GlossyBox January 2021 Review

GlossyBox includes an info booklet that tells you about each included item, its value, and a tip on how to use it. This month also featured a few pieces of literature along with coupon codes.

An Extra Treat: Zolt CBD Drink Mix: Balance Coconut, 0.17 oz. - Retail Value $3.20 (buy a pack of 10 here for $32.00)

If you have been following my reviews over the years then you know that I don't mess with anything coconut. That being said, I passed this along to my husband who absolutely loved it! To make, just mix the full packet with 16 ounces of water. The mix is made with 20mg Hemp CBD Isolate grown in Kentucky, Citric Acid, Natural Coconut Flavor, Organic Stevia, and Organic Cane Sugar. This mix is meant to "raise your baseline performance mentally, emotionally, and physically." My husband really loved the overall flavor of the drink, saying it wasn't overwhelming with the coconut and perfectly sweet. He mentioned that he liked it so much he might look into buying more!

AfterSpa Reusable Rounds, 2 pack - Retail Value $10.00

I am always on the lookout for reusable makeup remover rounds like this one, but I still cannot find anything that beats a simple washcloth. Based on the directions, I washed these rounds once before using them, soaked them with warm water, and let them dry. I still had a lot of fabric fallout when I used these though which I really don't like because it tends to then get in my eye. The round is very soft and I love that all you have to use is water and it will still do a great job at removing your makeup. The soft fabric didn't cause any skin irritation or feel harsh as well which I liked. Maybe I need to wash these again and see if the fabric still comes off when using, but overall I just wasn't blown away by the quality of these.

High Beauty High Maintenance Cannabis Peeling Mask, 20 ml - Retail Value $20.00 (buy 50 ml here for $46.00)

This mask was incredible! I have very dry skin which causes a lot of dry patches and buildup on my skin, especially around my nose and chin area, so a mask that exfoliates is exactly what I needed! This mask is formulated with hemp seed oil, although it didn't have that harsh hempseed smell that I don't love just fresh and clean which is great, plus it is free of CBD and THC. It is also made with certified organic plant oils, high-potency antioxidants, and pure plant essential oils. The mask works to exfoliate and purify your skin leaving you with a smooth and hydrated surface. I simply washed my face and applied a generous amount to damp skin and rubbed in a circular motion before rinsing with warm water. I was able to get a really nice exfoliation within seconds of rubbing into my skin, I removed a lot of buildup without the mask feeling too harsh on my sensitive skin. I was left with super smooth skin! I did feel a little dry the next day, but I just used some extra moisturizer and my favorite facial oil to pack on the moisture. What a treat for my skin!

KORRES Greek Yoghurt Probiotic SuperDose Face Mask, 0.68 fl oz. - Retail Value $10.00 (buy 100 ml here for $49.00)

My dry skin is screaming yay after using this mask! This mask is made with real Greek Yoghurt, Aloe Leaf Juice, and Rice Extract. All of these work to boost collagen, nourish, restore, rejuvenate, and soothe irritated skin. It works to restore your skin's natural protective layer that can be impacted by pollution, stress, and diet. I started with a clean dry face before applying a thick layer of the mask. Once the mask was on it felt really cool on my skin but almost too tingly. That sensation went away quickly though and I left the mask on for about 15 minutes. Once I rinsed the mask off I was left with this extremely hydrated, baby soft skin. I still felt a slight burning sensation with a little redness, but overall my skin feels soft and smooth. I can't wait to see continued results after using this again!

Bioderma Sebium H20 Micellar Water, 16.7 fl oz. - Retail Value $14.90

I have naturally very dry skin so I tend to stay away from makeup removers like this only because they dry me out even more. After reading more about this, I was hopeful that it wouldn't irritate my skin. The site says that this product is great for combination to oily skin along with skin prone to irritations. This is enriched with purifying agents, zinc gluconate and copper sulfate, and micelles that mimic the natural composition of the skin. All of this together gently removes makeup and limits sebum secretion. I loved how this smelled, not like other makeup removers, it was light and had a fresh cucumber scent to it. It didn't burn my skin or irritate my eyes which is unusual for products like this. I really thought this was going to be my new makeup remover, but I woke up with some red flakey areas on my chin and cheeks after using this twice, which tells me it irritated my dry skin just a bit. I am going to pass this along to my niece who was recently asking me about makeup removers and if she should use them, so hopefully it will work a bit better for her!

