First Impressions

My first impressions of the June 2022 LOOKFANTASTIC Beauty Box was, "oooh what a pretty box," followed by excitement to test the hype of what's trending - would everything inside be all that it's cracked up to be? I was eager to find out.

What's Inside the Box

The June 2022 box encompasses what's trending; inspired by TikTok beauty secrets, this box is filled with six goodies that are getting all the social rage for you to decide whether they're myth or magic. Let's take a look!

Nuxe Very Rose 3-in-1 Soothing Micellar Water - 100ml - Retail Value: $13.80

I'm a makeup wipes kind of person, but I have sensitive skin, so not every makeup remover is gentle enough. This rose floral water is designed to gently cleanse skin without drying it out. But does it work? I had to see for myself. As you can see from the tissue in the photos, it took off my makeup beautifully, and better yet, it didn't sting whatsoever, and left a hydrating feel to my skin. It really did not feel drying, which I really appreciate. Hype-worthy? You bet.

Disciple What Spot? Dots - 9 ct - Retail Value: $11.19

These What Spot? Dots by Disciple are described as being the "perfect quick-fix solution for stressed out skin - calming redness, protecting from infection (and skin picking), and injecting a boost of natural salicylic acid to help detox blocked pores." My first thought was, my self-diagnosed rosacea (I've recently reached this conclusion for myself) is going to need a whole lot more than a dot or nine! Nonetheless, I targeted about four spots on my face I felt stood out more than others and hoped it wouldn't work TOO well (I was imagining circles of perfection on my face). This is meant to be left on the face for 6 hours or overnight, but I ended up going for daytime. The good news is, it's not uncomfortable; it's easy to forget you're wearing them. The bad news is, it's easy to forget you're wearing them. After unknowingly greeting my mail courier with them on my face, and nearly going into meetings with them on, I guess you could say I felt pretty cozy. They are however, not too noticeable. As for the effect, it's hard to say - I didn't have any erupting breakouts that were too horrific (fortunately/unfortunately), but maybe I prevented one or four from happening? The jury is still out, and I have five left to decide when the day comes.

Lottie London Power Foil in Golden Hour - Retail Value: $6.60

When I opened up this pot to realize I had a glitter situation on my hands, I gasped. You see, I hold a personal belief that glitter is just the devil's sand. It never goes away. It will sprinkle its evil for the rest of time. (As you can probably tell, I've had a couple of incidents...) I'm not really a glitter makeup person to begin with, but I will say that I was impressed by the swatch test. I took out two applicators - one to apply, and one to try and smudge it around to see what would happen. I found the application to be even and smooth, and despite attacking it with a brush after laying it down, it didn't really budge. So if glitter is your game, this one is pretty remarkable. The shade is Golden Hour, and I think it's a really lovely shade that blended in nicely against my pale skin. I could almost be converted... almost...

Bubble T Watermelon Body Scrub - 100ml - Retail Value: $7.46

I love a fruity scent, so it comes as no surprise that this watermelon body scrub was appealing to me. Although its fresh watermelon scent was detectable, it was subtle, so those sensitive to fragrances likely won't mind this one. Its gentle exfoliation properties make a nice addition to the shower routine. I don't know that I needed this much body scrub, or that I would call it magical, but it's perfectly nice.

Eyeko Brow Gel in Clear - 4ml- Value: $13

My eyebrows have a mind of their own, so I was happy to receive this clear brow gel to keep in my stash. It is waterproof and has a strong-hold designed to keep hairs in place for up to 24 hours. I gave it a go, and found that they did indeed keep them where I wanted them, but the effect wasn't a crunchy feeling that I imagine would happen if I stuck a wand in some hair gel and swiped across my brows. For me, I think this is a makeup bag staple.

Gatineau Radiance Gommage - 15ml - Retail Value: $12.44

This unique balm-to-oil enzymatic exfoliator with AHAs includes glycolic, lactic, malic acid, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin C. That is quite an ingredient list! LF says it is "the perfect exfoliator for sensitive skin and for those experiencing breakouts, clogged pores, dull skin, uneven skin tone, and pigmentation."

Before putting this on my face, I decided to give it a go on my hand, to practice the process. You're meant to apply generously over dry skin on the face and neck, massaging in circular motions until the texture liquefies, then leave on for 1-2 minutes before rinsing with warm water. I included a photo above (left) after applying to my skin - you can see it's a bit like a thick puddle on my hand. Then after several seconds of massaging in circular motions, it became much thinner and slippery (as seen in the right photo). I then immediately regretted wasting this special sauce on my hand instead of my face (it's not as large as the Bubble T scrub!), and used it where it belongs. My skin felt really nice afterward, I just wish there was more of it, especially since vitamin C is a long-term skin deal.

Beauty Box EDIT 06 (July 2022 Spoiler Inside)

I was thrilled to see all of the items from the box covered in this month's EDIT! You won't have to worry about FOMO with this month's LF since there are no variations - everybody will receive the same box! Inside this mini mag, there's content for glow-getting trends, fast facts about rose water, what your complexion says about your mood, and more about its trending theme. But if I'm being honest, I dash right back to the last page for a good ol' spoiler!

Coming up for July 2022 LOOKFANTASTIC Beauty Box: Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder By Terry. This will be a 4oz sample, with a value of about $21.60! From LOOKFANTASTIC:

Perfect and smoothen the look of your skin with By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder, a translucent setting powder that can be used to lock foundation in place, or on makeup-free skin for a flawless-looking, matt complexion.

The loose powder contains whipped Hyaluronic Acid Microspheres that 'fill in' pores and imperfections for smoother, more even toned results; it camouflages blemishes and blurs fine lines for a smoother, younger-looking canvas. Gliding effortlessly over skin, the lightweight powder delivers a sheer matt veil that sets makeup in place and balances skin for a shine free finish, without over-drying. Can be used alone or over foundation.

Verdict

On the whole, I really enjoyed the June 2022 LOOKFANTASTIC Beauty Box. Even though the pot of glitter gave me a bit of a scare, it was so impressive it could actually change my mind (something that I once thought to be impossible). There's some real goodies in this box with the gentle cleanse of rose water from Nuxe, the super ingredient-packed Gatineau, and Eyeko brow gel staple. I'm not in a position to form an opinion about the What Spot? Dots yet, and while the Bubble T Watermelon Body Scrub wasn't a stand out that felt radically trend-worthy, I still really like it. All in all, I feel this is a real win from LOOKFANTASTIC!

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $19.00

Value Breakdown:

Seeing as how I've come to find a smidgen of differential between the valuation I've come by with products in the LOOKFANTASTIC Beauty Box and they value LF sets, I'll break it down for you both ways.

LOOKFANTASTIC's Total Valuation: $69

My Total Valuation Calculation: $64.49

The Promise: Over $70. LF's Valuation: $69. My Estimation: $64.49. Based on my valuation, this $19 box would come to you at 71% less than the retail value, which is a great deal, whichever way you look at it!
