GlitzGlam "Gothic Glamour" October 2020 Review

This month's GlitzGlam Box theme is Gothic Glamour and came with an info card that lists the products on the front, with a menu of items available for purchase on the back.

DOCOLOR Goth Brush Set, Retail Value - $11.99

If you're into all the cool makeup tricks you can do on your eyes, I think you're going to love this eye brush set! I still haven't mastered the eye makeup glam (there are definitely levels to this makeup thing, and eyes are at the very top), but this set makes me excited to do some trial and error looks on myself. All of the brushes are really soft!

This set comes with a little instructional pamphlet describing the name of brushes and what they are used for, which I thought was incredibly useful for someone like me who again, really only uses one basic eyeshadow brush all the time.

(L-R: Lip Brush, Eyeliner Brush, Smudge Brush, Angled Eyebrow Brush, Blending Brush)

I'm really loving the black and gold color theme and the goth vibe. I think every season should be spooky season honestly.

(L-R: Shader Brush, Eyeshadow Brush, Angled Eyeshadow Brush, Eyeshadow Brush, Pencil Brush)

UCANBE Luxury Queen Lipstick, Listed Value - $10.00

I pulled this lipstick out of the box and instantly felt like royalty. This is before even seeing the color.  The packaging is so regal! Now on to the lipstick itself. This luxury queen lipstick is a matte, but when applied has that smooth velvety feel. YES! Because if you've read other reviews of mine, I am not a fan of mattes that make your lips feel like the Sahara desert.

The color of this item is listed as 05 Smoked Salmon. I personally don't think of smoked salmon when looking at this, but more of a mauve cinnamon (which I am loving!) How would you describe this color?

GLITZGLAMBOX Never Basic Lashes, Retail Value $7.99

This stunning lash set is in the style Wish Upon and is a natural wispy, faux mink look! I currently have lash extensions on, so was unable to do a picture wearing these, but they are so glam I can't wait to try them! The lash band is nice and sturdy. Which for me, makes for easy glue application. GLITZGLAMBOX states their brand of lashes can be used up to 20x with proper care. I really hope so, because I'd like to keep these around!

GLITZGLAMBOX Sugar Skull Glitter, Listed Value $6.99

Listed as a "GLITZGLAMFAM Fave", this reusable sugar skull pod holds Glitzglam's signature loose cosmetic glitter. As stated before, I think every season should be spooky season, so I am in love with this cute little skull pod.

The glitter is pretty too! It's an iridescent color and applies very light.  This swatch was applied twice with an eyeshadow brush. The nice thing is it's buildable, so the glitter can be as heavy or light as you'd like.

The Verdict: While I was hoping for more spooky goth vibes with the box being named Gothic Glamour, I thought this was a decent box this month. My fave item would be the Luxury Queen Lipstick. I am really in love with the color. Although I think when I try the lashes on, it will be a close runner up!  This subscription costs $17.99 ($15 + $2.99 shipping), and I estimate that I received $36.97 in value this month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Sadly, no, because they are preparing next month's box. BUT, you can shop on their website and get similar items!

Value Breakdown: At $17.99 ($15 + $2.99 shipping) for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Brush Set- $5.83
  • Lipstick - $4.87
  • Lashes - $3.89
  • Glitter - $3.40

Unfortunately, I can’t get past the horrible errors on the packaging. The back of the brush box is some of the worst Chinese-to English botch job I’ve ever seen. Why didn’t the curator of this box refuse to allow it to remain part of the box? It makes it look as though it was all just drop-shipped from the Chinese manufacturer rather than carefully selected by whoever runs this box.

And look on the back of the lashes box: I’m pretty sure “prefect” is meant to be “perfect”. Though it’s one word unlike the brushes box, the lash package actually has the GlitzGlamBox name on it, so there is no excuse for that error to make it into the actual box. I’m not saying these mistakes mean that the products aren’t any good; they might be fine and you like them and that matters. But this poor labeling makes me concerned about the quality and definitely cheapens the appearance. After reading this review, I went and looked at your August review for this box, and everything looked legit (and much higher end than this one). I don’t know, maybe it’s a Covid thing, but it’s disappointing IMO. I hope you know, this is not a critique of your review in any way, it’s a critique of the team behind the box.