Seed Phytonutrients Lightweight Facial Lotion, 2.0 oz. - Retail Value $34.00

I sort of feel as though I keep saying the same things, but this lotion did not work well with my dry skin. The site says that this is a lightweight lotion that is perfect for normal to oily skin. It can be used as a daily moisturizer for those that want moisture without the heavyweight of a cream or it can be used as a primer. Some of the top ingredients in this lotion include Water (Aqua), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Coconut), Propanediol (Corn Sugar), Polyglyceryl-2 Stearate (Vegetable), and Cetearyl Glucoside (Coconut/Sugar). This just didn't provide enough moisture to my skin even paired with my facial oil. As a primer, I am in love with the one that I am currently using (DMK Crème Glace Primer followed by Catrice Cosmetics Illuminating Prime & Fine Dewy Glow Fixing Spray) because it gives me a natural glow that I can't get on my own so I need to be really impressed to like something more than that one. Unfortunately, this made my skin feel a bit tight with a more matte finish to my skin that made my makeup feeling more cakey than glossy. I am going to pass this along to my niece as well who doesn't need as much heavyweight lotion as I do so hopefully she will enjoy it!

Verdict: This month's GlossyBox was a mix of some hits and misses. I really loved both face masks this month and appreciated that they were both so different from the other. One mask works to exfoliate your skin, removing all of that buildup to leave you with fresh new skin. The other mask works to hydrate and improves the balance on the top layer of your skin. I was able to use the exfoliating mask and then a few days later used the yoghurt mask to rehydrate my skin knowing that all of the dead skin buildups were gone. It was great to receive an extra treat this month as well! My husband is totally sold on it and is already wanting to buy more. While the lotion and makeup remover were too drying for my skin, I was able to pass on two full-size products to my niece to try. She is a teenager and is still figuring out beauty products so who better to share those few 'missed products' with. The products this month have an estimated retail value of around $92.10 or $88.90 if you don't count the drink mix which is not bad for a $21 box. While this month wasn't a total winner, I still really enjoyed testing new products and discovering what really works for my skin and what doesn't. I also love that the quality is always there so you can easily pass anything along to a friend that might love a product. For me, everything that didn't work this month wasn't because of the quality or the curation, it simply didn't work with my skin type which is totally ok! Not every box is going to be a winner, but it is the process and learning that I really love!

I checked out the rounds on the official site and while I didn’t see a dozen, they do have 5 in a few different shapes for the same price. I liked them, so I hope I can find a larger pack of them.

If they are the same ones I’m thinking, I bought a bunch on Amazon. Sometimes I think these products need a ruler next to them for perspective….the ones I’m referring to our like those small disposable cotton rounds people use.

As a fellow super dry skin gal, this box doesn’t excite me. And usually anything coconut, clogs my pores.

I agree, for someone with dry skin it wasn’t super exciting, but I just try to remind myself that not every person has dry skin so not every box can be geared towards that.

I would’ve liked to try the cannabis peeling mask, but unfortunately I didn’t get that in my box. Instead, I got an $8 chapstick-type lip product, Apivita Propolis, which I definitely will use living in a high desert climate. I like it but I have a lot of similar products, and the mask sounds wonderful. I also wish the RV was comparable on the variation items, but it’s not. I did like the box overall though, and feel like it was a good value.

Not a bad box but nothing too terribly exciting (those make up rounds should not be $5 each……I believe you can get a dozen for that same price online.)

I never did receive my Black Friday box and I really really wanted that one (of course.)

I do like the variety of products glossybox puts in their boxes, especially the CBD items I have been seeing lately.
