My Megababe Deodorant Review - I Tried Rosy Pits and Felt Amazing

My Megababe Deodorant Review

My Armpits Turned Into Luscious Gardens

4.8/5 stars

Pros:

  • It. Smells. Incredible. (In a feminine way.)
  • Glides on smooth & clear.
  • Gentle on sensitive skin with its baking-soda-free formula.

Cons:

  • A bit on the pricy side, with no option to subscribe & save.
  • It's not an antiperspirant, which is typically the case with natural deodorants.

My Verdict:

It's smooth, it's invisible, its rosy scent is heavenly, and it works. Those four aspects make it worth the higher cost to me. Megababe's Rosy Pits gets a standing ovation from this natural deodorant lover!

I'm back with another natural deodorant review and I'm so excited about it! Many of you have taken notice of our growing list of natural deodorant reviews and wondered, "what's with that?" Well, some of our readers are on their own natural deodorant exploration journeys alongside me (hi out there!); also most of the natural deodorants I've reviewed have offered subscription options, giving an opportunity to save a few bucks. As it turns out, Megababe does not offer a recurring shipment option, which is such a bummer because I would 100% be all over it were it available. From Day 1 of using Megababe's Rosy Pits I have loved the way my underarms felt and smelled, and how well this deodorant has worked. Basically, I have been applying rose garden magic under my arms every day, thus securing my pits' status of being purely delightful for the day that followed. Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt. I just really love this deodorant, and I'll tell you why in more detail below.

My Megababe Deodorant Review

The Feel

5/5 stars

The Promise: "Includes corn starch for moisture absorption, but as with any aluminum-free deodorant, some wetness is normal."

The Reality: Crazy-smooth gliding on, and kept my pits relatively dry.

If you've tried Kopari deodorant, you're familiar with the insanely smooth application and the soothing consistency it offers thanks to a coconut base. Megababe offers a really similar feel! Megababe also features Vitamin E, which boasts natural anti-inflammatory qualities, making it a great post-shave soothant. I am also pleased to report that I had no issues whatsoever with transfer. I found myself changing into a swimsuit shortly after dressing and applying this deodorant on a couple of mornings, and I didn't find white streaks on the garments at hand. Yay!

The Scent

5/5 stars

The Promise: "A fresh, rosy infusion for your pits."

The Reality: Exactly that: a fresh, rosy infusion for my pits!

If you already know you love a rose scent, don't wait another second, just buy this deodorant and live out your best-smelling life! I typically shy away from floral aromas or other overly feminine scents, so I wouldn't have pinned myself as being as fanatical about this rose-smelling deodorant as I am. I may or may not have been gently, lovingly asked to tone it down by a loved one when the day came that I started inviting family members to smell my armpits. I felt I could smell this deodorant all throughout the day (less and less as the day went on), but in a subtle way that I didn't find overpowering. For example, when I suggested to my husband that maybe Rosy Pits is my new perfume, he said he couldn't smell it just standing next to me.

The Odor Protection

4.5/5 stars

The Promise: "Made with a blend of natural ingredients, including sage and green tea, it helps prevent odor-causing bacteria from forming on the skin."

The Reality: Reliable odor protection for everyday wear.

Megababe's odor protection comes by way of naturally antifungal and bacteria neutralizing ingredients, and I think it does a great job of it. Above I compared the consistency of Megababe to Kopari, and again here I feel they compare well. I am a light perspirer, but I'm also human, and on hot days or higher activity days I sweat like everyone else, and I want my deodorant to help me out. I found that Rosy Pits isn't 100% perfect when it comes to odor protection (what deodorant is?), but it is reliable. If I knew I had a high-impact activity ahead I sometimes chose to apply an additional swipe of Megababe ahead of time, but if I didn't think to, it was fine.

Good to Know

Natural Deodorants vs. Antiperspirants

Most deodorants you'll find on the shelf are antiperspirants, which are meant to inhibit sweating (and therefore reduce odor) by using aluminum salts to block the sweat glands. Non-antiperspirant deodorants allow the body to sweat naturally, but contain ingredients that curb odor by addressing the bacteria that causes it. While some early research linked the use of antiperspirants with Alzheimer’s and cancer, according to Teen Vogue there is no compelling scientific case to prove it; still, consumers are increasingly wary of using body products that contain unnecessary chemicals. Some consumers also have concerns about interfering with the "detoxifying" process of sweating, but Teen Vogue clarifies that sweating is really only responsible for a "negligible" amount of detoxification.

Please note that Megababe is not an antiperspirant. It's aluminum-free, which means it's a great natural choice but Megababe deodorant not going to stop you from sweating. Megababe's natural ingredients include sage and green tea, which are meant to prevent odor-causing bacteria from forming on the skin. It's a great option for a clean deodorant that helps protect against odor, but not the best choice if you're looking for a deodorant that offers moisture control.

What is an "Armpit Detox?" Transitioning to Natural Deodorant

You may have heard tell of the 2-4 week transition period that's typical when switching from an antiperspirant to a natural deodorant. Some sources call this period an "armpit detox," which sounds kind of intense, but it doesn't have to be. Everybody's body reacts differently during the transition, but generally what you can expect is to be a little extra stinky for a time while your armpits adjust to sweating regularly again.

