First Impressions

This month included an activity sheet and a welcome sheet introducing this month's contents. This month's activity is "Pronoun Play", which comes with a few name tags to cut out.

What's Inside This Box

Cerca Close by Juan Felipe Herrera, Blanca Gomez – Retail Value $7.99

This little board book is illustrated adorably. It teaches proximity, but at the same time, it is a great introductory book to Spanish. If it weren't for my terrible pronunciations, I could potentially use it to teach Ro a few phrases or words, but I wouldn't want to steer him in the wrong direction. Instead, I think I will gift this book to my nephew Rio, whose parents know the language.

The Pronoun Book by Chris Ayala-Kronos, Melita Tirado – Retail Value $8.99

Ro and I had a fun time shouting out all the pronouns on each page. The colorful and artistic pages kept us flipping through, and even though Ronan might be a little young to understand what a pronoun actually is (he still refers to himself as Roni), I think an important lesson to learn here is, to quote the book, "How do you know what someone wants to be called? Ask." Right now at 2 years and 8 months old, we are struggling with the concept of 'asking' and not demanding or assuming. Keep it simple and easy and just ask (nicely)!

Discussion Questions

Little Feminist Book Club included discussion cards for each book. Pronouns will play a huge role in Ro's social interactions, and I feel like this book will help me help him understand what it all means and why it is so important. Cerca/Close helps you to understand what's near and far, and that you can be either/or to someone in body and heart.

Verdict

Little Feminist Book Club sent out two great books this month. Both have beautiful illustrations and were easy reads to flip through. The value of this month's picks comes to $16.98, not quite hitting the mark on the cost of this subscription.

After shipping, this subscription adds up to $25.90 a month; if you're someone who doesn't mind paying a price for excellent curation and content, then this subscription may be worth it to you. The subscription holds a value that doesn't always monetarily meet its cost, but I appreciate the service.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.
