Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each month you get full-size or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag.

EDITED 6/11 to add missing brush!

This is one of Liz’s top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box - the value and sample sizes are amazing. (Check out our list of the best beauty boxes for 2020 and our reviews of Cheap Subscription Boxes for more recommendations!)

(FYI – Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

My Ipsy Glam Bag May 2020 Review

Included is a card outlining some general makeup tips.

Each month, Ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their items. This month reminds me of sherbert, with the pink to orange fade.

tarte SEA H2O Lip Gloss in 'Sail Away', 1 ml - Estimated Value $4.75 (Buy a full-size 4 ml for $19.00)

I am a lover of lip gloss anyways, but give me a super glossy one in a sweet natural pink? Done. I loved this gloss. 'Sail Away' has a slight cool berry look to it, but it warms up on my lips. The gloss is super shiny but still feels light and not at all sticky. The doe-foot applicator has two flat sides that grab up a perfect amount of product to coat my lips without multiple dips.

Pink, juicy, glossy. Win!

Jeju:en Aloe Gel Sleeping Mask, 10 ml

So, just this past weekend I managed to burn my neck pretty badly while painting outside. I had sunscreen on my face, but forgot the back of my neck! Ouch. While this is meant to be used as a sleeping mask, I decided to toss it into the fridge and use it on my burn since I was out of aloe. It felt so good and cut back on at least some of the redness. I decided to also try it on my face cold the next day after some gardening and wow, how refreshing! While this gel formula isn't going to be heavy enough to use on my face at night (I have dry skin) I am obsessed with it as an aftersun treatment. I did notice it has some alcohol, but I didn't feel anything negative on my skin.

Nails INC Nail Polish in 'Primrose Walk', 10 ml

I like the Nails INC formulas and I am always happy to see one in a box, especially in such a pretty pink! I sadly couldn't find any mention of this shade on their site to link to. This formula has great coverage (I could get away with one coat, but I chose to do two), a high-shine finish, and dried in a reasonable time.

This is 100% a shade I would wear.

Space Case Eyeshadow in 'Intense Stargasm', 1.5 g - Retail Value $9.00

I liked this swatched so much more than I thought I would. It looks like it should just be a silver shimmer in the pot, but on my skin it takes a slightly lavender hue that I think is very pretty. The texture is smooth and buttery, and basically a dream to blend.

Twinkle, twinkle.

BRUSH UPDATE:

Thanks to everyone who noticed my missing brush! Ipsy was kind enough to ship a new one, and here it is:

SLMISSGLAM SS57 Brush

Who wouldn't love a glittery pink brush? This has a fluffy head that is perfect for precision highlighters or eyeshadow blending. The neck has two little crystals too!

Verdict: My Ipsy Glam Bag had 5 items this month, and they were all pretty excellent! I really enjoyed all of them, especially the gloss and eyeshadow. For $12, this felt totally worth it, and I like that all of the sizes were quite generous aside from the aloe mask.

Again, thanks to you all for the brush detective work. 🙂

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Possibly! As of publication, there was no Ipsy waitlist. Check here to see what month you’ll get first.

Good to Know: Ipsy sends out variations. You may get a completely different bag than me.

Value Breakdown: At $12 for this box, each item has an average cost of $2.40.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I agree with you.I received the same Ipsy bag but I had 5 items in mine. My choice item was the ciate liquid eyeliner in black. That was the difference in our bags.

I skipped my Ipsy bags in May. Wasn’t a fan of the picks. The space case eyeshadow is something I received about 6 months ago maybe?? It definitely surprised me. It felt a lot like colour pop shock shadows.

As others have said, sometimes items hide in the mailer and usually it tends to be a brush. If that isn’t the case, contact Ipsy, they are usually great and will either send you the missing item or refund you about 1/5 of your bag price. It seems to depend on which agent you get. When something happens with mine, most just want to refund the price, claiming it is no longer in stock. I did have one who only ever wanted to send a replacement. Either way is fine by me, of course.

On a side note, I also received the gloss in Sail Away. I liked the color and I like Tarte but this one was just a little TOO glossy for me. Does anyone here have hints on toning the gloss down a touch? Thanks!

Joy-Not the Other One

First thing-just like everyone else is saying my brush was in my bubble mailer and I almost missed it so I would give it another look, especially since it was in your reveal.

2nd Thing-Quick question-Did anyone else get an email trying to get them to sign up for an annual sub with IPSY and one of the gifts was “Four BOGO Add-Ons between June to September this year”? At the risk of sounding super dumb, I have to admit I’m not quite sure what they mean by that. Do you think it means if I buy 4 add-ons I get 4 free ones from June to September?

I’ve sent am email to customer service because I couldn’t find a more thorough explanation anywhere else but the deal ends on the 30th and I don’t think I will hear back before then. I mean if that is what it means surely it only applies to the $3 add-on’s right? I can’t imagine I could buy 4 $16 add-ons and get 4 free. Who knows?! LOL 🙂 Thanks!

Thank you Tina! Total oversight on my part. I am reaching out to Ipsy and will update! <3

Kristin

Magen since you pay for this sub, can you list what your pick was for the month?

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Hey Kristin! I usually refrain from picking (though it is often hard!). WOuld it be more helpful in future reviews for me to make a selection? Totally open to feedback on this 🙂

Kristin

Just would be curious if you picked an item what you chose, you get to try so many products so it would be fun to see your selection was. You have willpower to be surprised.

Flora

It said in your reveal post that you were getting the Swissglam brush. Like others commented, is it in your bubble mailer? If the mailer wasn’t sealed well, it could also have fallen out.

Megan K.

Eep, I honestly have no clue. I don’t think it was inside the bag. I didn’t even remember it was in my reveal. I am going to do some detective work and then probably reach out to Ipsy. I will update! <3

log into your ipsy account on the site…it will list the 5 items you should have received

Chelsea

Agree with the others, my eyeshadow brush was in the very bottom of the bubble mailer. I almost missed it except I had cashed in points for another brush and double checked for it. Both brushes were in the bottom. If they shorted you an item and there wasn’t a brush you missed (check your bag reveal to find out) then please contact CS and let us know what they say! I’ve been a subscriber for nearly 3 years and have never been shorted an item but definitely want to know how they handle it if they do short you!

I know that ipsy has a really detailed survey on beauty preferences. How good are they at sticking with your beauty preferences? For example, I adore lippies of every kind except for glosses (although now that I know Megan loves them, I should just send them all to her 😉). Would they truly avoid sending glosses, or is the survey on preferences just for show?

shower me in the glosses!

I had four items in my actual glam bag, and then an eyeshadow brush inside the padded mailer. I missed it initially and almost tossed it into the trash. I wonder if you received the brush as well and made a similar mistake?

Megan K.

I don’t think it was in the envelope at all. We are pretty diligent, though human. I am going to reach out to Ipsy and see whats up! I will update you all <3

MzBev

That’s probably what happened. Hopefully she still has the envelope. I always shake out the mailing envelope so I don’t miss anything.

Good idea, and one I learned this month! Always check the bag the bag is in! LOL!

Shannon

If you still have your packaging check inside it. you might of had a brush that didnt fit in makeup bag!

I canceled Ipsy several months ago after being a long time subscriber. I miss it, then I see the reviews and spoilers and I remember why I canceled.

Nikkim

Angela

I’ve never received four items always five that might be a mistake on their part.
