Little Feminist Book Club Ages 0-2 June 2021 Review

I received this welcome sheet introducing this month’s books.

On the back of the welcome page is this month’s activity, which is “Rainbow Color Hunt." This month's delivery included a rainbow printout. We cut each color out and we went around the room matching each color with different objects in the room. Ronan definitely made the connection because, after a few colors, he brought me a green cup and a blue Daddy Shark as I held up those colors.

Our Rainbow – Retail value $7.99

What a lovely book! Each page is dedicated to describing the meaning behind every color in the rainbow flag. Turn the page and you're met with vibrant color, inclusive illustrations, and a kind, thoughtful message. This collaborative book includes art from nine different illustrators; so many styles and different faces, Ronan is completely hooked. June is pride month, and I can't believe I never realized that each color represents a deeper meaning; I am grateful to Little Feminist this month for educating me and educating our future.

Dad By My Side by Soosh – Retail value $7.99

Oh, I just cannot get enough of this book's illustrations. It is beyond cute and illustrates what every little girl wants from her daddy: his presence. Dad's body type compared to this tiny baby girl is comical, yet so realistic. I love how this book brings to life the kind of activities a father-daughter duo might do to bond, and the moral of the story is that dad is always there. This is a perfect book to help celebrate Father's Day, too!

Discussion Questions

Little Feminist Book Club includes discussion questions for each book every month. Each card follows the book's themes and provides questions to discuss with your little reader about their reading experience and other topics to consider. Ro and I loved reading each of these books over and over and over. He can't get enough of Our Rainbow's colorful presentation, while Dad by my Side kept us giggling. Dad by my Side's discussion question brought up the topic of long-distance relationships; my sisters live far away, so we are constantly watching videos, face timing, and talking about them so I know he will feel that connection with them, even if they're not present. Our Rainbow's discussion question talks about the pride we feel about ourselves and what we love. Ronan is so into his hair right now, haha! He loves to brush it and thoroughly enjoys it when mom puts his hair up into a tiny ponytail. We get a lot of comments about cutting his hair, but I could never ever take that away from him. Finding love and confidence to be ourselves is priceless, and we definitely are embracing that at an early (yet impressionable!) age.

Verdict: Little Feminist Book Club had another great month! The messages this month of self-love and celebrating relationships are precious. Even though each book has big meanings behind it, they were easy to convey to a very small audience with every colorful and heartfelt page. After shipping, this subscription adds up to $26.70 a month; the retail of this box comes to $15.98. I know there is a $10 difference between the value and cost of subscription, but I can't get enough of Little Feminist finds, and it means so much to me to teach Ronan the important messages conveyed in each delivery.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.
