Allure Beauty Box August 2021 Review

This handy booklet has all the product info inside.

Realher Eye am Resilient Metallic Bronze Eyeliner, 1.5 g - Full Size! Retail Value $16.00

Moving on.

Hello, eyeliner that isn't black! You are such a rarity. Welcome to my home.

This bronze shade is very pretty and, because it is buildable, also perfect for smearing and smoking, I feel like it is a great shade for between summer and fall. You can load it on for drama or add the most demure accent to your eye look. It lasted a few hours on me without any movement, but I imagine if your eyelids aren't wildly and weirdly oily, its longevity will only improve.

A swatch of a not-black eyeliner.

Beautaniq Beauty Blush Serum in 'Magenta Sky', 10 mL - Full Size! Retail Value $16.00

I absolutely adore cream blush. I pretty much stopped wearing foundation last year and instead use an SPF with a little bit of added glow. That cream-on-cream application feels natural and effortless. I own quite a few Glossier cream blushes and use them all the time. This feels slightly similar, but is thicker and possibly even more pigmented. Literally, you need just the tiniest amount of this bold magenta shade! I dabbed little dots onto my cheeks and blended into my SPF until I had a flushed look that I thought was very pretty. I will reiterate that for someone like me, who is very fair, this would be very easy to overapply. I am fine with that tradeoff because it means that this stuff will really pop on richer skin tones that so often experience subpar coverage and pigmentation from some cream formulas.

This looks wild against my skin. But don't worry.

Here I am using it on my bare face on the left. You need just a wee bit!

Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner, 13 mL - Estimated Value $1.91 (buy a full size 150 mL for $22.00)

I always seem to wish some random inexpensive product in this box was the full-size item, and this month, it is this little bottle of toner. The full size is only $22 and I would have gladly swapped that option out for the 111Skin cream, tbh. I am a big fan of toners because they are an easy way to refresh your face all day. This formula looks like water but it is somehow juicier? I don't know how to quite articulate it. It is slippier and slightly thicker than water but applies just like water would. In fact, if I had a bigger bottle, I would be tempted to put it into a misting bottle and apply it that way. It is refreshing, cooling, hydrating, and smells yummy like lavender and rosemary. Inside is hyaluronic acid, glycerine, and loads of antioxidants. This is such an easy way to give your skin a moisture and antioxidant boost any time of day. And for $22? I will add to cart.

Mediheal N.M.F Intensive Hydrating Beauty Mask - Retail Value $1.99

I love a good sheet mask so I am always pretty happy when one arrives in a box. This one was formulated to provide hydration and boost your skin's moisture retention. It had loads of clear serum and was a thinner fabric that fit my face well. It has a slight hairspray sort of scent, but it was so light that I won't hold it against this mask. The effect of the serum was instantly cooling even without any fridge time and my skin did indeed feel soft and hydrated when I removed it.

Avène Thermal Spring Water, 1.6 fl oz - Retail Value $9.00

New members will receive this item. Renewing members may receive Decorté Moisture Liposome Serum/Decorté AQ Serum Absolute, Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum, or Clarins Total Eye Lift. Members will not receive the same product twice.

My final item is near and dear to my heart. I have gone through countless cans of this stuff. When I first started diving into beauty, I thought "fancy canned water" was, well, kind of dumb. And I get it if you feel that way. But I love this stuff for a general refresh, setting a dewy makeup look, hydrating my face between skincare steps, and more. The idea behind this specific brand of fancy spray water is that the French spring water has minerals in it that nourish the skin without irritating it. I don't know much about that, but I do love fancy spray water and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Verdict: This Allure box has a total value of around $314.90 which is the highest value Allure box I can remember and also a great deal for $23. That being said, a lot of how you feel about this curation is going to be directly tied to that 111Skin product. For me, there was still enough in here besides that cream to make this feel like a useful box. But, then again, I love cream blush, spray water, and non-black eyeliner. Do I think this assortment is going to land for every subscriber? No. But there is value here, even if it isn't the most knock-your-socks-off Allure offering so far this year.

The Eau Thermale (canned water) by Avène is also special bc the thermal spring contains skin-beneficial micro fauna which has been studied & scientists theorize it plays a big part in the soothing & healing capabilities of the water. Since the water is not processed- simply canned, it’s believed the combo of minerals & microscopic organisms is what makes the Avène products so efficacious & nice to use.
Dr. Dray has a great video on YouTube about the best products from Avène & goes into detail about the benefits of the Eau Thermale spray there (and a few other videos as well) which can provide more explanation abt its uses and benefits.

