

FYI – Walmart Fall box is being shipped this month. I didn’t realize I have an automatic subscription to that until I received an email.

I got my box the other day and really liked it. I have yet to try any of the products though lol, one of them did leak a little in the box, but I couldn’t figure out which one did. The box was surprisingly heavy for all sample sized items.

Ariana

Mine also leaked – it was the spray leave-in conditioner. The screw top was actually quite loose. I am surprised I didn’t have it all over everything!

i love the leave in conditioner ..i think it is my favorite and when it runs out i will definitely be buying more of it.. i love the smell of the others also, the shea moisture is awesome also i haven’t tried the others yet but i hope they work just as well..

I love the Dove serum. When I got home from work today, the first thing my husband said to me was ‘”wow! Your hair looks great. It’s all shiny”. That’s high praise from the man who lovingly refers to my hair as “the nest” since it normally frizzes and poofs out within an hour of styling it.

I got my box yesterday. I love it for my curly hair. I thought it was a great value for the box.

LOVE this box. I have crazy curly hair and love the Shea Moisture the most. I will be using that up pretty fast! Best discovery in a while for me. I love Target boxes and hope they become a monthly subscription! 🙂

I was so happy with this box. I can’t wait for their next one.

I was so disappointed with this box!! My Jane Carter leave in conditioner spilled out over everything! I know I shouldn’t complain because it’s only $5, but it’s a huge bummer that I won’t get a chance to use one of my items. Plus I had to clean everything else off; the box was soaked ),:

Brittnaylea

Thanks ladies I’ll definitely try it out!

Reply ButtonReply

Heathery

That happened with my last box and they gave me a gift card for $2. Not as good as a replacement item, but at least at halves the price of the box.

Reply ButtonReply

HL

The exact same thing happened to me. The lid was completely unscrewed. Maybe a foil seal is a good idea? They gave me a gift card for $2.50, but that was after offering me $0.50 first. I also wish I hadn’t thrown out the soaked box and papers because I always use the $3 off $15 coupon.

Donna

You should send their customer service department and tell them what happened. They might make it right. Even if they don’t, you’ll know that you’ve tried. You have nothing to lose.

I received the box today! I was super-excited since my daugther has curly hair. We have FOUR products that are all about her. She feels super-special, and I cannot wait to see if they work on her hair. It’s a great deal since I dread spending money on a full-sized product without knowing if it will truly work.

Omg I just got my box today! I wasn’t excited at first but now that I have it, I’m glad I did. It’s such a great deal and I can have my curly haired boys try some of the items too:)