Here are a few tips for getting through the switch:

  • Research your options before choosing a natural deodorant. Megababe, like Kopari, seems to me to be a great choice for first-time natural deodorant users due to its smooth, gentle consistency and reliable odor protection.
  • Bring your new natural deodorant along with you for a bit—carry it in your purse or work bag so you can apply an extra layer if you feel you need it partway through the day.
  • Rest assured knowing that you're probably way more aware of this smelly phase than anyone else is. It's not as bad as you think! And, truly, it will come to an end.
  • If you experience any stinging, redness, or rash, it's time to stop using that deodorant and give your precious pits a little break—and maybe even check in with a dermatologist if it's bad. Sometimes even natural ingredients don't work great with everyone's skin, and there are all sorts of other natural deodorants to try out there.

Shipping, Returns, & More

Megababe Deodorant Review

Placing Your Order

For this review, I ordered Megababe's Rosy Pits deodorant through their website, but it is also available at Ulta and Target for the same price, but with different shipping rates. Purchasing a single full-size stick of Megababe Rosy Pits costs $14 + shipping.

Shipping & Tracking

I ordered Rosy Pits on a Friday and chose their Standard US shipping option ($3.95). An order confirmation email appeared in my inbox within a few minutes, and a shipping notification that contained tracking was sent on Monday evening. My deodorant arrived in the mail two days later, on Wednesday.

Returns

If you purchase directly through Megababe and you're unhappy with your order, Megababe accepts returns on any purchase for a full refund. They advise starting the conversation by emailing [email protected] with your order number and the products you’d like to return. Returns for US orders are always free within 30 days of when you receive your order. Original shipping charges will not be refunded (if applicable). All international sales are final, unless there is a defect with the product or it was damaged during shipping.

If you order through Ulta, they also offer full refunds for returns made within 60 days of purchase, if the original receipt is retained. Otherwise, the refund will be sent as store credit. Go to ulta.com to get your return started. If you choose to make your return by mail, you have to pay shipping, or you can return your order in person at a store location to avoid shipping costs.

Break

Most natural deodorants give me a terrible rash, but I decided to try this one after reading your review. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I’m rash free and it works!!

I suggest looking for coupons online. There were some for Megababe for June, and new ones are out for July. They offer a discount, and/or free shipping. I find that such coupons are often hit-or-miss, but trying one can be worth it.

I either don’t wear deodorant or use a natural one. I love the scent of roses so this is a win for me. Must try it but have several others from various subscription boxes.

Relatable! I have quite the deodorant spread to choose from these days, haha. When you finally get to this one, I hope you like it!

UGH! WHY do they include corn starch?!? Corn is SO awful. This had me sold until “corn starch” which is instant rash…. Tapioca starch is so much more body friendly.

Christen Russo

Tapioca starch would be so much better, you’re right! I haven’t had a reaction to the corn starch, but I think that’s really the only common irritant this stick contains, so it would be great if it could be swapped out.

Loved the Vonnegut quote you snuck in there!

10 points for Maria! So happy you noticed. 😉

I just don’t understand these deodorant reviews. Are they subscription boxes???

Reply ButtonReply

Christen Russo

Most of them do have a subscription option! This one happens not too (boo, I would totally subscribe if they did). Some brands I’ve been reviewing also offer other personal care products, and you can subscribe to those as well!

I made the switch to natural deodorant at the beginning of quarantine and I’ve been really pleased so far, even as Arizona is hitting peak heat. I’ve been using the Oars and Alps that was in a GQ box and it’s been effective, but I’d love try something a little girlier. This sounds like it’s right up my alley.

Christen Russo

Sounds like great timing to make the switch! I love that more and more subscription boxes have been offering natural deodorants for subscribers to try. I really like Oars and Alps’ branding. 🙂

It would be great to mention if these deodorants come in other scents. I’m not a fan of rose, and almost skipped looking up this brand to see if there were other scents. I’m excited they have a few other scents, including Beachy! I might give it a try for the summer months.

I’ve been using MagSol in Sandalwood for years. The deodorant is all natural with added magnesium. They can be purchased via their site or Amazon, if you are looking for other interesting brands to review.

Reply ButtonReply

Christen Russo

I’ve never heard of MagSol, but I’m loving the concept! I’ve read that magnesium is best absorbed topically, which drove me to buy a mag spray that’s meant to be applied on the bottoms of your feet. It’s not always practical as you have to let it dry, haha, but making it in deodorant form is so clever. Might have to give it a try!

Expand the available scent options in the review there are 4 options.

azdeserttgril

Sorry! I caught that right after I sent the email. I meant to respond to my comment to disregard my suggestion regarding scent options, but my comment didn’t post right away, and I forget to come back.

I love, love, love the Megababe anti-chafing stick and the body powder. I’m definitely going to try the deodorant

After having such success with this deodorant I’m eager to try the rest of their products. Great to have these 2 vouched for! Thanks for sharing your experience!

Marie

Do it! I have the Rosy and Beachy deodorants and LOVE them. I was thinking of adding the anti-chafing stick and bust dust to my collection.