I liked the Eau Thermale from Avene the first time I tried it in a box from FFF & my skin inexplicably seemed to love it too.
I’m a strong believer that “clean” beauty is a marketing scam; however, if anything is clean-this product is. Plus, its Fragrance & essential oil free!
Jokes aside, many ppl see benefits applying this product (& some similar ones) to irritated, itchy, dry/flakey, red, aggravated skin bc it can help repair, sooth & heal skin, but its also been recognized for its ability to help discomfort/ itch that accompanies some ailments. This makes it a good product to try for those w/ eczema, rosacea, skin irritation, sensitive skin, itchy scalp etc… & anyone can appreciate that it’s not messy & is extremely convenient to carry, plus there’s no worry abt applying too much or too often.
Ive heard those w/ babies&kids highlight its simplicity, portability, & ease of use.

*In particular ppl w/ scalp issues rave about it being able to help ease aggravating side effects like itching/burning when other products fail.*

A lot of ppl have ALOT of opinions abt products like this & I understand if you’re not excited by it. But even if you don’t have a specific appreciation for its skincare value, it’s actually pretty utilitarian as far as sub box beauty products go.
As a curly haired lady, I like traveling w/ it for using on hair & skin. I also throw it in my bag in a pinch bc it can rehydrate/renew my curls & hair products or tame my locks when creating a specific style.
I HIGHLY recommend applying between steps of your skin care routine or when you need to remoisten skin, particularly before using specific products that benefit most from being used on damp skin (like HA).

Not much compares to keeping face spray in the fridge & misting yourself on a hot day. If you think that sounds ridiculous then you haven’t tried it! Of course I live in TX… but throw it in your fridge/cooler and tell me it’s not amazing!
It’s also useful for applying & setting makeup, spraying brushes, & wetting products that require that.
I mentioned it’s great for curly hair, but others will likely appreciate using it to smooth hair when brushing or putting back into a bun/ponytail.
Ppl mention carrying it to shave on the go, clean their face/kids, on pets, or unique uses around the house.

*If you don’t have sensitive skin issues or use for it in your skincare routine, I would recommend giving it to someone who does, bc it’s a unique and convenient product. Because it’s pretty expensive when buying at the drugstore, so many don’t discover how useful & great it could be for them or their kids.*

Any of the yearly subscribers get the oops we just billed you 270ish for a yearly. We processed a refund so to expect it with 7-10 business days. Oh, and because we screwed up, we are willing to let you have a year at 199.

Seriously? You screw up that bad and make me wait 7-10 business days for a refund? That’s a lot of money for a lot of subscribers, I sent them a snotogram.

Rant over😡

Reply ButtonReply

Katie

Thanks! Called n got the same deal for $199 + tax n a refund on the $270. The hit or miss like this hero item makes the lower price reasonable.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

Did anyone who got the Vitabrid have the squeeze bulb and dropper separate from the cap?

Mine came that way. I’m not going to bother to complain to Allure because I don’t want a replacement, since I didn’t want it in the first place.

Reply ButtonReply

SBR

I haven’t checked mine but it was a repeat item for me 😡. I “think” that was a complaint the first time that it was in the box.

Annette

Just checked my 111 cream, is anyone elses tub only about 1/3 full? If I had paid $270 for this (never) I would have been highly disappointed.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

Mine looked to be 3/4 full. I’m not that upset because the fragrance is unpleasant.

Reply ButtonReply

Annette

I called they told me that was normal!! Yikes!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Becky King

Wonderful! So glad you are getting a replacement!

Annette

They just replied to my email and said they were going to resend another one, funny they blew me off on the phone call but responded to my email, go figure!!!

Becky King

Well, in all the pictures it sure is all the way up to the top! What do they say about that!

Melissa

Well is it sold by how full the container is or by the weight of the product?

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

From a business standpoint, having a container considerably larger than the volume of the product is wasteful. It also looks bad even if the amount of product corresponds to what the label lists.

The only way to be certain would be to empty the jar and weigh it on a scale.

Jinytte

We received it today and my mother’s and mine were about half full. More annoying is that mine had cream smeared around the edges outside of the plastic protective insert. It may just be that they were not careful when they filled it (maybe knowing it was for a beauty box and not full retail they couldn’t care less) but I’m worried it’s been tampered with. 🤨

Reply ButtonReply

Annette

I sent an email yesterday, we shall see what they say!

Becky King

Mine was about 2/3 full! Call Allure—be very nice and tell them about it, they may send you a replacement!

Reply ButtonReply

Becky King

Not sure if an email is good enough, I wish you had called them! It would have been worth it!

OLIVI

Focus on skincare product itself, so sick of the politics. Noting wrong with the 111skin day cream on my combination skin, super hydrating, soft on skin.

Reply ButtonReply

Becky King

My samples of the 111Skin Day Cream from Ipsy have a very slight fragrance if any; I am shocked by the intoxicating and lingering smell that causes me to sneeze from the Allure full size one. And the color and consistency are slightly different. It just seems like an entirely different product! Hasn’t anyone else noticed?! (I might mention perfumes and scents usually never bother me.)

