Bespoke Post — 2021 In Review

Bespoke Post in 2021

A look back at this past year and our hopes for 2022.

Bespoke Post is a monthly membership club that delivers high-quality lifestyle products from up-and-coming brands. It’s voted as one of the best men’s subscription boxes of 2021 by our readers and it’s a great box for women and couples as well. Unlike most subscription boxes, you get to preview your box before it ships and you can easily swap for a different box or skip the month for no charge. You only pay for the months that interest you. For $49 per month, each box promises at least $70 in retail value with items ranging from outdoor gear, barware, home, and kitchen goods, clothing, and more. They also have a store of items not included in boxes, which members have discounted access to.

What Bespoke Post Got Right in 2021

Choice

Unlike most subscription boxes, you know exactly what you are getting each month from Bespoke Post because you choose it. The first of every month, you'll get a notification of new, returning, or classic boxes. There are usually about 20-ish options curated for you, but if you search the site there are nearly 200 boxes to choose from. (Pro tip: Search for "box" to bring up all the options.) They range from clothes to tools to candles to dried meat.

Quality

Every item I have received from this subscription has gone directly into my usual routine and stayed there. I have yet to have an issue with any of the items and even though it's only been a year or less, everything has held up nicely.

Value

The values of my monthly boxes were often twice the cost of the subscription. Yes, the items were sometimes from Bespoke Post's own brands, but the price tags are real, and being a member has its perks. The costs are typically not an amount I would pay for on my own, which is the value of a subscription like this. You have your choice of quality items for around half the cost.

What I Would Like to See in 2022

More and New Choices

Yes, Bespoke Post lets you choose from a pool of nearly 200 boxes every month, but they are mostly the same with only a few new boxes each month. New subscribers will be salivating at all the choices, but long-time subscribers may find themselves tired of the same majority of boxes. You can always skip a month if you are not feeling it. Or maybe you could use the subscription to get a gift for someone. But some months I've found myself saying, "I guess I'll get this one." So I'd like to see an overhaul on the choices.

My Favorite Boxes from Bespoke Post in 2021

It's funny to be picking my favorite items that Bespoke Post has sent me when I've chosen each and every one of them. Here are a few of the ones that have stuck with me and that I use the most often:

Bread & Boxers Lounge Pant - Retail Price $60

From my March Review:

These pants are definitely the main article of this box. I’ve been wearing them all weekend, and I might just go for the whole week. Believe it or not, I’ve never owned any sweatpants or the like. So my wife was a little surprised I picked this set, but I’m loving them. They are 100% Organic Cotton. The have two side pockets, plus one in the back. It has a ribbed drawstring waist and ankle cuffs. The site offers them in grey and olive, but I’m very happy Bespoke Post was offering them in navy. They are great for around the house or, like the site says, on your way to the gym.

Columbia Crestview Field Watch - Retail Value $75

From my April Review:

I have been wanting to get back into the watch game, and have been waiting for the right watch to jump back in. I think I found it with Bespoke Post’s “Trek.” The box’s main item is a Columbia field watch in either the Crestview or Cross Trail styles. Subscribers can choose between blue, green, or gray. I went with the blue one, which happened to be the Crestview style. I’ve been wearing it all day, and haven’t used it to check the time once. It’s going to be hard to break the habit of checking my phone. I love that it’s from a trusted, well-known brand. If I were buying a watch for myself at a store, this is essentially exactly what I would purchase. Bespoke Post offers several watches, but this was definitely the most my style.

Gilded Age Board Shorts – Retail Value $89

From my June review:

With the arrival of swimming weather this year, I quickly found I needed a new pair of trunks for the pool. Our family swims a lot. The kids and I don’t mind dipping in our underwear, but we do have the occasional guest. For that reason, “Dive” was on my shortlist of choices from Bespoke Post and June was the perfect month to receive them. These are called the Vineyard Board Short 2010 by Gilded Age. I find the fabric incredibly soft, light, yet tough. The website says it is sueded microfiber and that feels about right. It looks good, feels good, and dries fast. The fly velcros shut and the drawstring is solid. There are the usual side pockets which are half mesh to allow drainage, but also a small back pocket and a little key pocket in the front. Both velcro shut. Even though I am unlikely to use them, I always appreciate extra pockets. Our family is heading to the beach in a few weeks and I think these shorts will look great on and off the beach. I may even wear them around town.

Line of Trade The Starboard Donegal Sweater – Retail Value $70

From my October review:

This sweater was an immediate hit for me. It fits perfectly and looks sophisticated while also looking like something you could wear at the docks. Apparently, the style hails from Donegal, Ireland. Hence the name. It is 60% wool, 25% nylon, 15% acrylic mix with ribbed collar, cuffs, and waist. I’m absolutely crazy about the traditional Donegal-style flecking. I didn’t think I’d have a coat or sweater with faux suede elbow patches, but here we are and I dig them

[This] has been on my radar for months, but couldn’t bring myself to order it until the weather cooled down. Although it’s not as cold as I hoped for October, I was over the moon for this sweater and couldn’t be happier with my choice.

Gary Buffalo Suede Work Gloves – Retail Value $80

From my August review:

[This] was actually the first thing to pique my interest when I first started reviewing Bespoke Post. I’ve been putting it off for months, but with raking and shoveling seasons right around the corner, I couldn’t think of a better time to jump on a pair of these buffalo hide gloves. While both the gloves and liners are good on their own, together they are great and make me feel like getting outside to do some chores. I like that they included the waterproofing option, but leave it up to you. I also really like unbranded items. There is only a small tag in the work gloves and nothing in the liners. They were exactly what I wanted and was expecting. These gloves make me even more excited for the fall and winter. This reminds of me a Tom Waits lyric I think about often: “What I miss you won’t believe, shovel’n snow and raking leaves.”

Line of Trade Summit Flannel Shirt – Retail Value $65

From my September review:

Normally I can’t decide what to pick for this sub, but I’m so pumped up for Autumn that I didn’t hesitate at all in choosing “Layers.” Of all the boxes I’ve chosen from Bespoke Post, this one was the most “me.” Both items are something I would buy. In fact, this shirt is so similar to one I already own that my wife hasn’t even noticed I’m wearing a new one. Maybe I shouldn’t brag about that. The point is these items were immediately comfortable. Not only in their fit, but how they fit into my wardrobe. That is what is so nice about a subscription like this. You can pick what you want and scroll past what you don’t. And if there is absolutely nothing speaking to your sense of style, you can pause the subscription until there is. I was very pleased with the options, items, and delivery of this month’s box/bag.

Who do I recommend Bespoke Post for?

Bespoke Post is for anyone who wants a choice in what they get. How often have you been underwhelmed with a subscription box, because they sent you a product that you already had or would never use? Have you ever questioned whether a subscription was worth the cost because you've been disappointed a couple months in a row? I've felt that way about other subs, but not this one. In some ways, Bespoke Post is more of a membership, because you're essentially shopping with a member's discount. But this is one of the boxes I have been the happiest with. I like the value, quality, and, most of all, the choice. If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, check Bespoke Post out in 2022.
