World’s Finest: The Collection is a quarterly geeky DC Comics mystery box full of officially licensed DC collectibles and gear. For $48.99 per quarter, each box will have a specific theme and deliver exclusive items - including a brand new World’s Finest: The Collection vinyl figure.

This is one of the most impressive subscriptions, in my opinion, because it is well packaged, well planned, and completely exclusive. You can't buy these items on a shelf.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

World's Finest: The Collection always makes brilliant use of their intellectual property and creates a box that is a real show stopper when it arrives on your doorstep. I could see these boxes being displayed in a collector's room. This quarter's theme is "Crisis on Infinite Earths" and the box features the covers of the Crisis arc. The front of the box is the first issue. There is an information card that vaguely details the items inside.

Inside the World's Finest: The Collection "Crisis on Infinite Earths" Box

Long Sleeve Shirt

The shirt – as with all the items this quarter – features a cover of one of the 12 original Crisis covers. This one is perhaps the most famous and most copied. It is of Superman holding a broken Supergirl while he yells in agony. The back is blank, but the right sleeve features the Crisis logo. I'm not often a fan of clothing with just a block image on it. I think it looks awkward. However, I actually kinda dig this one. It's such a stark, cool, and famous cover. The logo on the sleeve is a nice detail. Of the five wearables I've received in this box, this may be my favorite.

The Spectre Vinyl Figure

This quarter's vinyl figure is Spectre, who plays a pivotal rule in the Crisis arc. It stands 10 inches tall, which I believe it one of the biggest I've seen from this sub. I'd have to say this is my favorite out of the five I've received, even if I'm not familiar with the character. Even the box looks badass.

Art Prints

There are art prints of four covers from the Crisis series. They are very colorful, sturdy, and true to the original cover. In fact – one nit-pic – one print keeps the "Crisis" logo, while the other three just leave the negative space for it. I feel like it should be all the same. I actually think it would have been cool to have what the original cover would have looked like; the words, title, and even the price. They are 6-1/2 by 10 inches.

Comic Cover Throw Blanket

The biggest item in the box is a plush throw blanket. It measures 3-3/4 by 5 feet – a perfect size to cover your legs in your recliner or give to your kids outside after you made them stand in the cold for a photo or just curl up in the fetal position and ponder your place in the multiverse. Sorry I wasn't able to able to get a good photo of the blanket itself. It's the same to the front of the box, which, of course, is the cover of the first Crisis comic.

Water Bottle

The image on this metallic water bottle is one of the 12 Crisis covers. I enjoy the cover, but think it looks a little busy when it's shrunk down to fit on a water bottle. Still, I like the bright blue color, its sturdy design, and the fact that it's a useful item. This would look great in a backpack at the comic book store, campsite, or disc golf course.

Flash Cover Keychain

The image, you guessed it, is also a Crisis cover. This one features The Flash. Once again I think it suffers a bit from being shrunk down, but it's stark enough to grab someone's attention. It measures 1-1/2 by 2 inches. As someone who is very picky about what I have on my keychain, I appreciate that it's not heavy or bulky.

Verdict

A very solid effort from World's Finest: The Collection. I haven't review this sub for a year, because they just unexpectedly stopped sending them to me. However, I'm very glad they sent this one, because I think it's one of their best. I'm a sucker for functional, useful items and almost everything in this box fits that. I loved the blanket and long sleeve shirt. The vinyl figure was the coolest one yet, in my opinion. The bottle and keychain were good medium/small sized items. If I could change one thing about this box, I think I would rather have one or two big posters than four small prints. I believe this is the fewest amount of items I've seen from this sub, but they accommodated that by making them larger and nicer. Overall, I was very happy with this installment and hope I don't have to wait another year for the next one.

Let's Talk About Value

At $55.99 ($48.99 + $7 shipping), you are paying approximately $9.33 for each of these six items. Remember these are official and exclusive. So I think that adds some value to the items. If you could buy these items in a store, I think the total price for all these items would be much higher. So, if you think you'd enjoy a majority of these items, you want DC items that many people don't have, and you like the surprise of receiving a big box delivered to your door every three months, this would be a good subscription for you or the comic book fan in your life.