Cara

Maybe nobody else cares. Much more important things going on right now to fuss about.

Reply ButtonReply

Barbara

Ditto on what Tiffany said also

Claire

Ditto to what Tiffany said. Perhaps you are on the wrong website.

Tiffany Nicole

This whole website is dedicated to caring about that exact kind of thing. Why are you even here and commenting (in a very rude manner every time)? Maybe go somewhere where you can talk about those much more important things going on right now. There is no need to go around attacking strangers for no reason other than you apparently being in a very bad mood.

Julia

Don’t love the box but I just had to say, Megan you are glowing!

Reply ButtonReply

Sandra

Cara I agree with you. Glowing is just a nice way to say greasy.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan

Thanks Julia! I have to give credit to my Super Goop Glow Screen. It makes my skin look so happy and healthy! Highly recommend.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan

Hey Cara, licensed esthetician here. A nice healthy glow is often a sign of healthy skin and isn’t necessarily linked to sebum production. In fact, it is often linked to a good sebum balance. Hope this helps!

Reply ButtonReply

Claire

I am 65 and have dry skin. My skin looks younger when it has a “glow”. I keep the word “should” out of my vocabulary because what it implies is that I am a supreme authority on what others “should” and “should” not do. Nobody has a right to press their opinions on others. I love glow.

Reply ButtonReply

Mary L.

No Cara, glowing and greasy are two different things. If you aren’t sure about the difference between the two, Google can help.

Reply ButtonReply

Jacki

Megan, I am so with you on the canned water! Now I keep a mini in the fridge and a large with my daily routine. It is so great to help spread thick products or just feel bougie. Now if I could only get gel blush to look less like your wrist and more like your cheeks.

Laurie

With three out of the five products being made in China, I am dumping this sub for good. They all went in the trash. I will not even try to pass them off to a friend. It’s too bad the toner was so small as it and the mask are the rat products and the only products in the box that I am keeping. I love kbeauty and the products are trustworthy.

Reply ButtonReply

Erika

Threw that Beautaniq right in the trash. It had the most horrible smell and was too cheap in quality and unflattering color to even gift. I don’t think any skin tone could wear it.

Reply ButtonReply

Sue

Agreed, I avoid beauty/skin products made in China in general because the quality of the ingredients tends to be worse with things like contaminants.

Reply ButtonReply

Nikki

That blush would be so gorgeous on darker skin tones. Its gorgeous on her too though!

Reply ButtonReply

Mandi

I thought the problem people had with 111 Skin was that they use different formulas for their box products, not just that it was made in China? It seems like they “water down” the products, even though they’re using safe ingredients. Is the ingredient list exactly the same as on the brand’s site? Someone on another site got this product in Ipsy like a year ago and the ingredient list was different.

Reply ButtonReply

Vivian

I am with you Megan on wanting a bigger bottle of the toner. Thanks for another great review. Can’t wait to get my box.

Reply ButtonReply

Tanya M.

Thank you, I enjoyed the review. I could have saved myself some time had I read this first which covered my ingredient question. I am still using up Ayuna III and two other moisturizers so this goes on the shelf for a moment. I’m thrilled I get to try a sample of the Decorté AQ serum. I wish I could read more of the print on this sample but I am happy with the box. Also glad you mentioned the blush serum, now I will keep that for myself… lol.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

I would have loved to get the Decorte AQ, it sounded really terrific.

Reply ButtonReply

Kitty

Allure was consistently great last year but I have been more and more disappointed with the boxes each month of this year. I have just cancelled my monthly subscription and have switched to ipsy which I have much better hopes for. The transparency and quality of recent allure boxes have left much to be desired.

Reply ButtonReply

Carol

Love that blush!!
I would have ordered this if the main item was something other than that cream.

Reply ButtonReply

Ranee

Wow..allure has a skip month button now..cool.

Reply ButtonReply

Jody E

Why so much hydration in the middle of summer?! I am too oily. Now I am sad because I adore toners but lavender is something I cannot use. I got the Vitabird serum(love that) which is a repeat for me.
I will gift this box away. What a bummer. I am on the losing streak of box items this summer that I can use.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

I got my box today and I got the Vitabrid C variant. I don’t use a lot of Vitamin C products because my skin is sensitive.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

Transitioning between suppliers does not necessarily mean that a company will get same quality ingredients.

When repairing vehicles, for example, there are OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and “like kind quality” parts which will be similar, but not identical.

To claim that 111Skin products will be completely identical regardless of manufacturing location is nonsensical.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn Galloway

The statement says they use the exact same suppliers; it’s the manufacturer that is different.

Reply ButtonReply

Tiffany Nicole

I love that blush! It looks gorgeous on you

Reply ButtonReply

Snow

Agree! You look fantastic in the picture, Megan. I can’t believe you are only wearing the blush.

Reply ButtonReply

Nan

Love your reviews. Thanks!
