Bespoke Post "Dive" Review

The boxes typically come with a card to let you know what's in the box and a little bit about each item. There was no such card in this month's box. However, I think the items are pretty self-explanatory.

Gilded Age Board Shorts - Retail Value $89.00

With the arrival of swimming weather this year, I quickly found I needed a new pair of trunks for the pool. Our family swims a lot. The kids and I don't mind dipping in our underwear, but we do have the occasional guest. For that reason, "Dive" was on my shortlist of choices from Bespoke Post and June was the perfect month to receive them. These are called the Vineyard Board Short 2010 by Gilded Age. I find the fabric incredibly soft, light, yet tough. The website says it is sueded microfiber and that feels about right. It looks good, feels good, and dries fast. The fly velcros shut and the drawstring is solid. There are the usual side pockets which are half mesh to allow drainage, but also a small back pocket and a little key pocket in the front. Both velcro shut. Even though I am unlikely to use them, I always appreciate extra pockets. They'd be nice to keep some cash/cards in at the beach if need be. The shorts come in blue, red, and grey. I would have preferred the navy shorts, but they were sold out of my size in that style. I have to admit that I thought these were your typical swim trunks and therefore expected a mesh support inside, which these shorts do not have. I didn't realize board shorts and swim trunks were different beyond the style. So now I feel I am in the market for waterproof underwear. Otherwise, it makes no sense to have fast-drying shorts and wear cotton undies that will stay soaked for hours.

Overall, I like the shorts. They felt great to wear and dried super quick. Having a fly that opens allows the shorts to hug my hips tight when it's closed, which was exactly what I wanted. I will say they don't look as good on me as they did the model, but that is par for the course. I'm just excited to have a new pair of swimshorts and another reason to jump in the pool.

Note: If you are thinking about choosing "Dive," only certain sizes of each color are available as of this post.

Aerobie Sprint Ring Throwing Disc - Retail Value $7.99 (Amazon link here)

Whether it's a Frisbee on the beach or a driver at the disc golf course, I'm a big fan of throwing discs. I've been tossing my whole life. I haven't had or thrown a disc like this sprint ring since I was a kid and got one stuck on a tree branch. This disc measures 10 inches in diameter. Throwing it is effortless and fun, you can catch it a multitude of different ways, and it's soft enough not to hurt if it hits you. Once my daughter figured out the latter, she was actually excited to throw with me. I'm really happy to have this disc. We're always looking for items to give our pool guests something to do. This item can be whipped around without worrying too much about the consequences, except maybe the occasional spilled drink. An excellent item to pair with the above board shorts. For what it's worth, it also doubles as something you can throw in the pool and have your four-year-old retrieve for fun.

Verdict: "Dive" was another box I chose out of necessity. I was in the market for a new pair and took the opportunity to receive one from Bespoke Post. Like I said, I think the blue pair would have looked a little better on me, but it's hard to complain in these shorts. (Yes, I'm still wearing them.) Our family is heading to the beach in a few weeks and I think these shorts will look great on and off the beach. I may even wear them around town. The throwing disc is most excellent. I don't know why I did have one of these sooner. It's all the fun of a Frisbee, but easier and more effortless. "Dive" was almost exactly what I was expecting and that's what I like out of this subscription.

In terms of value, these items add up to $97, which is a little more than twice the cost of the subscription. That is a great value, but, if I may say so, that is also an astronomical price for a pair of swim shorts. Here is a link to Bespoke Post where they were selling them for $100. A quick search will find myriad board shorts in the $45-$55 price range. If you shop at Gilded Age, you'll find that $89 for shorts is the cheap option. Far be it from me to say what these shorts cost. I will say the retail value speaks for itself and so does this deal.

To Wrap Up:
