Look Fantastic July 2020 Review

It looks like for the time being there will not be an info booklet inside the box but instead, it will arrive via email.

Le Couvent des Minimes Botanical Soap, 50 g - Estimated Value $5.33 (Buy 150 g for $16.00)

I like fancy soaps. They are awesome for my guest bathroom and remind me of my Nana. Win-win! This scent is particularly lovely. It is a blend of jasmine and powder florals, combined with a watery fresh smell. It smells expensive. I did notice a slight discoloration on my bar of soap, but that can be from any number of factors that might happen while in manufacturing or transit (like heat). It doesn't change the functionality of this one for me at all.

So Eco Konjac Face Sponge - Retail Value $9.40 (currently on sale for $7.50)

While this isn't an exciting addition, it is certainly super useful! I love a good konjac sponge scrub on my face. It somehow exfoliates in the most gentle way and gives me a deep down clean. This one is reusable and comes with a built in string for hanging to dry between uses.

Nuxe Multi-Correction Gel Cream Crème Prodigieuse Boost, 15 mL - Estimated Value $13.28 (Buy a full-size 40 mL for $35.40)

I didn't like this product for a few reasons. The scent is SO strong, and it smells more like a hair gel than a skincare formula. I know, I generally love fragrances. For me to complain about the strength of one is rare. Secondly, the second ingredient is denatured alcohol, which I find really drying. Not all alcohols are negatives, but denatured alcohol is for me, and this gel-cream has a lot of it. Those negatives aside, it does have some winning ingredients like hyaluronic acid and vitamin E, but I think you can absolutely find a better version of this in another brand. I find it confusing that a product meant to add moisture is actually probably really drying to a lot of people out there.

Balance Me Vitamin C Repair Serum, 7 mL - Estimated Value $9.42 (Buy a full-size 30 mL for $40.37)

This serum is full of vitamin C which helps to brighten the skin by hydrating it and reducing hyper-pigmentation. Again, this scent of this stuff is SO strong. I have no idea what is going on with my nose. In looking at the ingredients, it is easy to see why: there are like 10 perfuming ingredients inside! Most are essential oils, so keep that in mind if you have had negative reactions to citrus and floral oils in your skin products before. As far as formula goes, I like this. It feels nice on the skin and absorbs without being sticky. It also provides a nice boost of moisture because it has squalane and hyaluronic acid inside.

Sleek MakeUP Matte Me Liquid Lip in 'French Fancy', 6 mL - Full Size! Retail Value $6.29

Sleek MakeUP and I have not had the best run. Every time I get an eyeshadow from them I feel let down by the pigment levels and performance. My expectations here were low, even though I immediately liked the pink shade inside the tube. Matte formulas are tricky for me because I have pretty dry lips that I pick at. I know, gross, terrible, bad! I actually thought this formula was pretty nice! It felt thin but had full coverage, stayed a velvet sort of finish, and the color looked great on. It also lasted for like 4 hours without budging. I am pretty happy with this stuff!

It's just a good pink.

Erno Laszlo Multi-Task Eye Serum Mask, 1 pair - Estimated Value $6.33 (Buy 6 pairs for $38.00)

Between work, school, and all of the personal projects I keep taking on (I like to stay busy), my under-eye skin is looking a little dull. It is directly related to my low levels of sleep, but that isn't going to change until August so I need to work with what I have! And what I have now are some of my fave eye gels. These have all the good stuff: hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, allantoin, and more. Toss them in the fridge! Please! Your eyes deserve that chilly nourishing magic. Mine always look brighter and feel firmer after these gels.

Nuxe Insta-Masque, 15 mL - Estimated Value $7.02 (Buy a full-size 50 mL for $23.40)

I liked this mask. It has a softer rose and violet scent and it is a heavy-duty gel with small and gentle exfoliating particles inside. It does kind of feel like smearing petroleum jelly on your face, but when you have super dry skin like I do, this sensation is weirdly nice. This is a quick 2-minute mask, meaning you can totally sneak this in while getting ready in the morning. It also never really dries in that timeframe, so you can massage it gently to take full advantage of those exfoliating grains. After rinsing this off my skin felt great! Soft to the touch and exfoliated.

The Verdict: This month's Look Fantastic Beauty Box was a little bit of a mixed bag. The winners were the eye gels, lipstick (what?), soap, masque, and konjac sponge. I was less crazy about the Nuxe gel-cream and the Balance Me serum. I do think there was enough in here to feel like a decent box and the variety was good too. All in all, not the most exciting box to cross my desk this month, but not a dud either! And for $19, the contents are worth an estimated $57.07, which isn't mind-blowing but is still value.

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! (This page will let you know which box is currently available.)

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I am so glad I cancelled this subscription box ugh! I have Look Incredible Deluxe Beauty box now which is all full size high end products from the U.K. and I love it! Ipsy is only $12 and compared to this box at $19 makes this box look pretty cheap and crappy! I love my Ipsy glam bag and plus and Boxycharm base and premium and my Allure has been killin it lately at $15 a month and had a way higher value/fab products than Look Fantastic as well. I’m also going to cancel Birchbox and Glossy Box.

Hey Angela, Is the Look Incredible mostly makeup or does it include skincare? I love to discover new boxes but I couldn’t really tell from their website. Thanks!

Usually lookfantastic discount codes are not applicable to their beauty box subscription. You can wait till cyber week / black friday / thanksgiving period and sometimes the coupons are works for ordering beauty box or there are special offers available.

Just in case this is a response to my earlier post and for the sake of clarity in general, I was referring below to GlossyCredit earned with my GlossyBox subscription (their version of points, charms, etc.), not discount codes. LookFantastic & GlossyBox are owned by the same company, and GlossyCredit can be used for purchases anywhere on Look Fantastic, including an initial LF Beauty Box. (Of course the following boxes are at the regular rate you signed up for.) This worked out well for me both times, but I’m an active GlossyBox member who had some GlossyCredit saved up. YMMV 🙂

I didn’t get the sponge in my box.

Aarjullor

I got an eyeshadow brush instead of the sponge.

Me too. I was actually wanting this variation even though a lot of people wanted V1, BUT I wanted the sponge instead of the brush. Oh well! I was a first time subber in June and was super happy with that box, but didn’t cancel in time for July. I did cancel for August though. Just not blown away overall.

echo

Yes, me too. Mine was an eye shader also from So Eco.

Oz

Did anyone else have an empty tube of the Balance Me serum? Not a drop was in my tube… Waiting to hear back from customer service.
I really wish that I had gotten box 1, but such is life. I don’t think this is one of their better months.

I didn’t get the sponge and the Nuxe gel cream wasn’t sealed and it’s been used. Couldn’t get anything out also missing the Nuxe insta-masque

Is free shipping limited to some areas, that you are aware of? When I enter my US address, it says shipping is $8. I’m not sure if that is new, or just my address, or maybe I’m not entering something correctly?

Yes! I’m Canadian and shipping was always free to here too but when I recently went to sign up I was charged $12 for shipping and when I emailed them to see why since they advertise free international shipping I was told that there is a shipping charge on each subscription but only once per subscription. So if you do a three month sub. you will be charged shipping every time it renews! I’ve had nothing but trouble with this subscription so I’m moving on. The product quality has gone way down and their customer service is awful. I’m done with them.

Thank you! I thought I was going crazy. I suppose $8/year wouldn’t be so bad for an international delivery, but I’m leery about making a commitment like that, especially if you say cs is awful. I certainly am not going to pay $8/mo!

I appreciate the reply, Susan. Be well!

Erin

I dunno. I LOVE Nuxe products and they aren’t easy to get in the US. I am contemplating trying this now.

This use to be one of my favorite beauty boxes but I finally unsubscribed a few months ago because every month they seem to cut another thing that made them special out. Even the boxes are dull now and no more booklets or magazines and price goes up and brands gone down a bit to. So long look fantastic!

Oops, I forgot a comment! Since the box no longer sends the magazine, could we get someone on the site to edit it out of the subscription description?

I’ve subbed in the past but stopped due box overload. Re-subbed a few months ago. Both times I used my GlossyBox credit to pay a smaller price for the first shipment. When I came back a few months ago I was surprised the box was so light and discovered the magazine isn’t included anymore. My guess is the shipping cost is too much at this time. Maybe pandemic-related?

I am so on the fence with this box. If it was just a teensy, weensy bit less expensive I’d bite. I know that 19 bucks isn’t a lot, but somehow, it doesn’t seem quite worth the 19 bucks. If it was 12 or 15 bucks I’m sure I’d be there with bells on.

If you sign up for a year sub, it’s $16 a month. They take it out monthly, not in one lump sum like other yearly subs.

echo

I can confirm this and GlossyBox does the annual-billed-monthly deal as well.

Ami

Great review! I don’t like scents or alcohol in my skincare products either! Thanks for pointing that out.
