First Impressions

This month included an activity sheet and a welcome sheet introducing this month's contents. This month's activity is "Baby's Family Book." It recommends making a family book for your child to look at and talk about each member of the family.

What's Inside This Box

I Love My Haircut! by Natasha Anastasia Tarpley - Retail Value $

I've reviewed this book in the past, and it is just as cute as it was the first time around. This is a book about a father and son duo heading to the barbershop to get baby's first haircut. Getting a haircut is a daunting task, so I definitely sympathize with this young man's fears. Each person Miles runs into before his appointment tells him that he will need to be brave; his dad explains to him that brave means not afraid. He gets a little shaken when he hears the loud clippers coming closer and closer, but, luckily, dad is there to help him be brave. He faces the clippers head-on, brave just like his dad! The book ends with dad requesting the same haircut as his son chose, aw!

My Family, Your Family! by Kathryn Cole & Cornelia Li - Retail Value $12.95

I've reviewed this book in the past, also, but I'm thankful for a fresh copy for Winnie; it was/is still one of Ro and I's favorites to read. Another beautifully illustrated book! This book features several different types of families while demonstrating their everyday lives. All families share the same activities; they eat, play, and spend time together alike, no matter who the members are or where they live. I absolutely love the inclusivity of this book and the little stories each illustration tells without needing to spell anything out.

Discussion Questions

Little Feminist Book Club includes discussion questions for each book every month. Each card follows the book's themes and provides questions to discuss with your little reader about their reading experience and other topics to consider. This month's topics are bravery and family. I love talking to my babies about their families and what it means to spend quality time with our families and how we are kind and support one another. Bravery is a rough topic that I am trying to teach by example to my kids. Ronan refuses to try new foods, and Win is just not wanting to pull herself up and stand by herself. They are both a work in progress, but I am hoping by the end of summer, both of them are on the other side of their fears.

The Verdict

Little Feminist Book Club had two great selections this month. Ro has already experienced both of these selections since we have been long-time subscribers, but they were new to Win. She loved each, pointed to the different members of all the families in My Family, Your Family!, and who could resist Miles from I Love My Haircut!.

After shipping, this subscription adds up to $25.90 a month; if you don't mind paying the price for excellent curation and content, then this subscription may be worth your investment. The subscription holds a value that doesn't always monetarily meet its cost, but I appreciate the service.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.
