Kaause Pet Box is a subscription box for pets that sends out toys, treats, and handmade Kaause accessories based on the size and style preferences of your pup or kitty. Each purchase from Kaause benefits a Canadian charity; you can choose whether you'd like to donate to either Single Moms in Progress or Guardians Best.

When you are signing up for this subscription, you must choose your pet type (a dog, cat or both). They ask a few general questions like the size of your pet, his/her name, breed, some of her food preferences, and whether she wears a collar or a harness. After filling out your pet's information, Kaause will send you an e-mail recommending the subscription type that would best suit your needs.

Murray is my 9-year-old Corgi-Maltese mix. He weighs about 22lbs and is obsessed with trying new treats. He is also very fluffy right now and has an appointment at the beauty shop next week!

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Kaause Box December 2020 Review

This monthly box has an exciting mix of festive accessories, treats, and toys; Murray, my 9-year-old Corgi/Maltese mix, can't wait to "dig in" to it!

foufouBrands Frost Knotted Toy - Retail Value $16.99 (currently on sale for $8.99)

At first glance, it is hard to tell that this toy is meant for a dog. It has festive snowflake details on the ears and belly and plush corduroy on the rest of his body (seemingly too nice for a dog toy); however, the inside hides a few irresistible squeakers, and it feels like it is made to last through some light-medium chewing activity.

Murray loves the hidden squeakers and plush appendages.

Kaause Box Matching Mask and Bandana Set

Last year Murray and I had matching jammies, but this year we will definitely be rocking this matching set of mask and bandana.

This fabric is so soft and fits comfortably on my face and behind my ears.

I absolutely love Murray's bandana; you just slide his collar through and the bandana stays put all day/week/month long! It is a great size for him, and its fabric is very soft and cozy.

Someone in the background is jealous! Haha!

Harvard's Finest Salmon & Blueberry Soft Chews, 5oz - Retail Value $6.99

These treats are extremely soft. I tried to put one inside of the following item to entice Murray, and it disintegrated between my fingers at the lightest squeeze. I definitely get why Murray loves them; they probably just melt inside his mouth.

These treats are high in omegas and anti-oxidants and are grain, corn, sugar, salt, and soy-free.

Teeth Cleaning Ball Toy - Retail Value $24.99 (currently on sale for $12.99)

Typically, Mur wouldn't care about this toy, but he couldn't resist it when I lodged some treats inside the middle of this ball. It has a unique design with rubber teeth all over to clean and massage your dog's teeth and gums, and it also smells minty to freshen his breath.

Murray loved simultaneously pushing this ball with his nose, licking it, and pouncing on it. I received the green ball, but the colors may vary.

Boucherie Burger Sliders Dog Treats, 4oz - Retail Value $9.99

Mur couldn't wait to get his paws on these crunchy sliders. Sometimes he loses interest in crunchy treats, but he cleaned up every crumb this time around. These treats don't have any preservatives, additives, or artificial flavors.
I would have liked them better if a lot of them weren't stuck together, but Murray seemed to like his huge mound of stuck together sliders.

Ourhome520 Poop Bag Roll - Estimated Value $0.67 (Buy 10 rolls for $6.68)

You can never have enough of these around! These poop bags are durable and easy to open, two qualities in poop bags that are absolutely necessary. This brand is compostable and biodegradable and very compact; you can fit this roll in any standard dispenser.

Verdict: Murray was very pleased with this month's Kaause Box. He loved his new toys and treats, and he looks so handsome in his new bandana; I was pleasantly surprised to find something in the box for me, too! This was our first box, and I really enjoyed the unboxing experience. The total cost of this box, including the $10 shipping charge was $59.99... That is really steep for a monthly dog subscription. The total value, using sale prices and excluding the mask and bandana, came to $39.62; however, using the full retail prices, the value comes to $59.63, which is about what the box costs (excluding the mask & bandana, which, in my opinion, were the best items this month). I believe the items sent out were genuinely high-quality items; however, this box is more of a treat yourself (or Frido) type box rather than a "more bang for your buck" type. Keep in mind, a part of all proceeds is donated to charity as well.

I would also like to add that I used the single box pricing (their website gives the single box a price of $44.99, but at checkout, it changes to $49.99). If you choose to commit to a 12-month subscription, the price drastically decreases to $29.99 + $10.00 shipping, which is billed monthly.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $49.99 monthly + $10 shipping, giving each of the 7 items in the box an average cost of $8.57.

I tried this box and they clearly put more care into what they sent you for review. My box was blue, not white, the masks did not match, the treats made my dogs itch, the ball broke open, I was charged an international exchange fee, yet it came from Texas. Very, very disappointing, I’m glad I didn’t pay full price.

Hi Lisa, I sent an email to the address on your website.

An international exchange fee! Wow! Hopefully you disputed the fee. That’s crazy.

I tried to dispute it but they say they are based in Canada. I placed my order and then 4 days later the international charge hit. The box I received was a plain blue box with a sticker that said Kauusebox, It looked like a DIY box. Even the label was handwritten and the return address was one of those free lables you get from March of Dimes. Nothing about this screamed professional.
