First Impressions

This month’s theme is ‘Confidence is Beautiful.’ The first thing I noticed about this month’s box was that it’s already the second Urban Hydration takeover box this year. Nothing against the brand, of course, but I’m hoping that there will be enough diversity in production curation from what we received in the first takeover box.

The back of the Cocotique info card describes all the products included in this month’s box. It also provides information on where to purchase the products online and exclusive discount codes where available.

Now, on to the items!

URBAN HYDRATION Honey Health and Repair Repairing Shampoo, 500 ml - Retail Value $10.99

I appreciate when subscriptions include a full hair care system. For those of us with very thick, curly hair, we need all the products. Keeping up with replacing all of these different products can sometimes be inconvenient, and if I don’t receive an entire hair care system off the bat, I can assure you most of my products will be mismatched (meaning, whatever brands are at T.J. Maxx that day). This shampoo is from Urban Hydration’s ‘Honey Health and Repair’ hair care system. I’ve tried other systems from this brand in the past (the castor oil system, I believe), but I’m glad to have the pleasure of trying this product line this time around. While I enjoyed the results of the castor oil system, the scent of castor oil honestly grosses me out. This Honey Health and Repair Repairing Shampoo gave me the best of both worlds; not only did it provide the expected results but the scent was also quite delicious. It feels lightweight but very cleansing, which I appreciate. It definitely removed all of the product buildup without leaving my hair feeling stripped.

URBAN HYDRATION Honey Health and Repair Deep Conditioner, 500 ml - Retail Value $10.99

This entire product line is all about the honey, sweet vanilla bean extract, and argan oil. That’s a powerhouse trio of ingredients, all of which play off one another to create the most intense repairing and hydrating treatment for your hair. This deep conditioner certainly delivered the results as expected, and it too had a delightful scent. Within the formula, the honey is used to moisturize, while the argan oil controls frizz, promotes hair growth, and intensifies shine, and finally, the sweet vanilla bean extract assists with damage control. Those all sound like great things to me, so I’m truly happy to have this. After use, my hair felt soft and hydrated but my curls stayed weightless and bouncy; an ideal combo for me. I’m excited to see if I notice any long-term results down the road, but either way, I’m comforted knowing that these products are sulfate, paraben, and dye free.

URBAN HYDRATION Honey Health and Repair Daily Moisture and Style Lotion, 200 ml - Retail Value $9.99

For those who have hair similar to mine, curly, textured, and dry, the number-one thing we need is intense hydration in order for our hair to look its best and be the healthiest it can be. This daily moisturizer is a product I will use on a regular basis. Because it’s made for daily use, it mainly targets tangles and works on moisturizing while restoring softness to hair. Like the other products from this line, this daily moisturizer is free from all harmful ingredients like sulfates, parabens, and dyes. Plus, it’s great not only for natural hair but also relaxed and color-treated hair. What I really appreciate is that this product can be used on wet or dry hair. If you know you know that washing curly, textured, dry, hair daily is a huge no no. If I washed my hair every time I wanted to apply this moisturizer my curls would dry out like the Sahara a become frizzy and brittle and breakage would be rampant. But with this leave in conditioner I can apply hydration to my curls after wash or while dry and the product delivers the moisturizing benefits either way. If fully absorbs into my hair without leaving behind any greasy film or residue.

URBAN HYDRATION Honey Health and Repair Style Setting Cream, 250 ml - Retail Value $8.99

Now here is another great hydrating product for curly, textured, or dry hair. This Urban Hydration Style Setting Cream can also be used on both wet and dry hair. It locks in hydration and leaves my curls looking defined, while making my hair more manageable and easier to style. I'm going to be honest with you... I am a wash-and-go kind of girl, so products like these are a staple in my hair care routine. I really appreciate that this cream doesn't leave behind any white flaky residue or crunchy texture after it dries down.

URBAN HYDRATION Jamaican Castor Oil Style, Twist, and Curl Cream, 250 ml - Retail Value $8.99

I was supposed to receive the Jamaican Castor Oil Style, Twist, and Curl Cream, but they must have run short on product. Instead, I received EXSENS Tiger Eye Macadamia Body Oil, which I’m actually really happy about. We received this same body oil in a past box, and I have loved it since then. This is an all-natural oil that can be used on both skin and hair. For me, I enjoy using this on my body only. My hair requires a heavier kind of oil. My favorite thing about this oil is the lightweight texture of the product. It absorbs so quickly into my skin and leaves behind smooth, soft skin without any of that nasty greasy residue. What makes this oil especially unique, though, is the mini Tiger Eye crystals included within the formula. This type of crystal is said to promote protection and be a barrier against negative energies, as well as promote balance and open the ‘third chakra’ (solar plexus). Now, crystal energy and all that isn’t really my thing, but regardless, I’m super happy to have another one of these body oils.

Verdict

I thought this was a good month for Cocotique! Although it was the second Urban Hydration takeover box for this year, it did offer up enough product diversity and even gave subscribers a chance to try a completely different product line from the brand. The repairing shampoo and deep conditioner duo was a win for me. The powerhouse ingredient trio of honey, argan oil, and sweet vanilla bean makes for a wonderfully luxurious formula that helps to moisturize curls, promote hair health, prevent breakage, and tame frizz. Although it may not be anything too new or exciting, this product line is certainly solid and does what it says, and that’s a win for me. The daily moisturizer and style cream function as expected as well, and they smell pleasant, which I appreciate. Lastly, the body oil from EXSENS was a nice bonus product for me as a replacement for the Jamaican Castor Oil curl cream, and I was not at all disappointed by it. Overall, it was nice to have the chance to try out the Honey product line from Urban Hydration, and the value for the box was lower than usual but still there.
