First Impressions

I love reading cheesy holiday romances this time of year -it's so nice to cozy up with an easy read that isn't too demanding intellectually, so I figured this book would be a nice pick!

Book Summary from Amazon:

When chef Charlie Goodwin gets hit on the head on the L.A. set of her reality baking show, she loses a lot more than consciousness; she also loses her ability to taste and smell—both critical to her success as show judge. Meanwhile, Charlie's identical twin, Cass, is frantically trying to hold her own life together back in their quaint mountain hometown while running the family's bustling bakery and dealing with her ex, who won't get the memo that they're over.

With only days until Christmas, a desperate Charlie asks Cass to do something they haven't done since they were kids: switch places. Looking for her own escape from reality, Cass agrees. But temporarily trading lives proves more complicated than they imagined, especially when rugged firefighter Jake Greenman and gorgeous physician assistant Miguel Rodriguez are thrown into the mix. Will the twins' identity swap be a recipe for disaster, or does it have all the right ingredients for getting their lives back on track?

My BOTM Pick for December

The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox - Paperback Retail Value $17.00 (On sale for $13.30)

This book was so easy to get into and I was thankful for a fun holiday escape. This is a classic switcheroo tale of two sisters, both of whom are bakers, but while one works in L.A. as a glamorous television host, the other still lives in their small hometown helping to run their family bakery. Although both girls have seemingly decent lives, when they swap lives, they realize that they might be missing out on more than they knew. Each twin discovers herself in the process and figures out what they want their lives to look like in the future, but of course, there are some snafus along the way seeing as both of them have been living a lie for the past week.

This book was just the right mix of cheesy romance and holiday spirit with some delicious baked goods thrown in for good measure. It had the perfect Christmas vibe with plenty of heartwarming moments and likable characters. It really was a very tame and mild book, nothing too deep to reflect on here, but it was entertaining and exactly the right book for me to enjoy while escaping from the hustle and bustle of the holidays going on around me!

If you picked this book this month, please let me know what you think of it!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I *almost* picked this book, for the exact same reason! I just like light, fluffy, holiday happiness this time of year. But I am not a huge fan of “assumed identities” because I feel like sometimes the situations a main character gets herself into while pretending to be someone else can be written in a way that feels… forced and ridiculous? Like it ruins my suspense of disbelief because it just goes a little too far.

I wasn’t sure how this one was written so I skipped it but now I’m kinda wishing I hadn’t… lol. But your reviews always make me feel that way! 😂

This one wasn’t too bad as far as the assumed identity aspect went! I totally get what you mean, but there were no wildly awkward moments that made me cringe! lol. I think this book would be an easy one to locate if you wanted to track it down for a quick holiday read! If you end up grabbing it, let me know what you think! Thanks for reading, Lauren! 🙂
