Love Goodly is a non-toxic and cruelty-free vegan subscription box that sends a mix of 4-5 full-size beautywellness, and lifestyle items every other month for $34.95 (with free shipping). They also offer a VIP subscription for $48.95, which comes with an additional full-size product (or two). Every purchase supports a different cause each month.

This review is for the VIP subscription for $48.95 every other month.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Note to Canadian Customers: "As of October 28, 2022: At this time, we have paused shipping our bi-monthly subscription boxes and prepaid box plans to Canada; however, you can still purchase the Single Essential or Single VIP Box to ship to Canada. Current active Canada customers are not affected."

Inside the August/September 2023 Box

Love Goodly items always come packed neatly in a small cardboard box, with recyclable paper sizzle padding the items. It's a simple but thoughtful presentation. Clear the sizzle aside and you'll get your exciting first peek at what the month holds.

Info about each product is listed inside the folded card. Here you'll also find a little about which charity this month's box supports, plus a 15% a discount code for purchases made from their shop. The Love Goodly shop is still closed as they transfer inventory to the NOVICA warehouse. When it's back up and running you'll notice each month's items show up in their shop shortly after the box begins shipping. In the meantime, if you know you want to stock up on more of any product from this month's box, you could buy a gift card with your discount to use later!

Evio Beauty Pore-fect Primer, 1 oz – Retail Value $24

After last box's curation was heavy with wellness products you could consume and skincare serums, I was expecting to see makeup items this time around. Primer isn't makeup per se, but it's halfway there! This small tube checks all the usual LG boxes of being vegan, cruelty-free, and non-toxic, but it's also silicone-free and non-comedogenic (won't clog the pores). Everything I've received from Evio Beauty through this box over the years has been stellar quality.

Orglamix Eco Chic Eyeshadow Makeup Brush – Retail Value $10

Next up is a blender makeup brush with a medium flat head and a bamboo handle. The synthetic bristles are vegan and cruelty-free, and the ferrule is made from recycled aluminum. To take it to the next level, the packaging it comes in is plant-based. Beautiful, glorious wins all around!

Orglamix x Love Goodly Custom Eyeshadow – Listed Value $18

You'll use this brush to apply the shimmery eyeshadow you'll also have received! Subscribers will be sent one of two colors at random, and I got Fall LOVE, which is "soft, flattering peachy pink with subtle shimmer." It's an exclusive shade created in collaboration with Love Goodly, but from what I can tell, a comparable shade is Orglamix's Posey. Others may have received Fresh Fall LOVEly, "rich, soft brown with a mellow gray undertone and subtle shimmer." Cardamom might be comparable.

Loose eyeshadow isn't something I typically keep on hand, but it is a pleasant change of pace. It's light as can be, and something like this with a fine shimmer is all the more fun if it can gentle spread out around the eye area anyway, so the imprecise situation here works well for me. My five-year-old daughter was curious about trying this eyeshadow, and I brushed a little on her cheek bones, which was indeed very subtle and cute.

Bars Over Bottles Detox Shampoo Bar and Ultra Moisturizing Conditioner Bar – Retail Value $15.10 each

Sigh. I've struggled with getting into bar shampoo and conditioner, even though I believe in them so much. I have even been given several opportunities to try again, as Love Goodly sends them every so often, and they always offer a whoosh of amazing scent, and give me hope that I'll finally transform into a shampoo bar user. But I just simply cannot figure out how to go about it in a way that doesn't create an incredible mess of soap scum and slimy drippage. The one bar of soap I keep in my shower requires a great deal of maintenance.

As for the products themselves, this charcoal shampoo bar is said to address flaky scalps (which I definitely have—due to sunburn in the summer and dryness in the winter). One review also said it addressed their oily hair nicely. The B.O.B. website gives a great trio of gifs that teach you how to use the bar, and a different trio for the conditioner.

Purlisse Matcha Green Tea Antioxidant Sheet Mask, 6 Pack –  Retail Value $28

VIP subscribers are sent this box of 6 antioxidant sheet masks. I've long been ambivalent about sheet masks, and simply pass them to a friend anytime they come my way. But this time around I decided to use one of these masks and see if I could change my own mind with this one that's meant to soothe skin, fight free radicals, and improve skin texture.

Sigh again. First of all, doesn't this mask look huge on me? Do I have a tiny face? It felt like no amount of fussing could get it to lay smoothly on me without touching my hair. After a few minutes, I admit the mask did feel very soothing and cooling. But shortly thereafter the essence began to run into my eyes and burn. The packaging advises to rub the essence in after removing the mask, and not to wash your face, but it left my skin feeling sticky through to morning. In the end I realized I'm still not a sheet mask gal and gave the rest to friends.

Verdict

I was expecting this month's curation of Love Goodly to touch on the makeup and beauty side of the spectrum, and it did just that. But while it was all quality as always, nothing inside this box blew my mind. Regular shampoo + conditioner bar users will be happy for a replenishment, but that's not me (yet, anyway). Those who wear full-face makeup will get use of the primer, but that's also not me. The loose eyeshadow and brush are lovely, but not something I'll use daily. VIP subscribers received 6 sheet masks, which aren't my thing. This is the first time since I began reviewing Love Goodly in July 2020 that almost a full box has not gone over great for me. That's a good track record, so Love Goodly still has my heart!

I am with you about sheet masks, Christen! I’ve always thought they were overrated. Give me a mask from a jar or tube though, and I am a happy girl. Ditto for bars of shampoo and conditioner. How the heck do you get the product evenly distributed over your hair without it dripping everywhere except on your hair. Glad to hear I am not the only one with these opinions. Sheet masks and bar shampoo always go in the emergency gift pile.

Glad to hear I’m not alone! Since these are such quality items, recipients of my emergency gift pile who love these types of products are always happy campers. So there’s that!
